The John Calipari led Dominican Republic advances to the second round at the FIBA Americas Championship with play resuming Monday morning. Atlanta's Al Horford was key in building the Dominican Republic's 3-1 record in the preliminary round leading the team with an average of 20.5 points per game.

Argentina is an overwhelming favorite in the tournament and the race could be for second place as both teams that find themselves in the championship game will qualify for the 2012 London Olympics no matter the outcome of this tournament. Places 3rd - 5th will be added to the last chance qualifying tournament to be held next July.

Horford and company face off against Panama on Monday but then the competition starts to climb significantly. Tuesday the Dominican Republic will take on Uruguay which will match Horford against former Hawks big man Esteban Batista. Wednesday brings Puerto Rico with NBA players like J.J. Barea, Carlos Arroyo, and Renaldo Blackman before the big match up with Manu Ginobli and Argentina on Thursday.
