Squawkers Hawksquawk Posted October 9, 2011 Squawkers Report Share Posted October 9, 2011 We didn't understand how it couldn't happen, and now the New York Times' Howard Beck reports that it will in fact happen. The top negotiators from the league and the players' union are meeting Sunday night in an effort to bridge the remaining gap and save the season before Monday's deadline. The meeting will involve the primary negotiators for each side - Commissioner David Stern and the deputy commissioner Adam Silver for the league, with the union represented by its president, Derek Fisher, and its executive director, Billy Hunter. It remains to be seen whether or not all of the issues from the lockout could be solved on Sunday night. The more likely scenario would have the league and the players' association agreeing on some compromise involving the revenue split. After that was completed, then they could get back to work on Monday to finish off the other parts of the deal. The good news is that neither side seemed to be willing to simply let the Monday deadline pass. It is that kind of urgency that will get this deal done. Stay tuned.
