If you don't have those guys, I would hate to see your pretty team face those guys.
The game always gets back to the game. He who controls the ball wins. Yeah, you can shoot threes. Yeah, you can make pretty passes. Yeah, you can look good at all you do... but look how long it took Jason Kidd to get a ring. How about Dirk. They had to wait til the teams that controlled the ball got old.
Why do you think Lebron has lost 6 titles...
So you think players like Vernon Maxwell, Charles Oakley and Anthony Mason being the best of them would make it in this league?
Their 1st foul would be flagrant. I doubt they'd be able to stay on the court. LeBron is skilled but he's no push over.
The rules may be softer but the overall skill and players are better.
The game is the game and will always come back to the game. This game basketball though. People pay to see basketball not wrestling/boxing.
All it takes is a want to win and someone in the way to create a rivalry. Players/teams don't have to beat each other up to become rivals.
We are definitely rivals as far as the Knicks are concerned. We didn't beat them up we just finessed them with more skills.

Erm, easily I'd trade a package of players for Giannis, KD, Jokic, or Bam Adebayo, probably Tatum too.
Name the players... What package would you put together?
Be honest with yourself as well and make sure we are a better not worse team from your trade. Also make sure the trade is realistic.

What's your definition of dynasty? Usually that means 3 rings.
3 minimum. I expect 5 and if we supercede expectations possibly 7.

I tend to think you are overrating some of our guys a bit. Depending on the outgoing assets, I'd certainly trade a package of players for KD or Giannis.
I tend to think too many fall for the over rating of the media.
Also we are building a dynasty here. I wouldn't trade for Durant just to get 1 to possibly 3 championships before we'd have reset/restart.
Giannis is elite as well but until he gets a 3 pointer and his free throws up to par would he really be worth changing the chemistry of our team or worth trading JC, Hunter/Cam/Huerter (atleast 3 of the 4) and some picks because that would be his asking price.
I'm not over rating just looking at the team as currently constructed and realizing we will be looking at a few of our players 3 to 5yrs down the road that we're looking at the top of that list.
For once we have young players that can actually reach and exceed projections and it wouldn't be worth giving up on them before their prime.
Too many struggle to see what's right in front of them until hindsight. I pride myself in not being one of those people. That usually keeps me ahead of the crowd.

It brings me to another question that baffles me every time I hear it brought up.
Who is the "superstar" you would trade any of our young core for?
To me anyone of those "top 19" would be flawed for our team. They are either aging (LeBron, Durant, Curry). Injury prone (AD, Joel Embiid, Kawhi) or still need a little work (Giannis). Redundant (Kyrie, Dame) or really don't have an upside as high as our players.
I could possibly see Zion as a "superstar" guy we have our eye on but I wouldn't trade any group of our current young players for any of the top 19.
I can easily see Trae, Cam and even Dre as superstars. John should be an allstar this up and coming season. Huerter and OO can definitely be high level starters. Sharife and Jalen definitely have the potential to be elite.
Even our "role" players like Skylar Mays could be a good starter or high level bench guy on other teams.
I'm glad many more fans are starting to recognize what we have. Also for those of us that have been long time fans and have been thru many struggles and disappointments I hope you're aware that this is not any of those teams.
It's a new day in the A and get ready to go from underdogs to top dogs for atleast the next 5 - 10yrs. We are miles ahead of the competition and these next 2 off seasons should finalize that.

Summer league is over (for us) and the nba landscape is shaped. Barring serious injuries, get ready to see our 1st nba title in the Atl. The only thing that can stop us is us.
We have the deepest roster (in house competition), chemistry (continuity), experience/hunger. We also have the most potential breakouts and in my opinion we are the best team currently constructed.
Last year was the foundation to set this dynasty in motion.
This yr we should be holding up the 1st trophy of many.
Can't wait to see this movie play out!!

I have a feeling you never watched those guys. Skills are more than dribbling between the legs. Mason in particular could pretty much do it all.
But if you are talking about building teams from all of NBA history from the all-time greats, then of course you aren’t going to hear many names beyond the level of Magic, Kareem, Duncan, LeBron, etc.
Oakley would have to diversify his game to fit in today’s NBA but I have zero doubts he could do it. He shot a lot of long 2pt jumpers very effectively and >76% from the line so it isn’t much of a reach to see him shooting 3’s if he came up in this era.
Mason was a point forward for a lot of his prime so I have no idea why he would be on any list of limited, unskilled players from his era. He might be on the short list of guys who could be plucked from that era and successfully dropped into today’s game for the right team. Shooting range would be something he and every other big man from that time would need to develop.
I wouldn't even go hall of fame far they wouldn't even be near Allstars.
Mason and Vernon were decent but nothing to brag about.
I been an nba fan since Dominique so yeah I definitely watched those guys. They sucked to me then but were necessary. They wouldn't/would barely make it in the league now. It's more of a skills/finesse game.
They don't have it compared to most of the players now of days. More importantly they were 6'4 - 6'7 playing powerforward. They would be considered what the PJ Tucker/Dort (OKC) type players.
Ivan Johnson was way more skilled than them and would've been a star in their era if they were highly considered.

Miles McBride playing like he definitely wanted to be a Hawk lol... This is great for Sharife so he has a competitor that's going to make him work harder.
I almost hate to say that there were ever any Knicks players I like but Miles McBride and Jericho Sims are definitely two of them.
All and all I still love our picks.

Anthony Mason would school the vast majority of bigs in the league today on a skills basis. In his prime he was averaging around 10 rebounds and 5 assists per game to go with his scoring. He wasn't just a thug. (Neither was Oakley whose toughness was not the kind of fake "let's pretend we are about to fight" and more about moving you off your spots and sealing you off from a board. He was also a capable passer in an era where PFs who weren't primary scorers didn't handle the ball very much.)
If you're building a team of any time period in nba history and trying to create the most skilled team possible 9 times out of 10 you won't hear any of those names.

If he stays with us on another two way one more yr he can hold down Lou Wills spot (reserve guard) next yr.

Nobody.
There aren’t rivalries anymore. The league is all buddy buddy now. It’s a soft league with mostly soft players.
Buddy buddy or not it's a difference when they step in between the court. It's also easy to call players the league soft until you're out there.
I wouldn't necessarily call it soft there is just way more skilled players out there so you don't need goons (Anthony Masons, Vernon Maxwell, Charles Oakley and etc as much to go fight on the court for you.
Now it's more break your ankles, bust in your face, yam on you or ridiculous block skillset driven type of plays.

Johnson's perimeter and ball handling skills can't be denied. He's easily the better passer. And I think he's the better isolation player, although De'Andre has vastly improved his midrange game. Cam is potentially a better 3 point shooter, but consistency has been his issue from that range.
I wouldn't say that he's a better man defender than De'Andre or Cam, but he definitely has a better array of offensive skills than those two. It's going to be VERY INTERESTING how Nate uses him. You almost have to play him at the 3, with spot minutes at the 4. He definitely makes Gallo expendable either during the season, or next offseason.

To me, the ratings in red are ridiculous. The guy is easily one of the 5 best athletes in this draft. And at 6-9, his size is ideal to put at the 3 and even as a small ball 4 in a quick lineup He didn't shoot the 3 with enough volume in college, so I can see why people may have had doubts with his long range shooting. But I'm tempted to even bump him up here.
He's DEFINITELY NBA ready. I don't think few people can deny that. And as far as intangibles, he has that too, with the way he can be a secondary ball handler and be a very good weak side defender. He's also ultra confident, which will help him adjust to the league very quickly.
Nate has a very good problem on his hands. He has a playoff tested team that has good to great chemistry together. And he doesn't have to rush putting the kids on the floor in expanded roles.
But how do you keep Jalen Johnson out of this rotation? I honestly don't think you can.
At minimum, he completely takes over the Solo spot as our 3rd string SF/PF. At maximum . . . he plays well enough to justify him being the 6th/7th man . . . or even starting, if Hunter and Reddish continue to be hampered by injuries.
And by the start of the 2022 - 23 season, our best wing may be Johnson . . . not Hunter or Reddish.
I like the enthusiasm and it will probably be true in 3 -4yrs. We can't forget though that he's still a rookie. If he was bullying summer league ala like a LeBron James in his early yrs I would absolutely agree.
He's ultimately just going to push guys like Cam and Dre same way they pushed Huerter in a sense. Nobody wants to lose their spot to a rookie and it brings out the best in competitive nature.
His raw skills are better than theirs but I don't know if he'll be a better defender currently. He has all the intangibles but defense doesn't seem to excite him like it does Cam. Hunter is so fundamentally sound on defense it will be hard to catch up with him early on as well.
Offensively Jalen Johnson has a ways to go to catch either of them. His athleticism and passing will be his main tools now.
JC definitely isn't going to let the rookie take his spot any time soon but that debate might actually look different 3 -4yrs down the road.
Jalen should be great but we also have to be realistic about summer league and the adjustments it takes for a rookie.
With all the competition on our team though I almost feel sorry for the rest of the league . Not only should it be great practices but players will be anxious coming off the bench that want to prove they are just as good as the starters.
Facing this A Squad you better bring your A game because there is going be no let ups.

Also we have JC. For all the Bam credit I'm taking JC over Bam. I would pick Ayton over the other centers but role is of key importance.
If Ayton could play the same role as Clint and lead the league in rebounds and be an anchor on defense and constant floor runner than yeah Ayton over Clint.

For those that love a good Atlanta Hawks/Boston Celtics rivalry @Gray Mule, it should be pretty good with Dennis on their team.
Dennis was a big fan of Rajon Rondo when he was in Boston. That on top of the fact that Dennis has been one of the laughing stocks turning down an 84mil contract I'm sure Dennis will atleast make a strong effort this yr with Boston.
When Dennis is zoned in he's a pretty good point guard and paired with Jaylon Brown and Jason Tatum it should be some fun narratives.
Dennis (Da Menace) vs the reason he got traded from us (Ice Trae)
Our wings vs their wings
The possible return of Bruno and Dunn
More past vs present with Clint and Al Horford.
There will be a few parity's with this matchup including 2 young teams showing alot of promise early.
Should be a fun matchup overall that I still expect us to dominate.

Thanks I was wondering what the summer league records as a whole was.
I know Jordan has played with us in summer league I was just wondering did he actually make our real roster like implied during our 4th summer league game.
-
He's not playing with our summer league squad and during the summer league game they reported that he's on our roster.
Is this true or was it a mistake on their part?
I haven't been impressed with Jordan Bell's fundamentals (being a vet especially) but still can't deny his athleticism. I'm sure in our culture he can highly improve as a player overall but I'm just trying to stay updated.

It definitely would be. We have to also keep in mind that not all teenagers coming into their 20's mature at the same pace.
The good/great thing about us is we have plenty of players around his age that can set a better example for him. Not only are they his age but they are more skilled than him at this point. His talent alone want cut it on this team if he doesn't put in the work physically and mentally.
We are one of the teams in the best position to enjoy the risk vs reward with Jalen Johnson.

I agree with all the premises here. But I think the most likely outcome is that, absent a significant injury or regression by Bogi (or no significant improvement from Cam), we trade Huerter at the deadline in a major consolidation trade that brings us a second star. Either a package with Capela to bring in an even more elite big, or in a package with Gallo's effectively-expiring contract to a team that's going nowhere now but could see Huerter taking on a major role with them (or that would be in a better position than us to sign-and-trade him next offseason).
Like you said, Huerter is in a weird spot where he is kind of replaceable in his current role on the Hawks, but he could be another team's Bogi--a big (a bit taller than Bogi, but less wingspan) guard who is serviceable on D and a versatile scorer. If we think Bogi's going to maintain his level of play for the next 2-3 seasons and that Cam will continue improving for the next couple years as well, then Huerter's the odd man out here. And we would probably rather get significant assets for him than be in the position to match a contract that we *really* don't want to match. Because unlike JC, Huerter is unlikely to be a projected starter here next season, and there's a real chance he gets a 4/$80M offer, which is way too much/too long to commit to a guy who we don't think will ever start.
I agree for the most part if we just have to make a trade. I also know if it's not broke don't fix it if we were to attempt to fix it I think a 22/23yr old Kevin will be a little more valuable than the 29yr old Bogi will in 3yrs.
More length, better defender, more athletic and I'm hoping we are able to get him on a cheaper deal than Bogi.
I like Bogi but let's be honest Kevin can get more consistent on his jump shot. Bogi can't reach Kevin's intangibles. If we have to get rid of anyone it should be our vets before our young proven talent that's only getting better.

Myles Turner would actually make my list over Bobby Portis but I'd have Sharife on a two so I could keep them both.
A future line up of
Jalen Johnson, Cam Reddish, Bol Bol, Onyeka Okongwu and Myles Turner/Mo Bamba
Would be frustrating for any offense. More importantly we can still score from anywhere on the court. I can't wait till Onyeka shows his jump shot/3ball.

If you are elite at drafting and trading. Your a small market team. That's as good as it gets.
Sad but probably true... I would hope winning would attract more suitable owners but they would not only have to win but change the whole city to make it attractive for buyers.
Sad and I'm glad we're no longer that type of franchise and that we've been had a pretty attractive city.
It has to suck knowing the job you have to do and knowing you can't do it properly. Kudos to him for getting creative with what he has to work with if that is the case which is highly possible.
Still again as Travis has shown their are ways to work around the budget while still using it to your advantage.

He's still the only GM to draft 3 MVPs. His trades have been massive wins for the most part outside of the one he really didn't want to make but had to because of ownership. We know what that means from our ASG days. I don't see how you can put anyone outside of Masai ahead of him.
I admit he definitely does that part of GMing right. He definitely drafts well (Ibaka, Reggie Jackson, the MVP's and more) but that's only one portion of being a GM. I think he may struggle a bit with budgeting which is probably why he decided to just make sure he has all the draft picks he needs and try to hit homeruns for a four year ( rookie deal) stand.
Of course he's going to have to pay players, he's definitely going to lose some. With that many picks though he is working to his strengths and should be able to make a nice run at it.
I am keeping an eye on him (wondering when/how he'll strike) but if I had to choose one I'm easily choosing the guy that can do it all (Travis Schlenk)...
Schlenk has me and the rest of the league in GM school right now. I definitely seen how some of them woke up this offseason after our playoff run. Warriors definitely included... Back to class lol

Those were more for cap and losing purposes. I actually liked Lin and believe he taught Trae how to keep the defenders on his back.
I wasn't a fan of the Turner trade either. I tried to have hope as a fan but we saw the results.
I agree though I saw alot of misses though with players like Tyler Dorsey, Alpha Kabba, picking Bruno over Bol Bol... Spellman of course
Overall he's done great though compared to other GM's that I've seen just butcher building a team. Houston has been the latest example but we appreciate Clint. I want make fun of the Kings right now or Milwaukee for that matter but I will give them a shout out as well!

If it ain't broke don't fix it. Altering the course more than likely may not even work in our favor.
One wrong splashy move could see all of our current core eventually walking out the door possibly to even team up with each other elsewhere.
Ala (OKC), the Pacers with Kawhi & George (I definitely know Dre and Cam love being on the same squad). One wrong move could make it all tumble down. I hate to take another teams slogan but trust the process.
