Good points. But people need to stop talking "max" about Dalembert. He's not getting a Max offer from Philly or from us. He's not worth that much. Read the Philly boards. They think he's worth a little more than Gadz 36 mil. The Philly fans would pay him $50 for 6, but they would swallow hard at that number. I think if we offer $50 mil for 5, they will still match. I think we can have him for $60 for 5. But is he worth that much? It's interesting to compare the Philly and Chicago boards. The Philly folks have plenty of bad things to say about Dally, though they admit they need him and there just aren't other bigs around. But they don't love him. In Chitown, on the other hand, their posters are concerned that Curry might get away. Based on the knowledge of these fans, I think Curry should be our choice, provided some type of insurance is available.

short aside--- I'm watching "Entourage" on HBO last night and one of the storylines is the agent, Ari, trying to get work for the movie star, Vince. Well Vince was in line for this movie, and then he's out of the running, but then the director wants another one of Ari's clients, so then Ari put's the screws back in to get the job for Vince. Maybe this type of quid pro quo is happening here. SFX represents 18% of NBA players. Which centers do they represent? Maybe the Hawks went to an agent and said we want so-and-so to come play for us, and the agent (just like Ari on Entourage) says, OK, I'll deliver, but first you have to help my guy JJ get some fat money out of Phoenix. Quid pro quo. Could happen.

As others here are saying, Chicago can't give fat contracts to both Chandler and Curry. If we force them to match one contract, then we can pick up the other with a second large signed offer sheet. In that sense, we should make the first offer to the guy we want less. We don't have that kind of leverage with Dally, though I think Philly's cap space issues are much worse than either Phoenix' or Chicago's. It will be easier for Philly to match Dally if they use their one time lux tax waiver on CWeb. But they say they won't do that. Does anyone know if there's a time deadline to exercise that waiver option? Perhaps the Hawks wait for Philly to commit to keeping CWeb, then they apply the screws with the fat offer sheet to Dally. I dunno. I'm confident someone is going to take our money. I just hope that if it's Curry, his health problems really are behind him.

First - get familiar with the Hawks salaries so far. Hawks Salaries from Hoopshype Now let's add in Salim, Donta, Royal. Morris and MW and generously say that number is 6 mil, plus the 17 above brings us to $23 mil in committed numbers. Let's say the cap is going to be 50. That gives the Hawks $27 in cap room. But since they have to spend 75% of the cap, they have to spend $14.5 mil ((50 x .75)-23). It's not going to be easy spending that money on about 3-4 roster slots. So with the groundwork laid... Reason #1) if they do a sign and trade for a center with Al, then they won't use much of that 14.5 mil they need to spend. Maybe they use 2 mil of it and the rest is a substution for Al's salary. They will be hard pressed to spend it in this year's FAcy. They're better off keeping AL, and dealing him at the deadline for picks or other expiring contracts that they can spend next year. Think about it. Reason #2) I don't buy this 'log-jam at forward' line I hear everywhere. Sure, in the long-run, somebody's got to go. But Marvin will not be ready to play 40 minutes a night next November. There's 96 minutes of total forward time available each game. That means there's 33 minutes each available for Smoove, Marvin and Al. If Marvin starts at 20 mins, there's plenty for Al, and by the time Marvin's ready for a lot more minutes, well by then it will be trade deadline time, and AL can be moved for pic/cap space.
