  1. Wow where to begin on this one, you really just don't like JJ do you. Um, first of all Brewer is 6'8 and Marvin was guarding him most of the game Smitty even called him out for not boxing him out. Next that Jaric play was not JJ's fault yes he was guarding him at the beginning of the play, but even JS said in the post game that the plan was for JJ to go out on the top side of the screen that was set and JS was supposed to cut under, but JS didn't see the screen and thought Jaric went on the top side. Secondly, seeing how Marvin is 3 inches taller then Joe, Woody didn't switch Marvin to Jaric you jackass. Marvin's duty all year has been to guard the inbound man with his height and freakish wingspan. Notice that on both plays Marvin had the inboundman???????????? Uh, didn't look like Woody said switch because as soon as the ball was inbounded and the pick occurred Smith picked him up. PLEASE WATCH ALL DETAILS BEFORE SPOUTING OFF. If it is a 2, 3, or ,4 that inbounds the ball Marvin ALWAYS covers the inbound due to his reach to make the inbound difficult. ALWAYS. If its a small PG he usually doesn't so he can guard his man and AJ or Acies isn't on a big.
  2. I love the JJ hate. It's so funny. 18 games into the season and he has led or tied for the lead in assist in all but 3 games. So clearly he is trying to get everyone involved. I think Joe realizes the best way to stop double teams and having teams just gear for him is to let the other players establish themselves early in the year. Marvin finally looks to be hitting his stride, Smith looks like he is giving up on the deep jump shots. Acie is healthy. We are 1/2 game out of the playoff spot, 1 1/2 from the 5th seed, our avg ot def. is -1.8 which is 5th best in the east, we have played the hardest stretch of our schedule (only 3 loses to non-playoff teams chi, sea, mil, our other loses were to all teams that are the top 4 in their conferences: 2 det, sa, nj, bos, was, and no. we have beaten dal and phx. yes this team can be maddeningly inconsistent, but i think we can all agree we thought we were a 7th or 8th seed before the season started which is about .500. We are 2 games under and 1/2 game from our goal after a brutal starting schedule, in which our starting pg missed 8 games and still isn't 100. but would people stop acting like the sky is falling. we are about where we thought, with still room for improvement to get better. Our top player goes for 21 pts, 9 rebs, 4 ast, 2 stls and yet is vilified. I have to agree we are 12-7 if we didn't have Woody. His substitutions make you just scratch your head.but we clearly have him for the long haul, so what else do you want. we thought we were a 7 or 8 seed .500 team and we are about that and people are shocked? what did you expect a 17-1 start?
  3. I really don't get were this SG thing came from. He has always been and always will be a PG. He won the Bob Cousy award for best pg, he played pg in high school, and played pg in college. The only reason he scored so much in college was he was the best player on his team. A PG is supposed to control the tempo and offense. Well look at those A&M rosters, who was better then him at scoring. He did what had to be done to win. In the last 5 minutes of a game he was the best scoring option so he had to shoot and take those clutch shots. Nobody argues Steve Nash is a PG. (I'm not copmaring the two). Just like the PHX game against us, nobody else was hitting shots so he started shooting. Chris Paul did the same thing, nobody else was hitting so he started shooting. Everyone agrees they are both PG's, but for some reason when the game was on the line and he was the best player on his team he takes shots and is instantly labeled a SG. I just dont get it.
  4. ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..................... WOODY? This was literally the line up on the floor to start the second. Lue Mario chill Shelden Zaza can we get a worse offensive lineup? who there can create their own shot?
  5. that matador defense Zaza is playing with his back turned is amazing. No less then 4 pick and rolls and he just leaves Paul and then West once to an open lane for uncontested layup amazing! Then Lue gets the ball into Chill who has obvious mismatch, Chill kicks out to repost has him in good shape Lue still dribbling. Chill goes out and Jackson goes to double team Lue, so Chill is standing open for a three and what is Lue doing, standing looking at him dribbling. Dribbles over to the elbow, 2 secs left and fires it out of bounds over Mario's head. Just wow, how Woody doesn't just yank them and tell them they can't do that is amazing.
  6. The biggest thing about him getting it with 3 secs left is our awful half court offense. Another contribution is Smith himself. If it isn't a play directly run for him he just hangs out there. That's why he gets it all the time. No defender is going to go out on him till he can prove he hits that, but when AJ or Lue drive and get in trouble they have to kick it to the open man, and that far away he will ALWAYS be open. If he would just sink in a bit or move to get an alley or just a bit above the free throw line he could get those kick outs and take one dribble and dunk or lay up. Just bring it in 3 or 4 feet Josh, and in 3 secs with his leap , one dribble and up. But he just stand back there when he isn't involved and sulks. The biggest tell on this how many offense rebs does he have this year????????????????? Anyone, Bueller, Bueller? 24 out of his 100 rebs. So his 5 reb nights it's usually 1 off. reb. Don't you think someone with his skill set should by luck get 2 off rebs? Off of long rebounds or just beign able to out jump everyone? he doesn't get many because he doesnt hang around the rim on offense.
  7. also some from the game that we got to sit at courtside last year thanks to the squawk.
  8. Be careful what you ask for TP. I was just wondering why Soth never even tried to explain my Shanks explanation for why that's irrelevant. That and the 0-7 call out, with ? why would believe any more tips. Then I remembered after I quoted his lie and posted it he said he was tired of arguing and would ignore my post. So if you prove him wrong you will get your wish, and you should be ignored. Feel free to quote and copy my explanations above in your response so Sothy can see what an ass he makes of himself. That is what I still can't get over, as I said above. Why would you post misinformation or keep posting rumors that never pan out? Even if Soth does have an inside source which he prob knows someone, but post every lil thing he hears or just his own opinions and list from source, who will believe him? I'm sorry but if someone tells me seven things and none turn out, and then admits to putting up misinformation then who is going to believe him when he does have legit stuff. This is why I don't buy his story at all. If his source did have an agenda and did want stuff to get out, don't you think he would have to have correct info to get people to believe him???? If chicken little yells the sky is falling 7 times and it doesn't, and then admits to making 1 or 2 up, who believes him when he comes back the 8th time? So what agenda or stories can that source hope to be bought on here?
  9. This is what I don't get. So your sources haven't told you one thing that has panned out to happen. It's like the little boy who cried wolf. If your sources do have an agenda then why would they keep leaking bad info. The thing with an agenda or wanting to leak stuff is to have people believe you. So if you say 7 things and none of them pan out, and to top that off you admit to giving bad info and misinformation how credible is it. I'm sorry but if your "source" does have an agenda, by putting out wrong or propursely putting out bad info then when they do want to get something out what credibility does it have. By your own omission you know some of this info is bad but you still post it. So next time you post something, what is the first thing that will come to the mind of even those that do buy all this BS, gee I wonder if this is real or another bogus agenda story. It makes no sense. The only way to further an agenda or to keep leaking stories is if the masses believe it. So after an 0-7 and admitting to posting misinformation how effective is that????
  10. I remember Jay saying that Sothron knew somebody. I am never arguing that point I am sure he does know someone there. But Jay never came out with stuff like this. Jay can confirm he knows somebody, but that doesn't mean that that person is telling Soth all this stuff. big difference in telling what your guy tells you, and then what Soth does of just posting vague random opinions and saying no no i know someone. Not arguing that he does or doesn't know someone. But is it not odd that Jay's info ALWAYS panned out, and I mean always. It was never vague, it was direct and to the point. Now Soth knows this guy and it is 0-7 and couldn't be more vague. He might as well work for Ms. Cleo and just state generalizations. Jay never posted stuff saying it was to fit someones agenda and never flip flopped back and forth. Oh but the best part is that the tidbits that he found out in advance that DID pan out like he knew of the Big Dog, Walker, and Terry trades conveniently never got posted. But the ones he did post about that he said "more then likely, and make sure you watch this" never did uh. I wish I could say that I knew the winning lotto numbers the last 2 weeks , but chose not to play. This week I didn't but I played anyway, but hey if I hit I def. knew about it
  11. wait a damn minute. You have been saying for days now that calling Shanks was to verify your inside guy. So what is the purpose of calling someone if he just pm'd you asking what you knew. Nobody is arguing that a sports guy called you. So if I type that I know someone is assassinating the president and the secret service calls me to ask how I know and what I know, what does that prove? So TP calls Shanks and ask that, where are we then we verified a reporter saw your post and contacted you and gave you a number if you hear something. thats just a reporter hoping you pan out and if can get something he can that proves nothing. So why do you keep champion that as your be all end all proof.
  12. Really not going to get into the middle of this, but can't help falling out of my chair laughing at this. Soth and I got into a year or so ago and I haven't had much cred in him, but at least respected him as a poster. So lets get this straight: Quote: I remember talking about Knight's interest in Yi before anyone was putting Yi to Atlanta So you said BK was interested in drafting the 3rd overall projected propsect uh..... 3rd. Yi was in two ESPN mocks in April as goign third. Most importantly did we end up drafting Yi 3rd? , I remember mentioning the Amare deal and what the thinking was behind it from all sides before it was a draft night ESPN special, so a deal that has been said to be just rumors, all three teams deny it was going to happen. never happened I remember talking about Gasol and Calderon being a linked trade for us and then people on the Raptors realgm board were talking about trading for Chill after I reported that exact trade and that Toronto wanted both Chill and #11 IIRC... um you just said earlier in this post that you said it was 11 straight up for calderon, so another fan on another "message board" comes up with a likely trade scenerio similar and its your idea? I can keep going but specifically I have said several things.I did mention the Aldeman interest, the Biedrins offer for Smoove and a few players talking about tanking as well. Is that still too "vague" for you? neither has been even spoken about by anyone else Why don't you call Bill Shanks or Jaywalker and ask them about it. I mean unless your agenda gets in the way that is. So ummmmmmmmmmmmm not calling you out but well ummmmmmmm. You listed 7 things you broke, Yi = never happenedAmare = never happenedGasol = never happenedCalderon = never happenedAdelman = never happenedSmooth = hasnt happened, still giving you it might Tanking = comebacks, and if it ever got out, since clearly it can if you know. Don't you think those players reps would take a serious hit ala Vince Carter? So I highly doubt they would let anyone know but themselves. So for your "scoops" that you just listed you are 0-5 with two more looking less likely. Sorry if after awhile your 0-7 rumors are hard to phathom. The one that really got me was Adleman, never, and I mean never ever have I heard of a coach or agent inquiring about a job that wasn't vacant. They just don't do that to each other.
  13. I wasn't going to bring that up since it was college, but people forget he beat out JJ Reddick for the ALL TIME 3pt shooting % in the history of NCAA. I know its only been about 25 years for 3 pointers. BUT HE HAS THE BEST 3 PT SHOOTING % in NCAA history. Yet he isn't the best pure shooter on our team??????????? I have seen some lame arguments on here and let them go, but you can't with a straight face say the "sniper" isn't the best spot up pure shooter on our team. Woody always said that there would be games that Salim would be great matchups with and would play more in. So in a game where nobody can score in the paint period, everyone is talking jumpshots. When you are down by 13 in the early 3rd quarter, and that 13 is a Mt. Everest considering the two teams were avg. 15 pts a quarter at that point why not put in your best shooter????? What is the worst that could happen you lose by more? Did anyone hear Smitty and Bob last night when he came in and had 6 points in 6 minutes. Smitty goes instant offense when ever he comes in. I'm really not a huge Salim fan, you can see my prior post. But good god when your team is shooting 25% and scoring under 15 points in a quarter dont you think you should get your spark plug in there before you are down 23 with 8 minutes to go???????
  14. You can't be serious. I'm on the fence about Salim, but you can't tell me he isn't the best pure shooter on the team. Name one person beside JJ who was on the floor any way. Who could even get H-O on Salim in a horse game. So if the guys on the court aren't rebounding, passing, shooting you just leave them out there and it's their fault? Its the players bad, buts it's the coach's job to mix it up and try something else. Or at least pull Smith out and let him know it is not ok to go 2-14.
  15. wait wait, so let me get this straight our team can't shoot for [censored], and when does our best shooter come in the game????????????? 9 minutes to go in the game. I know Salim and Mario aren't in the rotation, but as a coach when your top guys arent shooting, arent hustling, and arent playing defense then its your job to put in other player. I assumed with AJ and T Lue playing the first 3 qtrs that Salim had to be hurt, but no he comes in when we are down 23 in the fourth. Im not saying he is a savior or anything, but when you are shooting 25% in a jump shooting game might want to get your best pure shooter in. just my opinion
  16. Do people realize there are two parts to an assist?? First the pass then the made shot. Does anyone remember the Detroit game and Law with to great passes to Chill under the basket all for a missed dunk and a foul on Detroit? Assist are an indicator of facilitating but they aren't the only thing. Law has done a nice job of getting guys in position and keeping the flow going unlike T. Lue. Also its easy to 25 assist when Peja hits 10 3's in the game. All from Paul. Did anyone watch that game??? It wasn't CP3 going nuts it was Peja. All Paul did was walk the ball up and pass to Peja, it wasn't even drive and kick. It was Paul at the top of the key, Peja running a baseline screen and popping out on the wing Paul throws a pass my grandmother could make and Peja burries another one. Not saying Paul isn't good or that 25 assist wasn't a feat, but 10 were all Peja just going nuts with Kobe all over him.
  17. yeh but you cant look at just the stats, i know two of Acie's were on passes that hit Chill in the hands and went out of bounds. Also two of Al's were on those nonfoul cals early on. Chill and Josh just look tense on O. They are letting passes skip off their hands and making some pour shot selections.
  18. Quote: ATLANTA -- At the Atlanta Hawks media day, expectations are high enough that folks are daring to mention the "p" word again. That's right -- the owners of the league's longest drought at eight years and counting are daring to discuss the postseason. So is this a playoff team? "I think so," said head coach Mike Woodson. "I think we've got a legitimate shot of making the playoffs. I thought we had a legitimate shot last season up until the last month and a half." "Some of our young guys have gotten much, much better. Some of them I can't even call them young guys anymore," he said, pointing out that Josh Smith and Josh Childress were entering their fourth seasons and Marvin Williams his third. "They're not babies anymore. "The last two or three years you're constantly teaching, teaching, teaching ... I'm past that stage now." The players seemed to agree. "Definitely," said Joe Johnson, who is completely recovered from the calf strain that kept him out at the end of last season. "I know we haven't had great results, but I wanted to be part of this rebuilding process." "I think so," said forward Josh Smith, fresh off a summer working out in Houston with Calvin Murphy and Hakeem Olajuwon. "We can't just talk about it, but & I think we have enough depth to get it done." "No question about it," said sixth man Childress, who spent his offseason taking classes at Stanford to get his degree in sociology at Stanford. "The mindset we have is we're shooting for the playoffs & I think we all feel we're ready." Most of the players have been in town for a few weeks working out, and the early reports on rookie big man Al Horford have been strong -- a couple players threw out the word "beast." Horford says he prefers playing power forward, but he may be playing a lot of his minutes at center this year, with Josh Smith and Marvin Williams at the forwards. In either role, hopes for him are high. "I think he's going to be a big-time player in our league for a long time," said Woodson. "It's no joke, his team winning two national titles." For the immediate future, a five-man competition for minutes at point guard between Speedy Claxton, Tyronn Lue, Anthony Johnson, Acie Law and Salim Stoudamire should provide the most drama. Woodson says it's an open competition, but if you're looking for horses to put your money on, go with Claxton to win, Lue to show and Law to place. Claxton bombed as a free agent pickup last year, but he's looked rejuvenated after offseason knee surgery, and the coaches have taken note. "It's good to have Speedy back healthy," said Woodson. "He's by far been the biggest surprise in the last three weeks playing here. To me he's the Speedy of old. He's happy, he's talking, he's up and down the floor making plays, and he's not laboring like last year." Claxton had knee trouble all last season but didn't go under the knife until June, when doctors removed floating debris that had been causing him so much trouble. He described himself as at 85 percent, with the mental adjustment being the hardest part -- he'd conditioned himself to avoid moves that caused his knee pain a year ago. Lue may be more comfortable coming off the bench anyway, a role where he's thrived the past few seasons. "1 through the 5, I don't care, just put me out there," said Lue. "I'll start, come off the bench, 12th off the bench, whatever." Some other notes from training camp: • Lue, who won two rings with Kobe Bryant as a Laker, felt his frustrations were just the result of how competitive he is. "He belongs [in L.A.]," Lue said. "A guy that works as hard as he works, he just wants to win. You can't complain about a guy that makes all the money in the world and still wants to win." • Johnson said Shawn Marion's situation in Phoenix took him by surprise and that "it was great" playing with Marion when the two were teammates with the Suns. "But I don't know what's going on because I'm not there anymore," he said. • In the wake of Friday's piece on the Celtics needing a nickname other than "Big Three" for Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, a number of fans have written in proposing The GAP band -- standing for Garnett, Allen and Pierce, while also mimicking the name of the late-70s funk band. • One other tidbit from Boston I couldn't work in on Friday -- the agape mouths of Celtics personnel when Garnett was talking about Boston's wonderful weather. It's all about perspective, people. Fly in from Atlanta for the weekend and it feels a tad chilly. Show up after a decade in Minnesota, though, and apparently it seems like Tahiti. • And finally, for Golden State fans -- yes, you can pinch yourself. I said "league's longest playoff drought" above, and for the first time in eons your team's name didn't come up. Nothing we haven't been hearing for awhile now, but it's nice to see Hollinger not dragging the Hawks through the mud. The fact that more and more writers are actually paying attention to us, and not simple assuming we play in the WNBA anymore. I do like the "beast" comments about Horford.
  19. So let me ask you this being the conservative pick doesn't mean going for a higher ceiling. What I am saying is Childress a seasoned college player that was all-pac ten team award winner, is compared to freshman that was not as big of a factor at Duke. While Deng ceiling is higher you know what your getting in Chill. Thats minimizing risk. There was less of chance of Chill being a bust then Deng. Say what you want but thats the case. It is the same argument many made against MW and CP, however at the time that draft was as 1/2 as this years with Oden and Durant. Also why did Utah pass on Paul, thats a debate for another time. But to say Childress was not a more conservative pick which was my assertion is absurd.
  20. Lets look at this as a probability equation. There was clearly no way Indy would give up an unprotected pick. So that takes that out right away in negotiating. At the time of the trade Indiana was a annual playoff team. So if your BK what are the odds that the Pacers even fall into the lottery. I would say at the time of the trade those odds had to be about 75% unlikely. So it was "bad luck" that Indy had one tank year and slipped into the lottery. BK was taking luck out of the equation by saying top 10 protected, and not just lottery protected BK was hedging his bits. Thinking that there is only a small window that Indy would be in the lotto and even smaller that they would have great odds in being that high in the lotto. You can call it luck, but 2 years ago I want you to be honest and think if Indy would be a non-playoff lottery team. That's not likely. So how is it luck that you banked on a team not being in the top ten and it happened????????/ So this year if we trade with the Mavericks for a top ten protected pick in 2 years, would you call it luck if in two years we actually received that pick?
  21. I wouldn't call it luck. Most of us reasonable fans knew this would take time. You can't tear a team down and basically make it an expansion team, and create a deep, young, talented roster over night. BK asked for 5 years, same amount of time it took Chi, Det, and other recent rebuilding projects. Most of us didn't take the sky is falling approach, you point to a deep team that is well rounded, a team that we didnt take on large contracts and kill cap space, a team that has a bright future. Ummmm, you think any of that has maybe a little to do with the guy that built it. Everyone is quick to rip BK, but he took safe bets, and maybe didn't go out and risk getting ? players taking the sure bets in not drafting bust by going more conservative and taking Chill, Shelden, and Marvin ( at the time number 2 overall player as a posed to a small injury prone PG, someone still please tell me how many playoff games CP has won? anyone?) If you are going to bash the architect while he is building a building can you not at least give him a hint of credit when the building is done and you say it might work and not "Aw its luck that thing is standing" On a side note, I love everyone that hated Law on draft night was whining that he was a shot first PG and not a passer. Last game he had 5 of the 9 assist in the game. SO now everyone is worried and concerned he isn't shooting???? Can people just not be satisfied? So you wanted a passer and not a scorer, now he is that and people are worried about his scoring after 2 SL games
  22. Honestly, I have said this before Boston was supposedly interested in Shelden ALOT. They were picking around 8 or 9. I think this was the reason for the leak. I think BK wanted to scare Boston into trading up. What is there to lose? If you think Shelden is a guy you want, you get him or you get something in a trade and take the second rated player onyour board at 8 or 9. Teams do this all the time say they like this guy or that guy to up their value. If you are trying to trade a pick and you think a team likes a guy, then why not tell him you are taking him its not a horrible play like many make it out to be.
  23. I agree. I was one of the ones wanting Yi/Law. So by the same standard I am ok with Horford/Law. What I don't understand is during the season watching games I told everyone we need to get Indy's pick and take Law. He was clearly a PG we needed. Then Conley has a decent tourney and all the hype machines jump on the band wagon and all of a sudden nobody wants Law. So if we can get the PG that I wanted all year watching games at 11 and also get a PF/C in this draft I am very excited. I think having Speedy healthy and Law is going to be huge. Speedy can play against quicker smaller guards like Boykins, Ford, etc. Then we also have Law to play the Kidds and Billups.
  24. So the kid was raised by his dad to be a true PG and wouldn't let him shoot for the first 2 years he learned the game. He was voted the best college PG last year. Everyone points to his scoring. But name one other player on that Texas A&M team. Law has mentioned this and so did his coach. Law wanted to win and with that team to win he had to score. His coach has said he had to beg him to shoot more and pass less. Put him on a team with Oden, Cook, and the other players Conley had and I think he would have more assist and fewer shots. Everyone looks at his clutch shooting at the end of games as him being a shoot first pg, but if you watched a A&M game you would have seen the first 30 minutes a guy trying to get his team involved and distributing the ball, but then in the last 10 minutes he knows if he wants to win its on him. I see Law's shoot first label as that of necessity and not that of being his real game. For those comparing him to Salim they are forgetting one thing. Salim has always been a SG it was when he got to the NBA because of his size he had to become a PG. Law has always been and will always be a PG.
  25. so let me get this straight..... Salim, Marvin, then Shelden or ZaZa for Howard. WTF........... Our starting Sf, backup Sg, and starting center that makes pennies compared to other centers for another SF that may not be a huge upgrade over Marvin in the long run. Are you serious?????
