Ressler would fire the entire Hawks basketball operations before he did a rebuild like this.
Team needs defense on the perimeter. An elite offensive center would be wonderful but there's no way the Twolves are trading KAT after their start this season. Jokic and Embiid was not options. I always thought JV from the Pels would be a sneaky good pickup for this but that's not moving the needle for this team.
We need to either play AJ or flip him for an upgrade in the front court.
AJs value must be in the cellar right now. He hasn't been bad, he's been unplayable.

Bogi can only be moved if he is packaged for an all star type guy. There is no non all star type guy we can get back that would make it worth it.

Trae having such a great shooting night and were still losing to a 3-14 team says alot about this Defense.. Jesus Christ..
Bey at the 4 and zero size on the bench. I'm not surprised the Spurs are a tough, tough out. Trae has been on it for a little while now outside of the Cleveland dud, he's putting in the work at both ends. Problem is the roster construction, no depth outside of the top 8. What happened to AJ? why did we think we were set at the frontcourt? Even healthy we were already severely undersized and without JJ now it's comical. This is not a serious front office. They are happy to dwell in mediocrity as long as Trae continues to put butts on the seats. As a long time fan it's sad af.

Yea... if we can't beat the spurs I'm pretty much giving up on this year

Lateral move honestly. Grant isn't scoring 23ppg here, he'll average around 16-18 on average efficiency and be a step down on defense. Essentially a slight upgrade offensively and a slight downgrade defensively, and we lose another pick. Honestly we should be trying to acquire picks not give them away.

Do you consider any of the GS championship teams elite on defense?
They fooled the whole world. They showed you Draymond and said, we're a defensively elite team.
Some years they were good defensively. But every year, they had a Net rating that was sky high. The way that you win games still haven't changed. You have to outscore your opponent. If you put up a plethora of points and get just a couple of stops, you will win. Our team is capable of getting a couple of stops. Right now, our main problem is reverting back to one on one basketball and giving up second chance points.
I would happily take KAT, knowing that he's not going to improve our defense... because he improves our offense to the point where I won't have to worry about our ability to score.
I hate we didn't get a stud like Mark Williams. Somebody who just rebounds the ball and plays defense.
Their defensive ratings in their championship seasons were: 1st-2015, 2nd-2017, 11th-2018, 1st - 2022. So yea. I think the Nuggets last year at 15th were the worst ranked drtg team to win an NBA championship. Ever.
Almost every single championship team is elite (top3-5) on one end and at least very good (top 10-15) on the other. It doesn't really matter if it's defense or offense but you have to be able to be fantastic at one end and good in the other or you aren't consistently outscoring anyone.

Weeeeellllll........It's working for Indy in the early going. Is it sustainable? Probably not, but I'm sure there fans live it.
Our problem is, eben though we have a top 5 offense, we go thru these scoring droughts and then the defense gets much worse.
Indy hasn't been relevant for ages, for them a play in spot is a success at this stage. Hawks have been stuck playing. 500 ball after making the ECF going on for three years now. Elite on offense and crap on defense will gets you to the second round tops. Not sure that's what we are aiming for, I hope it's not.

Another game against a member of the east "rest of the pack". Can't drop these games if we want to avoid the play-in.

I think everyone would be much closer to your side if not on it if you were suggesting the firsts come out of the deal. Two firsts is a big ask in any deal let alone one that is reasonably balanced when they are completely removed.
Of course, Bogi for Caruso straight up would be worth considering, but adding two firsts on top is madness.

Also, Caruso is a PG, do we really need another one of these?

any defensive upgrade and somebody gotta go
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE UPGRADE DEFENSE..
even if we have to send out offense
We are cutting off our index finger on one hand to glue it on the other, not going to help us, and giving up more picks when we already gave up a bunch of picks for Murray is nauseating.

Much as I go on about a sniper in the starting lineup...Jalen Johnson has crept up to a very quiet 42% on 3s.
He needs to stop passing up open threes and let it fly.

Bro out here trying to be poster of the year. What has gotten into you? You might be the best poster this year. You ain't even stanning or hating. Just spitting. Wtf bro, you SGA of HS?
Not hating at all. I like all our players and Quin, but we just don't stack up against the top teams. Boston and Philly took huge step ups this year we are clearly not in their league, and if we can't consistently get stops it's going to be trading punches with the rest of the middle of the pack teams that are all pretty stacked and vastly improved from the last several years. Scoring is at an all time high, a lot of teams can score like crazy, it's not gonna set us apart.

I hope we arent always going to be mid. I like Quinn our front office and our roster so not sure why we cant be better on a consistent basis I think we gave the peices in place to be a 50 win team.
Nah, go watch other teams. This isn't 2021 both conferences are stacked with players that can go out there and hang 30 whenever they decide to. Giannis who is every bit as good as he was when he was winning MVPs is no where near the MVP conversation. Brooklyn is a play in team, they have a loaded roster that is arguably on our level. If this team doesn't make moves we will be fighting for a play in spot this year, no doubt about it at this point. Team has been completely healthy and playing hard every single night, we aren't gonna magically transform into a good defensive team which is what we are absolutely going to have to be to win more games than we lose in 2023.

Just curious what are you getting from his pressers?….is it that his defense requires a historic defensive figure like Gobert just to work?
is he trying to utilize Capela and OO like Gobert and realizing he’s at just not working ??
Guess what folks, if you don't have good defensive players are undersized at key positions it doesn't matter if you have the best defensive coach in the history of the game, you will suck at defense. Snyder can't go out there rebound the ball and contest shots of guys with a foot advantage in wingspan. Roster constructions is clearly flawed

Maybe Quinn needs to incorporate the big line up more often than he does with Hunter at the 2 because this is getting ridiculous
I think it would improve the defense for sure, but are we cutting Murray's minutes to do that? That's gonna cause problems internally.

Hes gonna have to be moved.. I doubt they trade Trae so Murray needs to go for a legit BIG that can stretch the floor and protect the rim.... I like Murray too.. But I dont like the pairing..
JJJ or someone similar ?
We may just have to find our guy in the draft..
We got 2 chances this year.. Any good young bigs available like that?
Team will definitely have to chose between Murray and Trae at some point soon. It's not just defensively both require the ball in their hands and are not maximized at all when on the floor together. It's not a cosmic coincidence that they both rarely have a good game at the same time.

If DJ is gonna remain at 2 then he needs to get on a muscle building diet and gain weight. He just to damn slim for me
Unless he gets leg extensions even that won't matter. Dude couldn't get within one yard of Mikal's shot release.

Names please
We can't defend the perimeter. Trae and Murray together means there is a big time mismatch at all times. No one on the bench outside of OO who is undersized and gives up offensive boards plays any defense.

Just now, Peoriabird said:The Hawks are not going to win games consistently playing defense like that our like they did against Indy. I thought Quinn was a good coach? No?
Utah was a perennial top 3 defense with Quinn. Maybe the players who consistently have been awful at defense for over three seasons across two different coaches is the problem?.

Win or lose the list of teams that I can say with full confidence the Hawks are better than seems to shrink by the day.
