It isn't a head coaching job but former Atlanta Hawks coach is back in the NBA joining Mike D'Antoni's staff in New York as his defensive assistant. Woodson had been in the running for the head coaching job in Detroit before losing out to Lawrence Frank

Woodson oversaw the rebuild of the Atlanta Hawks as the team improved for six straight seasons under his watch. The Hawks won just 13 games in Woodson's first season in 2004 and topped out at 53 wins during his final season. Despite coming to Atlanta with a defensive reputation, Woodson's Hawks teams were middle of the pack defensively. As far as defense goes in Atlanta, Woodson is remembered for his teams reliance on switching every screen on defense in an effort to keep their man in front of them.

Woodson inherits a Knicks team that resembles his Atlanta clubs in the fact that they have no clear cut choice as a big man. Will be interesting to see what kind of strategy Woodson employs with the Knicks or if they simply become predictable on the defensive end of the floor.
