AJC: Memphis Grizzlies at No go for Joe Johnson

Hawks guard Joe Johnson (elbow) was ruled out for the team’s game against the Grizzlies tonight at Philips Arena.

Johnson woke up with discomfort Tuesday and underwent tests later day. Hawks coach Larry Drew said he didn’t know the results but indicated that Johnson was to get a second opinion today.

“This is something that clearly had to be looked at,” Drew said. “As of yesterday, he could not extend his arm. I just don’t see him being any better today.”

Drew said Mo Evans would start in Johnson’s place. He said Jamal Crawford and possibly rookie Jordan Crawford would see increased playing time.

Johnson had played in all 18 games this season and has missed just eight games due to injury since the 2007-08 season.

“I certainly have to make some adjustments because he is a big part of what we do,” Drew said. “We do have a lot of motion [offense], but he is still the guy who breaks the defense down and can go find his shot when he wants to.”
