  1. They could get a lot better deal for Lewis than that. That's Dion and junk for a young up and coming player. No way they'd do it. If they do SNT Lewis, it will be for more than that.

    JT Side Note

nobody knows how well he can run the offense. You are doing nothing but hyping assumptions. Saying that having him makes JT expendable is ignorant. Especially when your only reasoning behind it is a baseless assumption that "he can run the offense". Which in the NBA is an unproven, unfounded, blind statement. To take it a step further he was NOT a great college point guard. he was more of a scorer than a point guard. So how the hell can you say "he can run the offense". He can score, we know that. He only collected 4.5 APG in college. I mean you yourself said that JT's 6 APG were nothing but "simple assists", so how the hell does 4.5 APG AT A COLLEGE LEVEL translate into being able to run an offense at the pro level? Simply enough, it doesn't. You are just spinning things your way to be right. I mean you have blasted babs and the hawks scouting enough, how did every other team let this guy slip through the cracks then? I'm not nocking DD, I think he'll be a good player for us. But realistically he had a high profile enough college career yet he still slipped through the cracks. Obviously other teams felt he was lacking enough things that they were willing to just pass. Mainly they felt that he IS NOT a real point guard, he's a SG in a PG's body and that combined with being under 6' tall means they weren't interested. Now I know you truely believe that you are more knowledgeable than anyone who actually works in the NBA. But that's a bit of a stretch.
  3. Babcock dismisses talk of acquiring Sprewell By MICHAEL LEE Atlanta Journal-Constitution Staff Writer Boston -- The Hawks were supposed to get a jolt Friday with the arrival of center Theo Ratliff at Shaw's Pro Summer League. They were stunned early in the day with a report of trade talks involving Jason Terry. Neither turned out to be true. Ratliff was closing on a home in Atlanta Friday, but the time was moved from noon to 3 p.m., making it impossible for him to catch a flight and play in the Hawks' game against Orlando. Ratliff, who is rehabbing an injured hip that limited him to just three games last season, is expected to play Saturday and Sunday. "If he can get here, he will [play]," Hawks coach Lon Kruger said. "We would have liked to see him tonight, but it's not a huge deal," Hawks general manager Pete Babcock said. "We've seen him every day in Atlanta, he's in great shape, he's 100 percent. It's unusual for a player of his status to even want to play. This was something he initiated. It's really more for him than for us to evaluate him." But with Ratliff gone, Babcock assumed the role of defensive specialist, swatting away a report in the New York Daily News that had Hawks rising star Terry in the middle of a three-team including the Knicks' Latrell Sprewell and either Cleveland's Andre Miller or Minnesota's Wally Szczerbiak. "That's just one that was out of the blue," Babcock said, adamantly. "I'll tell you how valid this stuff is, [Hawks president Stan Kasten] called me this morning and wanted to know why I hadn't told him we were making the move. I told him, 'I don't know anything about it.' "We would trade anybody on our team, if it made us better and normally, I wouldn't comment on conversations that we've had with other teams," Babcock said, "but I have not had a conversation, to date, about Jason Terry in any way shape or form -- with the exception of one team, prior to the draft, inquiring about Jason for their draft pick. That's the only conversation I've had about Jason Terry in the last two months. "So all these statements that we've been trying to trade him since we got [Dan] Dickau. There's absolutely no truth to that," he said. The Knicks have been shopping Sprewell heavily this summer -- his name has been mentioned in trades with Milwaukee and Detroit in the last week -- but Babcock scoffed at any chance of him playing in Atlanta. After Sprewell's suspension for choking former Golden State coach P.J. Carlesimo in December 1997, Babcock said that Sprewell would never wear a Hawks jersey. "Those statements always come back to bite me, but I still believe that," Babcock said. "It's unfair to compare players, but we went against our standards to a degree with [J.R.] Rider a few years ago. We rolled the dice and we lost big time on it. We would have to think very hard about bending again."
  4. The games didn't flow as well with JT as the PG. He did a good job of collecting simple assists.... ----------- that's nothing but personal opinion. Many many times I saw JT make great timely passes in the flow of the offense only to have Nazr/DJ/Hanno/Reef drop the pass or hesitate and get nothing. You surround him with better players and he'll be a top 5 point guard. As usual you spin things teh way you want to spin them so that you can seem right. There are lots of other pg's out there that have a LOT more to pass to than JT did and they aren't getting 6 assists. Kenny anderson? Hell, if I had those two guys to pass to I could average 10 assists myself. JT was pulling near 8 assists per game in the last month of the season. I guess 8 simple assists are easy too right? laugh.

    Dan Dickau

he's a short white guy who plays point guard. Wouldn't matter if he sucked or not, he'd still get compared to other white point guards. some of which also happen to have horrible hair.
  6. PRojecting JT's 2nd half numbers puts him as a top 10 PG in the NBA. How is that not top level? And that's from only playing the position full time for 1/2 a season!! Those fools in Golden state who believed that Larry Hughes was a point guard would have [censored] their pants if he had ever put up PG numbers that put him in the top 10. How long did they try that project and what exactly did hughes do in it that was worth mentioning? NOTHING. JT was put in a position that sooo many players get put in and totally fail. The difference was that JT improved game by game. He did not fail. Also saying that DD will pass JT is nonsense. The possibility is there, sure. it's there with any player. But be realistic for about 5 seconds. DD will NEVER have the scoring ability that JT has and he will never have the speed and mobility that JT has. Projecting that a guy who slipped to the last spot in the first round will be better than a 20/6/2 guy who is actually doing it today is a bit much.
  7. One of the guys on 790thezone now (4pm) was talking about it with a caller and denounced the trade as a "bad move". The caller was also against it mainly due to Spree's age. Was the caller anyone from here? Good to see someone in the mainstream sports media denouncing this trade.
  8. It is very very easy to get a 14.4 connection via a cellular modem. THis is not a full time wireless network connection we're talking about here, which is what you mentioned. it's a simple dialup analog modem connection that happens to use a cell phone instead of a land line. It's billed just normal cell usage. Very easy, very old tech. Not lightening fast, but plenty fast enough to connect to aol (or any other isp) for short periods. It's speculation anyway, who knows how he was connecting and who cares. My point was that his technical explanation for why hawksfreak wasn't really at the game wasn't valid, and it wan't. Heck there are options that don't even require a modem. With many phones you can buy a cable that connects from the phone to your com port and you can dial into any network you like, isp or otherwise. Again, it's not lightening fast, but it's servicable.
  9. Violent little man hahahah that made me laugh good. hahahaha
  10. He could easily be using a cellular modem on his laptop, very easily. Many laptops include them as options these days. There is no wizardry involved in getting one and making it work. Your IRQ explanation may have been valid 5 years ago. But it's not today. Ever year of IRQ cascading? He would have zero problems having a free IRQ on a modern (last 2-4 years) laptop. Considering that he's using AOL, there is no reason he couldn't have been using a local pop or dialing into his pop here in atlanta. I don't know if he's at the game or not. I don't really care. If he is, great for him. If not, whatever. But your technical explanation of why he is not, is not valid in any way.
  11. Yeah there's a huge difference in simply KNOWING that a guy has a gun versus the guy actually pulling it out or threatening to use it on you. It's easy to draw a conclusion when you are sitting back reading about it. The guy in the apartment has said that after talking to him at the door for a minute and telling him she wasn't there he pushed his way in the place to look around for her. He didn't kick the door in, he didn't put his 9 under the guys nose and demand to be let in. He pushed the door open and walked in. The guy has also said that he never saw the gun, but he knew it was there. Iverson never pulled it out. I mean this is his cousin. I think it's safe to say that this guy would know if AI usually carries a gun. I know lots of people who carry guns. I would never feel threatened by it if I had an arguement with one of them though. At least as long as they never pulled it on me. None of the charges against him will stick, and rightfully so. If it were not Allen Iverson involved, something like this wouldn't even make it on a BAD episode of COPS. If it were you and I, charges wouldn't even be filed. At the most, the average person would spend a night in jail, AT MOST, for the forceful entry charge. There would be no court, no trial, nothing. Unfortunately for Iverson he's already been sentenced in the court of public opinion. Sure AI is a wannabe thug. Sure he's the typical pampered star who thinks he can do anything. Sure he's a bit of a dumba$$. But for everyone to suddenly turn on him over NOTHING after over a year of people saying "man AI isn't so bad after all" is just absurd and it shows how easily people are swayed by the media.
  12. THis is such a non-issue case. It's funny to watch people get fired up and break out the torches for a good witchhunt ala frankenstein. These are ALL charges that the police felt "might" stick if they got enough evidence and enough people to testify against AI. That's all it is. The guy who owned the apartment, AI's cousin, has said many times that "Iverson had a gun but he never pulled it out". Truth be told he's ASSUMING that iverson had a gun. Maybe he did, maybe this guy knows he always carries one with him. BUt he never pulled it out. He never threatened to kill the guy and he didn't kick his door in to get in his house. If you bite on this crap then you are nothing but a media fish. They throw a negative angle out there like a worm on a hook and you swallow it whole. Every one of those charges will get thrown out. This is nothing more than a case of a high dollar star doing something that you and I would at most spend a night in jail over and it would be done, AT MOST. We all know AI isn't the average nba player. We all know he's got a little street in him or at the very least he wants everyone to think he does. But to suddenly turn against him and build up this mindset against him over this crap is just absurd.
  13. you say nobody would want to sign with us with the team we have now. Well, look at minnesota. NOBODY wants to play with KG, NOBODY. He's a overbearing personality and that gets overlooked because of his mid-high talent level. I say mid-high as I have already stated he is NOT an elite player. They have a hard time signing mid-talent FA's and it's in large part due to KG's personality. They know that no matter how good they are, they are always going to have to defer to KG. Good he is, but not THAT good. His personality and salary make him undesirable in my book. If his salary were in line with his production, I would jump on it. But otherwise no thanks.
  14. He would sap the life out of this team. Everyone treats him like he is teh golden boy of the nba. The fact is he is NOT a dominant player. 21ppg is NOT dominant. It is good, but it is far from elite. He does a lot though, I will give him that. He certainly is not worth Reef and a healthy Theo. He's the most overrated player in the game. Heck, the most overrated in the last 3 years.
  15. The media is making it sound like he kicked someones door in and pulled a gun on them. When the reality is that he pushed his way in the guys door looking for his wife and "probably" had a gun on him. But the guy in the apartment has stated that "he never pulled out a gun". The media heard Iverson and gun mentioned together and went on a witch hunt. I feel for the guy, though his history is what brings it on. That said I wouldn't want iverson. He's a heck of a player. But he's too small. You have to do too much to your team to have success with him. Then there is also the way he plays. Once he starts having (as he already is) physical problems, it's going to really take away from his game. No thanks.
  16. Venus, now that she's lost some weight and slimmed down, has an awesome body. But neither of them are good looking. people see them with fame glasses. If they weren't famous people, the average person wouldn't even notice them.
  17. I emailed them today about it. We'll see what kind of response I get. Thanks for pointing that one out D.
  18. Despite the number of posts we get or the quality of our site, we are still just a fan site to them and we represent a small percentage of their potential "fans". If they were to give us some sort of support then it would put them in a sticky position when it came to other fan sites out there, including sponsored portal sites like RealGm or hoopshype. I would love to find some way to work with them. If for nothing else to bring a little something extra to the dedicated fans who visit our site. But when it comes to them going out of their way to do things for us, it's just not going to happen. I have tried contacting them about letting us set up Q&A's or interviews with some of the players, staff and management and they don't even reply to me. So I think it's safe to say they don't really consider us a large enough representation of their fanbase to bother with.
  19. newbill can hit the open shot, just not the 3pt shot. SO get it right. Don't fudge what you are saying so you can sound right. He's a good shooter, just not a 3pt shooter, yet. He certainly has the ability to beome a 30-35% 3 shooter though. What walter said is right. Rick Fox is more like Ty Corbin than Ira is simply because Fox's talent level is MAXXED. He is never going to be anything more than what he is right now. Ira Newbill has the ability to be better than he is. Ignoring that just so you can be right is a joke.
  20. ""A guy who would embarrass the franchise or a guy who has consistently shown he can be a scoring threat when he needed to be."" That's garbage and you know it. If rick fox were consistant the Lakers wouldn't have had to work to get to the finals this year. Did you even watch those games? All through the playoffs all you heard was "when is someone else on the lakers going to step up". Seems like Mr. Consistancy wasn't very consistant when they needed him the most. Not to mention the months at a time he takes off during the regular season. For what Rick Fox would cost us to get him, I would rather have Newbill. Now is totally irrelevant. We aren't going to win NOW. I'd rather develop someone who could do he job tomorrow than to get a guy with medicre talent, a larger contract, no desire to be in our city and more grey hair every day. Why don't you give Newbill some time to try and develop instead of trying to replace him at every turn? The guy has never been in a position that a team wants him for a certain role. He has talent, he's very athletic and has a good mid-range shot. Why not give him the chance to improve his game to match the role the Hawks gave him? He's said to be working feverishly on his shot this summer. If that's the case there is no reason he can't be what we need at a great price. You call him Ty Corbin jr and that's a**-talk. Ty Corbins talent was maxxed out when we had him. He did not have the ability to be any better than what he was for us. Ira Newbill has the ability to be better than what we've seen so far. He's not going to replace Vince Carter in the All-stars, but he has talent and has the ability to become better.
  21. saying we'll never win anything with Newbill is a crock. Every team needs someone in their starting lineup who doesn't need the ball, can score when needed and plays their a** off for 48 minutes. The lakers are stocked with those players. As are the spurs, kings, Nets, etc. You DON'T win without them. It doesn't matter that he plays SF, that's meaningless. If he puts in 11-14 ppg, that's all we need. If we found someone who is clearly better, who also gave the energy and defense then yes, we'd be stupid not to jump on it. But to say we'll never win anything with him in there extremely premature. Before you go changing things around, changing what worked for 1/2 of last season. Give it some time and see what Ira can do. He proved that he's a good "when called on" scorer and as the rumors have it he's out working on his shot all summer. He's seen a role that he can succeed in and he's improving himself in the areas that need it the most. He shot a high % last year and if he improves even slightly he'll bring more to the role than Ty Corbin ever could.
  22. But Pettite isn't the pettite of old. Clemmens has slipped every year he's been a yankee, nobody fears him. Mussina is only slightly above average now and over his career. Wells, is slipping away too. You can say that they are a "helluva rotation" but the proof is in the pudding. David Wells is the only guy they ahve with an ERA under 4. That's not good. Looking at the win/loss record for a pitcher is meaningless. Look at the stats that count if you want to judge them. ERA, BAVG, IP. That's what counts. Coming out of the AL, wins and losses mean even less because of the DH.
  23. If we get a healthy Theo that only misses a few games (if any) this season, then yes, we certainly do need him. He is an upper echelon player in this league and when healthy is one of the top 3-4 centers in this league. With the ability to be top 2. Using one game from last season as an example of how some young bucks "abused" him is very premature and in my mind taking a negative angle for the sake of it. If Theo were healthy and in "game shape" I would put him up against those guys ANY DAY. Jahadi white?? ETan Thomas?? Please, a healthy Theo who is in shape will destroy those guys, you know it and I know it. He's played against bigger players that are WAY more skilled than those bums his entire career and didn't get "abused". What you saw last year was an anomoly and was not indicative of what Theo can do. That said if he's not healthy then yes, he should be moved. The crux being that if he's not healthy, he's going to be near impossible to move. The fact is that the Hawks managment aren't going to get rid of him until they know how hes' going to hold up. If you hear rumors that the hawks are shopping him. then you can bank that they aren't convinced of his health. They aren't idiots though and they aren't going to sit there forcing themselves to hope and believe that he's healthy when he's not. A healthy Theo gives us something that none of those trade players combined can give us, an intimidator. With Theo there are few players in the league that will challenge him openly. Even without Theo we should have an improved defensive team. We were arleady better in the 2nd half last season, a healthy Theo makes us that much better. And that's not all about his shot blocking ability. He's a smart defender period. He knows how to rotate and how to pick up someone elses man. Things that Nazr just was not experienced enough or willing to do. We will not see countless numbers of medicre players walking to the basket uncontested with Theo in the game. That alone will make a HUGE difference in what this team can do.
  24. I don't think any of them are "max" Players. Miller and Davis are close though. Bibby is NOT a max player and never will be. I dont' care how good you are in a few playoff games. He he stepped it up and showed he could play like that for an entire season, perhaps. But I don't think he's capable of playing at that level full time. JT isn't a max player either. He deserves a very very good contract, but not the max. If he steps up and shows he can be a real PG for this team, give him the max. Otherwise no.
  25. we don't need a bigger point guard at all. JT is just the right size for the position. The only reason we need a bigger point guard is if he's going to play shooting guard. In which case we should just trade him for a real SG and get it over with.
