I've commented before that I think Trae needs an attitude adjustment. I will always call it like I see it. he's still a superstar player but yes, he has some personality traits that need adjusting. Turning down All Star selections is the literal definition of hubris IMO.
Haha, we have one thread where we are saying the All Star game is meaningless garbage and no fan of basketball would actually watch more than 3 possessions of it, and another trashing Trae for opting out of being an injury replacement because "the fans really want to see him there".
Which is it?
The All Star game is some important hallmark that should be reveled, or its a worthless exhibition game?
The only one affected by Trae not going to the All Star game is Trae...not you, not me, and definitely not the Luka stan @shakes

What'd he say?
I watched 3 possessions and had to shut off the whole TV. Why play the game at all if you're gonna play like that?
Those 3 possessions were all I could watch of the whole weekend, honestly. It's over-commercialized beyond what anyone probably intended when it began. Not watchable.

We also need a coach that can coach him up and Trae needs to allow himself to be coached. The best of the best allow themselves to be coached.
I actually think Trae IS allowing himself to be coached, he's just getting terrible advice.
Do you notice how few shots he has been taking lately? He constantly passes up shots to defer to the bricklayers that surround him.
The offense goes to ISO regardless of who is on the floor in the final minutes of the game. This isn't a Trae thing.
Trae is committing on defense more than I've ever seen him.
We need a coach who knows 21st century basketball and some Vet leadership in the locker room like solo and Gallo to get us through the tough times. Even the trades at the deadline made our team younger.

Based off of what?
He got his Hall of Fame talent to play with him, yet, the Mavs are 0 - 2 when Doncic and Irving play with each other.
Luka isn't a good man or team defender. So if you match him up with a group of guys that can't defend, you'll get similar results.
They traded away DFS and are paying the price for it.

Just watch the games and pay close attention to our schemes and the opponents' gameplan. Teams are constantly trying to get Trae in screens, PnRs, pin-downs, cutting off of him, and posting him up. Atlanta's defense is constantly working to get him out of harm's way consistency which breaks our defensive integrity and makes it impossible to play a sound defensive scheme. You can watch a lot of NBA ball and yes, there are some insanely bad defenders out there like Jalen Green but no one is picked on in as many ways as Trae and no team works as hard to protect their weakest link as the Hawks.
It's obvious to those who understand schemes and defensive integrity. For example, Denver is not great defensive team personnel wise but they always maintain their defensive integrity, especially Jokic. Now they can get abused on PnRs and you can scheme the f*** out of them but that's time-consuming and for an 82-game season, teams aren't going to do that. Atlanta is the worst team in the NBA at defensive integrity, even Charlotte maintains their integrity better and they have hardly any defenders on the roster. You don't have to be a great defense talent-wise to maintain integrity but with Trae, I don't believe it's possible. We added Murray who's a top-end two-way PG and we still can't maintain it and that was something his Spurs were good at last year even if they weren't good.
Trae is a problem because he's bad at so much on defense. The physical shit is a given but the feel for the game on D is bad, he falls asleep on defense more than Sergino Dest at Barcelona and I love Dest for the USMNT. He doesn't play off the ball well at all. Teams are consistently trying to get him screen/backdoor action. It's like, whenever they see Trae in the game, teams have gotten more crafty at how to attack him. It's no longer trying to iso against him. Teams have smarten up and I see a lot of secondary assists due to teams attacking Trae. Sometimes when he's out of the game and he doesn't have it going on offense, I hope he doesn't come back in.
He's just a tough player to deal with. As I said, Trae is a coach's nightmare. But an owner's dream as well as stans who just love his style and creativity. They can also look past the rest or blame others.
I get it, Trae isn't a good defender. What I'm missing is how is Trae a worse defender than Bogi? How is he a worse defender than Seth Curry (He made Huerter look like Kobe in game 7)? How is he worse than Damian Lillard??
There's no way you can justify calling Trae the worst defender on our team, let alone the worst defender of all time.

I really liked what I saw from ay Bey Bey tonight. If we can start transitioning Bogi's minutes to Bey as @sturt suggested, I think we will see some real improvement in our lineups. Trae + Bogi lineups have been awful for us this season. Bey gives us a willing shooter who can also defend..so I feel like he can pad out the minutes and compliment Trae better.

He sucks just as bad on D now as he always has. He's just protected better because we got one of the best two-way PGs next to him instead of defensive sieves like Huerter and Bogi.
I know you're a stats guy...show me the stat that demonstrates that Trae is the worst defender in the league. Any stat will do.
In fact, I'd be shocked if you could find one showing that Trae is the worst defender on the Hawks.

Yeah our defesne sucks with or without Trae.. But it definitely isnt better with him...
This is demonstrably false this season. See my previous post. Not saying its BECAUSE of Trae, but he has improved a ton on defense this year...the stats match the eye test.

We can't play ZERO defense and expect to win. We don't even guard shooters.
I really think this is the scheme at this point. Nate likes to pack the paint and leave shooters open like its 1995.

It's massively better without him. This year, we just aren't a good team when key players miss games, regardless of who it is. We get smoked too much this year when key players are out.
Nice try using all time stats
THIS SEASON:
115.4 DRating when Trae is on117.8 DRating when Trae is off

Trae is extremely bad and puts everyone out of position. Charlotte is one of those all 5 can shoot teams. Can't defend for shit unless Williams is in the game but when you had a massive flaw like Trae, it gets exposed against these five-out teams who can shoot and dribble drive like Charlotte. I don't even think we beat Charlotte this year.
Yeah true, thats why the Hawks instantly turn into the best defensive team when Trae misses games right?

Stop helping out on everyone if you're not going to really trap them.
Yeah its weird, we're "helping" but often not even digging down on the ball handler. We are seriously lacking fundamentals on D...definitely an indictment on the assistant coaching staff.

Can we please get Bogi out of the game? Dude is getting burned on D and contributing nothing to the offense. He must have nude pics of Nate's wife or something.

Oh, my goodness. If Bogie can't play tonight, what will we do? Who do you suppose we might find to fill in for him? Don't say any of the new players. You know they haven't had time to memorize the entire play book (both pages) and would be completely lost.
Woe is me!

Does it matter in sports? Is the ASG the ultimate goal?
So, unless there's some ASG bonus money he's forfeiting, who the hell cares. Right? The only disadvantage is one in your and others' heads. Perception. Nothing tangible.

Serious question... Is Simmons the single worst contract in the NBA?
Why do we complain about JCs contract then keep talking about bringing in Simmons? It literally makes no sense.

2 games in a row opponent hits 19 3s on nearly 50% shooting. We gotta do something about our perimeter defense.
Quin Snyder, Charles Lee or Kenny Atkinson
in Homecourt
Posted
Here are the weaknesses.
What are Quin Snyders weaknesses?
One area where Snyder has received criticism in the past is in his team's defensive performance. While the Jazz have been a strong defensive team under Snyder overall, there have been times when they have struggled to defend the three-point line, and some critics have suggested that Snyder's defensive system may be overly complex or reliant on too much switching.
Additionally, some have suggested that Snyder may sometimes struggle with player management or with getting the most out of certain players. However, it is worth noting that these criticisms are relatively minor and do not detract from Snyder's overall track record of success as a coach.
What are Kenny Atkinsons weaknesses?
One area where Atkinson has been criticized in the past is in his in-game decision-making, particularly with regards to player rotations and end-of-game situations. Some critics have suggested that Atkinson can be overly analytical or reliant on data, and that this may sometimes lead to him making decisions that are not in the best interest of the team.
Additionally, some have suggested that Atkinson may sometimes struggle with managing star players or with dealing with locker room issues. However, it is worth noting that these criticisms are relatively minor and do not detract from Atkinson's overall track record of success as a coach, particularly in the areas of player development and culture-building.
What are Charles Lees weaknesses?
One area where Lee may need to continue to develop as a coach is in terms of his overall coaching experience. While Lee has been credited with playing a key role in the development of young players like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton, he has only been an assistant coach in the NBA for a few seasons, and has not yet had the opportunity to serve as a head coach or to fully develop his own coaching philosophy.
Additionally, as with any coach, Lee may have areas where he can continue to develop his skills and expertise, such as in-game decision-making, player management, or strategic planning. However, at this point in his career, it is difficult to assess any specific weaknesses that he may have as a coach.
