Our backup center is not going to be the difference maker between making and missing the playoffs.  This season's success or lack thereof will be all about the readiness and development of our young wings.  Collins will be just fine playing limited minutes as the small ball center with Hunter as the PF.

It might be a difference if he has to play 23 min and there is a huge drop off on performance because your starting center cannot play more than 25 min. We have a hole and is not certain Spellman or Fernando can cover it, summer league will help to know what we have.

This team had a negative 6 point differential last season. Only 4 teams were worse. The team was dead last in points given up.

Kevin Hueter will probably have to make the biggest leap as I have serious doubt that Trae will make any notable improvement on that end.

No matter how “NBA ready” Hunter is... He will probably struggle with the pace the NBA and the length of the season.

John Collins needs to learn to box out because he is terrible at it.

Either way, we’re clearly not going to agree. So whatever.

I think we are understimating the contributions we will receive from Evan Turner and Allen Crabbe, another year of experience for Bembry and Len, that are still young players and the growth Young, Collins and Huerter are supposed to have. Those are already 7 players, add the 3 rookies and Spellman and you have a rotation of 11 players, not even counting Solomon Hill that I think could eventually provide some help.

We have lost Bazemore, his cobtribution will be replaced by Crabbe. I think is better fit for the team.

We have lost Prince and his contribution will be replaced by Hunter, I expect slightly worst offense but definately much better defense.

We have lost Lin, but the team had his best run without him, with Adams backing Young. I don't like Turner but he will provide better defense and good passing instead of Lin and anyway is not that Lin was contributing to winning

And we lost Dedmon and we do not have a replacement for now... Spellman and Fernando could cover his minutes but best run of the team came with Dedmon missing half of the games. I think he was key for the team, but Spellman and Fernando could cover his absence and we can find someone at FA.

Apart from these additions and substractions we have added Cam Reddish that can replace Vince Carter's production.

I see we clearly lose with Demon's departure, I don't like our backup PG but is also true that neither Lin or Dedmon were key contributors to the bigger run of the team. We have some young players with potential improvements and rookies that have a lot of potential in paper. We are a big away to be at least as good as last year. Summer lesgue will be a good indicator of what we can expect.

  3. Damn I thought Wood could be signed. I understand trade with Minnesota might be tough but I think Dieng is a great fit for us.

Other options we might consider would be Looney and Kaminski although Noel is a better option in my opinion

  4. 15m$ of cap space and presumably a hole to be covered at Center position. Assuming that Dedmon will ve gone with a good contract and Atlanta will not pay big bucks for him what would be the big you would like to sign?

    Two options I would like

1- Christian Wood, young big with upside, can play PF and C, very mobile, can space the floor, good rim protector, more than average defender. His contract should be cheap, around 4m$ and would provide excellent value for that price, similar to Len. Good fit for the team.

2- Gorgui Dieng, we should have taken him instead of Bebe, also can play PF and C, good rebounder, can space the floor also, good defender. Good fit for Atlanta, his contract is high but he is a very good player when given minutes. Minnesota wants to sign De Angelo, need to dump salaries. We  can take Dieng and Teague contracts for Plumlee, Mnnesota needs to add a first so that we can take those salaries. Teague is also expiring, Dieng has 2 years left.

3- Noel, defensive specialist, good rim protector, excellent rebounder, cannot hit the 3, cannot space the floor. Not so good fit on the offensive end but really solves the need of defensive presence at Center position.

Those are my 3 top choices. What would be your choice?

  5. Umm I have seen a lot of comparisons for him, some linked to his ceiling, Paul George, Joe Johnson, Mcgrady, some others I don't like like Derozan or Wiggins and other s linked to his floor lije Rodney Hood or even Kevin Knox.

I think I see more Joe Johnson than Mcgrady or Paul George but maybe is just me. And I agree he could end as a Rodney Hood....

I wouldn't mind taking back Jeffrey to be our backup vet PG off the bench. I guess we'd hafta take Dieng as well? What would it take? Flipping Adams and Len (smaller salaries) to them with us getting a future pick back?

Ummmm, trade would be Adams and Plumlee for Dieng/Teague and a first round pick. Backup PG and C problem solved. Dieng fits very well on our team.

How this plays out is going to be interesting. To answer your 1st question, no. Huerter is not Pistol Pete lite.

Cam played some point in HS like Huerter did. Cam is 6'9" though. My biggest questions is will Cam get big enough to be a valid 4? If so can he be like Draymond for us?

Huerter has proven he can run the 2nd unit. So next is, will Huerter be a sixth man now with Hunter, Cam, Collins, a Center and Trae on the floor?

I like the idea of Huerter being a 2 or 3 or a sixth man. Hunter being a 2 or 3. Cam being a 3 or 4. I don't like the idea of Collins being a 5 so much. I think we have a much more flexible lineup now. And it is not like the days of Josh, Chilz, and Marvin. Huerter and possibly Cam are going to be much better balls handlers.

I think is going to be more, Huerter a 2, Cam a 2-3, Hunter a 3-4. Hunter cannot play 2

  8. I have never been so excited about a Hawks team, we have an incredible young core with a lot of upside, awesome combination of talent, size and athleticism on Young, Huerter, Reddish, Hunter, Collins... Adding some valuable pieces on Bembry, Spellman, Fernando and Len.

Is clear that the main hole unless Fernando explodes is Center. I doubt we have an outstanding option at C on FA on 2020 and 2021. Turner is not FA until 2024.

Probably the best option next season will be to continue building through the draft and take Wiseman to complete thw young core. Sounds like better plan that paying a lot for a FA that makes you better now but not enough to win a title or even Conference finals. Stay away of max contracts for guys like Vucevic.

  9. I would only consider at C on big names Dedmon at around 8m$ 3 years or (I know you would not agree) Demarcus Cousins, I think he could be a good fit here, his behaviour concerns me though.

Then if no big names I would go for a young player with upside as we did with Len last year, Woods is my favourite.

  10. Centers take longer to develop, I don't think we can expect much from Bruno on first year, summer league could be a good thermometer but we need to sign a player at C  Don't get me wrong I like him but if he can perform first year as these guys we may have really lucky on the draft.

Not including guys on rookie deals, here are three who I think would combine with Alex Len to give us most of Capela's production at a fraction of the cost:

    Dwight Powell

    Nelens Noel

    Richaun Holmes

    Javale McGee

Although I have always liked the first 3 you cannot compare their impact to Capela. Capela is much better offensively than all of them, defensively only Noel can be at his level, his impact on Winshare is much much higher, a much better rebounder, he is a much better player. OKC barely played Noel and Capela played for 35 mins on houston , there us ahuge difference.

Having said that I would love to have here Powell, Noel or even Holmes

  12. Funny I proposed the same on other topic.

Capela's stats would make him best player on the roster. He is improving FT% every year so perhaps he can shoot after all. We need a defensive center and he can play a huge role, I would do it for Brooklin's first.

  13. Christian Wood and Cheick Diallo are the best big FAs out there, Wood would be a great fit here.

Dedmon is the best big we can sign, he has been one of the best players at Atlanta, that is what advance stats say, but if he is going to command 15m $ per year on a multiyear deal at 29 probably is better to go with a guy with upside as Wood
