Why is AJ being involved the dead give away? He hasn't touched the court in any meaningful minutes this season and went batshit crazy this summer.

Bc DJM is the best player in the trade by far. We shouldn’t have to give up AJ too to get that bum return from the Knicks.

You also are most likely going to suck and be in the lottery next year and for a while.  Teams that tear down and take picks and expiring do it so they can tank.  We can't tank so we would have to buck the trend and use the picks to bring in an upgrade in talent or at least better fitting talent.  I think that is easier to do trading player for player than it is converting players into picks and then picks into players.

I don’t disagree. We’re in a very perilous spot right now.

But if you’re not getting good value in trades for guys like Cap or Dre, what else do you do?

I agree with all of your points except the last one.  KP is a walking injury.  Watch it bite Boston in the buttocks.

That bite has them in first place so far. And he’a played in 80% of games last year and 75% so far this year.

Yes, he's a good POA defender and can hit threes. I'd like him on this team for the right price.

That’s exactly what we need. Really any team should want that.

Whats the catch then? Why is NY looking to trade him? Seems like that should be a good fit in between Brunson and OG.

Travis wanted Luka, Tony wanted Trae for $$$. It was a no brainer who was going to win that argument.

Travis failed too. No way Tony wins that argument or even demands that if the scouting report on Luka was right.

I don't think that chart was clear.  These are the picks the Nets Owe to other teams:

    1. Brooklyn Nets:

      • 2024: To Houston Rockets.
      • 2025: Own pick or Houston Rockets’ pick (via swap if certain conditions are met).
      • 2026: To Houston Rockets.
      • 2027: Own pick or Houston Rockets’ pick (via swap).
      • 2028: Two most favorable picks from Brooklyn, Philadelphia 76ers (if certain conditions are met), and Phoenix Suns.
      • 2029 and beyond: Own picks1.

I can't dig through their picks now...but there's gotta be some value in there somewhere after the KD and Kyrie trades.

what picks? they have some convoluted pick situations that I'm too lazy to decipher to deal with until 2029.

    2024 - To HOU

2025 - Own or HOU (via HOU swap for BRK) if HOU 1-10 or if HOU 11-30 less favorable than LAC; or least favorable of BRK, HOU 11-30 and OKC; and more favorable of (i) BRK and (ii) less favorable of HOU 11-30 and OKC to HOU if HOU 11-30 more favorable than LAC (via OKC swap for HOU 11-30 or LAC; via HOU swap of HOU or OKC for BRK); PHX

    2026 - To HOU

2027 - Own or HOU (via HOU swap for BRK); PHL 9-30 if PHL conveys 1st round pick to OKC in 2025; PHX

2028 - Two most / more favorable of BRK, PHL 9-30 if PHL does not convey 1st round pick to BRK in 2027 and if PHL has conveyed 1st round pick to OKC by 2026, and PHX; more favorable of (i) WAS and (ii) least / less favorable of BRK, PHL 9-30 if conveyed to BRK, and PHX to WAS then other to PHX (via BRK swap of BRK or PHL for PHX; via WAS swap for PHX, BRK or PHL)(via BRK swap of BRK or PHL for PHX; via WAS swap for PHX, BRK or PHL)

    2029 - Own; DAL; PHX

    2030 - Own

Those PHX picks could be gold mines.

I would say it's Indy, Sacramento or Atlanta. Toronto doesn't like anything from Dallas. But they have to accept Atlanta isn't trading anyone on a rookie deal but AJ and Walker is off limits from Indy.

Maybe, but your guy #12 is gone if we do.

The team would like to get back a good PF and slide Jalen to the 3. The team would like to get bigger (like 10lbs/2 inches per position) and that starts with Jalen over Dre. The interesting name I heard (and I heard several) was Marvin Bagley at the 4 next to Jalen. They think that's the kind of size/fit they'd like and they think Trae can bring out the best in a player like Bagley.

The team would be willing to slide BB back into the starting lineup at the 2 if the return on DJ is good.

The team would like to move on from Clint for a bigger, longer Center with potential. They would be willing to play OO at the center until the big center develops.

I'd be very surprised if we don't acquire an enforcer.

    Trae/Caruso/JJ/Lauri/Claxton

We don’t have the assets now to make this happen, but if you unload DJM, Dre, and Cap…maybe…just maybe we would. Get enough cap space and just sign Claxton over the summer as an UFA.

This would be the perfect lineup around Trae imo with guys who are rumored to be available - size, shooting, and defense. This lineup has it all.

If we made a trade for our own picks back, that signals to everyone we are rebuilding, not retooling.  Why else would we rather have our own picks than someone elses?  If the FO doesn't even believe in the roster, how can they expect fans to?  Angling for our own picks is a very bad signal imo and would validate @JayBirdHawk's concerns

I’m not saying we have to keep those picks if we get them back. I’d hope we’d use them to get a star. But I haven’t seen a single credible rumored trade yet for DJM that makes us better.

So if we’re going to trade him, at least get the most value possible back. And those picks are probably it.

  11. Spurs are easily our best trade option. Sitting at 14-21 with a lot of uncertainty about our future, those 2 unprotected picks and that pick swap are the most valuable assets we could get back in a trade BY FAR.

Even if you want to put another star around Trae, which should be the goal, getting those picks back is the easiest way to do that.
