  1. Sooooo based on these new rumors from @NBASupes, I see our depth chart being:

    Trae/Hayes/Ish Smith
LaVine/Cam (Still convinced Zach LaVine is the Mega trade)
    Hayward/Hunter/Brown Jr.
    Collins/Skal
    Capela/Bruno/Skal

Yeah, this works. I like it. Would prefer to keep Okongwu if he falls to 6, but Kilian Hayes has potential too. And backup PG would be BY FAR our biggest need going into the draft.

We'd easily make the playoffs with this team and I wouldn't bet against us winning a series or two.

I hear you, sir.  I'd just miss the Red Mamba.  And every time I see Lavine jak up some ill-advised shot I'll be ...

    Lol love that gif!

Yeah, I was just saying in that original post it's not a perfect fit. BUT, I think LaVine buys you two years while guys like Cam and Hunter develop and will make us more competitive than we are right now with Huerter. LaVine is just better right now.

And it's all about doing what we have to in order to be competitive this year and keep Trae happy. I think this move does that and doesn't hurt our future (I'd miss Huerter too btw.)

The question isn't 'is he individually better at basketball than Heurter?'.  The question is 'is he better for this team than Heurter?'  I'd say that's very much up for debate.

In theory and on paper, it's a clear runaway for Lavine.  But, in reality, role buy-in matters in a tangible way.

I get your point and it's a valid argument. I'm just piecing together the clues that we've been given and I think this trade makes the most sense.

Personally, I think upgrading to a 25 PPG 38% three point shooter would be an upgrade over Huerter.

Where has it been established?  Unless it is from Supes or Camp it hasn’t.

They've specifically said it's not Trae, Capela, or the 2019 lottery guys (Reddish and Hunter.) Travis said in his press conference today, "Our hope is to get something done with him (John Collins)."

    That only leaves one player...

Uhm ... how does Lavine make anyone a playoff threat tho?

CHI arguably has as much, if not more, raw talent than we do and they were terri-bad his whole time there.  I'm just saying, for him to push us to some higher level, he'll literally have to do things we've never seen him do.  Ever.

Alls I'm saying is it looks good on paper but, once you go 3D with it, .. ehhh, I'm dubious.

I'd say it's more likely, after about 6 games he'll be in the media asking why he don't get more shots.  Ooh but wait'll y'all see what I've been working for the (non-existent) 2021 dunk contest.

I think we've established today that Hueter is the player going out from the Hawks in the "3 team mega trade", like I predicted earlier. So we have to be bringing a SG back. Go down the list of shooting guards out there and tell me who you think it could be, if not LaVine. There's literally no one else.

And I think you're crazy if you don't think LaVine is an upgrade over Huerter at this point in their careers. They're probably a wash on defense, but LaVine is just better on offense right now.

Capela will also be a new addition and Supes is rumoring Heyward.

Additions of LaVine + Heyward + Capela = Playoffs in the East

Eh, let's don't go that route. Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, Pettit, McHale, etc. were all studs at young ages. I can keep naming names but you see my point.

For today's game right NOW I wouldn't trade JC for any PF not named Anthony Davis.

Lol you get my point though. His stats at 23 are up there with the all time greats at that age and you're not trading him for anything other than a bona fide superstar like Giannis or AD.

How many power forwards under the age of 25 are better than JC? I think of a single one. Dude is flat out stud.

I'm not sure if there are any PF's in the history of the game who've, at 23, put up better numbers than John Collins. It's why the trades people were posting on here involving him were so laughable to me.

    Edit: Tim Duncan was better.

Have we seen measurements on Okongwu?  I saw something posted over the weekend about him being shorter than expected.

I'd love to see him stand side by side with Bam.

But with how physical Okongwu plays, I'm not too worried about it.

If Okongwu is best player available, go for it.

Here's my big board though if we stay at #6:

    1. Isaac Okoro

    2. Onyeka Okongwu

    3. Tyrese Haliburton

    4. Killian Hayes

    5. Obi Toppin

I'd obviously switch 1 and 2 but I like Okoro a lot. He's a GA boy so I'm a little bit of a homer on him lol

I think Hali is better right now than Hayes, but I think Hayes has more potential. I wouldn't dislike either of those picks though.

Not a Toppin fan personally, but he's probably the most NBA ready of anyone in the draft. I just worry about how much more he can improve given his age.

  11. My gut is telling me we draft Okongwu. Gives him 3 years to develop under Capela and then he's our Center of the future. Outside of the top 3 guys, I think Okongwu has the most potential.

My second guess would be a backup PG - probably Hayes, maybe Haliburton.

Last but not least would be Okoro, just based on potential and his defense.

I think one of these guys will almost certainly be a Hawk on draft night and I think we stay at 6.

Wow, can't believe CP3 is going to phoenix, did not really expect that.  I wonder if this was against his will or if he was O.K. with it.

I wanna know what this draft compensation is. OKC really over here stockpiling picks right now lol

100%.  Also, getting to the playoffs is not the same as trying to win a ring.  Lavine will be off this contract after 2 years with the Hawks, when they could make decisions on what they've seen the past 2 years from the developing young guys.  His contract and timeline would be a perfect fit for us going forward, so I could definitely see this one happening.

THIS 100%. LaVine makes you a playoff contender right now. Which keeps Trae happy and gives Cam and Hunter 2 years to develop. It's all about giving our core time to develop WHILE being competitive. LaVine does this.

Is he a perfect fit right now? No.

But in 2 years, Cam and Hunter may very well be a perfect fit for this team and both entering their prime.

Well, not to be argumentative buuuut ....

Slam dunk stuff means less than nothing.  25 pts/game could easily be seen as "welp, somebody's gotta score on a bad team".  38% from 3 is nice.

Taken further, he has probably the worst personal winning percentage of any player in the history of the nba.  Not all his fault clearly but .... it's not not his fault.  Perfect size and athleticism to be a plus defender but ... isn't.  Why?

Long story long, he's not an all-star and isn't close to being one so = ain't mega in my book.

All that said, I won't fight you if you do like him.  Just offering my point of view.

I can't argue with anything you're saying either. He just checks the boxes of Supes' rumor and also checks most of the boxes from a basketball fit perspective for this team.

We're not trading for a PG.
SF the rumor is Heyward. If you dig deeper into SF, there's no one there that makes any sense from a mega trade perspective.
PF, no one can convince me that we're trading JC. When we traded for Capela, Trae and JC we're the 2 main pieces of the core. Capela was brought in to complement them. No way they trade JC before seeing that trio play 1 game together.
C, obviously not going to be a center based on the above.

That leaves SG. And when you go down the list of top shooting guards, LaVine is the name that jumps out and makes the most sense. His name is also attached to a lot of trade rumors. Where there's smoke....there's fire.

  15. I also think LaVine makes the most sense based on his contract. His contract isn't bad at all: 2 years left at $19.5M. What happens in 2 years? Trae is getting PAID. This timing works out perfectly. Reddish is also probably ready to step up and take over the starting role.

I also think we stay at 6 and draft Okongwu in the draft. The beauty of Capela's contract comes into play here. Capela will be expiring just as Okongwu is entering his prime and is probably ready to take over at Center.

I expect us to sign Heyward as well to a 3 year deal. This timing also works out great with Reddish and Hunter being paid in 3 years.

    Trae/FA/Goodwin
    LaVine/Cam/FA
    Heyward/Hunter/FA
    Collins/Okongwu/Skal
    Capela/Okongwu/Bruno

I obviously have zero inside information and this is just what I would do lol
But this is a playoff team and a competitive one at that.

It has to be a team that needs cap space. I don't remember supes shutting this theory down:

    Atlanta: Ben Simmons and Horford

    Philly: Oladipo, John Collins, Huerter

    Indiana: Dedmon, Josh Richardson

But I think it's contingent on OKC taking Philly's offer for maybe Tobias Harris and Thybulle for Chris Paul.

I don't think pairing Simmons with Young/Capela works.
