  5. http://clatl.com/atlanta/eno-by-zaza-becomes-5th-street-cafe-in-midtown/Content?oid=2010352 http://www.facebook.com/pages/Atlanta-GA/5th-Street-Cafe/109193969126018 I forgot to do my Buckhead Bottle Bar review back in June, so I'll do one of those when I get back. Got a chance to check out 5th St. last weekend, it's been reopened for a couple of weeks: * Interior is way nicer than the prior version (Eno), they could use a less diner-sounding name to attract people * Not sure how the "Bakery" will work on the side with the cafe's layout (where the winery used to be), didn't look like much * Decent service and waitstaff, a tad slow though, definitely an after-event place (not if you're dining and planning to get someplace else like the Fox on time) * Not a drinker, but the wine selection is significantly smaller; go to BBB if you're in it for the drinks * Menu doesn't always highlight the ingredients in what comes out (ex. "corn ravioli" had sausage, spinach, etc. -- not on the menu) * Appetizers, salads, soups are kind of bland and leave much to the imagination * Please, enough with the garlic fries as a compulsory side with EVERY entree! Felt like I'm getting supersized at McDonald's. If you're going to feature fries on your menu, they'd better be special (these certainly weren't) * No chance of avoiding high-carb entrees here. Trout was wrapped up in something like six slices of bacon. Go for broke with the filet instead and get the mac-and-cheese instead of the fries (sides are generally ample for sharing) * Probably worth waiting a bit to go while their chef (the ex-BluePointe guy) tweaks the menu... Between the two Zaza ventures, BBB has it together much better than this place so far ~lw3

  7. Well now that we know where Kat Stacks moved (ironically, the town where she received her last "slap"), we know why Atlanta is very much not on Melo's shortlist of preferred teams. As an aside, I'm guessing Lala was the Twitter "hacker." ~lw3
  8. Shame that the only slams he'll have in front of Dwight will be of the poetry variety. But it's all good... ~lw3
  9. How did Hunter used to say it... "Works for me." Adequate as a change-up for Zaza. Seems to be recovered from his heart ailment. He'll enjoy the poetry slam scene here if he doesn't already. ~lw3
  10. Here's Sam Amico's tweet from early this morning: ~lw3
  11. Before her passing, her "award" was scheduled to go to former WWE tag champ Lance Cade, who died a couple weeks ago of heart failure (possibly related to an addiction to painkiller medications) at age 29. ~lw3
  12. "Luna" was Gertrude Vachon, who made it all the way to the ripe age of 48. She had major roles in WWE and ECW (briefly WCW) although I don't believe she ever held any titles there. Prime-time angles involved her with Kevin Sullivan's "Army of Darkness," "Bam Bam Bigelow," "Goldust," Shawn Michaels, Tommy Dreamer, "Sensational Sherri," and perennial rival "MadUSA." Earlier this month, her house burned down with all her possessions and memorabilia in it. She died at her mother's home. No word on the cause of death yet. She was part of one of those infamous Canadian wrestling families. Butcher Vachon raised her and manged her in Japan; her initial trainers were her "aunts," "The Fabulous Moolah" and "Vivian"; and she was "godfathered" by "Andre the Giant." Formerly married (at different times) to both members of a tag team she managed, including the former "Gangrel" vampire guy. Prior to that she broke up with "Dirty d*ck Slater" until he became abusive (never a good idea to date somebody named "Dirty d*ck" -- he would later get jailed for stabbing another girlfriend). Also a former Playboy and Hustler model. Unlike many, she actually retired a few years ago and started working for a tow truck company north of Tampa. She suffered from bipolar disorder, and later in her life became a born again Christian and was baptized by "Nikita Koloff" (yes, real life, he runs a ministry now) and Gangrel. ~lw3
  13. Why do I get the feeling that, when you trace back each of the sources' sources... all paths will lead you back to a casual conversation outside a Kroger in Smyrna? I suppose we'll know more in the coming weeks when either (a) the Hawks offer the extension (as per Sam Amico) or (b) Jamal or his agent (Aaron Goodwin, who did a great job with Durant's negotiations) responds when no such offer is made. ~lw3
  14. http://www.wnba.com/video/wnba/2010/08/27/20100827wnbaatlpostgamedesktopmo-1401416 http://www.wnba.com/games/20100827/WASATL/gameinfo.html#nbaGIboxscore Dream were pitching a literal shutout in that second quarter. 26 unanswered points! It was amazing to watch them rebound and defend, and then keep the Mystics on their heels at the other end. Pesky defense at the perimeter made it difficult for the Mystics' shooters to crawl back in the game with 3's. Angel was bulldozing her way to the basket in the first half and firing up her teammates from the bench in the second. Izi will need to get a patent for that driving bankshot of hers, it was falling all night. And Sancho was able to get early rest and provide the spark they needed in the second half to seal the deal. Allison Bales was a strong presence that minimalized the need for Erika's rebounding and offense (perhaps the only shortcoming... fouled early and wasn't looked for on many offensive possessions). They get either New York or defending East champion Indiana in the second round. They had a rougher time with Washington during the regular season than either of those two foes. The possibility of a WNBA Finals game in Atlanta is now very real. Go Dream! ~lw3
  15. Great game tonight, outstanding performances all-around. More in a bit. Go Dream! ~lw3
  16. A win tonight or (if necessary) Sunday will have the Dream accomplishing in three years what the Hawks haven't done in 40. Go Dream! ~lw3
  17. By Kelly Dwyer's guesstimation, the Center Who's Not A Center is faring pretty well at Center, too. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_dont_lie/post/Ranking-the-centers-11-through-1;_ylt=Ao4s3ir6NsdjygQhJg291eG8vLYF?urn=nba-265548 ~lw3
  18. I'd give the Human Porno Film the benefit of the doubt. Without confirmation, let's assume it's much closer to the square-root of 20... That said, is it safe to say that Nique is holding it together better by far than anybody on that 'Heavyweights' list? ~lw3

  20. Wondered why J.R. Smith is more "on the trading block" than usual? Well... http://nba.fanhouse.com/2010/08/25/police-j-r-smith-involved-in-altercation-at-nuggets-practice-f/ No word whether the Olivia Newton-John hit playing in the background is what actually set J-Ruff off... ~lw3
  21. The Juggalos couldn't find any bricks to throw at Woody, so they just let Josh shoot jumpers in his direction. ~lw3
  22. http://www.wnba.com/games/20100825/ATLWAS/gameinfo.html Great defense vs. the Mystic backcourt, and aggressive offense (28 points) from Angel McCoughtry sealed the deal. And how about former Mystic Coco Miller (21 points) as the secret weapon? The Dream hung on despite FT shooting that was woeful even for them (they were shooting a Shaquillesque 48 percent at one point before coming through in the clutch), and some creative fouls management. I was worried for awhile they'd be the second ATL team tonight to blow double-digit leads. (EDIT: sorry, Bravos... you only blew a single-digit of 9). But now they get to clinch a trip to the EC Finals with a win Friday night at Philips Arena. (Tix still on sale, of course!) Don't blow it, gals! Go Dream! ~lw3
  23. nba.com needs such an overhaul. Just needs to be scrubbed clean and started completely over. Turner runs it if I'm recalling correctly and they're right here in ATL. A few of us could intern and fix that whole site in a matter of months. http://www.nba.com/playerfile/josh_smith/career_stats.html My biggest gripe is the "rankings" (look at the Regular Season ones on the above page in particular... Smoove ranks #1 in the NBA in WHAT?). Every player's is like that. And they've done nothing about it for years. I could understand if this was the ABA2000 league or the CBA, but for a so-called professional institution like this I think it's absolutely sad. ~lw3
