  1. Here's one you haven't suggested. Atlanta trades: C Theo Ratliff (8.7 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 0.9 apg in 31.1 minutes) Atlanta receives: PF Christian Laettner (8.3 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 3.1 apg in 29.2 minutes) PF Kwame Brown (7.4 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 0.7 apg in 22.2 minutes) Change in team outlook: +7.0 ppg, +4.4 rpg, and +2.9 apg. Washington trades: PF Christian Laettner (8.3 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 3.1 apg in 29.2 minutes) PF Kwame Brown (7.4 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 0.7 apg in 22.2 minutes) Washington receives: C Theo Ratliff (8.7 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 0.9 apg in 81 games) Change in team outlook: -7.0 ppg, -4.4 rpg, and -2.9 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED Due to Atlanta and Washington being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Atlanta and Washington had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. ------------------------------------------------------------ You have been assigned Trade ID number 1239903 Why we do this deal. We now line up JT Glover SAR Kwame Nazr Then backup with DD/Hansen/Diaw/Hendu/Laetner. JT/CC warm the pine. Washington needs the Center presence and Brown seems like a bust to them. But hardly, he was stellar in the first 20 games till the vets started talking in his ear and that player killer Collins benched him for young player attitude (rembering Doug Collins benched a young horace grant for attitude too). Fact is, the kid can run the floor, block shots and rebound like an NBA starter right now. He only needs a little grooming to be twice the player Theo is right now. Laettner can be a pain as Hawks fans have seen before but he can shoot from both the outside and inside and has only a year left on the deal. In 2 years, we could have a solid base of JT, SAR, Brown, Nazr, DD, Diaw, Hansen to work from with Light years of cap room. Would probably have to throw a 2nd rounder in there to make it work for Washington. But they want and need the real center now. They covet the shotblocker and with only 1 additional year on his contract, Theo is High reward/low risk to them.
  2. There are only 2 trades on this page that truly appeal to me. Obviously the Theo for Lo/Battier (since it was mine) But also the Theo, Hendu for Hill/Gooden/Declerq/1st Honestly I don't think you'll get the pick out of it. I think in 2 years Gooden will be worth more than theo and hendu combined. I also think Hendu is redundant for Nazr so although he is at times a very useful player, he's redundant...can't play the 2 of them at once. So I lineup Terry, Glover, SAR, Gooden, Nazr. DD,Hansen,Diaw, DeClerq, Kemp (signed), JV, Crawford. Hill goes on the IR for at least the first half of the season and we apply for a league medical exemption.
  3. I agree, I'd really prefer the Ratliff for Lo/Battier deal.
  4. Maybe I'm just different, but I saw the hawks having 2 glaring problems last year. 1st, ball handling - turnovers. 2nd getting pushed around down low. The 1st problem seems to be solved. Adding Jacque Vaughn, Boris Diaw, Travis Hansen and the removal of Glenn Robinson should be enough to help in the turn over department. We won't be solid caretakers of the rock but much improved over last year. But in the case of the 2nd problem. Reef constantly got hammered down low. We were outrebounded on the defensive end with regularity leading to easy putback buckets, and nobody on this team seemed willing to put an opposing penetrator on his hind parts so instead of all the talk to bring back both DJ and Glover, I suggest this. Bring back Glover and give him the #2 guard job and make it his to lose. That leaves 1 roster spot open and I have 2 different suggestions to fill it. 1. Sign Shawn Kemp. He is still unsigned unless I missed something. A 34 year old 13 year vet that put up 6.8 points and got 5.7 rebounds last year in only 20 minutes. He's 6'10 and plays both Center/PF I say move Reef back to small forward and play Kemp at the big spot. This puts 2 shotblockers on the blocks and gives Reef a size advantage when he goes to the post. This puts a dead stop to not taking care of the defensive glass. option 2 ala Diesel who I can't figure his love of Person. Instead, since Memphis has too many contracts, let's take advantage with Ratliff for Lorenzen Wright/Shane Battier. Wright is both a better scorer, rebounder than Ratliff just not quite the shotblocker. Battier is a true swing player with an outside jumper. Doing this deal instead of signing Kemp (or any other big man for that matter) saves cap money allowing us to renegotiate any necessary contract during the year and gives us 2 tradeable commodities for one. Atlanta trades: C Theo Ratliff (8.7 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 0.9 apg in 31.1 minutes) Atlanta receives: C Lorenzen Wright (11.4 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 1.1 apg in 28.3 minutes) SF Shane Battier (9.7 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 1.4 apg in 30.6 minutes) Change in team outlook: +12.4 ppg, +4.4 rpg, and +1.6 apg. Memphis trades: C Lorenzen Wright (11.4 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 1.1 apg in 28.3 minutes) SF Shane Battier (9.7 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 1.4 apg in 30.6 minutes) Memphis receives: C Theo Ratliff (8.7 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 0.9 apg in 81 games) Change in team outlook: -12.4 ppg, -4.4 rpg, and -1.6 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED Due to Atlanta and Memphis being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. 5. Now that we know Jt's Salary (given he signs), could somebody in the know give a list of the players under contract and what's available to sign the remaining 2 (Dion and another). For Ex. Ratliff = $$$??? next next next ------------- total
  6. I personally don't under stand it. As of right now, the Hawks are: DD Hansen Diaw/CC SAR/Hendu Theo/Mohammed And this equates to roughly $34 million in Salary (after removing Brandon's money). JT will get around $7 mil a year. That's $41 mil and 3 players left to sign. Sign Dion and DJ for about 2 mil and 1 mil respectively for 2 years each (they will understand the money will be there in 2 years when Hendu and CC are off the books). At this point, both will take it to be employed. Then offer a 2 year 4.5 mil deal for Kemp. He's still available and a Helluva backup on any team. My math puts us at 49 million for 2 years and ready buy the world in 2. JT/DD (Diaw) Dion/Hansen (DJ) DJ/Diaw/CC SAR/Hendu (Kemp) Theo/Mohammed (Kemp) I would call Kemp the vet presence I'd want. Been to the finals with Seattle. Big ugly mean rebounding body. A great replacement if any of our 4 fragile big men get injured. I like this young athletic team with lot's of interchangeble parts. I think a trade would just kill what was developing team chemistry from last year.
  7. of every remaining unsigned free agent. Anybody got one...post it here.
  8. Though not an avid poster, I check in from time to time and was looking at the list of free agents left in the NBA to get at a bargin price. Going on the theory that our eventual coach will be "George Karl" and working with Diesel's insistance that we trade Theo Ratliff...I've come up with some interesting (if not challenging) thoughts. Sign and trade with Indiana Reggie Miller & (either Harrington/Croshere) 4 Theo Ratliff/Crawford. Now, a few interesting Free Agents on the market that could be had for Cheap. Shawn Kemp. Just 2 seasons ago averaged 17.8 points and 8.8 rebounds for Cleveland in 30.4 minutes a game. No longer a first option but still only 34. Could be had for less than 2 mil a year. Jason Collier - 3.5 pts, 2.5 reb in 11 minutes. A true center Height wise at 7' 260lbs who can shoot from the outside....nice bench player. Grant Long - No introduction needed I'd guess for Hawks fans. Fan favorite in Atlanta. Loren Woods - Great potential, bad situation in Minnesota. All could be had for 2 mil or less. So we line up a lineup like this. JT/Diaw/Dickau Reggie Miller/Hansen Shareef/Chroshere Kemp/Hendu/Long Nazr/Woods (or Collier) If Miller/Chroshere just replace Theo/CC salaries, that would give us enough I'd gather to resign JT, and afford the 3 added players mentioned. Thoughts???
  9. at the end of the article it said, "That's not much. It'll be even less if Dallas can pry Ratliff away. The Hawks are clearly looking ahead -- two years from now, they might actually have some cap room. But you've still got to play the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons." So Dallas wants Ratliff....my question is, "How Bad???" Seeing as Dallas has Van Exel, would they give up Nash, Bradley and a future conditional pick (based on a finals appearance)? Atlanta trades: C Theo Ratliff (8.7 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 0.9 apg in 31.1 minutes) Atlanta receives: PG Steve Nash (17.7 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 7.3 apg in 33.1 minutes) C Shawn Bradley (6.7 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 0.7 apg in 21.4 minutes) Change in team outlook: +15.7 ppg, +1.3 rpg, and +7.1 apg. Dallas trades: PG Steve Nash (17.7 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 7.3 apg in 33.1 minutes) C Shawn Bradley (6.7 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 0.7 apg in 21.4 minutes) Dallas receives: C Theo Ratliff (8.7 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 0.9 apg in 81 games) Change in team outlook: -15.7 ppg, -1.3 rpg, and -7.1 apg. Odom?

Yes I think Odom could be had for Nazr and a 2nd rounder or 2. Odom has had 2 strikes with the league. The clips love what he brings to the floor, don't get me wrong. But Odom doesn't want to be there and they don't want to lose him for nothing. Nazr will make about 4 mil this year. Jt will start making about 7. Sign and trade for Odom at about 5 mil a year first year and it's done. Give him a 2 year deal with a player option for a 3rd at bigger money and he (Odom) would do it. And Jt could sell him on the idea.

    Odom?

You wouldn't have to deal your best. The clips need a center. You could have him for Nazr and a 2nd round pick. Or you could give the protected 1st and the rights to Anderson....The clips don't want him, his impending salary or the headache of the 3rd strike looming....problem is fitting him in salary wise. And yes we want him. Resign a healthy Dj, Add Odom and you've got something good. JT,DJ,Odom,SAR,Theo (This is a Long, Quick lineup). DD,Hansen,Diaw,Hendu,Willis. CC,Steve Smith. Notice what adding Odom does??? Puts 2 ball handlers on the floor at all times. No more Traps!!! We get Taller on Both units. More rebounds. Much better perimeter defense from both units. And depending on what the Jazz's offer is, this entire unit could be had for about 52 mil or 2 mil under the luxury tax.
  12. Just a Thought. Henderson/Nazr/pick Odom(snt)/Quentin Richardson Why do the clips do it? Odom is a lost cause at this point and they get a pick (say the Brandon deal protected pick). Cap relief when Hendu's contract expires after this year. Mohammed to replace Kandi as a center temporarily. Why we do it! Keep Theo but improve the defense in doing so. Richardson can back up the 2. No cap issues created as we trade away two contracts to do it. We could sign Alvin Jones Jr. for 1,000,000 for one year to back up Theo. Team change. JT/Dickau Hansen/Richardson Odom/Diaw Shareef/Crawford Theo/A.Jones Round out the bench with 2 summer leaguers at the minimum or Free Agents as we could get them (DeMarr, Anderson/Kevin Willis/Smith/Jackson etc) This is a much improved defensive starting unit. Clean it up from there guys....it's just a start.
  13. can't believe I cursed twice in one post. Doahhh.
  14. The trade works in the trade checker, but truth be told I don't understand it. We obviously get little back in Brandon if he truly is done or hobbled. The 76ers are getting scoring punch for sure and their defense won't get worse when Horn leaves. So what's in it for New York/Atlanta. There's got to be a draft pick or something in there for us you'd think. If not, what would we line up. Brandon, Terry, Diaw, SAR, Ratliff Dickau, Hansen, Demarr, Hendu, Mohammed. That's a [censored] of a handles team (far cry from last year) but [censored] small considering Diaw is slight of build. Atlanta trades: SF Glenn Robinson (20.8 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 3.0 apg in 37.5 minutes) Change in team outlook: -20.8 ppg, -6.6 rpg, and -3.0 apg. Change in team outlook: 0.0 ppg, 0.0 rpg, and 0.0 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED Due to Atlanta being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. 15. Just a crazy thought guys. I'm not sure when/how the clips signed kandi to a one year deal or when he would be available to trade. But could we send them G-Rob/Nazr for M.O.Kandi and filler of some sort. Gives us the ability to move SAR back to the 3. Diaw, Terry, SAR, Ratliff (Hendu), Olowokandi. Thats a helluva defensive starting 5 that can score. Gives you this bench. Dickau, Hansen, Johnson, Newble, Hendu, Crawford, and Player to be named Just a thought and not sure if it'd work but it gets us bigger for sure.
  16. hmmm...this is interesting. Not because I like Spreewell but because he has better handles, and defense than GROB and can play the 2, moving IRA to the 3 and or a draft pick like Jarvis Hayes to the 3. 21 +grob+Glover=Spreewell, Jarvis Hayes (at #9). A good jumpshooter, 3 point shooter with better than average defense and although not stellar ballhandling or passing, better than Robinson. Resign JT and you have. JT/Dickau Spreewell/Newble Hayes/Crawford Shareeff/Hendu Ratliff/Mohammed Bench - Maybe Demarr and whoever. JT, Spree, Hayes, SAR can all shoot from the outside well Spree, SAR and Theo can all post up. I think You're on to something here and New York needs to drop Spree badly.
  17. Not sure if he'll fall this far so we may have to package to move up a slot or 2 but..... sg/sf from Georgia, Jarvis Hayes. Our Future lineup would/could include. Terry/Hayes in the backcourt. Hayes can handle the ball and is big at 6'7". Can shoot from the outside and take the ball to rim He's an excellent passer. Is a little slow afoot when defending and this may push him out of the top 15. Thoughts???
  18. one minor problem, we'd have 4 players more than we'd contracts...who goes away??? and how...just can't release most of them due to league rules involving trades.
  19. Sign Roberts in a Boston minute. The 7 good why's: 1. Anything to sell tickets at this point. 2. Ability to move Nazr and Ham for a decent pg/sg. 3. Southern boy comes home does good. 4. Player to push Theo. 5. Rebounding, Rebounding, Rebounding....even if out of shape or overweight, he could always rebound well. 6. Adding this big body could help us move Theo's contract and replace it with only 1 or 2 mil a year, helping us resign Jt and potentially S.Smith next year. 7. Moving Theo to somewhere like Toronto/orlando might help us move one more contract like email/hendu or crawford and return us a star quality sg/sf.
  20. Walter, the reason you see more turnovers from Dion is that he does a much larger share of the Ballhandling than Ira does. All Ira does on offense is set picks, catch and shoot. Dion Creates, helps alot on the trap and drives to the basket. He's a creator and the turnovers go up in that case. Especially when JT isn't on the floor and Email is. But put them on the floor together and trapping becomes more difficult. Ratio isn't as important as opportunities. Call an opportunity, a drive/dish/or create and I'd say Dion does that 5 times more a game (even in reduced minutes) than Ira. Starting Dion isn't to limit his turnovers, but to limit JT's. It creates a "Perimeter" ballhandler/passer. Just someone to take the burden off JT but not as useless as Email or small as DD.
  21. I'm starting to answer a couple of what if's. But first, let's talk about where I'm coming from. In none of the western conference games were we blown out. In none of that games did we fold tent in the fourth quarter and go down big. No injuries yet. We're playing with McCaskill and Harvey instead of CC and Nazr. So what happens when Big Dawg, SAR and JT all start to get proper spacing. What happens when Nazr is back and playing the backup 5 and Hendu becomes an exclusive 4 again. What happens when CC returns to backup the 3 pushing Dion and IRA down to the G and out of the SF rotation pushing Email off the floor. What happens when Dickau catches up enough to play 10 minutes at the point to give JT a break. What happens when Kruger figures out that Dion should start. and that is the real point of this post. We are turning the ball over 21 times a game because 2 starting NBA guards are on the floor for 25 minutes a game with JT and IRA who is a defensive player and not offensive. Move Glove to the starting lineup and you lose a little defense but probably stop 6 turnovers a game. 6 turnovers are 3 baskets lost for you and 3 baskets made for your opponent (50% NBA shooting). or a 12 points swing. In the Sacramento game for example it makes the final Hawks 103, Kings 99. So I propose you stagger JT and Glove's time in and out so that when Glove goes out for IRA, JT stays on the floor and When JT goes out for DD, Glove comes back in....That puts 2 ball handlers on the floor at all times and gets Reef and GRob back down the floor getting set in the offense, where they belong. So add Nazr and CC to the group and subtract Email and McCaskill and We are 4 and 1 in the 5 games instead of 1 and 4. Any thoughts other than HTATLdude's negativity?
  22. Most here know I don't post on everything I read, but I had to post here. Great interview by Dawg...it shows that he's the grown up. Saying all the right things when Milwaukee tried to dump everything on him like it was his fault. That was class.
  23. That's a good question Diesel...but who's "Big Russkie". A little clarity here. For clarification the real meat of the deal is Battier/Lo for Ratliff..the other players are filler/salary dump. Battier/Lo for Ratliff....That's a fine Question. I guess the real question is, is Battier/Ira a big enough upgrade from Ira/Dion to dump Theo. You see, Lo is hurt alot too so you're not getting a "more reliable" player in Lo over Theo. More offensive/less defensive minded. With the added weight I actually think Lo can play the bigger centers better. God, I don't know. When Healthy, Theo is a game changer. He changed the whole offensive mindset of Utah last night. Conversely, when he left the game in Jersey it cut the legs right from under our comeback. I think if Theo stays in during the Jersey game, I think the outcome is a 50/50 chance of being different. But Battier and Lo can be productive team players for year's to come. Specifically, Battier is the kind of guy that makes PG smile. He keeps everyone else moving on the floor by being so pass conscious. Diesel, you know I hate excessive trading or just throwing deals out there when the chances of anything coming from it are nil but I'm scratching my head on this one...I'd say 75/25 I'd do it.
  24. no, he has a check. They didn't pick up next year's option. He's still a member of the team this year and it's next year that he's a free agent. Since they declined the option, the hawks can sign him for up to the 3 million hi would have been owed. but he is getting paid thru the end of this season.
