    Reality Check

IMO to be considered an elite team, a team has to consistently beat other good teams. Over the past 5 years ECF and WCF teams have won on average 58% and 61% of games against opp >.500, respectively. Currently, the Hawks have on average 35 more games against > .500 opponents. Thus the Hawks will need win at least 19 (54%) of these games to be at .500 or 23 (66%) of these games to have a winning percentage comparable to past ECF/WCF teams. Caveats abound as the 2010 Hawks had a 56% winning percentage against >.500 teams but got dismantled in 4 games by the Magic, a 64% win percentage team, in the second round. But the Magic and Cavs both with similar win percentages against top teams got beat by a veteran Boston team with only a 50% win percentage against >.500 teams.

    Reality Check

Hawks have only 4 wins against above .500 teams, out of which only Washington is really a winning team, NO and Heatx2 were only 1 game above .500. Facing contending teams Hawks are 0-4 ( raptors x2, spurs, Cleveland). Only the spurs game was close. Against sub .500 teams Hawks are 8-2. 20% winning percentage against top ranked teams is concerning. The sample size is small and hopefully we can improve. However, we still have a lot to prove. On the bright side we are beating weak teams like we should. I hope we don't wind up like the Lenny Wilkns ,Smitty, Mookie teams of the 90's.
  3. Get Booz.. Move Millsap to SF. This team needs talent in the worst way. Horford Boozer Millsap Korver Teague Antić Scott DMC Thabo Mack Muscula Payne Bazemor Jenkins Schröder Patterson
  4. Ball Don't Lie The Atlanta Hawks are set to take a calculated gamble on Thabo Sefolosha By Kelly Dwyer Yes, this is a player’s market. There are too few impactful free agents readily available, and too many teams with cap space to influence anything but a setting that tilts in the players’ favor.Chris Kaman nearly doubled his salary from last season after sitting for over half the year. Jodie Meeks will now make more than Anthony Davis next season. Gordon Hayward may sign for the max, and LeBron James will play for about a third of what he’s worth next season. Things have gone pear-shaped. In steps Thabo Sefolosha, the man who was only on the court for five seconds in his team’s final (overtime) playoff game of the season, a fella who was chased out of the Oklahoma City Thunderstarting lineup with two games to go in the Western Conference finals despite starting 434 consecutive healthy games for the Thunder following a bench stint (his first appearance in an OKC uniform ) late in 2009. Sefolosha has agreed to a three-year, $12 million deal with the Atlanta Hawks. RealGM’s Shams Charania was the first to report the deal, which seems to straddle the line between innocuous and bewildering. The Hawks have heaps of cap space, that was in place even before the squad decided to dump Lou Williams and a prospect on John Salmons’ barely-guaranteed contract, but this does seem like a slight stretch. A slight one. Nothing that would seem to bite the Hawks in the rear, as time moves along. Thabo turned 30 in May, and he just could not provide the sort of spacing that had done the Thunder so well in the previous two seasons, seasons that saw him hit well over 40 percent from behind the three-point line. Because Sefolosha hasn’t developed as a slasher, his defensive gifts failed to outweigh his mitigating offensive contributions at a time when the Thunder were playing for their playoff lives, which is why he was relegated to an afterthought in those final two games against the eventual champion San Antonio Spurs. Caveats abound, though. The Thunder offense is a simple one, and though its star-heavy approach often cannot be stopped even when the opposition knows what is coming, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook’s heavy usage denies everyone looks. That’s for a good reason, but it isn’t to be discounted. Secondly, it’s important to remember that Thabo was drafted as a proto-Scottie Pippen, an all-around type meant to stir the drink. This was lost in Scott Skiles, Vinny Del Negro, and Scott Brooks’, um, somewhat rudimentary offenses. If Sefolosha can turn into the guy behind the guy, someone to set up the player that’s about to make that extra skip pass, he can turn into a sort of no-stats All-Star even if he only shoots the league average from behind the arc. He’ll have to approach that number, though. The Hawks would be beside themselves if he manages to top 40 percent from behind the arc again, and more than frustrated if Sefolosha dips down to 31 percent from long range – as he did in 2013-14. Thabo sandwiched two great shooting years (nearly 44 and 42 percent from deep) with last season’s poor performance and a 30 percent run in his first two full years with the team between 2009 and 2011, so it’s a coin flip as to how he’ll turn out with Atlanta, a team that prides itself on spacing and encouraging three-point shooting. At less than the league’s average salary, on a tradeable contract, Thabo should work out. Even if this dive in production is real and he is unable to find the all-around touch that made him a lottery pick back in 2006, Thabo Sefolosha making $4 million a year at the end of the bench isn’t exactly a millstone. And the upside is too real to ignore – the guy has the potential to be more than a limited three-point shooter and defender. If he and the Hawks remember that, it will come in handy once the plays break down. Sometimes a change of scenery is all one needs. Is this the right change for Thabo Sefolosha? At the very least, the compensation suits him.
  5. Got It ! Thanks for your help! Awesome Win!
  6. Long story short missed game 1 (sisters wedding ) any websites where I can watch game 1 in its entirety ? Much obliged
  7. LD is a horrible coach!! 1) why not put Teague on Nelson, when Nelson was going off? Remember Hinrick getting lit up in the 3rd quarter. 2)why would you not put Collins back in when the lead was 8 in the 4th? Soon as Al started covering Dwight our lead was lost. 3)Smoove begged LD for 3 min to put Collins back in the game. The Orlando announcers were commenting on Josh pleading to the bench. In fact when Josh was yelling at the coaches Bob Bender replied, "I told Drew" still Drew waited another 1-2 minutes by that time our 8 point lead was 2. We won this game inspite of Drew. Few other LD issues: The fact that it took him 75 games to settle on a lineup is sad. One day he starts Teague then 2days later Teague gets a DNP. You know your coach sucks when the players say:we don't know what are roles are or who should get the ball in the final minutes. He failed to use JC2, who clearly is talented. Our offense went from top 3 to bottom 1/3 in 1year with the same players! Wake up that is the coach's fault Why would you not run plays to feed Josh in the post. Instead your plays find Josh 16 feet from the basket 15 times a game. You think but Joe and Jamal are having off years? It's LD poor plays that fail to get his stars open looks. Why would you not enforce drives to the hoop? You are last in the league in free throw attempts. This is just a tip of the iceberg. Hawks front office knows they made a big mistake. This is LD s last year.

    26 T.O.

Stopping the ball on transition will not negate 26 freaking turnovers!! Good luck winning NBA games. I suspect turnovers are going to be hawks downfall this season.
  9. You seem very anti BK, exodus. What moves whould you recommend now? It is easy to assign blame after the fact. Can you deny that this team has a bright future? A team that BK built. My point is you will not get a good GM who is willing to be handcuffed and that is precisely why letting BK go at this time did not make sense. Granted if BK got his way (fired Woodson) and this team did not live up to expectations with his moves than that makes sense, but how do you let him go now?
  10. Quote: The owners won't allow the team to be gutted for another rebuilding effort. So the new GM, with limited autonomy, will need to work the fringes of the roster. And significantly improve the talent drafted when we have draft picks again (in '10). But I also think the GM needs to be media-friendly and help sell season tickets, now that the city has had a chance to experience playoff basketball. The irony is that BK did a good job of selecting draft picks later in the draft... at least based on Smith and Diaw. And hopefully, we will be selecting after pick 16 for many years to come. I do not hink it is feasabile to hire a GM and have his hands tied. i.e can not fire the coach, can not trade core players, no draft picks, and after resigning smith and chills no cap room. It does not bode well my friend.
  11. Knight is responsible for all the players here. Because of him we went from a team no one cared about, even when we were winning (remember the empty omni in the 90's), to one of the most exciting, atheletic, fun to watch, and most importantly promisng teams in the NBA. Everyone says we need to run more and we are built to run. We hardly ran last year under Woodson. Imagine this team under D'antoni. I think we could of had D'antoni if ASG gave Knight freedom to make moves. Look you can knock Knight for passing up on guys in the draft but remember hindsight is always 20/20. Every team makes draft mistakes because no one has a crystal ball. The bottom line is the team, talent and and financial flexiablity improved with Billy at the helm. The problem now is after 6 years of rebuilding a new GM is going to come in and break-up the core, and we will go in for another few years of rebuilding. At the best you hope the new GM builds on what we have now, but I ask you is that not what Billy Knight was doing? You can only hope the new GM would continue to carry out Billy's vision. That is going to be a big leap. Bottomline, the ASG should not have accepted Billy's resignation and instead given Billy the authorty to see his vision through. I think letting Billly go at this time point has set this franchise back. You seem to forget the reasoning at the time for some of the moves that unfortunaltly did not pan out: Chris Paul vs MW: Marvin consensus top 2 pick Sheldn vs Roy: Big hole at PF spot we only had Zaza. Billy would have gotten crucifed if we had gotten another 6'9 wing player. Plus after the Marvin draft, Billy got railed for going after potential and best talent instead of drafting for postion of need. Signing Speedy Claxton: We needed a vet point gaurd in the worst way. And not making a move for a free agent that summer with the cap space we had would make this franchsie look as if we were not interested in winning and trying to run the team on the cheap. Furthermore Speedy was not even the first choice, remember Sam Cassel turned down our max offer. Plus speedy was somming off a career year.
  12. MY LEAGUE Pass broadband account does not seem to be working tonight does anyone have a link to the game or that TV website that broadcasts nba games?? Thanks
  13. Why did Horford play only 18 min?? Woody pulled him in the 3rd with 4 fouls and never put him back in. This is when brandon wright started getting every rebound and ellis and davis made a b line to the basket. And why did bibby sit for 12 mins ( the last three minutes for the 3rd and majority of the fourth) Is it because of the injury or is Woodson just a moran.
  14. Its hard to win when the other team is getting layups. We gave up 98.4 ppg due to our lack of interior defense. If Noah is truly a 7ftr who can rebound, he will be a major upgrade over what we have. I would trade down or whatever and pick up Noah. Trade the 11 pick for Jarret Jack. Boom instant D and a vet PG. What ya think?
  15. I have not seen much of him. I know he can score but can he alter opp shots in the lane. Thats what we need rather than a scorer; having an inside out game with Gasol and Joe would be awesome but I dont know if would help us win more games. Also did you guys read Sekou's blog. He thinks its crazy to trade the pick for a proven vet. I think Sekou is dead wrong. We need NBA experince not some 19 year old with a deer in the head lights look. We already are the youngest team in the NBA. Its not in our interest to draft some future star and wait and hope he develops.
  16. Mutumbo had no offense Hibbert does. It is stupid draft a freaking PG at 3 when you have 4 7ftrs in the draft.
  17. asdogg

    Roy Hibbert

Thank God we have both picks!! What we need is interior defense with size. I will jump out a window if we pick a 6-9 tweener ala Wright.Hibbert is our answer: 7-2 278 lbs. How do you go wrong. He can finish around the basket and just his size will plug up the lane and alter shots. He freakin outplayed ODEN. Its a no brainer. Trade up to get Connley we are set baby! [censored] awesome.
  18. I like JJ alot. However, do you think Diaw, JT, another first round pick and a max contract a good trade?
  19. I know it has been discussed before, maybe some of you could help me understand. I used to believe in letting our GM take his time and implement his plan. But day by day I am wondering what exactly is his plan? How does he plan to make us successful and by when? He traded away so much talent only for cap space that is not being used. It really hit home tonight when JT lit it up in Game 1 of the Finals. What do we have to show for that trade? Would it have been better to keep JT that could have filled our PG void? Maybe the owenership wants Billy to save money and that forces his hand in these trades. Why do we have to bench and then trade Tony Delk? So that with playing time hopefully Stoudamire will develop into a player like Delk? It makes no sense. I think the best philosphy is to have a solid mix of Vets and newbies so that you are good now and good for the future. Again I would like to hear some solid answers to this questions . Thanks
  20. Dude I was agreeing with your ideas untill this. Furthermore, the HaWKS had the best defense in the league in the last of Jordan's three peats. I still remember the bulls rolling on them every night. So based on your above statement the current Hawks are as good as the Jordan's bulls exept their defense! You have to be kidding
  21. I would really like to have Knight on our team. He is a great point gaurd. Only his size is a problem, but when you have 10 SF that are 6'8 and above I dont think his size would be an obstacle. Even in the long run if his size is a problem I think he would still be a solid stop gap measure. We shoould have gotten Deron in the Draft. Stupid BK.
  22. BK dropped the ball. I am so sick and tired of waiting for this franchise to get its act together. 13 freakin wins you have to be kidding. We have been a joke since '87. Every year its been wait till next year, now its maybe this guy will able to be a PG.If BK was smart he should of drafted Deron, Signed JJ as our SG. Had JC be our SF with JS breathing down his neck for the starting job. I bet we would have been in the playoffs with that line up, and been able to attract grade A Free agents next year. Now look at us just more [censored] question marks. We are in no postion for these stupid experments.BK go out and get a real [censored] PG. Fill our god damn holes with solid players. Offer Chandler the MAX. P.S. You are on crack to think Ben Wallace will EVER PLAY for a team with 13 wins. By the time MW comes around ,and thats if he comes around, Ben would be like 37.
