For other guys at the combine results, Reed Sheppard had the highest vertical max at 42 inches. He's the 6'3" in shoes white kid that is simply amazing. If they blew up this roster and we could draft Sarr, Reed Sheppard and the best wing or another big at 8 I think that team could be exciting as living hell to watch.

This team has many options, many options.  It is up to Trae to see what he wants to do.  Frankly for me, I keep the pick and drafted Sarr.

I haven't really weighed in on the trade talk, but If we're talking moving one of our PGs

Just send DJ back to San Antonio, send those picks + whatever it takes to a rebuilding team that has a difference-maker talent we want, send the difference maker to us.

    win/win/win

Yeah, it is not going to be simple as that but good try tho.

I'm certainly paranoid but DJ also hasn't commented on the winning the lottery.

This is why the org needs to get good messaging out regarding what we are doing.  This being ok with any direction is going to leave guys questioning if they want to be here at all.   Probably already are.

Not only are the Hawks not gonna be questioned for taking Sarr, like Doncic, dude played PRO ball already.  Thats THE reason I wanted the Hawks to keep Doncic.  With the wide open NBA rule changes that allow offenses to florish, European players have a easy transition to the NBA game.  Sarr is a player, a baller.  Teams HOPE the Hawks would be ignorant enough to not draft him.

It will be a reverse MPJ situation 😞

But why are you ignoring the other potential avenues of improvement? We can trade existing players to build around Trae and JJ.  We can sign the MLE and use the TPE.  All of your posts are questioning whether the draft picks (this years and in the coming years) can put us over the top.  That's not the right way to frame this scenario.

The Hawks are in a great position right now.  They have 2 pgs and a highly talented PF that looks like he's ready to break out.  They also have the number 1 pick.  But the pick isn't and never was going to be a player that puts them over the top. What will put them over the top is upgrading the C position and the wing position.

That means trading DJM or Trae along with Clint, OO, Hunter, AJ, etc... if necessary to build the roster around the remaining PG and JJ.  I think it's 100% clear that Trae is the better option than DJM so to me, you trade DJM plus others to upgrade either the wing or the C position.  Since the draft is heavy on the C position, it makes the most sense to draft a C and then trade for a wing.

They already had the Ingram trade on the table.  I'd say you still do that trade and then draft Sarr and make whatever other deals you need to make to fill out the roster around Trae / Ingram / JJ / OO with Sarr as the backup until he's ready.

I must respectfully disagree with this viewpoint.

The Hawks are not in an ideal position at the moment, even if we secure the first pick. There are numerous issues that need addressing, and dealing with NBA GMs can be akin to negotiating with a used car salesman who attempts to sell you a car for twice its worth.

Trust me, I wish we could achieve what you're suggesting, but currently, I have little confidence in their ability to make the right decisions.

  6. I am with you on that @NBASupes

We all have to remember that there is no guarantee that he wants to stay here (That is the reason why they added the player option in his contact), if there is another location or team that is closer to championship than the Hawks, and they only need a starting point guard to be complete.  Do you think he will stay here and stay on a middling team or go to the team that is going to give him what he wants the most....NBA Championship (I have three in mind).

This is the absolute wrong way to even think about this.  The draft pick was never going to be a player that put this current team over the top.  I'm not sure why you are even asking that questions.  Or why your friend did.  It's nonsensical.

Again, unless you are drafting generational players, you aren't jumping from mid to contender with draft picks.  That's not even remotely reasonable or realistic.  Secondly, there's an awful lot of supposition in that question.  You don't know we are limited by the 2nd apron.  You don't know the owner won't pay the luxury tax (and if he won't, how are we limited by the 2nd apron exactly?) You are literally citing opinion as the factual basis for setting up a question.  Hugely biased.

So you are suggesting we trade Trae now because we are afraid of a decision he may or may not make IN TWO YEARS??

This whole argument is 100% absurd.  There is no rational thought that leads from getting the number 1 pick in the draft to "blow it up and start over."  This is just crazy talk.

I understand and feel the same, but those are indeed the questions being asked.

Even with the first pick, will that elevate the Hawks to a top 6 position, avoiding play-in games? Moreover, post-draft, the team won't control any of their picks for three years, and one wouldn't want a repeat of Brooklyn's scenario, where they gave up the third pick for a player no longer on the team. Additionally, it's risky to rely on the Kings making the Playoffs in the Western Conference, considering the 11th seed was .500 and received the 3rd overall pick, and with Memphis returning to full strength.

Surpassing the second apron is typically for teams expected to reach the second round or conference finals, not for those exiting in the play-in or first round. Furthermore, I lack confidence in Ressler's commitment to this strategy.

I'm not advocating for trading Trae, but if he desires a move, it's crucial the team gains something in return. It's important to remember the team gained nothing when Horford or Millsap departed.

You kept Murray and Trade Trae.  Trae is not gonna want to give up the spotlight.  Murray, Ingram, Sarr, Johnson.  Thats winning the East right there.  TEAM comes first.

Actually, I would rather trade both and start anew.

I have to agree with Supers on this, due to two questions my friend from the Pacific Northwest asked me yesterday, which really resonated with me.

    1. Even with the first pick, will the Hawks be a play-in team or a deep playoff run team next year, even with all of the changes?

    2. If you are Trae or Murray and you're aware that the next three drafts are beyond our control, hoping that any pick we receive from other teams will succeed (considering Memphis and Houston are improving, and there's no certainty that the Kings will maintain a playoff spot in the Western Conference), and you're limited by the second apron, so you can't acquire anyone except through trades, and your owner won't pay the luxury tax for a better team. If you aim to win, would you be willing to stay on a mediocre team or move elsewhere to potentially get closer?

The last scenario you want is for Trae to decline his player option in two years, become a free agent, and for us to end up with nothing.

**Dial F for Brooklyn Nets right now, they are just keep giving gifts that keep on giving, the haul they gave C's and now Harden trade.**

  9. @NBASupes You brought out the Tank Avatar, you must be hearing some really bad

The silence from Trae regarding this stroke of luck is telling. Ultimately, Trae's Player Option is two years away, and although we were fortunate with this pick, it will take time for that pick to develop. I doubt Trae has the patience to wait while aiming to win. Currently, it's a dire situation.

Here's the situation: the Hawks are caught between a rock and a hard place. They have a team that's good enough to reach the Play-in but not strong enough to advance to the playoffs, and when they do make it, they're quickly overpowered. With limited cap space and a starting backcourt earning $60 million, they still need to manage Johnson's contract and other disappointments. Moreover, Trae's player option is due in two years. If the team remains stagnant, it's uncertain if he will stay, especially if he has opportunities to join a team that aligns more closely with his ambitions.

As I've mentioned before, the upcoming decision and draft pick will be pivotal in the Atlanta Hawks' history. Just as OKC has demonstrated, it's possible to rebuild while still retaining valuable draft picks and win at a high level.

Ultimately, the blame does not lie with Trae, DJM, or any team member. The ownership must bear responsibility for these issues. In my view, while a reset may damage numerous relationships and alienate fans, it's imperative to avoid losing Trae for nothing. That outcome would be more detrimental than the departures of Horford and Millsap without any trade compensation.

What the Hawks have in the #1 pick is more 'equity' to make changes.

Get the #1 pick...let's Tank???? :blanky:

    I can't man.   ..I just can't. Sigh!

Y'all are making my head hurt.

    Get the #10 pick....retool

    Get the #1 pick....tank.

    Make it make sense. :shout:

If it were for the 10th pick, there would be no problems. However, securing that #1 pick throws all your plans out the window. This was evident today when Fields spoke about it; nobody anticipated they would get that pick—absolutely no one. You could have been a millionaire by now if you had bet on the Hawks to get the #1 pick in Vegas.

Sarr has no offensive game. I'm not taking him #1.

It's often said that Giannis had similar stats (9.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.0 blocks per game with Filathlitikos), and we all know his remarkable trajectory since then. However, I would prefer they address the Trae/Murray situation before committing to a single player.

Lmao, ya'll really think everything is teachable. If its teachable, draft Clingan who's good at every thing we need now and develop him. This teachable bullshit is only used for players you like

    Supers,

While watching Clingan's performances on YouTube during the tournament, it seems he's the kind of player who positions himself in the post or the lane. Currently, that's not what we need. In today's NBA, big men like Wemby, KAT, KP, and even Al can draw him out of the post and dominate with their shooting or self-creation skills. Don't misunderstand; I appreciate Clingan's game, but we require a mobile 4/5 who can defend the perimeter, recover quickly, and also protect the lane and post effectively.

    First serious update post lottery:

Team's draft board before the lottery drawing was the two French kids and Clingan in that order. Obviously no one in the FO seriously thought we would win the lottery with such poor odds.

When Landry in his post drawing media spot said he wasn't even thinking about a trade, just focusing on homework on the pick, that was not GM talk. It was real. Multiple teams in the NBA have called or reached out just to offer congrats to our FO because of the historic nature of the Hawks *finally* winning the lottery.

The workouts and team interviews are going to play a huge role in who they finally select at #1. I was told that unless another team blows them away the Hawks are absolutely keeping the pick. Both Resslers feel this is "manna from Heaven" to fix the roster and keep Trae's interest in staying here.

All the top prospects are so close together I was told one really strong interview or work out could be the deciding factor on who they select. The "Hawks DNA" will be used extensively to describe what the team is looking for in the draft. This source suspects both UCONN players are going to really impress the FO but the raw potential of both French kids is hard to overlook.

The FO is praying/hoping that the other Ressler doesn't stick his nose into the pick. The first ever #1 pick that will actually play with the Hawks (screw you David Thompson btw) is a huge deal. The fear is whoever Tony wants will be the de facto pick regardless of what the FO decides.

This does affect potential trade scenarios. If for instance Zach is the #1 pick the team will be less likely to trade for BI. If we take Sarr or Clingan then the need for a center will be less likely. Source feels as we get closer to the draft and the natural mania/hysteria over potential picks might get some serious trade talks brewing from sources we didn't expect before. And no, this source would not provide team names even when prompted.

To me, this decision and Trae/Murray situation will be the most important decisions in Atlanta Hawks history because this can affect this team for years to come and many heads will roll including Ressler as well.  Him and his son does not need to be involved in this at all.

I'll take that. That was getting us and Houston 10-12 WAR. That's us being in the top 3-4 every year and being better than the Knicks and Pacers. Give me that.  He's better than Capela to me but if that's what he is, I'll take it.

The only strategy that team seems to employ is to draw him out of the lane or shoot over him. Similar to KP and Horford in Boston, they create a gap in the middle as wide open as a 24/7 shop, putting us in a precarious position.

If we trade for BI/Daniels/picks. We need Clingan.

    Trae

    Bogi

    BI

    JJ

    Clingan

Gives us a legit 50 win+ team yearly.

    Supers,

I dont agreed with that, I been looking at Clingan stuff and he looks like another Capella plus he does not have a jump shot or range to deal with the mobile 4 and 5 in the league.

PG and Bridges were the two that came to mind for me, too.   (Obviously Herb if available)

    Trae | PG | Starr | JJ | OO

If we went this route, we would use Murray to either upgrade at Center or (more likely) grab depth and picks.

I thought that PG was a FA or something like that and nope for PG.

I think we might need to look at the BI situation or that is off the table now?

    Sum of those numbers:  43

    round up 10.75 . . . .

He should be very frustrated, he's having as good a season as he's had in the NBA” - JJ Redick believes Trae Young should be frustrated with the Atlanta Hawks' inability to

It's somewhat surprising that Trae is so quiet at the moment... very quiet indeed.

Additionally, it's beneficial for the Squawk, as this place will likely see increased traffic due to the #1 pick and the current situation with Trae/DJ.
