  1. I don't think he can force them to sell, but i think any buyers may want the whole thing.
  2. We STILL haven't heard the rest of the tape. I want to know what Gearon hasn't let anyone hear yet.
  3. Gearon is like the kid who snitches on the kid they hate, but in the end a field trip or afternoon treat gets canceled.
  4. When it comes to million dollar contracts, words can do a ton of damage.
  5. Does anyone know if the league centralizes reports like this? Was this something that was sitting as a resource on NBA servers for teams to pull down at their discretion when looking at players to save time and money? If this was a conglomeration of reports that the NBA makes available that could also be a huge problem for them.
  6. Nique buys the team with Bernie Marcus' money Koonin, Nique and Bud become the new public brain trust. Koonin beomes GM in title. Ferry is pushed to the background to do all the actual GM work. New uniforms in 2015-2016 to reflect the Nique era. Extra national games given to Hawks. Random low level firings around the NBA once we hear that comments like these litter reports. Zach Lowe and Woj get their hands on more reports on different teams/players Silver has to address systemic problems at the scouting level.
  7. I bolded the best parts. One he's pre-approved which makes this quick and its "businessman" singular. No more 9 headed Hydra
  8. Gearon doesn't have the money or he would have bought it already.

  10. Will y'all indulge a slight conspiracy theory? I think Ferry did read someone else's report. I think it came from Cleveland which is why its stopping here. With Cleveland set to be media darlings again I think the NBA would readily sacrifice Atlanta in the short term.
  11. My full opinion of the canard of the Omni/Phillips being unsafe goes back to the mid-90's. Back in the days before the area is what it has become it was a light industrial area. There was talk of building a new arena and the Sandy Springs/GA 400 area was determined to be the best spot. Two things stopped that. 1) The Olympics 2) Ted Turner Ted was committed to downtown. In the way Arthur Blank is now. That era was also the genesis of the "arena as urban renewal". You could say in the case of Phillips it worked when combined with the changes the Olympics brought. The Georgia Dome is on the back side of all of that development and arguably worse off because it faces Vine City. However the Falcon's haven't experienced anywhere NEAR the attendance problems of the Hawks. White fans didn't stay away from the Thrashers in the same building, but I'd add that knowing what we know now ASG intentionally marketed the hockey team to white fans only. Other than the 2 Live Stews doing "Soul on Ice" nights, which I think they did themselves, there wasn't a real attempt to engage the city as a market rather a portion of it. I believe for a season or two the arena league team played in Phillips as do the Dream. None of them have ever reported any problems. So this idea of Phillips being a "dangerous" place is really only brought up when it comes to Hawks basketball. Its a reason people give to stay away.
  12. The only way Ferry can save himself is to release not only that scouting report, but any and all written by that person.
  13. I'm starting to think Levenson maybe falling on the sword for the NBA. If intel reports like this are out there, how many did the original writer write? Are there more people who think this way? Has it affected any personnel decisions?
  14. I'm willing to bet the NBA has dispatched people to Arthur Blank and are looking to give him the Michael Jordan deal. Just take this and cover the costs, get paid on the appreciation of the asset.
  15. A lot of the Phillips area being unsafe narrative came from NASCAR of all places. Back when they were deciding where to put their Hall of Fame, Atlanta and Charlotte were the two finalists. Some old school NASCAR muckity muck said "Would you want to be out down there after dark?" And it took off from there.
  16. As a black person, I'm pissed off that he boiled things down to race in the most ham-fisted and lazy way. Atlanta has the most affluent black community in the nation with LOADS of disposable income. They've done nothing as an organization to ingrain themselves in the communities of the city. No one has a reason to care. It's been 10 years of ownership and they are just now putting a team worth watching on the field. I just left a packed Georgia Dome filled with all kinds of people. They played all kinds of music and everyone spent money. But the base product, the team, is worth watching.
  17. I think the NBA is headed this way in all honesty. Only change I'd make to the Hawks is using the Pac-Man logo instead. https://www.behance.net/gallery/18769939/NBA-to-football
  18. That's one aspect of the primary discussion, and @Diesel showed the end result of good drafting and development. Parker and Ginobli coming in and becoming developed parts of the "new" big 3 of which Duncan was the constant.
  19. It's not that the Big 3 existed, or even how much space they took up. It's that they surrounded them with old players and no one to take the burden off the big three and towards the end LeBron. Good picks where ever you draft them, and good value young vets and that window is extended. That's where the Heat and many teams fail. They overpay for the Udonis Haslems and when their production drops you have a team that's upside down in a contract, rather than a younger player they've developed at a lower cost who will get better.
  20. I gotta get my NBA fix somehow. I know I was harsh on Lou, and I don't think it was the injury that was his problem, but more that when things broke down, he resorted to his instincts rather than keeping with the play. With Bebe, has there ever been a big man that played well after knee injuries started? And he was in a play once a week league. He may not be built for a 4 games in 5 nights stretch. That's a recipe for chronic knee and possibly back issues.
  21. I was listening to Bill Simmons podcast with Brian Windhorst, and Windhorst made what could have been the most insightful statement in regards to the breakup of the Big Three in Miami. Paraphrased, it was that the break up of the Big 3 began the day after the first Announcement. Miami dealt two 1st round picks to Cleveland, 2 first round picks to Toronto and 1 more pick to another team. They only had 2nd round picks in 2010 and 2011, traded 2012's pick to Philly, nothing in 2013. None of those players are on the roster and they surrounded LeBron with an aging roster that was breaking down. The only capable #2 player on the roster, Chris Bosh, could never wrest that spot away from DWade. They didn't develop any new pieces to surround him and take some of the load off. Now look at Atlanta's roster/player development: Paul Milsap - Developed a dependable 3 point shot Jeff Teague - Best season as a pro (possibly due to Josh being gone as well) DMC - much more capable offensively than anyone hoped Mike Muscala - 2nd round pick that actually contributes John Jenkins - Jury is still out Dennis - Possibly most raw talent, just needs to be harnessed Shelvin Mack - 2nd round pick by Wizards to capable back up/spot starter Mike Scott - 2nd round pick that contributes, brings more than he takes away. Edy Tavares - 2nd round pick playing overseas Lamar Patterson - 2nd round pick playing overseas Adreian Payne - signed pick 9 out of the current 16 players under the Hawks control are "home grown". That number includes two of our best 3 players. Since Ferry got here we've not wasted a pick. Even our signed players have gotten meaningful minutes.Cartier Martin, Gustavo Ayón, Dexter Pittman, Elton Brand all received more time than they would have on most other playoff teams. The only players we seem to have gotten rid of are the chronically injured (Ayón, Bebe), those with low basketball IQ (Smoove, Cunningham, Lou, Cartier), or those who couldn't get with Bud's program ( Smoove, Lou, Cunningham) This leads me to three thoughts. We may not get a LeBron, but depending on the playoffs we look more appealing to Marc Gasol or Kevin Love. to sign outright. If we make a trade, the cupboard would never truly be bare. We have the ability to "restock" players with skill sets we may lose. Our development system is good enough to possibly mitigate losses.
  22. I see this as a locker room move. He's someone everyone seems to like and could have a post-player role in the organization.
