  1. Positionless basketball doesn't work if you fill the roster with a buncha stiffs. C'mon people, get real.
  2. Love this GIF. Love Korver's defense (as I already said). Still don't like Korver defending SFs.
  3. I like Korver as a defender. I hate Korver defending SFs.
  4. Was high on him for the first few months of last season. He and Jordan Hill were the only things worth watching on that Lakers squad. Didn't have a great season overall, but the Lakers were atrocious. I'm not sure how much I can blame him for his season. I'd be glad to have him aboard as like a 7th or 8th man. I'm still not 100% sold on Thabo as a starter but I don't thing Johnson (or probably anybody else still available at this point) will be a better option for that role.
  5. I know Ted Valentine because he's sort of a college Joey Crawford, plus he seemed to have legitimate animosity towards Paul Hewitt back when he was coaching GT. Hate that guy.
  6. I have it defaulting to muted. Currently there's no option to turn sound on but I'll hopefully have that done soon!
  7. I couldn't believe it either. Wish I thought of it sooner I would've built something more fully featured around it. But hey, I have this domain forever now.
  8. (p.s. - I know it's kinda wonky on iPhone and iPad, so I might have to figure out a workaround for those folks. If you have any other feedback though I'd appreciate it!)
  9. (Shamelessly stolen from my man @FrankWhite.) I threw this together this morning after reading a fellow Squawker invoke the 1995 Source Awards ceremony where OutKast announced their arrival. Tired (and sort of in disbelief) about how much negativity, doubt, and lack of respect this team still gets, I bring to you: http://thesouthgotsomethingtosay.com Don't get your hopes up, it ain't all that. But it'd be cool if that hashtag became our rallying cry for the next few weeks!
  10. I apologize if this has already been said elsewhere but... The Game 1 loss was a statistical anomaly. The Hawks had 53 (53!!!!) uncontested field goal attempts, and they made only 15 of them. That's 28%. TWENTY. EIGHT. Not only is that unfathomably bad by Hawks standards, that's bad by any team's standards. A one game sample means absolutely nothing in sports. It certainly means nothing in basketball, which is why we play seven-game series. If the Hawks continue to get something in the neighborhood of 53 uncontested shots per game, they're going to beat the brakes off of teams. Blame it on nerves. Blame it on fatigue. Blame it on the Illuminati tightening up the rims. Doesn't matter what you blame it on, just understand that such a performance will likely never happen again.
  11. I was at this game. First time at Barclays Center, hooray for me! Defense was obviously lacking, not just in principles but also in effort. My friend and I joked that with the guys knowing they'd be in NYC for several nights in a row playing against a clearly inferior team, they may have gone too hard Friday night. Everyone looked sluggish. Even during TV timeouts our guys seemed worn out the whole game. Shooting under 40% just isn't going to fly in the playoffs but MAN did we get unlucky. Layups repeatedly rimming out, jumpers going half way down and rattling out. And not to mention some of the swallowed whistles in the second half. We were still in the game until the final 90 seconds. That's amazing. The most worrisome thing for me are the injuries to Al and Paul. If it didn't come across in his play, Paul was visibly favoring his shoulder throughout the game. We can't assume DMC is going to score 20 every game, we need Paul to be close to 100% or we might be cooked. I didn't notice Al acting any differently regarding his hand, but he's missing almost every shot that would normally be a gimme for him. Sometimes badly. Makes me nervous. I'm still not worried about this series. You don't need to sound the alarms after a single road loss. That said, the last three playoff games I went to (two for the Hawks, one for the Falcons) were all losses. I'm starting to get a complex.
  12. I don't think Pero was already in handcuffs but he's already been subdued and is all but lying flat on his back on the curb. Also, for those saying the cop hit Thabo with his baton, that's what it looked like to me as well. But a poster on reddit linked me to a YouTube video showing someone demoing a bunch of auto-extending police batons. When they extend all the way, they make the snapping sound you hear in the video. So I don't think he hit Thabo, he was just extending his baton. That said, it still looks like an obvious overuse of force, but that's just a biased opinion from this Hawks fan who also happens to be a lawyer and who also happens to live in New York City and who also happens to think the NYPD have a bunch of reckless thugs in their midst.
  13. I already had it all played out in my head how LeBron would be harassed for 36 minutes by DMC and 12 minutes by Thabo. Sigh...
  14. Kyle's streak ends at 51 games too. =(
  15. This is all the validation I need!
  16. http://tomamerica.com/cleaning-up-the-glass-when-rebounding-meets-analytics/ As I mentioned in that other thread (http://hawksquawk.net/community/topic/404381-hawks-face-tough-stretch-rebounding-concerns-post-break), I wrote something about rebounding and analytics. I went into it with an open mind, so no accusations of confirmation bias please! No earth-shattering findings here if you've done your research, but I hope I was able to take things apart in a somewhat novel way. As usual any and all feedback is appreciated. Thanks!
  17. I mentioned awhile ago that I was working on my own piece on rebounding. I went into it not knowing what the data was going to show. In the end, it ended up repeating what (apparently) all the smart people analyzing basketball for a living are saying about rebounding. I won't spoil it here, take a look if you have the time and inclination. http://tomamerica.com/cleaning-up-the-glass-when-rebounding-meets-analytics/
  18. I'm working on a piece about the importance of rebounding to winning teams but it'll probably be another couple of days or so before it's ready. It started off being Hawks-focused but I realized half way into my research that the data shows some very obvious trends that are relevant regardless of what team you root for. Stay tuned!
  19. Thanks for the feedback. I'm tend to be more of a "what do the numbers say" guy rather than a "what do my eyes tell me" guy, so I hope to write more things that make similar use of numbers and the super sweet charts you can get from places like stats.nba.com or basketball-reference.com. I'm glad you liked it!
  20. High praise coming from the master of the pre-game longform. I'll take it!
  21. If you have some time on your hands I'd love for you to take a look at this piece I put together on Mike Scott and tell me what you think. Do you think the analysis is good (spoiler alert: I like Mike Scott)? Is there anything about the format that you love or hate? Tear it apart! I'm looking to get back into writing more frequently, so any and all feedback is appreciated. http://tomamerica.com/who-is-mike-scott-dunks-and-basketball-vol-1/ I'd post the whole thing here but, well, it's 2,000+ words.
