  1. Last Year: Antoine Walker = Cancer (gives you a lot, but gives it back on silly turnovers, ruins the rhythm in games) JC=Rookie JS=Rookie RI=Rookie DS=Rookie Two Centers with Perimeter Games in Drobnajk and Collier First time head coach Started Season with Barry, when we proved having another PG in Lue was better Weak Bench Loss a lot of close games late in the year THIS YEAR: Acquiring Joe Johnson cancels the loss of Walker, and provides us with better rhythm Zaza: a center that can play in the paint Batisita: PF/C that should give us more good paint play The 4 rookies are now sophmores. Marv another throughbreed on the team. Should help in several areas. Salim a deadeye shooter, and your never out of a game with his 3 point ability. Coach in his 2nd year Delk and Lue who provided us with quality minutes last year (sometimes as starters) now are bench guys Al who got his perimeter game better late in the year, has now extendend it to 3 Point Land Will now stand a much better chance in winning the close games, and hanging on to leads Winning More Games = More Confidence = Winning Games that you shouldn't win This isn't the same team we started with last year.
  2. Did you fill out the questionaire they had on the Hawks Website? They were going to give away 2 Laker Tickets. I think they were going to get a winner on Oct. 30th or 31st.
  3. Quote: Quote: 3-0 is reaching, but not unrealisticly. I actually could see this team being 4 and 1, with our only deafeat against the Lakers. 0-3: very possible 1-2:most likely 2-1:reaching 3-0: scientific impossibilty But if we do go 3-0, ill be everyone a beer at the Nov 10th game! 575 tickets sold X $7 Beer = A lot of money, that's almost a Hundred Dollars! I can't agree with "scientific impossibility". If the Heat, Spurs, and Pistons were our first 3 games, then I see what you mean. Even if you have a bad look on the Hawks, it isn't like the Warriors, Trail Blazers, and Clippers are anything great. Winning on the road is tough. That might give all 3 of these teams adavantages, and they may sweep us. What if our first 3 games was at home against these 3 teams. Is it still impossible to sweep?
  4. 3-0 is reaching, but not unrealisticly. I actually could see this team being 4 and 1, with our only deafeat against the Lakers. I figure after we strut our Hawksquawk Shirts at the Clippers Game, we will have a spike in people registering for this board. If our team wins it's 4th game on this night. Then this board will be crawling with new posters. If we only win 1 game on the 3 game road trip, then it be a big letdown. We are good enough to play with these teams, so why not go out and beat them!!!

  6. No one ever wants to say the first game of the season is a must win game. However, I think this is a good match up for us. Warriors are injured, and Magette might not be playing for the Clippers. We have a chance to take advantage of some injuries. I realize we have our own concerns in this area too. Durability is a concern heading into opener Contra Costa Times October 30, 2005 • Injuries, illness and other circumstances have slowed the Warriors' ability to prepare adequately OAKLAND -- Warriors coach Mike Montgomery's plan was to start the key players off slow. The first couple of preseason games, they would play about 25 minutes or so. As the preseason progressed, their minutes would increase. By the preseason finale, which was Thursday in Phoenix, the regulars would be up to 35 minutes. But injuries, illnesses and circumstances foiled that plan, leaving Montgomery a bit concerned heading into Wednesday's regular-season opener. The starting five has only been together for 21/2 of the seven games, with only forward Mike Dunleavy playing in each game. Guard Jason Richardson missed half of the second game vs. the Los Angeles Lakers in Hawaii and the game at Sacramento for personal reasons. Center Adonal Foyle missed the last three preseason games because of a sore left knee. Forward Troy Murphy missed two games because of the stomach flu. Point guard Baron Davis has been on a pitch count all preseason for fear of injury and missed the Los Angeles Clippers game in Montana to rest his ailing body. "We're not as healthy as we'd like to be," Montgomery said. "As a result of not being able to push in game shape we're probably not in the shape we'd like to be. "I would've liked to build the minutes up. ... Obviously, we weren't able to do that." Now Montgomery is worried the top players won't be ready to sustain a high level of play. There were so many flashes of dominance in the preseason. There were times the Warriors looked like world-beaters against their opponents' best players. But they were consistently stunted by fatigue and lost a lot of leads. Either the exhausted regulars gave up a run with their defensive lapses and poor shot selection, or the second unit failed to maintain the momentum. Montgomery has said he doesn't want to do the wholesale substitution thing. Instead he wants to sprinkle in reserves with the regulars. But he's worried he won't have a choice. "Right now," Montgomery said, "I don't know if your core guys can go 38-40 minutes." Diogu update Rookie forward Ike Diogu had his eye on Nov. 2. He wanted to be back from his broken left hand by the opener. But while X-rays taken Friday revealed progress, Diogu still has a ways to go before he'll see game action. "It's steal really swollen," said Diogu, who added he has another X-ray scheduled for Friday. "It's not as bad as it was." Diogu, who is still wearing a soft cast, has been running and shooting on the side. At Saturday's practice, he worked on his bank shot from the left side of the paint, though he caught and shot the ball with just the right hand, as he still can't put pressure on his left hand. "He's going to be re-evaluated Monday," Montgomery said. "I don't think they'll let him do much. As far as getting on the floor and actually playing, I'd say two weeks. Any sooner would be a bonus." Even after he's able to practice, Diogu will still need some practice time to get back in the flow. So if Montgomery's two weeks guess is right, Diogu could make his debut during the Warriors' second homestand -- a two-gamer against Chicago (Nov. 14) and Milwaukee (Nov. 16) -- or on the following two-game road trip at Portland and at the Los Angeles Clippers. If the preseason was any indication, the Warriors could sure use his interior presence. "If we put him out there, he's got to know where he needs to be," Montgomery said. "He's got to get in game shape. He's been running, but he's got to get in shape. "We're a little bit light on big guys," he added. "So Ike gives you a little different flavor there as far as a guy that's a big physical guy. ... If he comes along, I think he can contribute. It's just a question of how fast he can adapt to the NBA game." Tip-ins Rookie point guard Aaron Miles hasn't been told officially he's on the team. But he hasn't been cut yet. "They said this is our team," Miles said. "I'm still here. It's just a blessing." ... Tickets are still available for the season opener against the Atlanta Hawks. More information is available on www.warriors.com. Yahoo has their starting 5 as: PG Baron Davis SG Jason Richardson SF Mike Dunleavy PF Ike Digou C Troy Murphy With their injuries, this lineup might look a lot different. Not to mention Yahoo has our lineup as: PG Tyrone Lue SG Joe Johnson SF Josh Smith PF Al Harrington C Zaza Pachulia I'm not sure Murphy would start over Foyle at Center. Either way, they don't really have a team with size. I think we match up with them well. Losing this game, would be a rotten way to start. Especially if a couple of their starters don't play.
  7. I don't think I could beat any of them. I would probably have my best chance with Dickau. I can say for 100 percent sure I could beat Shaquille O'Neal in a free throw contest. Let us shoot 20, 50, or 100 and I would beat him at any of these. If your looking in Shaq, then I challenge you. We can do it for charity!
  8. I think we need him. Judging by the preseason stats. He's the consistent shot blocker on the team. Since we are preaching defense, then I think he's a keeper. When guys speak their mind or talk back to a coach. It is usually viewed as bad. Now if Michael Jordan or Shaq done it. It is viewed as their desire to win. So it depends on how you want to look at it. Our guys have had a rough preseason, so we need to have someone complaining. I haven't seen him in preseason. I do know his style is laid back. Giving him the relaxed, don't want to hustle look. His All Star Rookie Game I seen it clearly then. With Dominique on the board, and the Hawks needing to sell tickets. I would find it hard to believe that they would try to part with a super dunker like this. We may not win, but he's a crowd pleaser. I hate to make excuses for guys, but he is definately young enough to make up a few for.
  9. ATLANTA (AP) -- The Atlanta Braves named Roger McDowell their pitching coach on Saturday, replacing Leo Mazzone. McDowell, who pitched for 12 years in the major leagues, was pitching coach of the Los Angeles Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate at Las Vegas the past two seasons. Mazzone left the Braves after more than 15 years as pitching coach to take a lucrative, three-year deal with the Baltimore Orioles. During his tenure, Atlanta won 14 straight division titles and traditionally ranked among the top staffs in the National League. ``We are absolutely thrilled to add Roger to our staff,'' Braves manager Bobby Cox said. ``Roger was a great competitor as a player -- he started, he relieved and he even fought through arm problems, so he comes in a with great level of experience that our pitchers will learn from.'' McDowell pitched in 723 games -- mostly as a reliever -- during a career that included stints with the Mets and Dodgers, along with the Philadelphia Phillies, Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles. He had a 70-70 record with 159 saves and a 3.30 ERA. In 1986, McDowell was a member of New York's World Series-winning team. He went 14-9 with 22 saves in 75 games. McDowell was pitching coach for the Class-A South Georgia Waves in 2002 and '03. ``He is one of the true up-and-coming teachers of the game,'' Cox said. ``He has a great knowledge of pitching, and the reviews and evaluations we had on him were tremendous.'' McDowell will certainly be under more scrutiny than most pitching coaches. Mazzone became one of the most respected instructors in the game and a well-known personality in Atlanta, instantly recognized for his constant rocking in the dugout. During Mazzone's tenure, the Braves had six Cy Young Award winners and nine 20-game winners. ``I have such strong respect for Bobby Cox and (Braves general manager) John Schuerholz,'' McDowell said. ``They have built a very highly regarded organization and one that I am proud to represent. This is a very exciting time for my family, and I'm looking forward to meeting the challenges and expectations that are synonymous with Atlanta Braves baseball.''
  10. Anyone been watching the games on ESPN Classic? They are showing a lot of games. They showed the Celtics/Hawks Game last night at 2 AM, which with the new time, it was actually 1 AM.....lol. Not sure who won it. I fell asleep. It was in 1985 and it was a regular season game. Not the infamous Playoff Game of 86'. Everyone in that game was a ball hog. It was a very fast paced game. Antoine Carr had two monsterous dunks. They kept referring to us, as the "baby birds". Hey we could be called the Baby Birds this year too. They are going to show the Hawks and Bulls at 3 today (Sunday). So with no Falcons Game this week, might be something worthwhile watching. I'm just craving basketball, and this helps to past the time. Wednesday will be the rough day. Waiting til 10:30 for the Hawks to play. Anyone wanting to watch that 1985 Celtics/Hawks Game. They will replay it at 7AM Monday on ESPN Classic. Get to see guys like Eddie Johnson, Randy Wittman, Doc Rivers, a very slim Antoine Carr and Kevin Willis, a young Mike Fratello, plus the short shorts.....lol. Also, some of you may remember that guy named Ray something. He was a really talented player, got drafted by the Knicks I think. Then he ruinned his career with drugs, and getting in trouble with the law. He was just signed by Boston before this game. They comment he is overweight, but should be in shape for the playoffs. I seen a few flashes of his game, but would like to see some older games when he was lighting it up.
  11. So, what do you guys eat on gameday? I feel bad for those that have to wake up early, and watch a game that will go past midnight locally. Any special gameday rituals?
  12. Yeah, I been debating to wear mine to the Lakers Game. Just think it might take some of the fun out of the Clippers Game if I did.
  13. He's the new pitching coach. Why? I'm not sure. Hopefully Braves will make a splash in free agency. I see Kevin Milwood declared for free agency. I would like to get him back. Not so sure he would come back. After getting traded for a minor league catcher.
  14. I like White's Game. I wonder why he got cut.
  15. Wow! No love for Ming and Swift? A 7'6" Center, and a PF that can jump out of the gym and gets off the floor as fast and easy as Josh Smith? I can't think of how to rank these, but this has to be a top 5 combo.
  16. Most impressive stat might be the 1 turnover that Marv had in 38 Minutes of action. Of coarse, preseason stats usually aren't too acurate when it comes to turnovers, blocks, and steals.
  17. So, when was they going to give away the tickets. I filled it out. I just forgot when they were going to draw for it. Anyone remember the date?
  18. Marv is a bust! Hey Zaza with 3 blocks, nice! Our starters were all over 30 minutes.....and they had no guys over that....lol.
  19. 104 to 90!!! HAWKS WON!!! 4th Quarter......Hawks 30 Hornets 16 THEY RUSH TO THE STREETS OF PEACHTREE!!!!!!! BUCKLE UP.........HERE WE GO......LOOK OUT WARRIORS!
  20. 102 to 88.......1 Minute left. Cross your fingers, maybe we can hold on!!!
  21. 98 to 84 Hawks Winning big now!!! 3 Minutes left.....
  22. Hawks start 4th off strong. Winning 9 to 4.....with 8+ Minutes left. Hawks up by 5!
  23. Tied at the end of the 3rd Quarter. 74 to 74 1st Quarter......Hawks 26 Hornets 17 2nd Quarter......Hawks 24 Hornets 27 3rd Quarter......Hawks 24 Hornets 30
  24. New Orleans is up by 1 late in the 3rd quarter.
