  1. Come on lets not go crazy here. I remember that Dion Glover used to tear it up in the summer leagues and suck in real competition. Summer leages show off mostly guards. Last year Bogut didn't play too well in their forst few summer games. If we had drafted another guard where would you have played them? They would ride the pine all year long. JJ is a SG, Chill is a SG / SF, Marvin is a SF / PF, Smoove is a SF / PF that is our wing players. We needed a PF / C and we got one. We also addressed our PG situation with Speedy. Sheldon reminds me a lot of the Davis brothers not always great stats but very good players who always bring it and are a VERY valuable peices to the team.
  2. I see these moves like the ones the Timberwolves made a couple of years ago getting Spree and Sam. I think that it will work for one year then backfire horribly on them.
  3. I think that the Hawks still need another PF and if we sign this forigen guy then it should fill that need I think that trading Delk and Collier will be another move that we make. Finally I think that we should look at signing Jay Williams I know he has been out of the league 2 years but the kid has talent and would be a good 3rd stringer.
  4. I think that by the time we break camp Collier will no longer be on the team and Edwards will be the # 3 C on the team at the very least he preformed well enough to stick with the Pacers last year so maybe he will be good practice fodder
  5. Im now living in KY and gas here is around $3.09 and it is expected to keep going up ($4.00+ a gal) what is it like where you are?
  6. PG JJ- I think that JJ will do ok at the point but I dont think that he will be great. I see him one day moving over to SG to be "The Man" Lue- Quality NBA B/U Nuff said Ivey- Just dont see him making it will prod spend the year in the DL, may one day be a BU SG Chill- All around player who needs to develop a more consistant shot. Still reminds me a lot of Pippen, which if he has Pippens work ethic then he will be a star for years to come Delk- Can anyone say trade bait? While he is a nice BU who can shoot his ending contract makes him valuable Salim- Little short to play the two with any constancy but not a PG either. He reminds me or good ole hot/cold John Starks. He should be a serviceable player coming off the bench. SF Smoove- What can this man not do? Well he still needs a lot of work on his game. While he may be a starter at SF this year I see his future as that of a PF. Marvin- He is another one of those all around players.I think that he will not become a superstar but insted develop much like Chill. I see him filling out and moving up to the PF position where he will put up very good numbers and help us when games just not be flashy about it (Duncan like humility). Donta- DL bound and I would think unlikely to make it in the NBA PF Al- I just dont see him next year with the Hawks. I'd say that he will be moved for either a PG or C. If he does stick around for the year I expect a monster year from him as he is the only established post threat. C Zaza- I think that he will be a quality big man who can score some and apply some Windex. His D is average for a starting big man what what I rememder which is a HUGE improvement Collier- Trade fodder and little else... Edwards- Six fouls against Shaq? I think that overall we will eventually see a slight shift in the way the Hawks play I would say that Al will be gone for a PG and that Zaza will show up big time. This team is starting to look like the early 90s Bulls team in the way it is being set up but I know that JJ isnt Jordan. I can see this working very well for us esp since PGs and Cs are so hard to find why not try it this way we will be able to run and play half court with almost anyone.
  7. Putting a winning team on the floor will generate more money since butts are filling the seats. I think that the owners will trust thier sports people on where to spend the money and how to build a winning team.
  8. Just saw that the Lakers got McKee so I dont see another team out there that will give him much more than the min so he should realise it and sign soon.
  9. I bet by the end of the night there is a ton of news.
  10. Lue got his rep in the NBA by being the guy who could shut down the other teams PG. Lue is a much better passer and PG than Ivey. At this point Ivey is headed for the NBADL or Europe likely b/c even on a bad team he couldnt produce I mean Donta isnt NBA material and he averaged an asst in 11 min should he run the point? Lue is an established NBA PG while he isnt really good enough to start he is a very good BU. JJ will play most min at PG but he will need to be spelled do you want a lost in the headlights player like Ivey or a vet who knows how to play in the NBA?
  11. I put him in there as someone we need to sign but I know that LAL are intrested in him but I hope we get him.
  12. PG - JJ / Salim - I dont include Ivey here b/c I think that if he is resigned he will be DL list material. I think that we will likely sign a B/U PG like Lue or someone of similar capicity. I think that Salim will be a John Starks kind of player who comes off the bench to shoot and to give energy. SG - Chill / Delk- I think that he will do very well this year and be a leader on the floor and an all around contributer. We will need a BU here Im thinking someone like D Johnson or Wallace would fit in nicely. Delk should be traded for whatever we can get for him which should be something since he is a good B/U with an ending contract. SF - Smoove / Marvin - Smoove will be the man here until Al is traded. Marvin I expect to be brought along in the same manner Smoove and Chill were last year you play what you earn. I think whoever is signed as a B/U for SG should also be albe to play SF as I'm not sure Marvin will quite be ready for full time prime time this year. PF - Al - I think that this will be Smmoves position as soon as BK can find a good deal. I think that Al will be traded for a C and it will allow Zaza to B/U both C and PF. If we could sign another young guy with promise then we will be good. C- Zaza / Collier - HELP! Zaza could one day turn out to be a good and serviceable C but right now he just isnt ready to be the man but a good B/U. Coller should just be sent packing. I think that we will have to trade Al for a C and then adjust from there. Right now we have 9 players under contract and a few holes. We need to sign a PG, SG/SF, PF and trade for a C of these only the C and needs to be of starters calaber. We have three tradeable assets in Al, Delk, and Collier since all are in the last year of their contracts I would like to think that the Hawks have their core going foward at every position except C. If Al can get us a good C and Marvin can make an impact this year we should be able to double our wins from last year. Playoffs might be a little too much to hope for but hey look at the Bulls last year.
  13. Ivey and Donta were second round picks who were filler I dont think that Donta will be back this year I think Ivey might be just to see what he can do he could in time be a #2 PG but now he is 10-12 on the bench material.
  14. The reason I say Al is gone is b/c its easier to get a PF than it is a C So you trade Al for a C and then trade Delk for a temp at PF. Al will most likely be getting big money next year do you want to pay him or let him walk I say get what you can for him.
  15. Al will prob have to be traded to get a C without majorly overpaying for one. So if you take him out of the rotation then you will need another BU. Plus the rookies will have to earn their min the coaches wont just hand it to them see last year.
  16. I was thinking about what the Hawks should do next to finish off the offseasonand here are my thoughts. 1) Resign Lue. - 3 years/ $6 mil would be about what he should make. He is a quality BU and a spark off the bench. Getting JJ is a true steal but we will need someone to spell him and I just dont think that Ivey is ready to be a major player off the bench yet. 2) Trade Al - I know this will be an unpopular move but It frees up a starting position for Smith and we should be able to get max value right now. Why not trade him to lets say NO and get Maglore or Chi for a C 3) Trade Delk - I just dont see him fitting in with the way this team will play. He is a decent SG and there are a few teams out there that need them. He is more expendable since he is in the last year of his contract. 4)Sign Zaza - Even if we are able to SNT Al for a C we will need a quality BU who is young and it also means we can use a huge lineup. 5) Sign Dermarr Johnson - He would be a good BU that would fit right into the Hawks roster. I personally would love to see Al traded for Maglore and with a couple of BU signings see what this team could do. We would be young and flexable and I think have a shot at the playoffs this year.
  17. NO doesnt have a bad contract but they have horrible owners. I wouldnt be suprised to see the team contracted or to be sold soon. If NO spent any of their money that they didnt have to I would be shocked.
  18. I think he ment that this was the worst NBA city to have the least talented team in or atleast that was the way i read it. If that is what he was saying its very true b/c the Hawks dont have many hardcore fans who are able to support the team even through tought times. Most of the fans are fair weather and will only go to the games if we are winning.
  19. I want to know what the conditions are for us getting the 1st we aquired from boston.
  20. I dont think that he should feel bad. Everytime that he has been healthy he has played his heart out. You cant blame a guy for having season ending injuries b/c he is playing as hard as he can.
  21. The reason we havent signed him is b/c we have a full roster. When we start to get people healthy then we might sign him.
  22. I dont think Smith will get passed up almost every game the Hawks play now he gets a top ten play with a dunk. The NBA pay attention to those things and they almost always have some exciting vets and some young players who are fun to watch.
  23. I think Den still has a couple of #1s for the draft and they need someone to play SG b/c Lenard is still out. It would fill a need for them and get us a lower first. The other players are thrown in to make the salaries work. Heck if they wanted Diaw then throw him in as well.
  24. I would say lets trade Delk, Collier and a second rd pick to Den for Tskitishvili, Russell, and a first rd pick. This would give us a project C/PF and a low first. It would give them a SG that they badly need and another big body who is no worse than what they are getting now from Tskitishvili.
  25. I dont think that is where we will go. This is a draft for PGs and its what we need. I know that Knight doesnt like to draft for position but I would be very suprised if when we pick there isnt a PG we like there then we trade up or down to get one. The bigs this year are all projects and likely wont be ready for primetime for a few years. I think the plan is to draft a PG and sign 1-2 big men even if we have to overpay.
