  1. I'll take BPA with the Hawks no1. I saw on ESPN Ty Lawson was offered for the 6th pick.I highly doubt that is enough to get the no6 pick. Would you package Schröder for no6 or Schröder and 15 for no 6. I think Schröder and 15 is to much. Then again Teague for no6 would clear salary and allow the Hawks to draft Winslow maybe even Mario. Hawks would be able to keep both DMC and Sap however Schröder isn't ready to be no1 point guard. I would also allow the Hawks to sign a good free agent. I don't expect this since continuity and chemistry seem to be more important than getting more talent.
  2. I think the Cavs defense had alot to do with the Hawks standing around putting the Hawks in a half court game. How do you counter that issue? Also the Hawks showed they have no half court game and were terrible in the rebound dept.
  3. Sorry to hear that Ferry had to go. I don't think it's right but water under the bridge now. There is no excuse now not to draft well. Ferry was good at finding a few gems and signing them below market. Now will see if the new team can raise the game. I mean draft better, maybe sign a key free agent and turn the team into championship contenders.
  4. Cleveland this Cleveland that don't they have a cap? Lets see Lebron,Irving,TT,Mozgov,Shumpert,JR,Love.Varajo and now Wade. Yet the Hawks are struggling to make the cap at 67 million. Something wrong with this picture.
  5. OK throw the Nets out but you get my point its not a lock with all of Atlanta's starters coming back that they'll be as good and other teams could enter the picture and have an Atlanta type yr next year. Can't stand still but the biggest question is how to get better. Either you bring in a major player or tweek what you have. I just don't get the Hawks at crunch time no one wanted to lead the team and take big shots.Teague finally ended up doing it but wasn't always clutch. Injured or not how is this going to change in the future. Maybe Schröder develops a jump shot, and some other players magically find the clutch gene but I wouldn't count on it. 60 wins in reg season is impressive but how do you take the next step with the same lineup? the Cavs defense smothered the Hawks in the playoffs. How can the Hawks offset this type of defense. They have no low post game and rely on jump shots. Golden State won vs the Cavs but they have better players and a deeper bench.I think even with a healthy Hawks team it will be difficult to get back to the ECF. Hawks need to find the next Draymond Green, Leonard of the Spurs. Those players are few and far between but they can be found.Sean (Shawn) Livingston seemed to come out of nowhere and play well.Yes I realize Livingston had loads of potential entering the league but the point is he found himself in Golden State. Whoever is the next GM of the Hawks needs to up his game if ever the Hawks hope to get a title.
  6. I sure would like to bring Mathews in. Not sure if he can play small forward also but if Hawks lose DMC maybe adding Green and Mathews plus Korver off the bench would be nice. If no major moves then yes Korver will be starting next year.
  7. Agreed.Who would have thought the Hawks would have made it to the finals. Then again I am sure there is some team or teams that will do the same as the Hawks and come out of nowhere to be difficult to beat. You cn't assume the Hawks will have the same kind of season. Miami,Indiana,Washington, maybe the Nets or some other team could be the Atlanta Hawks of 2015. This is why its critical to make the right decisions. The teams with staying power know this and add talent and if they feel there is a need to change one of their major parts they find a way.
  8. I just saw the odds of winning the championship next year. Hawks are 7th on list to win it all. Is this a slap in the face to the Hawks? Doesn't Vegas realize the Hawks were injured in the playoffs? Is Vegas telling the Hawks you don't have enough talent to win it all? http://espn.go.com/chalk/story/_/id/13096380/las-vegas-likes-cleveland-cavaliers-winner-2016-finals
  9. Remember Diesel the Hawks aren't getting any younger so their ceiling could already have peaked vs the Warriors made up of many young players big difference. Also worth noting the defense the Cavs played in the playoffs was much different than we saw in the reg season. The playoffs they guarded much closer causing the windows the Hawks had to shoot much smaller. Hawks players were not used to it and shot badly the whole series. Since injuries seems to be the excuse most are riding with rather than talent what is Washington had a healthy Wall do the hawks beat them? Before DMC got injured Lebron was tearing him up in game one. Next year won't be so easy as teams know what to expect fro mthe Hawks. I still say the Cavs will be the tem to beat and it sure doesn't look like the Hawks will challenge them since Cleveland could bring back their whole team including Love and Irvine plus Varajeo.Hawks have who again backing up Horford. Some guy named Antić who throws up bricks from the outside but his main game is floor spacing. Until the Hawks address their short comings and get more talent will be back again next year debating these same issues.
  10. Diesel you didn't answer my question lets say the Hawks bring back the same team and a few tweeks and get osted again when do you make big changes? 1.Hawks lose 1st round 4-3 2.Hawks lose 2nd rd get blown out 4-0,4-1 3.Hawks lose 4-3 2nd rd 4.Hawks lose ECF blown out 4-0 or 4-1 5.Hawks lose ECF 4-3 6.Hawks lose championship keep same team? Remember next years free agent crop other than Durant won't be as good as this one. Hawks probably will be stuck with what they have. In my opinion even a healthy Hawks team probably wins one game vs the Cavs. They just don't have an answer in rebounding and their not as talented as the Warriors who can bring big man after big man off bench. Also the warriors have 2 top 5-10 guards which as we saw it takes a collective effort to beat the Cavs.Small works if you have the right talent. We saw a Hawks team at the close of games in the playoffs scared to take the crunch shots. Terrrible shooting and it can't be all because of injuries. If you want to win championships the Hawks need a star and much better bench strength. Guys like Antić would be 12th man on the warriors but with Hawks is the no1 option big man. Schröder I have my doubts he can run a team although he is young has alot to learn. So what is the answer to the question bringing back same team when do you make a big change after next year if the Hawks lose.
  11. It's team ball but also consider the stats of players in the Bud system generally go up just look at DMC. Aldridge brings in clutch play, rebounding which are two areas the Hawks badly need.
  12. Here is a hypothedical lets say the Hawks bring the same team back (starting 5) add a big who can rebound and shooting guard and yet still come up short next year. What would it take for the Hawks to trade some of their players. 1.Lose 1st round close 4-3 2.Lose 1sr round get blown out 4-1, 4-0 3. Lose 2nd rd close 4-3 4.lose 2nd rd get blown out 4-1,4-0 5.lose ECF close series 4-3 6.lose ECF get blown out 4-1.4-0 If they make the championship whether they get blown out or not I think it is safe to say keep the tem as is. So which is it among the 6 choices you would make a deal to shakeup the roster?
  13. Considering that Sapp will make probably 16 million/yr the highest Leonard can make is two more million a year. Is Leonard 2 million a year better I think so. He's also a clutch shooter.I think it would be a good signing.
  14. Agreed Hawks have no reliable closers.
  15. I think most of us respect the Hawks accomplishment. In terms of the talent on the roster it isn't enough to win it all bringing back the same team. Upgrades are needed if you want to go further. Bud's system works its just that the Hawks don't have the right players as you saw vs the Cavs. Even a healthy Hawks team probably wins one game vs the Cavs. Add a rebounding machine and outside shooter who can get his own shot off then the Hawks could win it all.
  16. I just don't see any way Leonard doesn't resign with SA but we can always hope. Chandler would solve the middle for sure.
  17. I'd go for Aldridge and Green would fit our system the best. I think Leonard and Chandler would be the best stat wise but don't think Chandler fits in this syste,Can Asik play this system? Really I have no problem with any of the combos.
  18. Will have to wait and see. Until the Hawks add a top free agent I have my doubts. The Spurs will be gunning for Gasol and Aldrige also so I am not sure the Hawks will beat them out. Then you have Dallas who some how manages to be in the thick of things with all free agents. Some how Hawks management needs to step up and show the fans this isn't the same ole Hawks. If it turns out Hawks add Monroe/Koustas and Mathews plus keep DMC I could live with that. I really like Mathews since he is a top 3 pt scorer and I think can get his own shot off. He may be injured at start of season but at least he would be there when it counts.
  19. Yes i'd be happy with either Gasol or Aldridge but this is Hawksland where no top free agents want to come.I know I know Hawks won 60 games but until the Hawks show the fan base they are serious and add a difference maker then will probably end up with second tier free agents. If DMC leaves I'd like Mathews and Kostas (backup center Memphis). I can't imagine both Sap and Carroll leave. The bigger problem is pf position. Sap just can't hang with the big boys in the playoffs. If its possible to have Sap,Koustas and Mathews I'd prefer that. Hawks need a crunch time player willing to take big shots.
  20. If I am reading this chart correctly looks like Aldridge is better than Gasol both 6 ft or and 10ft or less in post defense percentage field goals I wouldn't think Aldridge is better but the stats show otherwise. http://stats.nba.com/league/player/defense/#!/?DefenseCategory=Less%20Than%2010Ft
  21. Researching who the best rebounders are since that seems to be a prime weakness and one player seems to be ahead of everyone else for what the Hawks are looking for. Lamarcus Aldridge. Look at his off rebounds compared to Sap,Monroe,Gasol and also see that Tristan Thompson gets quite a few boards as we know. Aldridge seems to be the perfect player for the Hawks. Outside shooter, star player who can take the last shot and rebounder to counter what Cleveland has. Aldridge will cost the max however considering Sap will probably end up at 16 million its only 2 million more. I think the Hawks can get rid of 2 million on the bench to cover the extra cost. Tyson Chandler while better at off rebounds doesn't fit the Hawks offense. http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/player/_/stat/rebounds/sort/avgRebounds
  22. If the Hawks are modeling themselves after the Spurs then pf becomes critical at rebounding and scoring. Duncan yeah I know no one like him but if a player like Monroe is signed could really help things since Horford could play pf or center so their both interchangeable. Monroe is a better center I believe which means Horford would have to go to pf. Worst case scenario Monroe plays power forward and Horford center. I think monroe would fair better than Sap against bigs like we saw vs Cleveland. Let me research this how many off rebounds did Monroe get vs Sap this year. If the Hawks come back with same team then they still need a rebounder big.San Antonio rebounds well while the Hawks are one of the worst in the league.
  23. Here's is what I think happened to the Hawks at least my take on it. After the 19-0 run in January the team at first lost its mental focus. What I mean is when your in that so called zone where everything goes right you expect to win. The great fear is being complacent and I think after the run the team became complacent thinking they could just step on the court and win without doing the work to get it done. Second, injuries started occuring and the starting 5 was getting tired out logging heavy minutes.Because of the Hawks record management didn't feel it needed to do anything at he trade deadline for fear of breaking up chemistry. This is a mistake since you can never have enough talent as we found out in the playoffs.Third look at the Hawks record after the 19-0 run it is a bit over 500 (correct me if I am wrong). Teams starting adapting to the Hawks style of play thus Hawks had a more difficult time winning. The Hawks beat the Nets and Wizards true. What people should realize is the Nets are a weak team barely making the playoffs. When you have the no1 team in the east vs a weak Nets team shouldn't the Hawks have won 4-0 or 4-1 instead of barely beating them. The Hawks had great difficulty defending Lopez and it should have made the Hawks realize their style of play while good in the reg season isn't going to do as well in the playoffs. How many teams win championships shooting from the outside. This year the Warriors might do it but they have a much better roster than the Hawks and a superstar. The Hawks beat the Wizards with Wall being on the sidelines much of the series. They barely beat the Wizards and once again size as an issue. Can you consistently win by losing on the boards, not hitting outside shots and having no post game? They faced the Cavs who were a much different team than the one the Hawks faced in the reg season. Keep in mind many of the players the Cavs have came during trades in the reg season. Mozgov,Shumpert,JR most notabely and the Cavs were trying to find themseves as a team. This was my greatest fear is the Hawks would be complacent in the playoffs thinking this is the same Cavs team they faced in the reg season. It wasn't and the Hawks paid dearly for it losing 4-0 in the playoffs to a much superior team. Injuries were a factor but can you blame it on "injuries" when your players are missing wide open shots in the playoffs. There is simply no excuse to not make the majority of wide open shots. Hawks had nothing to counter the size disadvantage and ultimately the rebounding, and post game of the Cavs. When you have Antić has your no1 big man coming off the bench your in trouble. Was Horford injured vs the Cavs? Most of the series he didn't play well. Was it because of Mozgov being a bigger man? Thompson of the Cavs dominated on the boards. Do we really expect Sap to outrebound Thompson? No clutch shooters other than Teague at end of games. Teague had to be forced in to taking shots at the end of games since no one else was stepping up. The offense became stagnant once the team got in a half court game. No post game means outside shots where many didn't go in. Lackadasical play at times which loses games. I don't bringing Sap and Carroll back but the Hawks need to add to what they have. They need a big man to help on the boards and an outside shooter. How they are going to find these players with not much cap room is the question. Tavaras will be a rookie so don't expect to much from him. The Hawks need a vet leader someone who can settle the team down during difficult times. Carroll is thr closest thing we have but someone thats been there done that would be nice to have. There seem to be to many followers and not enough leaders on the team. I think having Thabo back will help but from what we saw vs the Cavs the Hawks need to find some vet talent to come in and help. Now if it mean losing one of Sap and Carroll to obtain another big and shooting guard then I am ok with it. I think this SA system is one where your numbers get inflated thus any player worth his weight will do well. I'd hate to lose DMC because he is nitty grittty player and shows the most leadership but if he wants to much then bye bye. Sap well I hate losing his numbers but if a guy like Monroe can get us further in the playoffs then do it. Should be interesting to see what happens with the team soon.
  24. Agreed! some how management must make their draft pick count. Kahil Leonard wasn't drafted in the top 10,Draymond from the Warriors not a top pick however I know those players are few and far between. Seems like the good teams find gems so the Hawks need to find a rookie who can contribute. It is about matchups so if there is a way to keep the same core and add a big and shooting guard I can be happy. Still think the Hawks need a star.
