Al Horford scored 23 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Dominican Republic past Uruguay in the second round of the FIBA Americas Championship tournament. The Dominicans used a strong fourth quarter and some clutch free throw shooting to turn back a competitive Uruguay squad by a final score of 84-76.

Horford's scored his 23 points on 7 of 11 shooting from the field and 9 of 10 shooting from the free throw line. He added five assists and two steals to go along with his 14 rebounds in what might have been his best performance of the tournament. Francisco Garcia and Charlie Villanueva chipped in 12 and 11 points respectively. Jack Michael Martinez continued his strong tournament with eight points and 13 rebounds for the Dominican Republic

Martin Osimani led the way for Uruguay with 22 points and six assists. Reque Newsome added 13 points and seven rebounds while Leandro Garcia Morales chipped in 11 points. Former Atlanta Hawks big man Esteban Batista finished with 11 points and seven rebounds in 34 minutes of action.

The schedule starts to get tougher tomorrow for the Dominican Republic when they play Puerto Rico in a crucial match up. Tip off for that game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN3.com.
