True, but it still limits our flexibility. Rather than taking on salary AND getting a player we only get to do one.
I'd also be incredibly surprised if they didn't waive the luxury tax or mitigate it in some way, given that this was (mostly) out of teams control.
You were saying Bembry showed potential to be a summer league superstar?
Look, I can see a world where you're right about Toppin, I don't think he's a walking bust like Stanley Johnson, RJ Barrett, DeAndre Ayton, etc, but we're all wrong sometimes. I thought Cody Zeller was gonna be a superstar
Collins and Toppin are the same age, and it's not like Toppin was playing great competition. Toppin shows FLASHES of passing, he's hit threes on low volume and he's shown ok footwork playing against folks who won't sniff a professional league.
Collins just dropped 20/10 on 65% TS in the NBA. Toppin is a hall of famer if he's THAT much better than Collins. Collins deserves more respect around here.
More than happy with Okungwu because I think his long term upside is very high, but I worry he won't get enough playing time with the current roster. If we get Okungwu, I think we should look to trade Dedmon
I also don't buy Toppin at all. D looks weak and athleticism overrated
I think there is literally no deal the Knicks could offer to make us give up Trae. Their best prospect is probably Robinson, a limited C. Inb4 Knicks tell me that RJ "StraightBustBecauseICantShootDefendOrFinishDueToMyLackOfSkillAndAthleticism" Barrett is worth Trae alone
I'm starting to think that nailing this pick is our last easy shot at an all star. I'm still thinking Hayes. Some of his issues will look better as a secondary guy rather than the lead guard
I think for this team to truly unlock its potential Trae needs to get better without the ball. If that's not in the cards for him, you're probably right.
I guess thats where I disagree. I don't think Harrell is in the same world as Draymond impact wise. Again, fine player, but I'm not breaking the bank for him. If he's cheaper than the other available options, sure
Trez and Draymond are very, very different players. Draymond is an excellent passer, Trez is not. Draymond is one of the best defenders ever, Trez is OK. Draymond is an abhorrent finisher, Trez is one of the best in the league.
Again, Trez is a solid player, I'd take him if he's like $10-12M. $15-20M? Ain't happening. Quote me on it
I don't like his hips or feet on D. He's an OK shot blocker, OK rebounder. I guess I don't see anything that's a plus. I'd take him if the price isn't super high, but I saw someone saying like $20M for the dude. No way on that front. He's an OK player. He's a legitimately great play finisher, but we've already got Collins and Capela. I'd rather aim higher, while also addressing our weaknesses, because we've got big time weaknesses.
I'm not a huge believer in his defense. Not awful, certainly not great
Again, solid player, but I look at it this way: our biggest needs are shooting, defense and playmaking. IMO, he helps with none of those.
I agree this draft is underrated, though I don't think Okoro would be my pick. I like him but that shot really scares me. Problem is, I'm not sure who the pick is. This draft is underrated in that all of the prospects are flawed, but there's a lot to like about each of them. Just a question of if they fix those big flaws to reach a high upside, or are just guys.
I'm leaning Hayes or Anthony right now I think. Maybe Deni? Okungwu? Nesmith? Vassell? Hell, Okoro ain't bad. Then there's Edward's too. I could talk myself into Lamelo.
Hope Schlenk gets it right
Harrell is a good player but redundant IMO w/ Collins and Capela already on the roster. We need shooting and defense on the worst way and he helps with neither
I'd rather get Bertans if we want a backup 4, he can shoot at least
