So small. Easy block.

Braden Smith is such a weak ball handler bringing the ball up. He takes way too long getting Purdue into their sets. His shooting is saving him right now.

Goodness, we can't afford Edey to be out the game for 20 seconds
This is what I've been saying. They don't even make the tourney without him. They are that small.

Maybe too impressive for the Hawks.
I've been thinking about this. Deeper they go in the tourney, more likely a scrub team takes a chance...if nothing else to sell tickets and jerseys.

My take on tonight's game.
It won't cone down to the 2 bigs. It will come down to guard play. I am less impressed with Purdue's guards. Edey inflates their stats with kick outs and easy assist baskets. Specifically their point guard has been trapped in 2 straight games by only 1 defender. He's turning man defense into a trap all on his own. You can survive that vs NC state but not against UCONN.
UCONN's guards live off movement and second chance points, but they haven't played many team defenses where the guards don't have to double Clingan and where the whole team rebounds. UCONN'S guards committing to helping rebound the basketball is key to their winning.
Don't be fooled. Tonight is all about guard play.

He seems to get the ball and gather every time before going into his drop and shot. I can invision a lot of steals if he takes that much time in the NBA.
Needs to catch and go. Or catch and send it outside. Quick decisions are going to be his friend because it takes a sec to get his big body going.
A great article on Zach Edey and foul fairness. Please read the whole.thing before commenting.

There is more space in the NBA and better guard play. You have to pick and choose on dig downs. Collapsing on a big like that leads to open 3s.

For those who believe, no proof is necessary.
For those who don't believe, no proof is enough.

I’m sold on Edey ….some of his turnovers were not his fault ! You can’t throw it to a 7’4 dudes feet.
I'm watching a lot of "not a foul in college" that will get called in the NBA. Edey will face better post defenders in the NBA but he'll have to put up with less BS no calls.

I think this is going to be a 15+ point blowout.
For reference.

20/10 and not a great game.

NC State has closed the gap by taking advantage of Eddy’s lack of ability to close out on shooters.
Braves game will be starting soon though, thankfully. This is a boring ass game.
27 points under 1 minute to go in the half...not a whole lot of exposing going on man.

I thinks Burns is going to out leverage Edey today and really bother him. I think Edey has another volume stats game potentially but he looks really bad in his matchup overall.
I think this is going to be a 15+ point blowout.

Show me an example of Edey in the pick and roll where he isn’t just rolling to post up. Show me an example where he is catching and scoring on the move and not rolling to just establish position in the post.
Try YouTube! Then you'll actually see some film on him.

Clint on offense. Post player with average conversion rate, no shot outside 5 feet. Sets picks, rolls to the basket comes out for handoffs to move the basketball at the top of the key. Clogs the lane, mishandles passes constantly. Weighs around 255 lbs. Superior offensive rebounder due to effort and living around the basket. Makes $24 mil/yr.
Edey on offense. Post player with superior conversion rate. Good hands and ability to pass out of the post. Sets picks and rolls to the basket. Unknown shooting ability. Comes out for handoffs and is an able passer from the top. Capable hands, holds ball high. Average to good ability to see the floor. Weighs 300lbs. Superior offensive rebounder due to size, commitment to boxing out and living near the basket. Rookie contract will be around $5mil/yr for 4 years.
Analysis - Edey should have a slightly better offensive impact than Capela almost immediately.
Defensively.
Clint better the farther from the basket you get. Edey better guarding bigs in the post and altering shots by drivers/slashers who have beat their man. Clint better at guarding 3 point shooters and stopping guards on the switch. Edey (drop coverage) better at stopping the lob/slash/dish.
Analysis: Both have flaws. Clint struggles against large bigs. Edey will struggle to stop good shooters who pull up or toss floaters.

When Edey becomes a 20/10 guy in the NBA, a lot of people will rightfully eat crow and say they were wrong.
It won't however stop them from being loud and wrong on the next guy.

Bruno has played well lately, but he was due for a stinker. Tonight has not been his night. Matthews and Vit playing a bit lazy too.

This is looking like a Trap Game!
Get it together guys.
2-12 from 3
That 3 possession series by Jalen just changed the game. 2 baskets out of it, but should have been 3.

They fooled around in that 1st quarter and found out that you can't look past any team in the NBA.

Playing defense makes you so much more consistent!
A little loose with the ball but effort looks good.

Settled in, hoping we don't look past these guys.

I kinda want to draft Edey just so we can be the most hated team in the NBA.... even by our own fans....
Best comment of the entire thread (barring my own)!

Zach Edey Conundrum - Could Edey be the next great Atlanta Hawk or is he the next Cam Reddish

Into 2 men. Either could have stolen that.
