I am not sure why most are so scared of Millsap at SF? I don't see how it would be a big issue on either end of the court.
-
OK, Ok, ok....here is my thinking if we get Bynum. In the past we had dumb ole Woody who just preached defense and that was it. Then we had LD who seemed to be a little smarter - but hardly ever changed the starting lineup unless somebody was in the doghouse.
NOW (hopefully) we have a smarter coach who can react to matchups. We would also have a pretty veteran team who could understand his logic. So he says to Milsap (who is well paid) - some nights you start - some nights you come off the bench.
I think if we get a center worth starting that Millsap will start at SF. Just hard to imagine that dude agreeing to take less money AND come off the bench, while stating how ATL is a great opportunity to "grow his game."
-
Not even close.
I didn't think so, thought maybe he new something that I didn't.
-
C - Bynum
PF - Horford
SF - Korver
SG - Monta
PG - Teague
is the lineup I want. IDK why peeps keep putting Monta at point... He isn't a PG.
Can we afford Monta, Teague and Bynum?

Ever time someone puts Millsap at sf I figure they must be joking. Next joke, Serg ibaka sf
Its amazing that Millsap would agree to 9.5 mil AND agree to come off of the bench, in the prime of his career. Danny must be a smooth talker.

#2 in FAs left at cnnsi ahead of jennings and ellis

It's amazing, just a threat of a player leaving ATL causes the media to suddenly like the player.

When a guy shoots 39% yes there is quite a huge hole in his game to fix.My guess between Jennings and Teague is that Ferry sees the lack of killer instinct and professionalism in Teague like I do. From the lazy D on PnR plays to the missed layup in the skills competition and finally that shove of Paul George in the way to the bench. He's just got too much growing up to do. Jennings will at least be a little more serious about things and I see that as an important trait to Danny.
Amazing that Teague has growing up to do and Brandon is younger. I don't think Brandon has reached his potential and he has Type A killer instinct, which has been lacking in ATL for quite awhile. I also think this would be an opportunity to get Dalembert to start next to AL. Then in two years if BeBe or Muscala can't start, the 2015 Center FA class is a good one.
-
I think number 4 is a key issue. I think Ferry wants to reload every couple of years and he figures that sooner or later he will strike big with a FA. My belief is that Ferry see's most of these players as hard workers, but expendable in the grand scheme of things. That's partly why you see so many guys with short contracts. He wants to promote a Spurs brand of basketball, but there is no Duncan to play along side and right now that's what star players want. They want to play along side other star players.
This is pretty much it. I think Ferry is smarter than Billy Knight, but ultimately his downfall will probably not be overly different.
This is correct, Ferry wants to be a player in Free Agency every couple of years, in attempt to lure stars, while remaining competitive. I think it is a good move, if you pay attention, championships these days are being bought in FAgency, not drafted. Not many high draft picks have LED the team that drafted them to a championship in recent years.

This.......just b/c some writer says Milsap can play SF doesn't make it true. I would hate to see him more then 5 mpg at SF.
I'm betting that he can play SF. I didn't realize he could handle the ball as well as he can. I knew he had a decent mid range jump shot and post game, be he can handle the ball as well.

The Spurs were a good team that lost a player -- that is NOT tanking. They were already an almost-complete package and Duncan put them over the top.
The Bulls/Pistons were pre-lottery -- back when tanking worked. Now, far too many things have to go right for tanking to work, which is why it no longer works.
Heat? Maybe. I guess you found the one outlier that makes tanking a winning strategy.
And Wade? He wouldn't have won a championship without Shaq and Lebron. How many future HOFs are coming to Atlanta?
-
Spurs drafted Tim Duncan. Hawks can draft Jabari Parker or Wiggins and become our franchise player. So you would rather panic and sign Josh Smith or Monta Ellis for a 6th seed or worse this season? Some of you will be very upset.
You are correct no need to panic, but in today's NBA, Parker or Wiggins are more likely to pull a Lebron and bolt than lead ATL to a championship. You can't think getting a top three pick is the fix, it may be, but more likely it isn't.

Lol and you guys want this clown? Why?
People think he would be different in ATL. He's a big grown ass teenager, glad he didn't choose ATL.

I've seen a lot of you jump on the "time to rebuild" bandwagon, but what if the rebuild completely fails. What if our draft picks this year really suck and are not nba quality players (very possible). What if we again choose marvin williams (a can't miss draft pick) over chris paul and deron williams. What if its 3 years from now and we're coming off our third 20 win season in a row. What if 3 years from now, its been 3 years since we had a nationally televised game. What if 3 years from now, we've had the lowest attendance in the league for 3 years straight. What if 3 years from now, we are now the franchise being whispered about when it comes to franchise relocation. We barely supported a winning team. Now we are somehow expected to support a losing team. Just think about it. If we rebuild, it will more than likely be the 2016-2017 season before the hawks are remotely relevant again. I'm just saying. I've been a hawks fan since 88, through the thick and thin. But I've truly enjoyed this last run of winning seasons more than any other time. If I was 21 again, the rebuild would probably be exciting to me. But being older, I now have no time for foolishness. Hope you guys know what you are really asking for, the consequences, and I hope DF and the owners know what they're doing. Man this could be a disaster
I don't think this ownership could survive that. So, if that happens, we would probably see new Ownership, new Management, Coach.

Asik fits the Spurs mold of player to a T so not sure what that ass clown Aldridge is talking about.
I won't forget seeing Asik punk Horford and the Hawks front line in Chicago and in Houston. Been wanting to get him for 2 years now.
I don't get it; most would have loved Asik, if Dwight had never become a FA. How long have we been looking for a 7 foot center that can rebound, people act like Centers are readily available.

Please no Lin. Please.
-
In the end the Rockets have a western conference team and the Hawks get a role player and an over hyped and overpaid PG.
I might be wrong and am certainly in the minority, but I am not sold on a team that has Josh and Dwight winning anything that matters.

I have no idea why folks dont like Asik next to Al. Seems like the feeling is only sign superstars to multi year deals, and fill the team with 1 year contracts until we stumble into a superstar.Danny please don't listen to these "fans" who don't understand how good Asik is defensively and on the glass and how he's a huge upgrade to Josh Smith.

Teague, Iggy, Horf, D12....
Is this the Big 4 that can win the East?
I think with that Big 4, it would depend heavily on what the bench looks like.

Another Hawk coach with no HC experience, great. Good luck Bud.

This organization is a freak show.

^ This. He's been to the NBA finals, which this franchise has never done. He took Miami to game 7 of the ECF the next year, which this franchise has also never done. Coached 2 all star games. How has LD done more with less? He has done less with less and even that is arguable. After going to LA, Dwight admitted that he was wrong about SVG and even alongside teammates far superior than any he ever had in Orlando with SVG, his team squeaked into the playoffs and was bounced easily in the first round. LD inherited a playoff team and has a worse career Win%. It's not even really debatable.
-
So many of us have been begging for a coach with successful head coaching experience, for a long time. After the Kruger experiment, we should have hired a vet head coach. SVG would be a nice change. What d12 thinks about SVG should have ZERO influence on whether or not we hire him. He is a great coach and probably the best coach we will have in a VERY long time. He will bring structure, discipline, and a great defensive mind.
-
I personally think we should go with a vet coach. Probably not as easy to get a vet like a Van Gundy to come here though.
I expect something out of left field like Quin Snyder.
Bynum, Horford, Milsap the BIG 3

Lack of 3, maybe, but quick SFs would have more problems with him than he would with them. And the 3 ball is not nearly as important when you can stop teams.
I am not saying he should start there, but just looking at his game, it doesn't seem like it would be the big deal most are making of it.
