Could this team beat the Heat and win a championship?
Teague/D Harris
Lou/Korver/Jenkins
Smith/1st round pick
Horford/Ivan/Scott
D Howard/ZZ/Petro
-
Yeah, changing the lineup and rotation would help. We tried putting our worst defenders on George, how about now putting our best.
Teague KK Ivan Smith Horford, with a rotation of Devin Deshawn Tolliver and Petro is our best chance.
If you are watching the game, tell me I'm right!

We need someone a lot better than Ivan to make up for 20 pt losses. Whether its Ivan, Stevenson, or even Josh on George, George will get his.
George only shot .420 from the field this season, but he avg almost 9 pts a game shooting FTs and 3s. Hill, Hibbert, and Green are also killing us. Hibbert is avg almost 4pts per game over his season avg while both Green and Hill are both getting 6pts per game more.
Right now it just looks like we are over-matched. Maybe that changes when we get home. The thing I have always noticed is most good coaches accept the fact that a opponents best scorer will usually get his, but what we can't let happen is to allow their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th options to also look like all stars.
Of course we are overmatched, but as a coach, you should still put the players you have in the best position to succeed and we don't do that. Thats why the Pacers look better than they are. Indiana scored 94.7 points per game in the regular season. They are not as good as they are playing and we are not as bad. We need better coaching and we can be more competitive, even with the injuries.
-
For all the hype George got in game one, he was 3 of 13 from the field and 0 for 5 from the 3pt line. 17 of 18 FT's made him look like AI or Kobe. Scorers get theirs. Put Ivan on him and Ivan would pick up three fouls before the midway point of the 2nd.
Guess what, Ivan was in Foul trouble anyway. Ivan would have better luck with George than Hibbert. Ivan in the starting lineup does a lot of things including giving us more rebounding, especially offensive.

We don't really have a chance. Best case scenario they win in 5. We can't win with a coach who goes 10-deep and uses a lineup of Harris-Stevenson-Jones-IVAN-Petro...
This team can be competitive with my suggested rotation and keeping three starters on the floor at all times. We can at least win a damn quarter. You can't tell me Indiana is this good. Putting Devin on Paul George is just stupid.
-
So Smoove can get in foul trouble?
He is in foul trouble anyway. At least this way Ivan and Josh can take turns defending and share some fouls. Do you realize that Devin started this game defending George? Having Josh/Ivan defend George/West is our only chance.
-
Korver needs to be moved to the 2 and Ivan needs to start at the 4, with Smoove at the 3. Thats our best chance. Then you have a bench of Devin, Deshawn, Petro, Tolliver. This is our best chance at winning a game with our injuries.

I'm a big Horford fan but he needs to perform better against Noah when they are matched up against each other. It seems Noah has gotten the better of him in their last few head to head matchups.
Actually, Horford usually gets the better of the match ups with Noah. It's obvious that Horford has a more complete game than Noah.

Looking at who's healthy we are in a bind. Hopefully Devin and Jenkins are back soon but with out them our regular rotation players are:
Horf
Josh/Ivan
Teague/Mack
Deshawn/Dahntay
Korver/Tolliver
Can the Hawks win a 1st round series when our only scoring threat on the wing is Korver?
Should Petro, Scott and Jenkins(when back) be getting more time so they are useful in the playoffs?
If Devin doesn't play, I think we get swept.
-
It was clear from the beginning he didn't want to be here. Moving from one of the best fan bases in sports with the bulls to one of the worst in sports in the Hawks was not easy. I've enjoyed having him on the team. If we make some big moves who knows. M
I don't think it has to do with the fan base at all. I think its the culture of this team. They don't play the right way and there is little accountability. When a coach basically says, I tell my guys what not to do and they do it anyway, thats not a great environment.
For Korver, its that this team does not always play the right way AND does not always play hard. The Bulls over achieve because they play the right way and hard all the time.

Man, I was about to post this, almost exactly. Glad its not just me that thinks LD blew this from jump.Drew irritates me to the core, with all of the lineup changes according to how WE match up with our opponent. Never do we stay with a consistent enough lineup to force opponents to match up with US. That's why this team goes through tremendous ebbs and flows. Drew "outthinks" himself. Starting Petro vs Hibbert, I can understand. Even with that move, you only keep Petro on him unless he is effective. IF he isn't, and you need a better defender or more firepower in the game, get him out of there. Starting Dahntay Jones . . . nah. Not against a balanced offensive team like the Pacers. At least Stevenson can give you some timely 3 point shooting while playing decent defense. With Dahntay, you're getting virtually no offense whatsoever. So Drew expected an unbalanced offense to be carried by Horford, Smith, and Teague . . with Petro and Jones playing "lockdown defense" to limit the production of Hibbert and George? But Drew blames "energy" as the reason why they lost? It must be nice to live in a world in which the coach bears no responsibility whatsoever for losses like these. Drew is definitely not the coach for a team like this. He's a big part of the reason why this team is so inconsistent.

Don't sell Petro short!
I hope you are right!

Hawks starters tonight per Rathbun's twitter:
Hawk starters at IND Teague Jones Smith Horford Petro
QFT
WTF? I hope Al takes all the first quarter shots.

Shelvin Mack is first out the limo!

Or the charge call against Teague that negated a three point play. No way that was a charge, the dude was actually turning his shoulder and was sideways when the contact occured. This was our make-up call from them missing the Amare flagrant and the foul on Josh against Melo.
-
Its not Smith's fault, we all know he is an idiot. It the fault if this lame duck coach. There should never be a game where Smith has as many 3 pt shot attempts as Korver. There is no accountability...none. Giving this dude max money would be much worst than Joe. It's sad, but, this is what he is, just not mature enough to be counted on to lead this team.

There is a great quote about coaching...A coach doesn't have to get his players to love and play for him, he has to get his players to love and play for each other.
Drew is a failure in that regard, he should never been hired, after Woodson, and should be fired immediately; it is apparent that he will not coach beyond this year.
Name an interim coach and begin to look for the most qualified coach you can convince to come to ATL.
It should be a coach that has head coaching experience and a proven track record. We have not had that since Lenny Wilkens.
That is all.
-
There should be a 9 man rotation for the next 20 games barring injury, severe foul trouble:ZZAlJoshKorverTeagueIvanLouDeshawnMorrow

Yep, it was the right call, and he did bump him, and he should be suspended. The league almost always screws the Hawks, so we will see. It was an obvious chest bump.
-
Yep, the same leap we have made plenty times before, 2nd round exit.
This team makes the same mistakes repeatedly, year to year.
No accountability on this team, none.
If I hear "we got too selfish out there" or "we need to share the ball" one more time I might lose it.

Seriously, we have not had a vet coach with a proven record since Lenny Wilkens.
This team is rarely as prepared as other good teams; we are wasting prime talent.
Any chance?

Ha! This vid made me feel uncomfortable..

There is some hope in improved scoring from our bench. Last year if Craw was off we basically had no scoring from the bench. ZZ on occasion.
Let's say we sign Stackhouse, but nobody else. (Cheap Bastards)
Kirk, T-Mac, Stack and Radman, give us 4 bodies that can score off our bench. Of course, they won't be consistent, but 4 scorers to rely on from the bench is better than 1.
This also puts more stress on teams' defense, when you have multiple bench guys that are capable of scoring.
Hey, a dude can hope, right?
When will we ever get a scorer at will?

You don't think Lou can do that?
