Joe came for the money and so did Deke. Neither one of them said I want to come to Atlanta for any reasons other than money, for which Atlanta was offering more than anyone else, and having some level of interest in playing for the Hawks.
Maybe not, Deke still lives here.
-
The most significant move for the Hawks was the hiring of Bud. Hiring Bud has killed acquiring Dwight and Chris Paul. Neither will come to Atlanta with this rookie coach Had we hired McMillian or SVG or Doc or Hollins or maybe even keeping Drew, we would have a chance. Had we selected Mo Cheeks, George Karl or JVG we would have had a chance. Even Kidd we had a chance. They will not come for Bud and Snyder. forgetaboutit. It will be a slow build and many will wish Bud was still be in SA.

The 92.9 move is very good. It is easy to find (old QXIE spot) and the signal will cover 7 million listeners around. It was needed. With near total control and money he has the power to make us contenders. He just only have 5 years cause he will be spending a lot.

Al can nail that 18ft jumper. He is great in transition and when matched against a smaller or slow-footed player he can out maneuver. But he is limited as a post player because of under-developed footwork and relatively short arms. He will thrive as PnP PF. In the post he better be more Moses and Karl and eat the glass to get to the line.

Doc took a nothing team in Orlando to the playoffs and a 50% win% when people first asked could he coach. I'm not bitter... I'm welcoming to Bud. But bottom line, what you said is right, Bud hasn't coached or made 1 decision. Yet we've labeled him as a culture changer, a winner, better than his predecessors etc.. Slow your roll. He hasn't done anything yet. He could be Red Auerbach or he could be Lon Kruger. We don't know.
We do know Doc. We do know Lionel Hollins. What coach('s) have done the most with the least? What coach do players want to play for? I believe Drew did exceptionally well here. I think Randy Wittman has done well. I believe Nate McMillian has the experience and right relationships to bring players.
And by the way, outside of winning what does this "change the culture" mean?

I think we missed with Bud.

Surprising that he made the jump like that. I'm sure he spent all last season in NY thinking if Woodson can do this, surely I can do it too.
where is that thought from. Woody was accomplished

This isn't official. Although it seems like it will be soon.
I've been told it indeed will be, but not yet official. I jumped the gun then called to ask if it is official.

You can't go into the tax or cap to sign other teams free agents.
I swear you can spoon people all day and Free agent still goes right over their head.
overhead? Dwight and Chris sign with 15 in the first year. 7-10 is left to sign 2 guys and resign 6 of our own, Kyle, Josh, Ivan, Zaza, Teague and Scott. How is that professor?
-
The LT doesn't matter. To sign players who don't play for the Hawks, we have to do it under the salary cap and then to say them we have to renonce Smith.
So you are saying we can go over the sc into LT land to sign guys that played for us? Ah, like Zaza, Kyle, Harris and Josh after others are signed?
-
OK - so even if we have to move Lou....
You don't move Lou. denounce Teague and Scott. I believe Stern will increase the SC as his parting gift.
-
Nope. Even if Josh only signs for $10 mill per year that only leaves around $25 mill of cap space under the projected $58 mill salary cap..
No way Howard and Paul take $12.5 mill each as their starting annual salary.
Gearon has said he can go into the LT.
-
We would have no money for our bench. So it couldn't happen.
Gearon was willing to go into the LT for LaBron, I believe he would for D12,CP3,Josh and Al.

No you can't.
If the Hawks keep Smith's cap hold / Bird's Rights then there is not enough room under the cap to sign both Paul and Howard. The only way to afford them both is to renounce Smith's cap hold which eliminates the Hawks Bird's Rights for Smith. We have been over this like a gazillion times guys.
I wish that dummy at 92.9 The Fan would quit spreading bogus info and attaching Coon's name to it. I have heard him say several times that "According to Coon the Hawks can sign Paul, Howard, and Josh Smith !" Then he takes calls on his fantasy on the false premise that Coon really said that.
What a joke ! Don't buy into that dummy. He has no clue.
What is Josh Smith's cap hold (number)?

I don't think Josh is signed unless he delivers Dwight and it would .be 4yrs/48 mil. Teague you know is to be offered. This year before next season when he is a UFA
-
He is two years older than Josh and out all season with a sore knee. I think we have to find someone young and dependable to build around. He'd be a great addition but we'd still need a lot more i think.
Past this season, Josh would be costly. To reinvest into Josh vs an able Granger is the matter. We without a doubt still need to get a center and Dwight may indeed be had. We have picks coming and moving now expediates the tank.
-
This is for Indy to stewp up their playoff climb to the Finals? Well it may only be noise but I'd do it. With Granger out for quite a time I'd get free of Josh and build around Al, Danny and Lou.
-
Hawks need to send someone over there and find out if the guy is nuts or just want to get out of cattle land.

Retaining Teague, DeShawn, Ivan and Mike Scott, along with Al, Lou and JJ we are at 26.3 mil. soft cap will be around 60 mil., luxury tax at 71 mil.(at least). This leaves 44 million to spend. We may be able to get Dwight, Josh, Zaza and Allen for 41 mil.(19,14, 4,4) and fill the roster with vetmins (3 players 3 mil.). One of the 4 is rookie scale. DeShawn is a team option and his numbers could be vetmin if he accepts it. That takes the 26.3 down to 25 mil pushing the spendable to 45.3. making 3 players for 4.3 mil to spend. Then sign Korver for 2.5, 1st round rookie gets 1.5 and two vetmins or rooks and we are at or just above the LT. If we have a team of Teague/Lou/vetmin Allen/DeShawn/JJ Josh/Korver/vetmin Al/Ivan/Scott Dwight/Zaza Philips is filled and LT is not a matter.we can't afford all of those players! LOL!

Why would Dwight and Chris play for a rookie coach? D12 would SnT with Brooklyn, sign with Dallas, sign with Houston (McHale), but Bud? Chris will have LA and Hollins, Doc or the Knicks for an amnestied Stoudemire.
