He's already turned down more per year than Bogi's deal, so offering him less than he already turned turn won't get a conversation started.

Yeah, not looking great. The market might be a little tight for him next year. Maybe McMillan can sway him.

There are so many reasons this is a no, let me count the ways:

    1. He's an UFA with rumblings that he wants to go to the Heat

    2. He recently turned down a 2yr/$45 mil extension meaning he's looking for waaaay more which we will HAVE TO pony up or we just wasted assets.

    3. Injured, again - we already have 1 injured SG coming off injury (Bogi) that is struggling, Dipo is also struggling since his return.

    4. 56% from 3

    5. Huerter and Snell are healthy

All good points. However, you only make the deal if you can agree on a resigning for a reasonable price. A Bogi like deal would be reasonable to me with some incentives based on health. It is risky, but he provides the one element that we don’t have outside of Trae if we want to seriously compete. The ability to create his own shot at a high level.   The first is a lot but if he is traded, someone (Golden State) will through in a first for him.

Until the Hawks start to consistently win with Trae just playing smart, hustling, and D'ing up, we need his 30 points.

Why are some of you so against Trae being an offensive superstar?  Especially when you know that when he's on his game, the Hawks hardly ever lose?

    The logic makes no sense.

    Under cover trolls?

  4. Cam only has one issue and when he figures it out, he will be unstoppable. He has all the skills you want in a basketball player and the perfect size.  Right now he is just attacking offensively and not setting his man up and then taking what they give him. Right now he is forcing the issue. Once he understands the defensive tendencies of his opponents, he can toy with them how ever he likes.  Nobody in NBA will be able to guard him.  He needs to study the players defending him and then attack. Deandre started doing this this season. If they play off, pull up jumper, if they close out, ball fake get good first step and attack the rim.  If the off defender is coming over to help based on his defensive assignment, pass the ball to his man. Read and react.  I still like him as a starter because he can play the guard position and Snell can’t. This will be especially important when Dre gets back.

This guy is worse that even I thought he would be. Moves like an old man on the court and can't shoot. At this point we would be lucky to get a late 2nd round pick for him but more than likely we would have give up assets to give rid of this terrible signing.

He plays so uptight. The dude just needs to relax out there. He can do everything except for shooting threes and driving to the basket. Lol. He needs to get it together.

Aren't the Hawks supposed to have one of the top sports medicine teams in the NBA? Why is it that rarely do we have a player come back early or at the short end of the time frame? Always seems to be longer than expected and "we'll update in 2 weeks"

I agree, they either can’t keep our guys healthy or they keep them out too long. Either way it is not benefiting the team.

I strongly disagree that Pierce was super successful at developing Trae and john

I think it is easy to forget that LP has been around the development of stars in this league and they all will tell you he had a big part in that. From LBJ to Steph to Embid. Now Trae. We can’t automatically assume top drafted players will develop into superstars because of their draft position. In fact, all the pundits were betting that Trae would be a bust. LP had no head coaching experience before he started and it was clear that we were in a rebuild not focused on winning but development. He did his part. We just can’t lose sight of that because we want to make the playoffs now.  Had it not been for the John suspension and our season getting cut short, he would have had more opportunities to develop Cam and Dre and possibly more team chemistry.  It is still important to make sure Cam has an opportunity to develop because he is the key to our long term success.

  8. Although I think it was the right decision to move on for LP, my biggest concern is the continued development of the young guys. LP was brought here for that and he was super successful in developing John and Trae and was right there with DeAndre. If Cam and OO get shelved for our run at the eight seed, that may set us back from our bigger goals which is to out together a squad that can compete for a championship.  I hope Nate can balance the two going forward.

So was Hunter, at the facilty the next day.

The reports are there. All season long, the Hawks have been providing injury updates on players roughly every 2 weeks, Hunter was no different. His last update was around Feb. 18th, today is 2 weeks since, right on schedule. Just like the report today said he will be evaluated again on March 19 - 2 weeks, again.

This will be last comment on this. I saw no reports for 4 weeks that stated he was working out anywhere or why he wasn't traveling with the team. I wanted to know the answer to that.  The latest reports after I had my questions, provide some clarity on that. Thanks for posting the articles here.

Point being... Trae is in rare air.    Hope  he's more Jerry West than Mike Adams.

We got a special one. Good coaching and management will take advantage of his abilities.

I had a left knee scope for a torn meniscus and doc wanted me putting weight on it next day. Without crutches. Was running 5ks again 2 months later.

Thank you. Someone understands me. I am questioning the medical staff and front office on these injuries because they seem to be purposely slow walking the injuries.  I know Emory has a reputation to protect so they are always going to err on the side of caution, but the player and the coach have the ultimate say on when it is right to get back out there. Pierce mentioned in one of his old pressers that he has no idea when players will be available and he just coaches whoever is out there. That seemed like a weird comment to me because he was clearly frustrated when he said it.

There are at least 8 tough losses that you could say we should have won, even in spite of injury.

Well, we win those games and we are in 1st place in the East.

Someone said it before that Nate is the kind of coach who will steal wins in the regular season. I feel like until now we have been a team that managed to steal losses we had no business losing.

This aint no rah-rah hooplah, fairy tale jive. If we can just handle our business and stop stealing losses, we don't have to be anything special, we will climb the standings. It will take more than a .500 effort to finish the year because of the hole we put ourselves in, but its right there for us to pull off.

Nate said it in the last presser. Its time to string together wins, and stop putting together long losing stretches. So what if you drop 1 game, dont let 1 loss become 3 and 4 in a row.

With that mindset I truly think we have a chance to right the ship.

Yes. It’s all about momentum too. I would rather be the team that is hot going into the playoffs rather than early in the season. If we can survive March and be in the 9th or 10th spot, we will definitely make a late run because the schedule favors us and hopefully we will have a full squad.

Why count the weeks before the surgery though? There is an established timeline from the surgery date, not from when he was originally injured.

I understand that but the guy basically had a knee scope. From what I understand about the surgery, doctors want the patients get back on their feet as soon as possible. Also, the type of surgery he had was specifically to get rid of the pain he was feeling. It stands to reason that if he has less pain than before he went under surgery and doctors want him to get on his knee as soon as possible he should be some where walking around or working out. He has been ghost for awhile now.  Glad we have an update now.

I feel like with their decision to not do the second PRP, things might be going well. My guess is he comes back April 4th after the long road trip.

I agree. I just hope he is able to get back into basketball shape pretty quickly.

  15. 7 minutes ago, JayBirdHawk said:

    What?

No, he had surgery Feb 8th - Monday coming  will be 4 weeks since the surgery. Which will be halfway to the minimum 8 week mark for his return.

True, but he was out about two weeks before that.  Your Kirschner update provided some of what I was looking for though which is that he is actively on his feet working out.

Lol, this makes no sense - all rehabs are different. And you definitely don't want him traveling on a plane.

You guys do realize he has been out for 6 weeks right?  Something is not right.

Bogi and Cam didn't have surgery, Dunn's surgery was since January. Hunter’s was more recent.

Which leads me to believe he is in a cast somewhere laying in bed if he can’t even walk around with the team.

On a long road trip, players going thru rehab without a xhance of playing don't typically travel.

Yeah, but Bogi, Cam, Dunn are all with the team. What gives.
