Something big is about to go down. The timing, it all makes sense. DJM taking a discount and locking in so we can establish a Big 3.

    Who’s the 3rd?

Again who cares though?   This is a person.  This ain't 2k.  Whenever my kids marvel at the money these guys make I always say "now imagine how much the owner of the team is making".    The owners are in control of this whole thing.  The players play by whatever rules have been established. Asking to be traded is well within any player's rights.   It's not up to the players to lookout for a team that they will no longer work for.

And we all know that Portland is ecstatic that Dame officially wants out.  They were the ones to announce it.  They want to rebuild badly and he's in the way.

Agreed, but that's not the entirety of what he's doing though, is it? He's asking to be traded to 1 team. One.

Not here's 5 teams, go out and get the best offer, he's giving them 1 team. One.

And that's why you get this -

Dame will get all his money and eventually Portland will trade him to Miami at a discount. Portland fans will lose as well.

It's an interesting conversation that @ShooterSays

    Honoring the contract.

Is there the expectation that the team will do what it can to be in a winning position?

It's a real question because if PTL for instance... decided that we wanted to tank... does Lillard have to go along with that?

I've seen times where a contract says that if a guy gets say a scoring average of 20 ppg... that the team will pay him an extract 2 million dollars.  But as the end of the year comes, the team let him start and took him out after 8 minutes to lower his scoring average.  Is that honoring the contract?

When a player signs with a specific team and that team trades him.. does that mean that the team didn't honor it's contract?  I mean, JC didn't sign on to play with Utah.. if that's what he wanted, he would have went to Utah and made a deal.

Honoring contracts is a very loose disignation in the NBA. Obviously, it doesn't have anything to do with loyalty to that team.  Just loyalty to the terms of the contract and whoever holds it.

It’s trade me to ONLY Miami that I have the biggest issue with.

If he gave them 5 teams who could get into a bidding war, I wouldn’t have such a strong opinion on this.

My response is the same to you both.  He hasn't not played yet, so the outrage there is premature.

Is this the weirdest disagreement between agreeing parties ever?  Hah

Demanding to be traded is essentially telling them I'm not playing here anymore lol

He's screwing them and it's pretty obvious.

I agree to a point.  Are teams "not honoring" the contract they sign when they trade the player?  It's really the same thing.

He's honoring his contract.  He's just not honoring the spirit of the 'business' he's chosen.  The business he chose can trade him as the team sees fit.

Yeah, it's a bit of a hair-split, and I agree with your general premise and outrage.

Not even remotely the same thing. Player still gets paid when he's traded. Portland is most likely going to get 10 cents on the dollar for their superstar.

I am told the framework is:

    Murray and Hunter to TOR

Siakam, JJ, and Horford plus 2024 1st (ATL likely SAC) to POR

    Lillard to BOS

    J. Brown and Nurkic to ATL

Wonder what the plan would be at PF going forward IF this ends up happening. Our starting PF and primary backup from last year would be gone. The most rumored replacement, Siakam, would also be gone to POR.

Ayton anybody or has that ship sailed? lol

I've seen Grant Williams floated, but....meh.

  7. If you see rumors start coming out linking Boston to Dame...it probably means a trade is imminent.

Remember...JB was not happy when he was linked to a KD trade. If he's linked to another trade, I could see him demanding out. Boston has every reason to keep this one quiet.

They are trying to compete for the playoffs and develop their young players. Something you see going on around the league. No teams want to flat out tank anymore. No one wants to be Houston, not even Houston

If they couldn’t make the playoffs with Dame, they’re certainly not going to make the playoffs without him and with a rookie PG and Siakam.

Portland wants JB. JB don't want Portland. Either supermax or homecoming

    This part makes sense.

Toronto somehow inserting themselves into what looks like a 3 team trade doesn’t.

Siakam doesn’t fit their timeline without Dame.

If Portland doesn't care about Siakam UFA, why not just keep Brown and resign him and team him up with Scoot and Sharpe?

Part of the rumor was JB only wants to sign the max with Boston or ATL.

So it’s essentially Dame for JB. JB doesn’t want to go to Portland so is routed to ATL. We send young players and draft assets to Portland.

Portland doesn’t like Miami’s offer because it doesn’t have young players with potential I guess? And we have that? Idk…

I’m lost why Toronto would be part of this unless Siakam is coming to ATL.
