  1. BS! That was a shooting foul… Bey should’ve gone to the line.
  2. Another uphill battle indeed. Based on the assigned refs, I have the Hawks at a 39% chance to win. Expecting the refs to allow Miami to play much more physical (lots of no calls) and touch fouls for us if we are playing well. GO HAWKS!!!
  3. Couldn’t agree more! Curious to see the Last 2 Minute Report of this game when it comes out, but doubt it’ll bring any real change. Here’s a link to where it’ll be posted: https://official.nba.com/2022-23-nba-officiating-last-two-minute-reports/ Honestly, you wouldn’t have a student grade their own work. Yes refs are human, but the system needs radical changes to make the games more fair and transparent. I’m all for a non-biased 3rd party that isn’t connected to the NBA and is not financially benefited by the results of games to start publicly auditing full games. Force the NBA’s hand to bring the purity of the sport back. That is until AI is ready to take over. Wonder if hacking could be minimized if the code/settings for games are recorded and transparent so any changes/hacks to the AI would be easily identifiable. Regardless, hacking would at least be more controllable than the current human biases/error refs have today.
  4. FYI, here are the refs that were assigned to the Instant Replay Center tonight. I included their team records since Trae's been in the league (% rank vs 30 teams | % rank vs other refs for same team) when reffing for either team: Instant Replay Center Refs tonight: Matt Boland: MIN 13-14 (17|33), ATL 12-7 (4|10) John Goble: MIN 9-9 (15|27), ATL 5-17 (30|80) Matt Myers: MIN 6-9 (23|64), ATL 4-15 (27|92) Justin Van Duyne: MIN 17-6 (2|4), ATL 5-11 (28|72) John Conley: MIN 3-6 (22|79), ATL 2-4 (23|65) Looks like we had a 1 in 5 shot the IRC would overturn the call. Wonder which ref replayed it?
  5. Refs assigned for tonight's Hawks @ TWolves game and their career team records (with % rank vs other teams and % rank vs other 76 refs for same team) when reffing for either team: Crew Chief: Ben Taylor #46 - MIN 14-21 (27th | 35th), ATL 17-16 (14th | 26th) Ref: Scott Twardoski #52 - MIN 16-29 (26th | 55th), ATL 15-20 (23th | 57th) Umpire: Cheryl Flores #91 - MIN 2-0 (2nd | 1st), ATL 2-0 (1st | 1st) Based on these refs, Scott Twardoski is the one that might blow this game for us. However, due to our last outing against MIN, I personally have the Hawks at a 64% chance to get revenge and pull out a win tonight! GO HAWKS!!!
  6. Refs assigned for tonight's Hawks vs Pistons game and their career team records (with % rank vs other teams and % rank vs other 76 refs for same team) when reffing for either team: Crew Chief: Bill Kennedy #55 - DET 50-53 (16th | 21st), ATL 40-53 (25th | 56th) Ref: Karl Lane #77 - DET 19-29 (25th | 46th), ATL 23-21 (12th | 24th) Umpire: Matt Boland #18 - DET 35-32 (12th | 10th), ATL 30-37 (25th | 52nd) Based on the refs assigned, DET definitely has a chance to win tonight. However, since we just came off a bad loss, I personally have the Hawks at a 78% chance to win tonight! GO HAWKS!!!
  7. Refs assigned for Hawks @ Spurs game and their career team records (with % rank vs other teams and % rank vs other 76 refs for same team) when reffing for either team: Crew Chief: Pat Fraher #26 - SAS 65-27 (1st | 7th), ATL 46-38 (7th | 20th) Ref: Tom Washington #49 - SAS 76-37 (1st | 13th), ATL 49-45 (10th | 25th) Umpire: Robert Hussey #85 - SAS 4-2 (8th | 19th), ATL 4-1 (4th | 5th) Based on these refs assigned, I predict a SAS win tonight. GO HAWKS!!!
  8. I agree and it shouldn’t… but refs aren’t robots. Hopefully not every ref, but player reputations/actions do play a role in how games are called. Which is why Trae/Team needs to learn to be better at ref management (let the coaches handle them).
  9. Here are the refs for ATL vs GSW tonight! Includes their career team records when they ref either team (% rank vs other teams AND % rank vs other 76 refs for same team):Crew Chief: John Goble #10 - GSW 40-29 (6th | 25th), ATL 25-36 (26th | 54th)Ref: Rodney Mott #71 - GSW 60-52 (10th | 43rd), ATL 38-69 (28th | 68th)Umpire: Natalie Sago #9 - GSW 8-5 (20th | 67th), ATL 4-3 (12th | 13th) Based on these refs assigned, I predict a GSW win tonight. GO HAWKS!!!
  10. Refs scheduled for tonight's game and the career team records (with rankings based on career records of all teams they've reffed) when they are reffing during either a Hawks or TWolves game: Crew Chief: Scott Foster #48 - MIN (13th 52-49), ATL (14th 55-54) Ref: Mitchell Ervin #27 - MIN (24th 10-13), ATL (22nd 12-15) Umpire: C.J. Washington #12 - MIN (23rd 7-11), ATL (10th 14-11) I have the Hawks getting their 6th straight win against the TWolves tonight! However, with these assigned refs and the issue Hawks have when the other team has starters out, there's a 24% chance that an upset occurs tonight. GO HAWKS!!!
  11. Just putting this here. This isn't the only reason, but to put this into perspective, we had 2 refs tonight that historically are biased towards Boston and against Hawks. For their careers, when: Nick Buchart refs, BOS wins 72.7% of the time (highest W/L% [by 7.3%] than all team's he's reffed) and ATL wins 42.5% of the time (24th highest W/L% of teams he's reffed). Matt Myers refs, BOS wins 73.3% of the time (5th highest W/L% of all teams he's reffed) and ATL wins 22.2% of the time (27th highest W/L% of teams he's reffed). One of these guys would've been tough to deal with, but having both of them reffing this game was writing on the wall.
  12. Refs scheduled for tonight's game and the career team records when they are reffing during either a Hawks or Celtics game: Crew Chief: Sean Wright #4 - BOS (38-39), ATL (38-36) Ref: Nick Buchart #3 - BOS (32-12), ATL (17-23) Umpire: Matt Myers #43 - BOS (11-4), ATL (4-14) GO HAWKS!!!
  13. All for this! I'm also completely on board with AI refs replacing human refs in the future, but only if (pipe dream): Biased-parties (anyone financially tied to the league or its games [including the association]) do not control the AI and it is managed/monitored by a non-partisan 3rd party. AI performances/settings are recorded and transparent to the public (like settings in a video game). For example, fans/players will know how much contact would be allowed before a foul is called. AI ref calls are universal across all teams/games/players. Allow for true superstars to shine. Surely refs would use AI as a tool at first. However I believe as AI gets smarter/more accurate, it'll quickly highlight how poorly refs call games and AI refs will be welcomed with open arms to all that value the NBA as a sport and not as entertainment. Unfortunately, as long as the NBA can ride the entertainment cash cow (money is king), they likely won't allow the game to be pure until the product is so far degraded that fans have lost all trust/interest in it and all financially-beneficial parties start to see a negative impact in their profit margins. As a side note, basketball is my favorite sport and I love the NBA, but I hate its current product. Do you think more or less fans across the league would watch/enjoy games that were called more fairly? I know I'd certainly watch/enjoy more.
  14. It's important to note that unless you are in the locker room (I am not), this is all speculation. Regardless of other issues/injuries that occurred after ECF run (which I agree do contribute to those season records), I still believe that Nate's system and player development was worse than LP's and LP's motivation was worse than Nate's (thus possibly help balance out the records). Sadly, a coach's motivation is fleeting based on factors such as respect, trust, and results. No results can lead to no trust can lead to no respect can lead to no motivation. There are so many factors to take into account when trying to compare one season to another, but I agree with @JayBirdHawk that the offense after the ECF run got worse for this teams makeup that thrived in a fast paced system with efficient 3's and shots at the rim. The eye test confirms this. Nate's system (like JC said) would be a better fit for a more veteran group, which is not us. If we can get Quin on board, I think his system and motivation (if team buys in) is going to have us perform at a much higher level than what Lloyd or Nate were able to accomplish. YES! LET'S GET IT DONE!!!
  15. Correct! I oversimplified and this is a much better summary of Chandler's statement. Listening to these talking heads is quite numbing haha! Hate that I gave it a click.
  16. In summary, Chandler said Pierce firing wasn't Trae's fault (he was the worst coach he's ever played for), but it's Trae's fault for Nate getting fired and he knows better than everyone else because he played here. The fact is, Chandler wasn't here when Nate was coaching with the Hawks and can only go off Nate's reputation (as a coach with more wins than losses). However, for him to say it's Trae's fault (like the other talking heads) is absurd because it's only speculation unless you're in that locker room. It's easy to jump on the bandwagon and say Trae is a coach killer, and it's fair to say that he could use some maturing (who couldn't at 24 years old), but the fact of the matter is... Trae is a star and wants to win. The year we went to the ECF wasn't because of Nate, but because of Lloyd's system (fast paced with lots of efficient 3's and shots at rim) and Nate's coaching (team motivation/trust). This was a winning mix and it produced results. When Nate fazed out Lloyd's system, we started to see why he didn't work in Indiana (old school framework with dated tactics). Based on what I've seen with Trae's growth on defense this season, I think Trae is ready to do whatever it takes to win. If Snyder comes in and is able to coach like he did in Utah (passionate, tireless work ethic, attention to detail, open communication, teamwork) and the players buy into his coaching, we're gonna be in for quite a treat!
  17. Actually... there is some evidence. This isn't a smoking gun, but troublesome even if there's a grain of truth to this. https://www.si.com/nba/hawks/news/former-nba-players-slam-nate-mcmillan Here's a snippet from the SI article about what Matt Barnes and Jelani McCoy talked about in regards to Nate McMillan. If this is the case (I hope not), I can definitely see Nate giving the Hawks no backup option and going down with the ship. I'd be curious to know how the current situation compares to when he left his other Teams?
  18. Trade hasn’t been finalized yet (all teams must sign off). Since GPII failed his physical, GS has the ability to cancel the entire deal by Sunday evening. This means Bey is technically still a Piston and will not be able to play for us until GS waives the failed physical. Financially, it makes sense for GS to sign off on the deal (I think it saves them ~$100m in tax) and take it up with the NBA for POR to be fined. Them waiting to decide doesn’t hurt them anyway (GPII can’t play) so they are likely looking at all options, but at the expense of other teams in the deal. The questions I have are: 1. How did the GS deadline move from today to tomorrow (was it reported wrong initially)? 2. How does this affect FO relationships between these teams the longer this limbo lasts?
  19. 2014-15 Hawks were just fun to watch with how well they moved the ball. However, it's important to remember that that team didn't have an alpha that you could trust to take that last shot, which is why they had to move the ball to be effective. We have 2 (count em 2) alpha playmakers with elite mid range games that setup quality passes for others that often end up as assists. So far this year, both Trae and Murray are both in the Top 10 in assist points created (22.2 & 19.8), and are 1 & 2 in assist-to-pass percentage for players playing 10+ min (22.3% & 18.1%). Yes, moving the ball can help generate better offensive efficiency, but when you have 2 alpha players that initiate the offense and are able to generate either a quality shot attempt or assist, the number of passes become less important. I'm sure they're still working on chemistry and adjustments will be made, but once Trae's shot starts to fall again, we might be looking at one of the most efficient playmaking backcourts the NBA has ever seen. Reminds me a lot of the 2017-18 Harden/Paul Rockets.
  20. We’re gonna regret not taking Tari Eason.
  21. Just putting this here. I get it's exhibition so take this with a grain of salt. But this breaks down how many minutes Team Durant players played with Trae Young during the All Star Game. He represented ATL well and deserves so much more respect from stans, his peers, the media, and association. SUPERSTAR!
  22. Eason has been near the top of my very short list so far in this year’s draft due to his fit with Trae. I see him best as a wing, but he’ll need transition/development time like Hunter did. He’s a high usage player when LSU’s dealt with injuries and has shown ability to be an attacking shot creator (he’s creative), but polish is necessary to become less predictable (no left hand, use more passing vision, etc). His defensive awareness and communication have potential to be special. What sold me on him is his energy, physicality, and fearlessness (very enforcer like). If we draft Eason and get a more offensive minded Center, watch out!
  23. Pretty good haul for Indiana! Let the blowup commence! This is a good trade for both sides.
