    Out of position

Not having a PF/C (or if you consider ZaZa a PF) is killing us on the boards... It was so upsetting to watch New Orleans time after time get 2nd, 3rd chance opportunities with offensive rebounds... Marvin Williams tryin' to guard/box out Andersen? He doesn't stand a chance... I still would like to see Batista (or Edwards) get more minutes WITH ZaZa... I think with more minutes Batista would show his relentless on the boards like ZaZa does... His overall game may still be lacking, but at least he'd give us another big body down low that is NOT AFRAID to mix it up unlike our other forwards (i.e. the Josh's & Marvin)... Also, as long as he doesn't try to shoot too much, puttin' Koncack, I mean Edwards, in there with ZaZa... His rebounds/minute are 2nd best behind ZaZa's... Granted he ain't the most talented individual to watch out there but what he brings to the court fills a role we need right now... I'm tired of only seeing ZaZa under the basket for rebounds (3 against 1 everytime it seems)... Too often, Josh Smith stands and watches shots go up on the offensive end instead of crashing to the basket... I almost wish he wasn't confident in his shot (like last year) so he would drive to the basket more... When he's open on the perimiter, he should drive to the basket... I don't think many people will be gettin' in his way ('specially with the blocking arc near the basket)... And please don't get me started on Childress (ok, too late)... His rebounding numbers are among the team's worst (0.3 off reb/min & 0.15 def reb/min only our PG's (JJ/Lue/Salim/Ivey have worst numbers)... I could understand it if Childress was our leading shot taker (like JJ; with weaker rebounding totals than Childress) but he's not... He's timid and afraid to mix it up down low... Lineup I'd like to see: Salim/JJ/Harrington/ZaZa/Edwards Still without a true PG (Salim turns it over too much). You have all the offensive you need in Salim/JJ/Harrington and then have big bodies down low for rebounding. With those 3 taking the majority of the shots gives ya two guys that can concentrate on the boards. Only problem with that lineup is when you get into foul trouble with ZaZa/Edwards. Only big body you have left to come in is Batista. So you'd be forced to play some small ball but at least not for the whole game like we currently are. Another aspect of the Hawks game that needs emphasis/practice/coaching is our pick and roll defense. It's horrendous and lazy. Our 2-3 matchup zone (lazy man defense), leaves WAY TOO many gaps for offensive boards... For a team that doesn't already box out well, just makes things worse.
  2. Now don't get me wrong, I love seein' the offense but were back to the JT problem again with Salim out there... He's not good enough at point and neither is JJ... So what ya have are two SG's out there at the same time... Then when ya put a PG out there (do we really have one?), then we have two shorties out there and have defensive matchup problems... Not to mention rebounding problems...
  3. As I mentioned in another post... I was the guy that brought the rowdy crew in section 121/j/1-4... Also, brought the dance winner... I was sitting in the aisle seat.. Big guy with red t-shirt... Hittin' people comin' down the aisle with my thundersticks by mistake.. lol
  4. It was amazin' how many people we're talkin' to him on the way out... And even when we were in our car people we're rollin' down their window to shout out at him... lol And when he got home and told his wife.. The first thing she asked was... "And just WHO were you dancing with?!?!" lol
  5. Was my buddy... I was sittin' in 121/J/seat 1... I think my friends had to be the rowdiest ones there last night... Think he started the alien chant... lol Sorry for the obsceneties they were shoutin' all night... They didn't care for Koncack, I mean Edwards, too much... I think our whole section gave a standing ovation when Woody took him out... Finally, Woody had the balls to sit out both Josh's for a significant amount of time... And imagine this, we were in the game for the most part... Was very impressed with Al's defense towards the end... If we can get that much effort out of a guy with a bum ankle, why can't the rest of the guys step it up... Al was all over the place at the end of the game... I just felt like our players were fatigued at the end and weren't given the typical early 4th quarter rest due to our lack of depth and it showed towards the end of the game... Just wish we had a PF that could get in there and bang like Pachulia does... Ya can't dismiss his desire and hustle... Although I felt like it was a momentum shifter when he failed to shoot the open shot... I did like the combination of Lue or Salim/JJ/Marvin/Al/Pachulia for the majority of the 4th quarter... Just wish we could replace Lue with some more muscle down low for rebounding purposes... Because a majority of the time, it's only Pachulia down there (hence him leading the league in offensive rebounds)... Missed critical shots down the stretch when we needed to hit them and that's the signs of a young team... Did like the pick and roll with JJ & Harrington... Would like to see more of that late in the game with Salim on the weak side waitin' for an open 3 when JJ collapses the defense on the drive and Zaza waitin' for an offensive board on the opposite side of the glass... Classic Lenny Wilkens offense late in games... Nonstop pick and rolls..
  6. Back at the end of the 2003/04 season with Stotts coachin'... We were actually winning at a 50% clip towards the end of that season and the games were fun/exciting to watch? When Stotts decided to go to a 3pt barage lineup... It was unreal how many 3s we were hittin' and how fun that team was to watch... - Bob Sura (was looking like the 2nd coming of Jason Kidd with his triple doubles) - Stephen Jackson (playin' the role as leader) - JT (shootin' 35% from 3pt land) - Crawdaddy (knockin' down his 3pt set shot at a 39% clip) I thought that Stotts had bought himself another year with that run but it wasn't to be... I remember thinking on one hand, I liked to see them winning... But on the other, we were losin' lottery balls... lol Oh well... Back to reality of what we've got now...
  7. The lack of toughness comment... That's why I'd like to see Pachulia/Batista in there... They get their money's worth on fouls...
  8. I agree limiting the Josh's minutes because they are giving us nothing... J Chill gets schooled last nite on the defensive end and looks like Diaw on the offensive end.. J Smith eats Odom's (or whomever it may be) dust on the way to the basket and has fallen in love with his jumper way too much on the offensive end... I know they've gotta have time on the court to mature and grow but right now they aren't offerin' much...
  9. Yea.. The whole Kobe "please give me a foul" really ticked me off last night... But that's the NBA... Both Josh's are killing us right now... After Chill got schooled by Kobe the first time, why did he ever man up against him the rest of the game when JJ was on the court?!?! I'd like to see Lue/JJ/Harrington/Batista/Pachulia in there when we are at that critical juncture of the game in the 2nd half where we seem to lose it. I know people may scratch their heads with Batista, but I want some freakin' muscle in there with two people that are willing to rebound instead of bein' outnumbered 3-1 on the boards... Plus, our offense is then goin' thru our "vets". Doesn't get in the hands of one of our young guys (i.e. the Josh's) to f it up... JJ really impressed me with his ball handling last night... Loved it when he left Kobe in his dust several times... His defense on Kobe was the best of any Hawk... What really ticked me off last night (almost as much as the phantom fouls on Kobe) is the continuation of seeing Josh Smith gettin' beaten off the dribble and he trails his guy to the basket for a layup... Woody needs him to cover the weakest offense threat on the other team (SF, PF, or even a defensive minded C) so that he can "help" when his teammates need him in the paint and make use of his shot blocking ability... Was impressed with Pachulia on the blocks as well... 2nd half turnovers overshadowed a great effort from him... Pachulia, Harrington, & Lue are the only ones I have faith in from the charity stripe... As someone else mentioned.. It burns me to see NBA players miss so many FT's... JJ (.588), JChill (.611) after last year .823, Salim (bein' the shooter he is) only 70%? I also agree with an earlier post about the lack of timeouts from Woody... It seems that he strictly abides by the TV timeouts... And when Josh Smith got soundly beat by Odom, left him in the game... Make a statement and yank his booty... J Chill, when you attack the basket, pull a Laimbeer/Kobe and start making some noise when you attack the rim for some calls... Lord knows you have to be open by 10 feet or so to get off that ugly shot of yours... I think Chris Dimino said it perfectly this morning... Teams know they only have to play one good quarter against us to beat us... It's like the Braves of the 80s... Get'm to the bullpen/2nd half and laugh at them all the way to a win... Time to bring a coach in that players will play for and respect...
  10. Yep, that's it exactly... He'll be our Tony Delk for years to come... When we need a boost, he'll come in... But it comes back to the Jason Terry problem as far as matchups... A small #2 out there, you almost have to have JJ out there to guard the taller 2 guard... His defense does have a long way to go, but for now, I seem him only comin' in for stretches to open things up in the middle...
  11. Huge disappointments first game: Woodson, Stoudamire, & Childress Why in the heck does Woodson have two rookies (MW & SS) in there to try and answer the Warriors run in the 3rd? The fact of the matter is Montgomery made adjustments at halftime and Woodson didn't. Golden State starting spreading the court on the offensive end and moved the ball around for open 3s. When Baron hurts himself on the fast break, no one has the presence of mind to isolate him and go after him. Woodson, hello? Oh never mind, just rest your head on your hand with that disappointed look on the bench that is sending wonderful messages to your team. We did do a good job of attacking the rim on the offensive end... Just couldn't finish a lot of the time... Is Josh Smith now in love with his outside jumper? Is he not going to attack the rim anymore? Substitution patterns are just way off right now in my opinion and is understandable early on... I sure hope Woodson is only around to suffer through the rebuilding stage and that we get a real coach when these young players have some years under their belt...
  12. "His enormous wingspan and his ever alert hands make him a constant steal threat." How big can a kid's wingspan be at the age of that pic? lol I think BK just does a google search everyday to start his day.... keywords: enormous wingspan basketball potential Just kiddin'... What BK has done for this franchise is reinstate hope...
  13. Just makin' sure no one has received their tix... I was out of town for a long period and just want to make sure I didn't miss them... Haven't seen confirmation email from ticketmaster so I presume they still haven't been sent....
  14. I think that for the majority of the games Lue will be our starting PG and will see 30+ mins a game. I think it'll come down to who's playin' better or is showin' the effort between the Josh's... Plus, you always have the injury bug that will eventually hit us and take away this luxury... I think the JJ @ point will eventually be somethin' that Coach Woodson visits durin' the game for a 10-15 min. stretch or so... I think you'll see some centerless ball as well (both Josh's in) when matchups allow it as some of the staff have alluded to (and saw some towards the end of last year)...
  15. You are da man Bruce... 4 tix purchased... Genius... Thanks for the offer!
