he doesnt look any slower than anyone else his size in the league (shaquille)...we just need someone who can come in and play hard with that size to keep the big folk out of the lane.
Sounds like the logic when we signed Randolf Morris.

I like what I see from Cenk Akyol.
Kong Siler is still taking over the paint
Did team White win most of the games? I wonder did they take scores of the players.
You are comparing Siler agianst the Morris and a bunch of other nobody's. Come on. Siler looks slow to me, even against Morris, and the other stiffs.

It has only been two games but Ty Lawson has been downright HORRIBLE in summer league so far. He has gone 1-15 from the field in his first 2 games shooting an unbelievably bad .067%. To make matters worse, he only has one more assist than turnover (7-6). At least he is making his FTs. Considering how many of us on the board wanted him over Teague, I find this very interesting. If Teague had started off this bad, I can only imagine what the folks on this board would be saying.

Imagine how awful he would be with Woody as his coach! Thanks goodness he isn't a hawk.

Hawks hunting veteran bigs. Heard two names last night. Can't repeat yet. Either one helps solve the bird's big man issues, if they get 'em.21 minutes ago from web

I dont know much about dude, but why not take a risk of getting him he's not going to be any worse than morris. An he could be just as good as solo or better. What I do like about dude is that he has a great Size. I mean 6'11 305 pounds! It aint gon get no bigger than that unless you shaq! Anyways I hope this guy does a great job when he comes to visit us. He would give us some good size comin off the bench and I dont think he's soft in the paint judging by what I read from other, he will be able to bang in the post for sure. If you have any info on Mr. Garret Siler, please let me know!

http://www.nbadraft.net/players/garret-siler
"Siler is incredibly strong, has great hands, and establishes position in the paint against players of this caliber with the greatest of ease, barely needing to jump in order to dunk the ball because of how long his arms are. Combine those things together, and it becomes pretty obvious why he shoots such a high percentage from the field. He doesnt have great footwork or fundamentals in the paint if forced to execute any type of advanced moves, but he manages to get to the free throw line a fair amount regardless, where he shoots a decent 66% despite his awkward mechanics."
You are asking if this guy can be as good as Randolf Morris? So you are asking if this guy can suck? Yep, I bet he will suck. I bet he already sucks.

I know it sounds far fetched but this is coming out of Paul's own mouth. Not some writer from the NY Post. Paul does not sound to happy or optimistic about his current situation. Could he eventually demand a trade ?
I'd give up JJ's expiring contract in a hearbeat for Paul if they need to make a financial move. If they would rather have some young talent......well we got plenty of that too.
Think about it. If they go and dump West or Chandler's salaries, Paul sounds like he would get even more bitter about the Hornet's ownership situation. A trade demand could happen if Paul feels the owner is throwing in the towel.
On top of that the Hornets just a used their first round pick on a PG. Paul only sits for 8 minuts a game and they draft a PG in the 1st round ? They needed a starter at the SG or SFposition who could walk in and get 30 minutes a night....yet they draft a PG ? Things are not smelling right in Hornets land.
No story here, just a writer needing something to write. Of course anything is possible. What player when asked would say it's not possible that he be traded. Paul was just giving the politically correct response.

He could be an interesting PF for us. Scores at tremendous clip considering the limited minutes he's been given over the years and rebounds well.
Has a career Per36 of 17.7ppg and 8.9rebounds to go along with 1.0blks.
Is 6'8" 255lbs but has both a wingspan and standing reach longer and taller than Al's to go along with his strength and girth allowing him to see spot duty at C. Not known for his defense but given his length could be adequate at it. All in all could be a cheap capable sub for us to go along with a banger such as Magliore to shore up our bench with those veteran bigs Woody keeps going on about.
Me Likey!

The Hawks have traded 2002 second round pick David Andersen to the Houston Rockets for a future 2nd, cash and other considerations.

more to come later
Crap, that is like having a christmas present sitting under the tree for a month and then before you get to open it, your mom gives it to your neighbor. Might have been something good but after waiting all that time it would be at least nice to see for yourself.

Is there anything more painful to watch than the Home Run Derby with Berman doing his back, back, back. Maybe I am just getting to old and cynical but unless you are 8 years old who really gives a crap about these guys hitting ball from their pictching coaches? Just makes me think about the steroids and how much smaller the players are getting.

When I think about it Solomon offers more than a lot of big stiffs that I am hearing floated around like Theo Ratliff, who I can't believe is still playing.
Maybe we should sign Solomon and give him some minutes. He was fairly productive in the playoffs when given a chance. He is much further along that Randolf Morris.
Solomon is still young, maybe he has some upside?
But I am impresses with this roster. Adding Teague, Crawford and Keeping Bibby and Zaza. Very nice.

+1 for Sund... Very reasonable contract.
I wonder if we could have paid him a little more if we might get him to play some defense? Probaby not but considering the defensive deficiencies I think it's not a terrible deal. Think he will be playing in 3 years or looking like Speedy Claxton on the end of the bench?

Amazing how long these bid stiffs can hang around. I thought he retired years ago.

You deserve to be a permanent WNBA member after that Jackoff post!

Now these guys could probably come cheap and obviously wont start many games for you, but they could give some energy and size off the bench.
Jeff Foster
Josh McRoberts
Mark Blount
Nick Collison
Kyrylo Fesenko
Aaron Gray
Pops Mensah-Bonsu
Darko Milicic
My first choice would be David Anderson if we could but I think a few of these guys are proven solid back up big man and a few others may just need a change of scenery or a chance to play more minutes. McRoberts really intigued me late in the season with his energy for Indiana. I have no idea if these guys are free agents or not though
This team signed Randolph Morris to a 2 year deal. And here we sit hoping they will sign a real player. Fat chance.

No!
Let me explain,
Perhaps I would strongly consider trading for Chandler if I was somehow convinced he was healthy. However, he never played more than 60 gms/yr. (+-) and he's such a risk as far as injuries are concerned.
Also, I think Marvin will realy become one of the better SF's in the NBA (call me crazy if you will!). I realy think he'll realize his potentials, and his steady progress year in and year out will surely continue (he's still a kid).
Zaza is a solid back-up, and at this moment that's what we need (size, strenght), plus another veteran big for the purpose of a deeper front-court rotation (to complement Smoove and Al).
P.S. I agree that a healthy Tyson would fit in well (athleticism, rebounding, shot-blocking), but the risk is just too great in my oppinion.
People will be saying Marvin is a kid and has potential until they wake up one day and he is 40 years old. Except for the fact that he has a bad back, he would be a mediocre player. Now I think he will begin playing less and less as his back hurts more and more.

Isn't this a guy we could really use. It is sounding like a lot of options for him are drying up. If I looked at our current unsigned and restricted free agents, Bibby, Williams, Childress, Zaza, and Murray, would Lee not be a better fit for us than any of them. A solid low post player?
I don't know how all the cap ramifications work but I would rather get Lee than any of the others. I guess the questions I would be ask is can't we trade Childress rights, renounce Zaza and sign Lee. Then resign Zaza. Not sure how Marvin fits into this but if I had to pick between Lee and Marvin I would take Lee.
Hawk88
-
Doesn't look like anybody wants to sign with the Hawks as a free agent, go figure.......
Just curious what you think our biggest deficiency is if you had to pick one.
-
We are over the cap when you account for cap holds. All we have is the MLE to offer other teams FA's if we want to keep the rights to our FAs like Bibby, ZaZa, Marvin, etc.
If we renounce the rights to ALL of our free agents then we have only have $12 mill in cap space. We could burn $7 mill on Gortat but then we would have only $5 mill and the MLE to fill out the roster since we could not go over the cap to sign other team's FA.
It can be done if we REALY want Gortat at all cost. It will cost us the rights to Marvin and Chillz (their cap holds are so high they would have to be renounced), and we definately lose at least one of Bibby and ZaZa.
I would prefer to try to offer him the MLE so we have the flexibility to sign our own free agents rather then puting all our eggs the Gortat's basket.
What about signing David Anderson? Where does he fit in?
-
He's not a weak spot. You're dead on. People tend to base the type of player by where he's picked. Since he was picked third, he's supposed to be the second coming of MJ. It's unfair and unreal expectations.
Father in Heaven I don't see how anybody can say Marvin is the best or 2nd best defensive player on the team. Granted there is not a lot of defense on this team but there is Josh Smith, Al Horford, Mo Evans. and Mario West. All these guys are better defenders than Marvin. Marvin is better than the rest because the rest are sub par defenders. The rest play no defense. But Marvin is a below average defender for a small forward. It is incredible how fast guys blow by Marvin.
And this is the 1st year Marvin hit meaningful shots period. Before this year almost all his points came during garbage time. I want a very good to great player at small forward. and Marvin isn't it. As I said before the guy is a weak spot and needs to be moved for somebody better. Marvin is like Shareef Abdul Rahim. I don't think he will be a big winner because I just don't think he has the competitive killer instinct. I think Marvin is a nice kid. I want a cold blooded killer on the court ala Kobe, Lebron, Wade, Horford. They will cut your heart out if they get the chance. It will never ever happen with Marvin.
Hawk88
-
Wow if a team signed him to that they would be getting tremendous value for their buck. Considering that was his current deal under the rookie scale and he out performed that salary you would think he'd be worth closer to double that amount. But then again you are entitled to your opinion.
I just think we have passed on a lot better players because we HAVE Marvin, like Thaddeus Young. Marvin would be okay as a sub. As a starter he is a weak spot. My opinion of couse but I do watch the games and don't just go by the numbers. He really isn't as good as his numbers would suggest.

Marvin named ahead of Marion, Okur, Wallace,Kidd, Miller, Sessions, Iverson, Bibby, etc.
For those who think Marvin Williams has little value or a bad rep around the league (Diesel)..... Notice who he was named ahead of.
Maybe because you can get Marvin for cheap. He is a 4-5 mil a year talent, with an 8 foot ceiling. Marvin sucks and if there is a team out there who hasn't figured it out we need to trade with them.

Just because the draft was thick in PG talent doesn't mean it was thick in star PG talent. Most of the guys taken in the first round will be career backups but good ones at that. Why not use your 1st round pick on a cheap backup PG with talent? It's not as if Paul or Deron can play 48minutes a night and it's not as if they blew a top ten pick on backup PG. Picks in the 20s usually only net you bench depth rather than surefire starters.
Agreed, take the talent when it's there before you are desperate for it.

Before draft night Chad Ford, and others, reported the Hawks may sale their draft pick and go into cost cutting mode so they could presumably resign Bibby.
Instead the Hawks became buyers again. The Hawks dealt Speedy Claxton and Acie Law for more money in 09-10 and an extra year in J. Crawford.
They also used the #19 pick on what most people think was the best player left on the board in J. Teague to prove Chad Ford wrong yet again.
Props to the Sund, and the ASG, for giving him the financial freedom to make the moves a reality.
I only hope I do not have to tke back this post 2 months from now after free agency.
I agree. Two very smart moves that will cost them a little but have upside. Crawford's contract was basically given to Atlanta. And Teague, well I think he is going to be good. But I like that they didn't try to solve everything on draft night but they tried to improve where they could.
Hawk88

Since the draft I have seen a lot of comments from the media about Teague needing to get stronger, as if lack of strength is a major problem. However looking at the combine numbers i am not seeing it.
Looking at all the pgs who attended the NBA combine only two beat Teague in the bench press. he benched 185 pounds 13 times. Only Lawson with 14 and Douglas with 15 beat him.
This is even more impressive when you consider that he has a 6'7.5" wingspan. Obviously the longer your arms the harder each rep is on the bench.
Also 175 pounds isn't that light for a young guy that measured 6'.25" barefoot.
13 reps when you only weight 175 with those long arms is actually very impressive. Teague is going to be a good fit I think with his incredible quickness. I think he will start this season if Joe can play small forward with Crawford as SG.

Siler is guarding Morris in a lot of the videos. You can't tell anything positive from that. It's like watching somebody guard an oak tree.
