    Schröder.

I get where you pointing at. But he only plays iso if the possesion is dead and clock is ticking down.. Same goes for teague if he's on the field. Otherwise he is involved in the pnr. I think this is not on the pg's but the coaches and rightfully so. Meanwhile he's kicking after penetrating the whole year especially with kyle on the court. (kick to corner >> swing to korver^^) Against cleveland, i guess, iso against dellavadova with no rim-protector on cavs-site was their best option and considering teague was banged up, dennis was the man for it. C'mon Cavs's perimeter defense was strong and shots weren't falling.. don't pretend it was schroeders idea to play hero-ball. About Schröder making teammates better or not.. Think about hawks-success last year.. I'm too lazy to go with the advanced stats..

    Schröder.

I really get this feeling, that people complaining about Schröder just have a personal issue with him. They simply dont like him as a person. Especially here in Germany. Which is fine for me as he sometimes seems to embrace his cocky image and being "bad"-guy, but all that nonense about "not a team-player", "attack-first pg" or in general "ISOSCHROE" ??? Seriously, you dont like him, which is okay, but don't disredit him just because of your personal feelings and make him a more worse player than he is. He made another huge step this year, despite almost getting the same minutes like last season.. His shot, still streaky though, improved, I especially liked his step-in midrange-shot in rhythm' be it left or right. Furthermore he can take them open 3s now if he has a second to get his legs set. There is still much room for improvement and i'd like to see him practise not only with kyle (a spot-up shooter) but with someone who tells him how to create his own shot off the dribble more. Here's the thing, he was never a so called "shot-first"-pg until coach bud urged him to attack the rim more to utilize his speed better. He's learning still. He can orchestrate the pnr, ask al and imo he's on par with teague in creating offense for his team now.. This was his third year overseas, he didn't played at a college and still shows willingness to improve his game. In one of the aforementioned interviews he aid he needs to get more athletic to finish better at the rim. His defense improved too and he's starting to get into opponents heads. His d against kyrie in g4 was superb and irving seemed really frustrated. He's clearly the better defender than jeff. About his decision-making, I think he will get there with increased minutes and if you look at game 4 he's learning on the fly and variating his attacks. He scored so many times at the rim in the fourth quarter despite the defense knew what was coming because he adapted. And I think too, that at the last possession he made the right choice, but just was unfortunate that lebron got his fingers at the ball. He will learn from that. Meanwhile I was shocked how poorly the other hawks looked in this 4th quarter. They were happy with Schröder taking them on his wings on offense and defense for the whole 12 minutes and therefore he executed very well. He didn't look like baby-rondo, more like baby-westbrook.. ;)
  3. Lmao, had a real good laugh from this thread and now I get why Scott asked for Jeff's whereabouts^^
  4. Seriously, Bud is sometimes really harsh on Dennis and extremely critical with him. More critical on him than on others. And sometimes he's absolutely killing his momentum by subbing him out or putting him in the doghouse. I have no idea how their relationship is, but i feel like he really cares for dennis and his evolution as a player. He's putting him in challenging situations both mentally and physically.. Reminds me of the early Tony P days.
  5. He is not yet.. but one could argue that he's top3 backup pointguard in the league.
  6. He's not a shoot-first pg. His biggest ability besides his speed and getting in the paint is his court-vision and passing ability. Those baby-rondo comparisons didn't came up for nothing. He is consistently breaking down defenses and if there would be a stat for hockey-assists, he would shine there. On topic, I could imagine he will be a top5-pg in 2 or 3 seasons, since he can play more minutes. TO's and descision-making may hurt his case, but that's the same argument people had for westbrook some years ago. What they have in common is that both have the spirit and drive to win big and to get better to do so. Right now he keeps improving from year to year and still playing low minutes.
  7. This. Mack could have been the backup-pg after the departure of teague, since Schröder will start next summer (i really hope so..) Now we're looking again for a good fit for teague and utah is out.
  8. On paper Howard would be the right aquisition.. But thats it. In reality though.. Would be the same risk as Splitter injury-wise. Would possibly kill the lockerroom. Would demand to totally change ballmovin' system to utilize him properly Would maybe be the starplayer fans wanted for so long, but would probably fail to deliver the promised gamechanging facettes to live up the hype due to injuries and immaturity. I guess the hawks have to look at boston's summer and perhaps grab a crowder or bradley + one of their million picks for Millsap. Teague's case is more difficult and especially after the missed opportunity at the last trade-window.. If I could wish me something, it would net us Barnes and Jokic this summer..
  9. Another note: Mack with 16 and 6 in 24 last night. I'm frustrated.
  10. Really unfortunate loss.. They got GS thinking at the end of the 3rd and just beat themselves in the end.. Dennis was on the brink of getting into Curry's head with his pressure defense and I hated the early trapping of him, just for getting an open green on top of the key, where he then dismantled our otherwise good defense. Korver's sub-in was plain aweful, he hurt the ballmovement with his low self-esteem.. That sequence leading into a Schröder airball was so frustrating to watch. Korver ran a good screen, but ended in a well defended shot, what could be a needed bigtime shoot.. But he hesitated and awkwardly pushed in dennis hands, where his only option was a no riddim shot.. DS was argueing hard and I was feeling him for being upset. Horford, Thabo, Scott, Timmy and Dennis had the passion to turn this game around. Sap fought hard, but mentioned from someone earlier, he was simply outmatched by green and his outside shot didn't help. Jeff got outplayed too.. BIGTIME!!! Playing Dennis just about 5 or 6 minutes in the first half was really frustrating to watch. His only mistake was a turnover from a botched pnr-sequence with moose, where the latter just couldn't grab the ball.. Them 2 fouls where necessary I think from a mental point, I really liked the shove (i think this was, why he was subbed again) because it was showing aggression towards curry even if overmotivated. There was energy. Timmy too, played a good game. He didn't shy away from a shot like KK did and on defense he was locked in and motivated. Scott was rebounding. Nuff said. And Al was deadly in the pnr and offered great hustle. It was nice to see him showing emotion, him and Dennis were constantly talking. Their mimics and body language were screaming: "We won't go out like that." In the end really frustrating to watch from a hawks-standpoint. They got the warriors.. This could have been an upset.
  11. @macdaddy this. Splitter was a risky move and it didn't worked out. If healthy he would elevate the hawks, but he just isn't. I still have some little hope for hardaway jr., but other than that those additions never compensated for the lose of carrol.
  12. @rd79: Imo Horford is worth it. The pnr with dennis and a probable second ballhandler is very underrated and a weapon the hawks can ride in the future with. Without Millsap on the floor he could capitalized on more oppurtunities to shine. On defense he will be fine and considering the smallball-era he would still get lot of minutes on the 5. Jeff Teague could become the victim and either slide into the second unit or get traded. If we could get a good shooting sf, it would enhance the play of kk again with more and better spacing, but still I would prefer his replacement with a more athletic guard who could knock it down when necessary, so we won't get too much missmatch-possibilities on defense.
  13. I wouldn't say selfish play, it's made by design to complement his strenghts handling and dishing the ball at premium speed.. His pnr with Al is a thing of beauty imo, coming off schroeders turning-ability and horfords strong blocks and rolling plus his now extended range.. If Al could play the 4 and we have a hustler/rebounder in the middle paired with 3pt shooters, we could be fierce.. Dennis is set to lead the team next year, the only thing to improve, and im not talking about his shot, is to finish better at the rim.. A consistent floater to mix it up with stutterstep or eurostep layups would make become his unquestioned ability to get to the ring far more deadlier. To the topic: I dont think they're poorly coached or that budenholzer is overrated. He has and brought the system that made a deep but mediocre-talented team become the most succesfull in the east last year due to his coaching. He's making the best of the player material he has to work with. Imo the teamdefense is still in good shape considering we don't have a legit rimprotector. The difference between this and last season is the spacing on offense since dmc's departure, culminating in not making our 3's, which ultimately leads in being exposed on the boards. Dennis is still in the second unit to keep the strong bench going (still working). Bud is testing Edy to turn him into the rimprotector they need, but it's too early. Korver's struggles have largely to do with the abscense of Carrol and the provided open 3-possibility, since baze is just a slasher. It is what it is, the system isn't clicking like last year, but that doesn't mean they're poorly coached.
  14. @Gray Mule and @benhillboy : Thanks for the warm welcome-words.. @NBASupes I really would prefer Batum over MKG on this scenario, since he can make a shot when needed.. i think the greatest problem after DMC left is the lack of spotup 3 opportunities, which is also hurting korver's game on offense.. Baze is still more a slasher and while on defense the whole teamdefense compensated the departure of carrol, i miss him on offense. MKG is a nice playyer with supreme defense and still oozing potential starpower even after those injuries, but he will be never an above average shooter. With this system we need them 3pter's go in (seeing last year) and the reboundproblem isn't going to be exposed.
  15. Hey there, First of all, hi I'm quero from Germany and new to this forum. I've been watching the NBA for many years and especially the Hawks in the last few (should be obvious why^^) and I really like this team. While seeing the Hawks struggle this year after the phenomenal last season, I started thinking about possible ways to improve the team without ripping the core and the system which is stil imo the right and only way to go forward. Well there have been many scenarios and rumors discussed and analyzed and I don't want to recap everything. To sum it up, we need wings and a healthy bigman in the middle.. So here's the idea: Instead of getting rid JT and Al, one could consider to trade in the most valuable asset we have right now... Paul Millsap. Don't get me wrong I really like him, he's having his best season.. He's strong defender, can pass or finish, he's doing all the little things can rebound and is there when it counts. But fact is, he's an undersized 4 with average shooting and unfortunately to slow for the 3 spot. And we have another strong 4 playing center with a slightly better shot and better pnr.. Millsaps value is as high as it can get and if a gm is gonna bite and gives us a legit big or 2 wings or something, it could help the Hawks stay in the toptier in the east.. Well thats the idea, what do you think?
