The Beltline everyone knows about, but take a look at a map of it, then look at a map of new developments on Curbed and tell me what you see. Also the Streetcar will have a total of 6 legs that will link tons of the city. Then there's the MultiModal Passenger Transport Station, which will sit directly across from the ATLANTA entrance to Phillips that is going to be an amazing game changer. It's going to link downtown to the West Side far more cohesively. I sorta work with this stuff and can tell you the City knew they were about to be thrown under a very large PR bus. The Braves timed it just after the Falcons announcement for a reason. The City also has plans for downtown that will make the Braves regret leaving. In town living is going to be the way to go in 15 years with all the projects on the books. Kasim's biggest problem is his temper, if he could ever control it, he'd be okay.

A night at Phillips is actually really nice compared to the Falcons and Braves. Tickets to the Falcons are expensive compared to both. And the NFLs entry procedures are arduous. But then moving 70,000 drunken fans is pretty hard. The Braves comes down to a logistics issue and what has to be resentment over roster construction, a faceless owner, and the move to Cobb.

It's not that I think David McDavid was going to be a great owner. I want to know what it was that the NHL& NBA approved, and Turner sold around him for. And they broke a law to do it which cost them 100s of millions. How much worse than ASG was he?

So I'm inordinately amused by professional sports ownership issues, structure and over all business organization. And I'm not sure anyone has really hit the head on how big the Hawks ownership change is for the NBA, the city and fans. The original sale to ASG should absolutely be questioned right now. What was so bad/wrong with David McDavid that the NBA and NHL were complicit in allowing the illegal sale of the teams to ASG to begin with? What sort of economic stress test was given to ASG? Even if Belkin wasn't out, they tried to immediately sell the hockey team implying that they didn't have enough operating capital. Additionally if one of the 9 headed Hydra died, was there any guarantee the remaining members could operate at a functional level? Gearon is a HUGE problem for the league. His business practices can't survive in this league. Taping conversations and releasing snippets to the public while denying them to the governing/disciplining body is ridiculous on every single level. What he's done is tantamount to blackmail. THAT is far more damaging than anything Ferry or Levenson have done. Who does a deal with him? Who talks to him? Who can be sure he's dealing in good faith? Ferry's relationships will be a cakewalk to repair compared to Gearon. I'm sure every GM/Agent from the BK/Sund era are checking emails to see if they sent anything that could damage them. Gearon with this one tactic, and over his squabble with Levenson/Ferry, has altered the way the League does business. So where does this leave the team going forward? Atlanta is a top 10 market. Half of the NBA and NFL live here during the off season. It's the home of two huge League partners. Phillips arena is rated as high as 4 in a survey of NBA arenas. We consistently have the highest NBA viewership ratings as a 3rd party city during the playoffs if the Hawks aren't playing. I think the team being moved is a non-starter. Silver has seen what Seattle losing the Sonics did. So I don't think they'll even entertain moving the team unless were immediately granted a replacement expansion team. Conceivably, Atlanta should be able to compete with any market outside of NY, LA and Chicago on a dollar for dollar level. San Francisco may enjoy a slight advantage due to being coastal. The same for Miami and the Texas markets due to no state income tax. The problem has and will continue to be leadership. If the NBA wants success here, and I have every reason to believe they do, I think the right thing is being done by the NBA partnering with Koonin and the City to find new owners. I think the city's assistance will be a payment of the $110 million loan ASG took out from the NBA in 2010 in exchange for a 20 year guarantee that the Hawks will remain at Phillips. I believe that Koonin remaining will be a part of any deal. I also think if any of the Atlanta partners are allowed to stay is will be in a less than 20% ownership capacity. The league will want one clear owner going forward. We've heard that there are six parties interested. So far they include: A Chinese billionaire NY hedge fund manager Clive Davis's kid Nique (supposedly pre-approved) Secret Group A (Grant Hill's group that tried to buy the Clippers?) Secret Group B ( Jim Kennedy) I don't think Arthur Blank or Bernie Marcus would be involved. Nique would have to partner with another group to be the face of ownership, so I could see him with Jim Kennedy or the Chinese billionaire. Either one of these scenarios could also result in Ferry staying. If Grant Hill's group is in the running and they take over, I could see Ferry staying as well. I don't take Clive Davis' kid seriously. He's putting together a group. There are still 4 members of the Atlanta wing of ASG and I can't see the league allowing another 9 headed monster. The hedge fund manager is the wildcard. Is he real? Is he really ready to outbid people? How much control will he want to exercise immediately? I honestly think the most realistic options are the hedge fund manager or the Chinese billionaire with Koonin and Nique as the face. I'm leaning towards the Chinese billionaire because the league wants China as a market as do it's sponsors. Georgia and Atlanta do a TON of business in China. My last prediction: Ferry is back Christmas day.

I don't think Bebe is a completely wasted pick. Under the Ferry regime its clear that they wan't big men who can shoot and move the ball. If you limit the comparison criteria to that, you get rid of Gorgui Deing, Mason Plumlee and Rudy Gobert as they are all more traditional post centers or not the caliber of passers Ferry/Bud want. The next one with the skillset? We took him with Muscala. I would have rather had a player who could have produced something, but we lacked roster spots at any other posistion (4 Cs, 4 PF, 3 SF, 3 SG, 4PG used last year.) I absolutely believe that whatever Ferry saw when he was scouting both Muscala and Bebe when they played in ACB contributed to him being traded. Maybe it was durability, skill set, or desire to fight through adversity. We have to consider that Muscala beat out Bebe for a spot with his play. With ASG we also have to consider money. Would they balk at paying any of his buy out. Do they refuse to pay more than one first round pick? Mike Scott is the only 2nd round pick to play immediately and that was during our transition year. Muscala played abroad until the numbers became more favorable for the Hawks. Pittman and Edy this year are playing overseas. I guess it comes down to a few questions: Do we draft BPA or need? Ferry seems to draft need. Were there any players at any position that fit our system and were available after we picked? Ferry deemed the answer to be no Were Muscala and Bebe in a competition for a roster spot? Is the overseas development for actual development or to save money? I think its a combination of both. What is the actual market for the player? ie Was this the best deal. In the end Bebe cost us nothing and "made" us money by helping clear money for player who will play right now.

I was a HUGE BK supporter, but Marvin over Paul is what landed us in the past decades quagmire. BK was experimenting with something that I think was worth experimenting with (6'5" or taller players at every position) but failed at recognizing transcendent talent when it was right in front of him. Sund was a tool of Gearon who just worked as a place holder. Babcock, Deke and LaPhonso Ellis are his two biggest signings. but he was great at trades. I want him in the organization for that purpose ALONE. I want him nowhere near a draft. Also HE TRADED NIQUE. -1,000,000,000,000 points for that alone. Ferry has a plan that works with what his coach wants, which is different from the other three. We have flexibility and all of our picks. I know people are upset about BeBe, but Tavares could be better. We can only look at what's actually been on the floor. John Jenkins and Dennis need to show something this year.

I think there are likely conditions on the sale which may be why it may take some time. Koonin and Bud's contracts may have to be honored in full. Ferry's for at least two years.
