  1. The most significant move for the Hawks was the hiring of Bud. Hiring Bud has killed acquiring Dwight and Chris Paul. Neither will come to Atlanta with this rookie coach Had we hired McMillian or SVG or Doc or Hollins or maybe even keeping Drew, we would have a chance. Had we selected Mo Cheeks, George Karl or JVG we would have had a chance. Even Kidd we had a chance. They will not come for Bud and Snyder. forgetaboutit. It will be a slow build and many will wish Bud was still be in SA.

  2. The 92.9 move is very good. It is easy to find (old QXIE spot) and the signal will cover 7 million listeners around. It was needed. With near total control and money he has the power to make us contenders. He just only have 5 years cause he will be spending a lot.

  3. Al can nail that 18ft jumper. He is great in transition and when matched against a smaller or slow-footed player he can out maneuver. But he is limited as a post player because of under-developed footwork and relatively short arms. He will thrive as PnP PF. In the post he better be more Moses and Karl and eat the glass to get to the line.

  4. Doc took a nothing team in Orlando to the playoffs and a 50% win% when people first asked could he coach. I'm not bitter... I'm welcoming to Bud. But bottom line, what you said is right, Bud hasn't coached or made 1 decision. Yet we've labeled him as a culture changer, a winner, better than his predecessors etc.. Slow your roll. He hasn't done anything yet. He could be Red Auerbach or he could be Lon Kruger. We don't know.

We do know Doc. We do know Lionel Hollins. What coach('s) have done the most with the least? What coach do players want to play for? I believe Drew did exceptionally well here. I think Randy Wittman has done well. I believe Nate McMillian has the experience and right relationships to bring players.

And by the way, outside of winning what does this "change the culture" mean?

  5. No you can't.

If the Hawks keep Smith's cap hold / Bird's Rights then there is not enough room under the cap to sign both Paul and Howard. The only way to afford them both is to renounce Smith's cap hold which eliminates the Hawks Bird's Rights for Smith. We have been over this like a gazillion times guys.

I wish that dummy at 92.9 The Fan would quit spreading bogus info and attaching Coon's name to it. I have heard him say several times that "According to Coon the Hawks can sign Paul, Howard, and Josh Smith !" Then he takes calls on his fantasy on the false premise that Coon really said that.

What a joke ! Don't buy into that dummy. He has no clue.

What is Josh Smith's cap hold (number)?

  6. He is two years older than Josh and out all season with a sore knee. I think we have to find someone young and dependable to build around. He'd be a great addition but we'd still need a lot more i think.

Past this season, Josh would be costly. To reinvest into Josh vs an able Granger is the matter. We without a doubt still need to get a center and Dwight may indeed be had. We have picks coming and moving now expediates the tank.

  7. we can't afford all of those players! LOL!

Retaining Teague, DeShawn, Ivan and Mike Scott, along with Al, Lou and JJ we are at 26.3 mil. soft cap will be around 60 mil., luxury tax at 71 mil.(at least). This leaves 44 million to spend. We may be able to get Dwight, Josh, Zaza and Allen for 41 mil.(19,14, 4,4) and fill the roster with vetmins (3 players 3 mil.). One of the 4 is rookie scale. DeShawn is a team option and his numbers could be vetmin if he accepts it. That takes the 26.3 down to 25 mil pushing the spendable to 45.3. making 3 players for 4.3 mil to spend. Then sign Korver for 2.5, 1st round rookie gets 1.5 and two vetmins or rooks and we are at or just above the LT. If we have a team of Teague/Lou/vetmin Allen/DeShawn/JJ Josh/Korver/vetmin Al/Ivan/Scott Dwight/Zaza Philips is filled and LT is not a matter.
