From what I shared in the insiders only pm thread:

I'm hearing that we are trying to get the Wizards to move up to 1, we go down to 2 get a future first from them and we take Risacher and they are trying to get another top 5 pick to take Clingan.

    0OXlMkKXkcg&pid=ImgRaw&r=0

    So Houston, SA, and Detroit............hmmm

I have no idea at all.  Maybe we traded Murray to one of these teams.

Look at it like this.  Again, this is not a knock on Trae.  You look at Dallas.  Luka had a higher "usage" percentage than Trae Young this season.  Kyrie had just a slightly lower "usage" than Trae.  The team assists is near the same.  The difference is defense.  Where Dallas was middle of the pack the Hawks of course are near the league bottom.  The other team I want to compare is Indiana. Not much better than Atlanta defensively but they are the top team in the league in assists.

That means the Hawks have two choices:  Improve the defense or improve the team assists by removing Trae and Murray from their dominate roles on offense.  Sarr is the answer for the defensive route.  The second route is where its gets complicated.  Since the Hawks are not gonna surround Trae with a Brandon Ingram for instance on offense, the offense itself has to change.  Trae has to have the ball in his hands.  Thats HIS game.  This is the reality of what the Hawks have on their plate and they know it which is why they are considering moving off of Trae.  Its cheaper to build a team with a bunch of assist guys over bringing Ingram, Siakam, etc. or somebody of that caliber into the fold. Ingram and Siakam can demand the ball from Trae but they bring price tags.  The Sarr thing is very interesting.  Its no telling which way they are gonna go.   It wouldn't shock me if they trade down into around 10 in the draft to save salary and get picks and or role players.

I understand, but I don't really believe they will trade down. I think no team that has ever had the #1 pick has dropped down to the teens in a trade. Moreover, this is the first #1 pick in the history of the Atlanta Hawks in 50 years and will be the first one to play for the Hawks since Milwaukee days, so I don't think they will trade down.

From what I'm hearing, some might want to familiarize themselves with Matas Buzelis.  His name is being mentioned by some people in the know I trust.  I don't think it would be over Sarr, but if they were to move down a spot, Buzelis may be ahead of Risacher on their board.

I can see the Hawks doing that, ugh Yea I can see that too clearly now (unless the Wiz give us '25 1st for this and not Kuzma)

  4. It is kind of surprising that NO will do that, but they need a big and guard as well.  Maybe Garland goes there or SA?  But that means what are we going to do about Murray then?  I can see why that most folks are saying that Trae/Murray is not going anywhere this offseason.

Could we get back to discussing the Hawks? The Falcons wasted their #8 pick on a bum that will be almost 30 when he finally gets a chance to play. There's a forum to discuss how terrible of a draft pick it was.

It is better than people complaining about everything and besides I dont think the Falcons wasted that pick but anywho.

I think Atlanta should Boston Celtics this one. Sarr is this draft Fultz's. Trade it to a team like Detroit for 5 and get future 1st or someone who can help next year like Ausar.

    Supers,

This is like the five time you change your mind about this pick.  But it's hard when you don't have a true player that deserve to go number one.  I probably change my mind about 20 times before next week 🙂

Yeah, squashed but it will still come up, regardless.  Besides as long we have this issue of DJM and Trae, it will never die out.  Plus, there is no guarantee that BI will be coming here either.  So, we might be seeing the full squad back together in October.

No way the Spurs are offering 5 picks for Trae.  And not just any bullshit picks, but a #4, an #8, and YOUR OWN picks which you have some control about how good (or bad) they are.  Of course that is not being offered.  But if it was there is NO WAY you don't take it.

If you're aiming to acquire an All-Star caliber point guard, then a top four to five draft pick would be comparable in value, unless additional players are included, which might lower the pick's value. It seems this sentiment is widely shared. While anything could happen, this possibility is certainly being considered.

Did anyone else see the B/R article today that talked about deals Atlanta could do for #1?  One of them was actually Mikal Bridges and DFS, Suns '27 FRP and '28 Grizzlies SRP for Capela and #1.  I am intrigued by Sarr, but if that offer ever became a reality, that's one we'd have to do.  Bridges is EXACTLY what this teams needs next to Trae.  I know it's B/R BS, but it was actually a deal that seemed fair for Atlanta for once.

Umm, I dont think the Nets will do something like that, they got burned too many times right now and they still have Claxton on the team unless he is going to be FA.  The smart pick is to just draft the player.

So I'll never abandon the Squawk, just need to take a break.  The idea of moving on from Trae is HEAVY as is the thought of trading the #1.  I'm still lurking a little, but I did want to weigh in (also, someone needs to create a poll).

    • First of all, I want no part of any deal that sends Trae to the Spurs. I don't want to trade him, but if a deal must be made it can't be with San Antonio so they can build a dynasty.  Absolutely not.
    • Trading Trae for picks is bad for Atlanta sports just trade him for another star if we just have to.
    • Trading the #1 pick is almost just as bad in terms of optics
    • I don't want Giannis.  We are an injury away from mortgaging everything for nothing.  There's no guarantee of anything even without injuries.  In a couple of years it there is a good chance of us having no Sarr, no Trae, no JJ, no Giannis, no titles, and NONE of our picks.

Move DJ for better fit/equal value, get some defenders/shooters, and build a competitive team WITH Sarr.  We can make the playoffs and give San Antonio some middling 1sts.   2026 is a pick swap, we could both end up in the lottery and they decline it.  We made that bed, we need to lay in it.

We all dont want Trae to be traded but here is the deal, if he does not like where the team is going, he will be leaving on his own and we wont get anything out of it, nothing at all.  Plus we will still have to pay for those picks as well.  It is not easy but I think I am glad that we did get the first pick, addressing now is good versus doing it later.

    I’ll just put this here:

That is nice but is it going to help this team in the next couple of years? We need defense in the worst of ways and keeping them, both is crazy, and the numbers has showed it as well.

I'm with you 100% man. Giannis is not realistic for us and it's crazy people are campaigning to trade Trae and not DJM.

I don't doubt we've had internal conversations about Giannis, but this feels like KAT 2.0 already.

Draft Sarr and use DJM to go get a wing.

I am with you on that but one question tho

What would happen if Trae does not like that package?

  13. 11 minutes ago, macdaddy said:

I can't wait to hear what Trae actually wants to do.  We know win now but even the Spurs with Wemby may not be that close.   of course being close to home and playing for Pop may have a draw.  Ultimately i think or hope that he decides Atlanta has a good future.

The grass isn't always greener on the other side. Moreover, it will be some time before the Western Conference isn't as fiercely competitive. Additionally, they need to recruit defenders to support Wemby/Trae, especially since Pop isn't playing either.

You problem is you think all drafts and front offices are equal.

Indeed, all front offices are completely different. For instance, the front offices of Boston, Denver, and OKC (yuck) are leagues ahead of the rest. Do you know why? It's because they take chances and risks, regardless of their fans' opinions, since at the end of the day, their goal is to become champions.

  15. Even though securing the first pick is a blessing, it certainly sparks a lot of debate about the team's direction. From tanking to going all-in, it's a compelling topic. The next moves by the front office will shape the future of Hawks Basketball for the next 5 to 10 years, igniting heated and passionate discussions.

Every option, including the second one, is viable. You could go all in to win the championship but at the cost of your future, play it safe but risk losing your star player, or take a gamble and hope for the best. Each path has its pros and cons, and there's no straightforward choice.

This conversation was inevitable, but with the acquisition of the pick, it's become immediate. If the Collective Bargaining Agreement weren't so restrictive and if Ressler were willing to pay the luxury tax, Option 1 might be feasible. However, I believe Option 3 is the best for the long-term health of the team. Like Boston, Denver, and Miami, we should aim for long-term success and not shy away from making deals that improve the team.

The source cleared me to reveal the name of the superstar.

    It is Giannis.

I am not saying it is going to happen but it is being discussed and it depends on if Giannis wants to come to Atlanta. This is from my source and from @NBASupes source.

It also leaves the option to trade for BI and the team would look roughly something like:

    Trae

    Bogi/Kobe

    Ingram/Hunter

    Giannis

    OO

The longer  version of what I've heard can come down to three options for our roster:

The above option, the "Push All The Chips In" is what I call it. We will be a  good team, no question, but with a scary future with no firsts for a long time.

    2nd Option:

We trade Murray and AJ  to NO for BI and the Lakers 2025 unprotected first

We keep Trae. We do NOT trade for Giannis. We use the #1 pick on Sarr.

    Team would be:

    Trae

    Bogi/Kobe

    Ingram/Hunter

    Sarr/either Capela or OO

    3rd option:

We blow it all up. SAS have offered 4, 8 and all our picks back for Trae. We move him. We keep the #1 pick. We move Murray not to the Pelicans but to the Pistons or another team I've been told not to mention that has picks/young guys.

    Roster would be:

(this is my postulating at possible draft results)

    Reed Sheppard

    Bogi/Kobe

    Hunter/#8 pick in this draft

    Sarr/OO

We have all our picks back as well as picks and young guys from moving Murray to either the Pistons or mystery team.

Which option do you guys and gal prefer? I think the 3rd option is the best one but the 2nd option is more safe. The first option MIGHT win us a title...but then we'll be in purgatory for years with no draft picks.

If someone can make a poll with these three options, please do so, you have my blessing. These are the three big scenarios the Hawks FO is discussing now and in the upcoming time to the draft.

Option #1 offers the best chance at the Championship, assuming everyone remains healthy. However, it limits trades and exceptions due to lack of control over draft picks for an extended period and definitely places you in the second apron. This approach has been tried before without success, and there's no assurance Tony will pay the tax.

Option #2 is a hybrid of options one and three. As @Sothron mentioned, it's a safer choice, but it's uncertain if Trae would be content with this, knowing he might not accept it, and additional pieces are still needed.

Option #3 is the rebuild model. However, for every successful Oklahoma City, there's a struggling Detroit, and for every Houston, there's a Washington. Choosing this path requires patience and a commitment to doing things correctly.

I wouldn't want to be in Mr. Fields' position, as he must make a decision that could alter the franchise's direction forever. Personally, I favor Option #1, but it sacrifices the long-term plan for a win-now approach, which often fails. Option #2 seems overly cautious and might upset Trae, leading to his departure as a free agent. Therefore, my choice would be Option #3; while it may be challenging in the short term, it offers draft capital and quality players essential for building the team properly. Additionally, with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and the potential for expansion on the horizon, we will have the opportunity to sculpt this roster and construct a team for both the present and the future.

I stopped on page 296 so Ive got some more pages to go....

But IF its Giannis....you just do that.

What do we hope JJ becomes? How far off of that is Giannis, who already is that.

What do we hope Sarr becomes? Same thing.

The extra firsts suck, but to me, its kind of a no brainer. Giannis is what we hope these players/assets become. Tell the Bucks thank you and go to the next step lol.

I am sorry, I just cannot get behind this deal.  We have seen what happened to Brooklyn and Phoenix when they put all of their eggs in the basket.  Think about it, the reason why the C's is in the top of the league is because the draft capital they got from Brooklyn and same with Houston now.

It is fun to pair them together but what is the cost, you are one Trae or Giannis injury from being in the lottery but with no control of those picks.  I rather trade Trae, feel out any good offers for Murray and the rest of the Hawks.  There is nothing wrong with going with OKC route.

I TOLD YOU!! I TOLD YOU!! What I say? Didn’t I say it Trae could ask the FO to trade the pick to get a star or to trade him if they don’t?!
Didn’t I saw that?! Yeah I said that.
I’ll take the doubters apologies off the air thank you very much.

I speculated KD, but we’ll see.

    So, I’ll ask this again:

    would you rather have

    Trae + KD

    or

    Murray + Sarr

    ?

and why do we want KD for?  He is the last person in the NBA that I want on this team, and he wants to go to the Heat

Gents, let’s think a bit, Bucks failed with Lillard, Middleton, Lopez, Portis, Beasley, Beverley…. So We match Lillard with Young and what is the plan to go over that level of talent with our roster? This plan has no wings

Then we will be back to square one.......again

Keeping the pick and getting Sarr would make that trade worth it, in my opinion. That is still Giannis.

Do you really think that Bucks is going to do that deal without any picks?  Yeah, they will not!
