Boondocks
In reply to: Lucky to be alive -- DerMarr Johnson, out for the year after suffering a fractured neck, now attends Hawks games wearing a neck collar and smiling. But he might never play again. "He can live a perfectly normal, active life, but I don't know if that can include basketball," Hawks team physician Mike Bernot said. "He suffered two very serious fractures. We won't know for a year if he can play again, and we may not know then. This is a terrible injury. To understand how lucky he is, take a walk through Shepherd Spinal Center and look at the people, kids, who are in there. DJ is so lucky to be walking around and on his way to healing. Lucky to be alive. "If he had had surgery after the wreck it would have been impossible for him to play again. By allowing it to heal naturally someone in his situation might have a 50-50 chance."
