Then I wouldn’t do it. Let Bud suffer in Atlanta and leave when his contract ends.
so sick of Atlanta franchise getting screwed in every tight situation they get in. I like bud but for once I hope we have a franchise that has some damn balls
if bud doesn’t try his last two seasons then it’d be on his reputation as well. Right now he’s still known as a good coach...if he shows no coaching effort over two years it will hurt his good reputation that he currently has.
to me Atlanta controls the situation...now how are you going to go about it is the question
This would be par for the course for Atlanta if we let him walk for nothing. We HAVE TO get something back for him or else it's clear to me we have no hope for the future with the current leadership. Smooooove, Horford, Millsap all could have been traded for some assets but instead we let them walk away for ZERO.

Oh, I do not doubt that there is strain between Ressler and Bud, but I think the ultimate reason is the decision to bottom out. Most coaches aren't going to be on board with that. Pheonix is also much further along in their rebuild than the Hawks, and a coach like Bud can make a significant difference with that team, a team that has been very poorly coached for a while now. In Phoenix, Bud sees a team that is finally ready to commit to doing things to win, and I imagine they will be players in free agency this off season.
I still think you have to blame the owner, at the end of the day it was HIS decision to bottom out. You think he hired Schlenk without discussing what they were planning on doing this year?
And if it's true that Ressler is the owner who yelled at Bud then we are screwed for as long as he's owner. Doesn't matter if we decided to tank or not when your ownership sucks your team will never be successful.

This article breaks it down a little further:
QuoteGiven the information provided by Woj, and restricting “last several weeks” to the last three weeks of the regular season, here are the potentially inflammatory wins.
00- March 25: Knicks - 101, Wizards - 97
- March 26: Grizzlies - 101, Wolves - 93
- April 6: Hawks - 103, Wizards - 97
- April 8: Hawks - 112, Celtics - 106
- April 11: Knicks - 110, Cavaliers - 98
Those are the five likeliest candidates based on a strict reading of Woj’s little scoop. The Atlanta Hawks’ owners have the best case to be infuriated, since the team lost a shot at the second-worst record by inexplicably beating two playoff teams at the end of the season, then losing a coin flip against the Mavericks to finish with the fourth-best lottery odds.

Follow the trends. Lillard was drafted in 2012, and you simply don't see guys who spend all four years in college go that high any longer. We are one year removed from a draft where one and done players constituted 11 of the 14 picks.
How do you think they choose the players to "hype" up? Clearly it's not based on real talent since Bagley and Ayton suck. Is there a shoe company lottery where they choose random high school kids to hype up in order to make money of them? Or what exactly is this shoe company hype conspiracy?

I'm just giving you the reality of the NBA draft as it currently is with the hyped up but little substance talent that will be entering the league.
Curry, Westbrook and Lillard were clearly not hyped up but still went top 10 so I'm not sure what point you are making.

Let's just say that I'm not impressed with pretty much anyone at the top of the 2019 class, anyone in the 2020 class though I'm intrigued by Carey Jr, or the majority of the guys rated highly this year.
I'm just saying it's wayyyyyy too early, there's plenty of examples of unheralded high school players who turn into top 10 picks. Just off the top of my head you got Curry, Westbrook and Lillard.

2018: Luka Doncic, DeAndre Ayton, Marvin Bagley III, Jaren Jackson Jr, Michael Porter Jr, Trae Young, and Mohamed Bamba
2019: RJ Barrett, Cameron Reddish, Zion Williamson, Bol Bol, Nasir Little, Keldon Johnson, and Darius Bazley
2020: James Wiseman, Vernon Carey Jr, Charles Bassey, Cole Anthony, Matthew Hurt, Scottie Lewis, and Bryan Antoine
So tell me, why should I get excited for the direction the Hawks have chosen to go in when I look at this pool of talent? Who among these players are the building blocks of championship teams?
It's ridiculous to try to project who will be a star player this far out. Some of these kids are juniors in high school. Anthony Davis wasn't even on the recruiting radar when his junior year began, who knows who will rise to the top of the class.

The only proven way of winning and or competing for a championship with any regularity in the NBA is to have elite, super-star talent. Hall of fame talent. The 04 Pistons (or whatever year that was) were an anomaly not the blueprint. You need star power to win in this league.
And there's exactly 3 ways to acquire such talent: 1. You trade for it; 2. You draft it; or 3. You sign in in FA. Problem is, if a team has a truly elite player, the ransom they require to trade said talent is more than any franchise can bare generally. So really, there's only 2 practical ways to acquire the necessary talent to win a title. Draft em or sign em.
And last I checked, superstars in their prime ain't walking through that door. So while I don't necessarily like tanking, I'm willing to see how it goes as it's really the only way for a team like the Hawks to acquire elite talent, barring something unforeseen or out of the norm.
I do agree that the front office has to know what they are doing for this strategy to work. They better be really good at talent eval and be able to make good moves to parlay assets into legit NBA vets at some point. IMO, you build the base through the draft and then try your luck at either signing quality vets to support the base or attracting an elite FA to play with the exciting young base.
This exact point has been re-hashed over and over on here and 99% of us understand the logic behind it. Someone will be here soon to tell you why you're completely wrong though.

No the Wizards took care of us easily in the 1st round last year. You're thinking of 2 years ago when the Cavs absolutely destroyed us in 4 games. Or maybe the year before that when they... absolutely destroyed us in 4 games. What a shame that we couldn't have another fun year of that.

Everyone, but me, had Wiggins as the top guy, and anyone that says otherwise is trust practicing revisionist history. Of course, that draft was hyped up similar to this one as well, and I imagine the results will be similar.

Losing Bud is bad ... he is an excellent coach and is a key to any future success... it’s a big step back wards if he leaves
Yes I 100% agree losing Bud would be a HUGE blow. I wish we could actually discuss this issue without it turning into an argument about tanking (as if there is some other option at this point) like every other thread right now.

We all know the lottery is rigged anyway, maybe the NBA will help us out since we at least somewhat tried unlike Phoenix and Memphis.

Oh wait, you're right. That's a good point. I guess we're stuck with Mark Fox.

No coach of any quality is going to be willing to touch this tank job with a 10 foot pole. Seriously, what up and coming head coach is going to be willing to go into a situation where it's going to be years before he can win? The Hawks will hire a sacrificial lamb to get through the next 4-5 seasons.
Ok how about this. If Mark Fox is hired by the Atlanta Hawks as their head coach I will never post here again. Will you do the same if it doesn't happen?
There's a higher chance of LeBron joining the Hawks then Mark Fox. You must just be trying to get reactions out of people at this point because there's no way you honestly believe we would try to hire him.
Let's call up Paul Hewitt too while we're at it I'm sure he'd be happy to join.

As I have maintained, he does not want to be a part of this. He's going to leave, and now you are seeing the reason Travis Schlenk has been letting Mark Fox travel with the team.
I will also add that losing Bud will set this back even more.
Mark Fox?? Like the UGA coach? LMFAO

If BIG IF, If Bud leaves and we are well compensated, who should we bring in
in Homecourt

If he's "phenomenal" I don't think it would have taken this long to get hired again.
Yeah according to some people with Bud we will lose 60+ games for the next 5 years but somehow the even WORSE Suns will improve by 20+ wins when he goes there. Logic flies out the window with some posters I swear.
