Give me a hypothetical trade that would involve Trae that you would pull the trigger on? If you lose Trae, it’s a huge gamble finding another talent like him.

We have to be careful and look to the real problems of our imbalanced a$$ roster put together by tweedle dumb and D (Ress n Landry).

No one is giving us a better player than Trae back on a Trae trade. It would be a lesser player + filler + picks, and that would mean rebuilding.

The Law of Mid states that even without Trae, the Hawks will tonight.

We have not fallen 3 games below .500 since Jan 11th of last season, when we lost to Milwaukee.

Is Philly more powerful than the LAW OF MID?

    NO!

Take the friggin' Hawks STRAIGHT UP!

No JJ, no Trae and now a Northcyde jinx against the even if we were healthy much better than us Sixers? Gonna have to skip this one with too much shit going on. Hope you guys get to enjoy a miracle win.

Pelicans have 'repeatedly stressed' to Zion Williamson to improve diet, conditioning, but he 'doesn't listen'

    i_a8_bc_f8_zion-williamson.png?w=190
Zion Williamson’s poor work ethic has been a source of frustration for the Pelicans since they drafted him No. 1 in 2019. The Pelicans have tried to surround Williamson with veterans who have track records of maximizing their potential. The team signed JJ Redick in 2019. In 2022, they traded for CJ McCollum. None of it has made an impact. The Pelicans have repeatedly stressed to Williamson that his diet and conditioning need to improve. Williamson, multiple team sources have told The Times-Picayune, “doesn’t listen.”

But at the start of the season, it was clear Williamson was carrying too much weight. Most distressingly, he has not played himself into better shape, even though the regular season is more than one-quarter of the way over. If anything, Williamson’s conditioning has regressed. Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal, the two Hall of Fame big men who are now popular broadcasters with TNT, each gave Williamson fresh doses of tough love this week.

As much of a walking red flag as he's been, part of me thinks he's just trying to to play (eat) his way out of New Orleans. Would a change of scenery fix his attitude? It's the type of gamble we will have to consider if we are looking to add an impact player because no big time impact guy without question marks is going to be available to us unless we are looking to ship Trae.

People were more than ready to move on from both Huerter and Collins at the time they were traded.  Huerter was 6-7, but had major defensive issues and was not aggressive at times.  And we have talked all about Collins' issues last season.

The biggest issue is that we didn't get any assets for those players, whether it be guys who could be put in the rotation, or 2nd round picks that could be used to trade for a rotation piece.

I'm nowhere near pushing the panic button on the season, by trading either Trae or DJ.  I still say that these two are not the overall problem with the team.  Our backcourt, along with Bogi, is top 5 in the league.

    image.png.0e5c9a698f9728ff69b97709eeeb2374.png

Our frontcourt, while being the strength of our pitiful defense, is a completely different story.

    image.png.32aa6fc3220839d9c34b1d4ba0585abe.png

How much worse would this look without JJ?

    Upgrade the frontcourt.

    image.png

Nothing wrong with moving on from either of those guys. Giving them up for virtually nothing is the issue

Yeah I was just sayin we've had NUMEROUS 1st rdrs to help improve the team around Trae, while theyve only had 2 in the last 6 years and we're still no better than they are imo..

    Our F.O.'s has been crap

Not sure how great their front office has been. They got rid of Carlisle for Kidd which is a huge downgrade, they let Bronson and Porzingis leave. They were able to put together a decent defense one season which is when Dallas made it to the WCF, every other year they really haven't had much more success than the Hawks at all.

Before last season, I was adamant that we ship Clint and what was needed to get Rudy Gobert.  Not sure if anyone has noticed, but Minnesota now has the best record and statistically best defense in the league.

I mean Minny mortgage their entire future on Gobert. They were never gonna trade him after one season where KAT missed the majority of it.

    lol nobody wanted KYrie..

    And KIdd aint that great

Most Mavs fans wanted him gone last year..

But I feel you on Trae..

Our team building around him has been horrible..

And guess what? Dalla ain't that great either. Luka is the second coming of James Harden, their offense of everyone standing in by the three point line while Luka dribbles the air out of the ball is not gonna give them a championship, ever.

The big question to me with Trae and DM is whether they can be effective defensively.  There is no question to me if they can succeed offensively.   It is really just about whether they are collectively too small such that either would fit better with a bigger two way SG.

It hasn't worked out at all on that end. Offensively I feel if one is going off the other is watching. Neither are efficient on small doses, and off ball imo.

Makes sense for Indy.. Young player with alot of upside will get you more in return than a guy on a huge deal...

And Just so yall know Im not knocking Trae, as he's been playing well but Fox is really good too..Id like to ask Huerter which player he'd rather play with... lol

Btw, its a shame, Trae is playing some of his best ball overall, but unable to pick up more wins due to flawed roster construction.. smh

I'd comfortably pick Trae over Fox. They have a better team around him overall than the Hawks do, he's been a better scorer this year but nowhere near the playmaker. He's definitely bridged the gap this year quite a bit though.

I don't disagree that anyone who said it was all Nate's fault was badly overstating things but I remain convinced that moving on from Nate was the right move.  Offensively this team is dramatically smarter than it was last year when we deliberately took more bad shots and avoided good shots for some inane reason and the hero ball, "your turn, my turn" approach to Trae and DM was a failure in coaching.  JJ certainly won't be sending an apologies to Nate as he has finally been freed this season.

We have issues that go well beyond Nate but moving to Quin was the definitely the right way to go (even if Quin doesn't turn out to be the solution).

Not criticizing the change, but just pointing out Nate was scapegoated for things out of his control, specifically, the defense.

No I don't...once he switched to his own offensive system instead of just tweaking LPs, I was out 5 games into that first season. Not taking it back.

You can hate his system or whatever but we were 4 games over .500 with the 2nd and 7th rated offense in his two "full" seasons as coach. Quinn's style may be more fun but the results have not been better.

I disagree. I think there is another option, but it's quite severe.    Trade players like Hunter, Capela, OO, Bey, DJM for draft picks and expiring contracts.

Use that money to sign a big time FA.

Start over with Trae/JJ/Free Agent star...maybe DJM as well.

Easy to say, but which free agent are we talking about exactly? Siakam? Not many franchise type guys are ever going to be available anymore with the way supermax exists.

  13. It's too risky for the team to trade Trae Young as many have pointed out. He's the most marketable player on a sport where individual players put butts in the seats that the Hawks have had since Dominique. Hawks have been a perennial top 2-7 offense since Nate took over in 2020, so it's hard to argue Trae has not been pulling his weight. Is he worth a super-max or keystone to a championship team? Tough to say, but the one time the Hawks were playing some defense they made a run that saw them get closer to an NBA finals than they ever had.

Bottom line the team needs to find a way to fill the roster with impact defenders instead of relying on 1 or 2 guys that are defensive players, but judging by the absolutely incredible mismanagement of assets I don't have much faith they will be able to do that. We traded away two solid starting players (Huert and Collins) and Cam Reddish and all we got was a this lousy magnet. All those three guys could be traded today by their teams for better players assets than the Hawks got back, and I'm not saying they would net an amazing haul, but I'm pretty sure they would net at least 3 rotation players which is a lot more than the Hawks recieved back, and which would be extremely welcome at this point in time.

  14. Super disappointing season. People owe Nate a bit of an apology, not saying he was a perfect or even a great coach, but we are seeing he wasn't the main issue (as I pointed out at the time)

The one thing Landry did do was create value in DJ by signing him to a very reasonable deal.  Hopefully OOs deal looks favorable as well by the end of the season.

Agreed, it makes him moveable, and that is obviously what the Hawks will have to do at some point. DJ will have a lot more value for some other team at PG than he does for us at SG.

That's a ridiculous statement. Every fan base thinks the refs don't give them any calls.

Bad no call notwithstanding, the notion Trae doesn't get whistles is verifiably ridiculous. Pretty sure he's top five in most free throws taken since he entered the league.

It's time to accept he's basically a back up big. Solid role player, but he doesn't have enough offensive game to take a leap forward.

I'm more disappointed by his defense there were stretches the last few years where he was dominant on that end. Haven't seen it all year.

LOTS of empty seats at State Farm Arena tonight..

    Well deserved for Tony Ressler

    Fix this team man

Get us a damn legit BIG at the very least..

OO looks like $ down the drain.. Just your avg to below avg backup...

Team isnt even fun to watch anymore really

I just tune in because its the Hawks..

OO has been super disappointing really thought we would see the type of jump we got from JJ. He's been especially a complete non factor the last few weeks.

lol Wemby probably is the single best star pairing for Trae.  Scary duo honestly, but I have zero belief in any rumors of Trae to the Spurs.  Doesn't Pop not really like Trae?

Pop may have not much to do with the decision, and even if he doesn't like Trae at 3 wins this year I'm sure he can be persuaded to work with 27-11 on 57% TS. and sub 4 turnovers.

It is funny to me that historically speaking the Hawks franchise is usually a good defensive team. The Pettit era, the Nique teams, Lenny's teams, skip the rebuild years into Bud's years...this franchise is usually a good defensive team. Sometimes even one of the five best in the NBA.

Trae's defense has significantly improved starting Dec 22 till now. His defense is around average for his position. That's a gigantic step forward. It is the other perimeter players that are killing us. DJM has one good game and two bad games to make up for it. Bogi can't defend. AJ can't defend.

Saddiq Bey is the worst defensive forward I might have ever seen. Keep in mind his draft profile was as a gritty tweener 3 & D floor wing. That was his FLOOR. He is so bad on defense you can't write enough about it.

Every one says this team can't play any defense with Trae on it. I don't agree. Trae's not the problem any more. He'll never be good but he's average or maybe slightly less than average. But that's not bad. There's 20 starting PG that are in the same boat if not worse.

We've had stretches of great defensive play with Trae on the floor. Trae is not the problem. Our wing defense is none existant, Hunter is not the lock down type of defender people make him out to be Clint regreses every year defensively and now this season we are struggling with rebounding. I'm convinced OO should be playing PF, he's too small to play mostly at C, the great defense he plays (when he's not fouling) is mitigated by the fact taller players can consistently score on him and we don't rebound when he's on the floor. DJM is the biggest issue defensively, whoever he's guarding is going to light us up. Bogi is playing better defensively this year, but he isn't a defender and never will be, he doesn't have the length and quickness to be a difference maker on that end. Doesn't help that occasionally when we do find a good defensive player like Wright we don't make any effort to keep him.
