I know its early in the season but the Hawks look like the best team in the east so far.  I know that a lot of posters don't believe in the our young core and will point to the fact that none of them except Trae has made an all star appearance but I'm will push back and blame media bias.  I predicted 4 all stars for this up coming season and after game 1, I can make the case for each one of them.

Hunter is possibly the 3rd best defensive wing in the league.  Combine that with the his ability on Offense which he displayed last year pre injury makes him a strong candidate for the all star team

John Collins is an easy case for me.  One of the most efficient players in the league on offense and now his defense is top 20 maybe top 10 easily makes him a strong candidate for him to be an All star

Clint Capela will be on the all defensive team and probably lead the league in rebounding again.  If game 1 is any indicator, he has even improved his touch around the rim.  should have been an all star last year.

The league will not make the mistake of leaving Trae Young off the all star team again.

And of course I'll stand by my statement that Trae's supporting cast and the Hawks bench are superior to any team in the East including Milwaukee.

Did I make this post? I don't remember but for some reason my name is showing as @Peoriabird 🤔

Excited to listen to McM talk about how our depth allows guys to not have to pace themselves, but to go all out for all of their minutes. I've dreamed for years, not even kidding, of a roster with this kind of depth for the express purpose of seeing what could be achieved with a legit two-unit rotation, and 10-12 seeing the floor every game instead of 8-9.

This is how I've killed teams for yrs in nba2k...

People were wondering why I always blew them out before the game was over no matter who they had.

My team was always fresher and capable of the 3 & D. Ahead of my time I guess but that's another reason why I see a dynasty.

Sooooo... you're trying to tell me, when Schlenk said to Kirschner in early August...

    LWR_Recording.png

...he'd forgotten about the start of last season, and failed to include that in his reasoning, and therefore we should disregard the comment as irrelevant.

    Okay.

Can't go there with you, obviously. Oh well.

    Is his contract guaranteed?

Are there known bigs available right now that would fit our squad?

You may be looking too hard into this one.

As much as I'm not a fan of TLC I do trust Travis and his grand scheme of things. I also know he may not even touch the floor with us during the regular season besides spot minutes and cigar time (blow outs).

True Solo was in this position last yr but Solo lucked up because of injuries and earned his minutes. Honestly I felt about the same with Solo then that I do now with TLC. Maybe TLC surprises like Snell and Solo did last yr before the playoffs.

Nothing wrong with a little short term insurance while we use these next 2 months to figure out our official move with him.

Inclined yes, definitely will add No.....and he didn't.  Possible reasons other that Hunter's knee (which EVERYBODY is monitoring closely):  OO as he has indicated (he hopes to be back by December although TS said otherwise) may be back sooner than originally thought...maybe the scraps on the market at Centre is not something Nate was interested in....maybe after seeing Jalen Johnson up close they will give give some PF minutes which slides Collins and/or Gallo some C minutes (not realistic, but you never know).

That and the fact that TLC still has to earn a guaranteed contract if I'm not mistaken. If he doesn't earn it before January he could easily be replaced if needed.

Also knowing Travis he's 2 steps ahead and if he has to trade someone like Gallo a little earlier than expected TLC could be an extra trade filler so we don't have to think about adding any of our young wings.

Again we aren't sure but still if @JayBirdHawk and me are comfortable with it that means don't panic.

I didn't want to touch TLC at all but as a 15th man on a roster this deep he doesn't hurt temporarily or even possibly for the full yr.

It is that time of year again Squawkers.  Throw down your marker and let your Hawks flag fly.

Give us your predictions for the following (the ones after record serve as tie breakers):

1 - What is your prediction for the Hawks 82 game record?

2 - How many All-Stars will the Hawks have this year and secondarily who makes it?

3 - Rank the following players by who will play the most total minutes (so list all 4 in order from most minutes to least and that is total minutes not minutes per game): Jalen Johnson, Sharife Cooper, Lou Williams, Solomon Hill.

4 - How many Hawks will make the end of the season All-Rookie team and who makes it?

5 - Rank these players by best 3pt% from highest to lowest:  Gallo, Bogi, Trae, Kev, JC.

(You can list predicted minutes and 3pt% if you want but that will only serve as a tiebreaker if all 5 categories are identical).

I thought for sure we did this already but...

1 - What is your prediction for the Hawks 82 game record? 60 Wins

2 - How many All-Stars will the Hawks have this year and secondarily who makes it? Trae, JC, CC ( I wouldn't be surprised if Hunter and Bogi made it either but it might be harder for the wings).

3 - Rank the following players by who will play the most total minutes (so list all 4 in order from most minutes to least and that is total minutes not minutes per game):  Lou Williams, Jalen Johnson, Solomon Hill Sharife Cooper (just for minutes not impact)

4 - How many Hawks will make the end of the season All-Rookie team and who makes it? Possibly none although they both should qualify

5 - Rank these players by best 3pt% from highest to lowest:  BogiJC, Gallo, Trae, Kev. (Tough one but I think usage rate will put them in this order.) I also think Hunter will be high on this list.

As of now TLC is still on the roster with non-guaranteed contract (similar to the Solomon Hill contract from last year was the initial report, so I'm guessing a Jan 2020 fully guaranteed date if not waived before).

Reposting just in case some more people need to see this.

I too believe he has to earn his spot like Solo & Travis will keep his eyes wide open before the deadline to make sure we have exactly what we need before the new year/break.

That's the process... have to sign to an E-10, then waive, then the G-League team has to sign him. First discovered that last season when our old friend Skal Labissiere signed an E-10 with the Knicks, only to be waived a few days later, and then signing with their affiliate.

Thanks, so we shouldn't be surprised if Hamilton is next. I notice he and Jalen currently struggle with each other but once they get what Clint and John do they should be good.

Hamilton and Okafor as well as TLC should get alot of minutes this game. More than likely TLC will be cut after followed by Okafor. Hamilton should atleast make our G League.

  8. I hate to say it like this but Skylar Mays should start.

That might break the cycle of are starting PG's tweaking something in the preseason.

Skylar is slightly more slow and methodical so he may be less likely to hurt himself.

Anybody looking for real preseason wins at this point are just being greedy 😁

We will look like we should once the season starts.

  9. Gorgiu Dieng is a better passer/playmaker than expected.

Delon Wright has a pretty decent hessy.

Both Dieng and Wright are pretty much as advertised and will be a great addition to our team.

Our 14 roster spot will remain open going into the season unless Sharife gets signed guaranteed and Johnny Hamilton is signed to a 2 way.

Speaking of the two Sharife is going to make the Skyhawks a must see like our Atlanta Hawks.

Johnny will be solid with more development.

Jalen Johnson is going to be solid but still a rookie.

Cam Reddish and Kevin Huerter are going to turn our bench into a legitimate threat for any team along with Wright/Lou, Gallo and Dieng.

We can possibly have 4 allstars this yr with Trae, JC, Clint and Hunter/Bogi. Possibly even getting 5 and topping our 60 win team in that department.

Nothing is 100%.  IF it were eradication of many things would be easy.  It's not like scientist are sitting around saying... well, this is 90% effective... that's good enough.   In the absence of specialized medicines, your body, genetic makeup and such things determine how effective any drug will be.   Because of the genome, it's different for each person.  Similar to how some people love chocolate and some don't like it at all.   You are never going to get 100% in the medicinal drug game.   So there's no need to argue there.

The argument lies in Herd Immunity and Pseudo eradication.  There's a chance to stop this virus forever.  The question is are you only concerned about you or could your concerns be extended to others.   Two people I work with have contracted this virus.  One a younger man who believed that his youth made him invincible and the other an older man who believed that because he was a believer in Dr. Sebi's teaching and followed everything that Dr. Sebi had ever said that his body was immune.   The  younger man contracted the virus.  He had a short hospital stay.  He survived.  Came back to work believing that now he was truly immune.  Somehow, he got it a second time.  This time he got it and  mysteriously a little later, the older man got the virus.   The older man died within two weeks.   The younger man survived and he still believes that he has natural immunity.

I believe that had either of them got the vaccine, the older man would still be alive.  Yes, I feel that the younger man passed it on to the older man.  They work in the same space.   Due to his own selfishness, he has aided in the death of somebody else.  So far me, this is less about a political side pick.  This virus doesn't care about your politics.  This is a choice of life or death and it breaks down to a question of do you care about others or is it just about you?

Than it ain't for my body.

Crazy thing is nobodies talking about all the people that's dying and still getting sick after the vaccine. I wonder why?

Your examples still just gave an example of personal health. You do what you need to do to keep your body healthy. You can't just take medicine, vaccines or whatever and think nothing will happen. Our diet comes with consequences over time. Which is why unfortunately it's catching up with the older sooner. It's not science it's common sense. Cause and effect

  11. What did y'all think about media day?

To me it wasn't the most professional but I will say it was kinda funny.

Our media asking one question to alot of our guys and most questions weren't even for the guy they were talking to.

I know Skylar Mays was like "did y'all really just have me up here to talk about 2 other people?"

It was embarrassingly hilarious at times but still funny.

Look around look around.   Right now, Covid is a death sentence for the unvaccinated.   And some may be fine with that.. but if it goes farther... you may see people saying... my taxes shouldn't pay for unvaccinated people taking up Hospital beds.  It's a cold world out here.

The country is definitely free.  But you have to live with the consequences of those freedoms too.  So It's not really free.   I mean you can say what you want... Freedom of speech.. but that doesn't mean you get to keep your job!

Right now you can be unvax...  BUT eventually, the question will be asked.. why should you get to ride on my airline and possibly effect others?  Why should you work in my business and possibly effect others?  Why should you be able to come into my venue and possibly effect others?  Why should I let you in my country so that you can effect others?

So you do have your freedoms for now... but this world is cold.

I agree they shouldn't have to pay.

Just like for people that take care of ourselves we shouldn't have to pay because others don't care what they put in there bodies.

I don't take aspirin, tylenol or none of that. Modern medicine more than likely wouldn't even react well in my body.

That's the key thing though my body. Just like I can't tell nobody how to eat they can't tell me what to put in my body.

If you wanna argue do it with the vaccine makers with all this technology and scientific discovery to make something that works better. If it did you wouldn't worry about what others do with their body. Maybe even more would feel more comfortable taking it if they knew they atleast were really protected.

People fighting the wrong people and the wrong fight.

  13. How about everyone just go vegan. Alkaline your body and you don't have to worry about viruses or diseases.

Or is telling people what to put in there bodies their choice?

If not go vegan no more meat and dairy. Do that and then tell me who's worried about a vaccination.

If we can't tell you what to put in your body don't tell the next person. Simple as that.

If the vaccine worked like it should nobody would worry about who's vaccinated and who's not. It would just be "smart" people and dead people. Either somethings not working or somethings not right.

I see the unvaccinated homeless still alive and well. What kinda "free" country do we live in when there's no choice on what we put in our bodies?

Again if the vaccine works than good for the vaccinated but it obviously doesn't if everyone has to get it for it to work. Sounds like bs.

There's a feature in NBA 2K22 that allows you to build a team from scratch.  When that happens, 8 players from the current team are protected from being selected in the Expansion draft.  If the NBA were to announce that Seattle and Kansas City were about to be awarded NBA franchises, which 8 Hawks players would you protect?  I'm going to assume that we'd get 100% consensus on Trae Young being protected.

Out of these 10 players . . pick (3) that you WOULD NOT PROTECT.

Jumped the gun without reading. Gallo is on my list from the choices.

Cam has underwhelmed so far but that's based on him. Not his potential which is off the charts.

Cam offensive ceiling is Norm Powell. He's been performing closer to a terrible day Norm Powell than Powell outside of the playoffs.

Defensively, Cam is inconsistent as well. He moves and covers ground like Danny Green but lacks the discipline Green has. It took Green going into his 3rd season to figure it our defensively. Danny was a 4 year college player. If Cam figures it out this year, that would probably be right on time. He also has tremendous perimeter versatility like Ben Simmons. He just doesn't have Ben's strength and body maturity. He's never going to have Ben's size but he needs to be a great size for his frame.

Cam's right now outside of flashes is a rotational player impact wise. His talent screams star if he's consistent. Cam isn't a versatile offensively player but having tremendous skill,  being a bucket and scoring a lot in limited touches is extremely valuable to an offense impact wise. Especially one like ours. Cam's movement off the ball was a strength we saw Nate use that LP didn't bother as we saw with Bogi.

Hunter of all three is the most limited scorer but he's the most polished scorer. He can shoot, pass, dribble, post up, and he has really good intelligence where he doesn't make stupid mistakes like the others. Hunter lack of tremendous skill, bigger hands, and off ball movement with a Kawhi mentality of wanting to analyze the game when he touches the ball kinds hurts him as a #4 or #5 option. That said, his defensive value for us is 2nd to only Capela. Even with Cam defensive potential, Hunter ability to guard 1-4 is a massive game changer for us. Hunter has shown time and time again that he's one of the most valuable defenders in the NBA even if no one knows outside of Atlanta.

JJ has tremendous potential and I see him more as a 4 than a 3. I can see why he's so appealing offensively as a swingman in general. Once he can showcase a reliable jumpshot, there is no question he is established as a 3 level scorer. He can also pass it and pass it extremely well for a 4 considering his age and experience.

For JJ, shooting, off ball movement, off ball IQ, discipline when not involved or frustrated, and emotional intelligence is what defines him. A player that also comes to mind when I think about JJ is a young Rasheed Wallace. He's not quite as good as a rookie Sheed but the potential is enormous.

You lost me somewhere long ago.... Boo this man 🤣 j/k but I can't read past that statement lol...

Someone asked if Jalen should be ahead of other guys on the depth chart right now.  I'm not saying he should get PT over anyone currently.  What does feel off for me was the reaction to the post that he could be better than Hunter, Reddish, and Huerter.

I have seen this board react to summer league play of 1st rounders, 2nd rounders, and undrafted players and posters will give some crazy hype without much reason.  Jalen comes out and I honestly can't remember a summer league rookie on our team looking that good.  It was the WAY he got his buckets and played.  Some guys have put up stats, but this dude looked like a mixture of Josh Smith and John Collins.  He played so clean and smooth.  Completely in control.  It feels like the inverse of the blind hope that gets applied to other guys when they flash any potential in summer league.  More like irrational lowering of expectations and discarding how he looked.  To apply a term like Rorshach test to a guy who beasted like Jalen means you are going to an extreme degree to minimize what we saw.  Basically says his showing means absolutely nothing.

I will believe in a crude eye test until I see others make Jalen look ordinary.  Same with Cam.  This will be his 3rd year to demonstrate his potential if you count Duke.  So far he has a pretty bad track record of living up to the hype.  Could be tons of flaws in my point of view.  I'm only sharing my reactions on a fan message board.  My take right now is Jalen >>> Cam.

Corrected. These guys are still super young. They haven't had much time in the league yet.

Ummm....are we talking about the same player?  Here are Josh's FG% numbers by distance:

0-3 feet from the rim:  .669%   -- Great strong start here!

3-10 feet from the rim:  .354% -- Wait, just moving out a few feet causes his FG% to crash to horrific lows?!?

10-16 feet from the rim:  Good here we are in mid-range primetime so this should be really good, right?  .266%  :barf:

16-3pt range:  .345% -- that is really, really bad

3pt range:  ,285% -- my eyes, my eyesssss

So not sure what Josh Smith you are talking about but here is how every Hawks fan should have reacted the moment Josh Smith tried to take any kind of jumper:

    raw

It might've only been a yr to 3 at max. Definitely didn't say he was born shooting lol... He did eventually develop a mid range and went off during that season.

Maybe it was one of the yrs Horford went down. Don't act like we all didn't know he was a work in progress though lol... He eventually progressed with the midrange for us.

Too bad he tried to include 3's like the yr after. It just made it all look bad.

  19. 23 hours ago, AHF said:

I don't know if Jalen has all the physical tools that Josh Smith did - will have to watch more of him to truly assess.  But what I do love in this comparison is that Josh had Grand Canyon sized holes in his game that with his stubborn nature were ultimately were his undoing as a player.  I don't see any real holes in Jalen's game.  Not that he is amazing at everything at this point but I don't see the glaring weaknesses that would make the parallel to Josh Smith really complete.  Because as great as Josh was at so many things, his jumper and insistence on emphasizing jump shooting overshadows every one of his gifts.

It is so early in Jalen's career that I'm not really putting expectations on him at this point.  He is a very exciting upside talent that could be a huge value pick for the Hawks.  I'm just eager to see him come along.

I can't fully agree there. I think people forget Josh became mid range shawty for a reason.

The issue was the timing in which he took his 3's. Admittedly it was a momentum killer. We as fans didn't make it better because we didn't give him a chance to develop that because of how good the rest of his game was.

That constant us vs him battle he had going on is what created the rift. Ultimately shortened his career because he refused to ease gaining a 3pt shot with grace.

He had the midrange down pack though.
