  1. With so much talk about a possible trade, it would make sense ??? to wait until the Dec 15 date to see what trades come up before changing the coach.

In reality, coach really hasn't had much of a chance without a point guard and a center. Given that BK has not picked up an free agents other than this Thomas, you gotta wonder that he's gonna do something. If not . . . . . ????

    Go figure.

  2. We should keep track of how often these happen throughout the year, because the Hawks get screwed on a regular basis. Makes me want to tell Stern and his chronies to kiss my ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .

  3. ReagGM posted an article that mentioned trading Josh C for Jameer Neson, an interesting idea in and of itself. However, I also saw the following post:

According to the Orlando Sentinel, DeShawn Stevenson hurt his knee in practice on Monday and he will need surgery at some point.

    (Updated 11/22/2005

If this is true, they will be in the market for a SG and may be willing to deal. Nelson would definately be an upgrade for the Hawks.

  4. Rumors on Hoopsworld.com posted the following about a big man:

BIGMAN SHOPPING: Several NBA teams are looking for big men, the Chicago Bulls have their scouting staff looking for size, while both the Nets and the Hawks have been actively talking about trades that would yield a big man – size is a premium in the NBA, and with some teams holding on to one or two extra bigs, don’t be surprised when Miami deals Mike Doleac, or the Milwaukee Bucks part with Dan Gadzuric.

  5. I foresee a trade

    The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Do the names Curtis Borchardt, Jahidi White, Erich Chenowith, Nigel Dixon, Mark Pope, Deji Akindele, Adam Parada, Ryan Humphrey, Toree Morris or James Lang excite you? Because those are some of the waiver wire casualties the Hawks can pick over now in their search for the two big men they need.

I’m more convinced than ever now that they’ll have to come up with a trade package or some other way of acquiring what they need. (Oh yeah, Obinna Ekezie was waived in Cleveland. Never mind.)

The Hawks will have to give up one of their forwards (they have plenty) and probably a veteran guard (there are only a couple so take your pick) to get their hands on what they need. But Billy Knight isn’t interested in mortgaging the future (some would say “again” after the Joe Johnson deal) to do so.

So we’ll have to ride this thing out and see what happens in the next few days.

This should bring on more talk!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. realgm.com gave the outlook for the Hawks. Most of what they reported was nothing new, with the following exception:

Third string duties go to Donta Smith. I like Donta’s athletic ability, but I don’t see him getting much playing time. We just have too much talent on the perimeter. It might be best to deal him for more help in the post (maybe Donta to the Hornets for JACKSON VROMAN OR MARIE LAMPE?

Not sure of his sources, but Vroman could run the floor and Lampe is a very interesting, young 7 footer.

    Peace.

  7. this just out from AJC Seko Smith. Exciting stuff.

The Hawks are clearly deeper than last year. Joe Johnson is a fine passer and should provide some interesting nights running the offense from the point guard position. And young forwards Josh Smith and Marvin Williams, as inexperienced as they might be, will supply the team with an abundance of skill, energy and excitement at a crucial position.

"I think it's fair to say that this is a little better than last year," Hawks coach Mike Woodson said after the White team edged the Black team 43-42 behind the play of backup point guard Tyronn Lue, Smith and Williams. "They got after it. They got after each other. And I like that. There is some serious competition going out there.

"Guys are hungry, they're trying to do the right things and they're not laying down for anybody. So yeah, camp's been pretty good."

The Hawks will have to wait until Tuesday night's exhibition opener against Orlando at Philips Arena to test their mettle again outside competition.

But Sunday's scrimmage work, the first since training camp began Tuesday, was an eye opener.

"The intensity is up," second-year guard Royal Ivey said. "We're doing a lot more running and just getting up the court. It's a faster place. We're getting right into it this year, not as much teaching and more going through the process. And we have to keep the pace up, from guards to big men, if we want to run this season like we plan."

The Black squad, with at least three projected starters — Johnson, Al Harrington and Josh Childress — and coached by Woodson, led big before the White team rallied.

It provided the kind of lesson Woodson and his staff have been barking about since Tuesday.

"My team jumped out on them and thought they had a cake walk," he said. "But it doesn't matter who plays or who comes off the bench, you've to play through the buzzer and sustain what you've already put out there.

"The White [team] just kept hammering away. They hung in there and pulled it out by a point. And to me that's about competitiveness. I realize that it's just practice, but that's something we didn't have last year."

    Go Hawks.
