  1. Andersen is an accomplished player who could help Hawks' frontcourt rotation... He's got very good mid range game and can hold his own down low, plus he's got experience!
  2. All this means that Hawks need to be pro-active and try to find a way to get Speedy's salary off our backs. I think Hawks could make a strong case with the NBA (circumstances obviously work in our favor)... That would certainly provide Hawks with more cap-space for whatever future moves they might plan and carry out... Second thing, if we come to understanding that there's not going to be possible to sign Chillz in the off-season... we need to face that music and act accordingly, which means TRADE THE MAN, in order to get any value in return (no matter how cold it may sound).
  3. Quote: I think Sacramento wouldn't even ask for Marvin if they were able to dump Miller's large contract. They have Hawes and Moore to replace him. Exactly! Plus, Brad Miller is not a low post threat anyway! Don't get me wrong, I would like to add a guy like Miller, but I believe it would take much less than a package including Marvin... Marvin is still so young and good to give up on him!
  4. Doesn't our Chillz look like Hessian Horseman from Sleepy Hollow (Christopher Walken) on his lay-ups and dunks?! Just take a look... [image]http://imagecache2.allposters.com/images/pic/MMPH/239816~Christopher-Walken-Posters.jpg[/image] [image]http://www.nba.com/hawks/photogallery/Best_of_January_2008.html?curPhoto=11[/image]
  5. Quote: Quote: I think we scored 6 points within 10 seconds after Jersey made a shot. We definitely ran more, and took more quick shots, after misses. That 6 points can be the difference between winning and losing a game for a team that struggles in the halfcourt like the Hawks. One thing that doesn't show up in the box score is the fact that the Hawks have more time on the shot clock when they push the ball up the floor. if the opponents know that the Hawks will run even after makes then they will be less likely to crash the offensive glass. A really key issue is that it keeps the Hawks in an aggressive mindset. Too many times they have tightened up late in games. Staying in attack mode makes that less likely. Exactly! We're basically playing the type of ball that limits our strenghts - athleticism, young legs, points in the paint...
  6. Winners keep winning, losers keep on losing... I am just fu**** pisssed! This means that we could have had Gasol for Marvin and exp. contract or two! What a waste!
  7. Quote: Quote: Atlanta out: Zaza Pachulia, Josh Childress, Tyronn Lue, future 1st (lotto protected in 2010, top-5 protected in 2011, unprotected thereafter) in: Andre Miller, David Noel, Calvin Booth, 2009 ORL 2nd They finally get a good PG in Miller to lead their scorers. AJ can now go back to a more suitable backup role, and Acie Law will have a great mentor to help his development. Booth provides depth at C, and Noel reunites with former Tar Heel teammate Marvin Williams. Rotation: Horford/Booth/Wright Smith/Shelden Marvin/Noel JJ/AJ/West Miller/AJ/Law Philadelphia (cut Louis Amundson before trade) out: Andre Miller, Reggie Evans, Calvin Booth in: Charlie Villanueva, Jake Voskuhl, Pat Garrity, Tyronn Lue, future ATL 1st They get a good young scorer at PF in Charlie V, whose game should complement Dalembert very well. The other 3 players are all expiring so that leaves Philly with more cap room to play with in this offseason. They get a 1st as well Rotation: SammyD/Voskuhl CV/Smith AI2/Young Green/Giricek LouWilliams/Lue Milwaukee out: Charlie Villanueva, Jake Voskuhl, David Noel in: Josh Childress, Reggie Evans They get a perfect SF for them in Childress, who should improve their perimeter defense. Evans gives them a tough PF off the bench to provide some rebounding and defense. Rotation: Bogut/Gadz Yi/Evans Childress/Simmons Redd/Mason MoWilliams/Bell Orlando out: Pat Garrity, 2009 2nd in: Zaza Pachulia They get a young center who could probably benefit from a change of scenario. Pachulia has put up 15 and 8 before with the Hawks, and he might be able to recover that form with some motivation, being on a winning team. Rotation: Howard/Pachulia/Foyle Lewis/Pachulia/Augustine Turkoglu/Evans Bogans/Dooling Nelson/Arroyo Well, it certainly makes sense on all parts... Except, I wouldn't want to part with any future draft picks, especially 1st rounder...
  8. Quote: "The answer would be a team with wing players who like to run. A team with a glaring hole at the point and, perhaps, one in need of veteran leadership in the locker room. A team with enough scorers that Kidd wouldn't be asked to provide points, and a team close enough to doing something significant that Kidd could make a real difference. So tell me, based on those criteria … how do the Atlanta Hawks not qualify? They have the pieces to make an offer, too, if general manager Billy Knight -- who has a reputation as a reluctant deal-maker -- is so inclined. It would cost them Josh Childress, the expiring contracts of Tyronn Lue, Lorenzen Wright and Anthony Johnson, plus either Zaza Pachulia or Shelden Williams. Atlanta could get Malik Allen back in the deal too (really, Josh Smith, Joe Johnson and Marvin Williams easy buckets in transition that have been frustratingly rare so far this year. And the Hawks only need to rent him for a year and a half (or two and a half if a one-year extension is part of Kidd's ransom), so the risk isn't as big as it seems." Nobody can deprive us of our rights to dream! Kidd needs to become a believer in order to join us! However, there's nobody who could make a pitch to JK, except for Nique...
  9. Quote: The last three game have really shown that we need a BIG more then anything. When Big Al goes to the bench/foul trouble the teams work us hard in the paint. Law looks like he is improving at a very fast pace. He really looked good on that almost comeback. He played great in the last 5 min of the game. Well, Dalembert could help with his defense and rebounding, but his offense and contract are not something I would like to have on our team... I still believe that we need offensive low-post presence. Someone who is capable of scoring down-low, spread the floor, pass when double-teamed... That's the catch with our "O"... We are just one-dimensional offensive team, easy to defend... I think Uncle Sam can't help us with our most glarring weakness...
  10. Quote: Quote: If we had lost by 2000 points. Woody would still be our coach tomorrow. The ASG think as Northcyde does: "LOLZ people. It's not Woody's fault our players suck! get real" All I do is try to tell you guys the truth, that's all. I have never said that Woody has absolutely nothing to do with our play recently. I just think this isn't entirey his fault, no way he should get all the blame for this. These players have to take a big chunk of the responsibility for this. These guys are professionals. But some of you act like they're high school freshmen that need to be told every single little thing to do by Woody. These guys know what they have to do. They just have to do it and close games out at the end. The Portland collapse definitey wasn't Woody's fault. That team was in cruise control the entire game. Then as soon as Portland gets the lead under 10, and the crowd really gets into it, we start messing up left and right. We couldn't do anything right offensively, and couldn't stop them defensively. That's called players getting tight. I've seen that too many times in sports, especially on the road. It happened to my high school team back in the day. You tighten up and overthink everything, constantly looking at the clock. You try to make perfect plays, instead of just going out there playing. If AHF reads this, I'm sure he remembers that 31-point comeback that Kentucky pulled off at LSU back in the 90s. I remember watching that. That ish was absolutely incredible. LSU was dominating that team. Kentucky slowly started to chip away. Then they hit some 3s to get it under 20. Once they got it under 10, I knew LSU was losing that damn game. The same thing that happened to the Clips tonight. They got extremely tight and almost let us tie it. If they would've lost that game, no way you can blame that on Dunleavy. Remember that, just before the season begun, we all agreed that one of Hawks' biggest assets and weapons was young and athletic roster, which was suppose to be used to out-run opponents with intensity and hi-octane-tempo! That can only be done with extended rotation... We saw glimpse of that during pre-season... Since then, we shot ourselves in the foot! Our rotation was shortened, our starters play way too much minutes (fadding away late in the games, having occassional black-outs), 1st round draft picks are kept on the bench (with already lost confidence)... All this points to one direction - Woody! I'm not saying he's a bad coach, but he simply doesn't get the most out of our team, and ignores our strenghts! It seems that sometimes we lose before we even stepped on the floor...
  11. Quote: The last week is what our team would look like without JJ... He has basically been an absolute phantom on the floor. As we can all see, having him continue to play this way, or miss significant time for that matter, spells catastrophe for our team. It doesn't take a genious to figure out that something's goin' on... JJ is obviously fed-up with inconsistency, lack of effort, support, maybe bad coaching, ownership mess... I think this is just his way of expressing his feelings, because he can see better than anyone else that something's wrong, and something has to be done! JJ is stand-up guy, who works and plays hard, doesn't talk much... To me, he's stuck in a wrong decade, because he reminds me of the 80' type of baller...

    FA's 2008...

Let's take a time-out to think about Free Agents of 2008! Who would you like to see in Hawks' uniform next season, who would fit our team, and why? Here's the list (pardon me if I left someone out): Luol Deng restricted Chris Duhon restricted Ben Gordon restricted Andris Biedrins restricted Monta Ellis restricted David Harrison restricted Kareem Rush un-restricted Sam Cassell un-restricted Elton Brand player-option Shaun Livingston restricted Corey Maggette player-option Kwame Brown un-restricted Ronny Turiaf ? Sasha Vujacic restricted J.C. Navarro ? Jason Williams un-restricted Sebastian Telfair restricted Jason Kidd player-option Nenad Krstic restricted Jamaal Magloire un-restricted Bostjan Nachbar ? Carlos Arrojo un-restricted Maurice Evans un-restricted Andre Iguodala restricted Grant Hill player-option Shawn Marion player-option James Jones player-option Ron Artest player-option Beno Udrih ? Brent Barry un-restricted Francisco Elson un-restricted Michael Finley un-restricted Robert Horry un-restricted Mickael Gelable ? Robert Swift restricted Delonte West restricted Jose Calderon ? Carlos Delfino restricted Juan Dixon un-restricted Paul Millsap ? Gilbert Arenas player-option Antawn Jamison un-restricted
  13. Quote: Remember when the T-Wolves helped us out cap wise by trading us Terrell Brandon years ago? Well how about we return the favor and send them Speedy in return for Marko Jaric. Now I realize that he isn't a great player, but without losing a single piece to the current roster and adding a very tall defensively talented PG that shoots fairly well from 3 could be a very good move for us. Jaric would take over for AJ in the starting lineup and we wouldn't have anyone under 6'7 in the starting lineup which would complete our ability to play our switching style of D that we run. Jaric/AJ/Acie/Lue JJ/West/Salim Marvin/Chillz Smoove/Shelden/Solo Al/Zaza/Lo Thoughts? I'd like to see that! I think Marko is a good player who hasn't display all of his talents and hasn't been realy consistent... However, I think he would fit Hawks very well...
  14. Quote: Quote: Quote: Trade Gasol Chicago is about to trade Noce for Nachbar/Williams/Williams... Which will certainly change their roster.. look at this quote from that article: "Following last year's debacle, Memphis brought in new head coach Marc Iavaroni, who is trying to put his stamp on the team by getting it to play his brand of hard-nosed, physical basketball. The Grizzlies also appear to be headed towards being more of an athletic team that runs, instead of trying to win with the half-court style of play that best suits Gasol." Aren't the Hawks also an "athletic team that runs". If Gasol doesn't flourish with that kind of system, what sense does it make to bring him here? Wouldn't it be more of the same for him? I also didn't see the Hawks mentioned in there at all, as possibilities for a trade. Actually the Hawks should be an Athletic team that runs. However, we play too much half court basketball. We're only a run team out of pure necessity. We don't have the post play to be a true half court team, so our answer is to put our 6'9 lineup in and run. If we get Pau, we place him in the middle.. we'll still do some running, but we'll have an inside out game because of Pau's ability to score inside and pass. WE NEED LOW-POST SCORING! Gasol is the man for that, plus he's great passer (so it's not just throw the ball down-low, like Zach Randolph!), he gets to the line... He can run the floor too. I've seen tons of his games (Barcelona, Spanish national team, Memphis)... He is just smart player, who can adjust and excell in our system. He's also vocal leader, and still very young. Getting this guy is the only way Hawks become more than just one-dimensional team... Just think about the playoffs? Take a look at Phoenix and what they have done! When the tempo is slowed down and game is played in half-court sets, nothing can be done without strong post presence and ability to play different styles of B-Ball... Part of our PG problem also comes from the same fact! We got nobody to throw the ball to in the low-post on regular basis... Our PG's are hitting the wall, running endless motion offenses, having no open looks...
  15. 2007/8 13.500.000 and 2008/9 14.500.000 BTW Coach Theus is desperatelly trying to get him to push the tempo more, but simply, that's not his game...
  16. If we were talking about Bibby from a couple of years ago, I'd say yes probably... But right now, he looks like slightly enhanced version of T-Lue to me! He brings the ball down the floor, dribbles, creates no opportunities, runs the shot-clock down and ends up shooting the ball himself! I don't thik we need that kind of PG, especially not with his type of contract, which would put Hawks in difficult position to re-sign our core players... The only thing that I like about him right now (which could help us) is his shot.
  17. He is a stiff! Overated from day one! Yes, he has size and stature, but apart from that what else did he show? Bad hands, low BB IQ, frequent visits to DL... No thanks, we got Horford and hopefuly another quality big soon...
  18. Quote: As long as we keep Smoove, Joe, and Horford, it's a great deal for us. Even though Marvin improved a lot and has tons of potential, Marvin would definitely have to be included in a trade for Paul. Because I'm sure it boils down to the same thing as any other deal that has actually been on the table for the Hawks - include Marvin or J-Smoove. ANd it would be one of the dumbest deals in history if we trade Smoove for Pau. NO WAY! You just don't give up a very young, super athletic gem who's a DPOY canadite and our team struggles enough defensively as it is. Not convinced? OK! Just follow me here... Picture a lineup with a Marvin + Pau...hmm! Not too shabby. Now, picture a lineup with Smoove + Pau...Ok, now wipe your mouth and stop salivating...but you get the picture right. Exactly! I think we can make this deal happen' with Marvin and one or two of our big bodies and exp. contracts...
  19. Quote: Something is wrong with my computer or something. I had a long reply, but all that came out was the bottom. Shelden has value. He has size and skills, which are rusting away in Woody's doghouse. Zaza is now firmly in the back of the doghouse. Shelden is in front of him. Solomon has escaped, at least temporarily. Law would be in there if we had the room for him. Salim is either injured or in there, not sure which. Any or all the above Woody would love to trade away for whatever he could get for them. He would throw in Wright, if necessary, to make things work. Just my opinion. It's probably somewhat skewed. Shelden has future in the NBA! Just put the guy in the right system and environment, with a capable coach and he'll give you production, 10-12 ppg, 8-10 rpg, sacrifice and all the little things that don't show on the stat sheet... I can see Shelden play well along-side good center. Sometimes he reminds me of Charles Oakley...
  20. Why not! At least we would finally have PG who could push this team down the floor! Remember, that's what we all feel is the style that Hawks should utilize to get the most out of our roster...
  21. Quote: Unless you're rebuilding, you're usually making a mistake when you trade the best player in the deal. The best player mentioned is Marvin Williams. That's right! We should only trade if we get something real in return...
  22. Quote: Law should be our starting PG right now... If we think about things logically there is no reason that AJ needs to be starting and playing 30 min's. AJ after this year is probably as good as gone, and it's not like we are competing for anything important this year (aside from the eighth spot)... Just hand over the reigns to Acie and see if he can develop... because the sooner he develops the sooner we can improve significantly as a team. Obviously Lue should never, ever, ever be out there at PG... He's terrible. I agree! Woody is obviously trying to save his ass, but he doesn't know how?! He just doesn't want to make any adjustments and changes... either he's dumb or he realy believes he's doing the right thing (same thing!)... anyway, it will back-fire on him!
  23. Quote: I live in the NW and am going to this game. Im also going to be drunk and I will try to be the loudest person in the entire arena. MY MAN!
  24. Quote: Quote: Quote: Quote: Well, the article he is referring to is in the Memphis Commercial Appeal. The writer has a radio show and on this show he said the standing offer is basically Josh Smith/filler for Pau but the Grizzlies want someone to take Brian Cardinal also and the Hawks won't bite. Thanks for shedding light on whose names were mentioned... I'm also against any deal involving Smoove! It would be great if Grizz would take a package of basically Chillz, Shelden + filler or two... But that's a long shot! If we are going to land Gasol, we'll have to give up Marvin or Smoove! I know... it sucks! However, IMO that's the only way we're gonna get our team to another level... With: PF = Smoove, Horford. SF = Marvin, Chillz. It's obvious that we have a log jam with no Real Center. For the future, Acie = Only PG signed. Without Chillz, JJ = Only SG signed. What's the fix? Has to be shopping for Gasol. It would be nice if we can trade Marvin/Filler for Gasol. However, more than likely, Smoove/Filler will get us Gasol. We just have to make three demands with that: 1. They take Speedy. 2. We get Navarro. 3. We do not take on Cardinal. Now, if they take Marvin, i would be more willing to take back Cardinal... but not if they're getting Smoove. He's a megastar in the making. Diesel, I like your thinking here. I just got through talking to my dad extensively about the Hawks and fellow Squawkers' contemplation of bringing in Gasol. Here is my take: I love the idea of bringing Gasol in for five main reasons: 1)Low Post scorer (we don't have one, so they Zone up on us) 2)Can play Center 3)Move Horford to his natural PF Position 4)Gives you another legit scorer 5)Opens up the floor for guys like JJ because he always commands Double Teams (very, very important) However...I do NOT like the idea of giving up Josh Smith for him. Period. Josh Smith will be a bona fide superstar in this league if he ever ties everything together. Josh Smith does many things well, just nothing outside of blocking shots from the weak side exceptionally well. However, he is a legit playmaker that alters shots and can provide SOME interior defense as well. With that said, I WOULD trade Marvin Williams for him IF the Grizz were to take him. Lately, Williams' calling card has been his ability to knock down the jump shot consistently. However, he has not done so as much past few games. He still seems to hesitate to be a second or third option on offense (even when Joe or Josh are struggling) and if he is not scoring, does not bring a whole lot more to the table besides good defense (like Rebounding and Assists). He isn't even getting to the charity stripe as much recently and has never been the type to play aggressively--even though many have been hoping for him to do so for some time now. Marvin has the tools to score 20-25 pts a game. However, since he is not doing so, it will be much easier to find a replacement who can just score and do little else. I love Marvin, I really do, but if I had to pick between the two, I would ship Marvin off. The Starting 5 would look like this next year: PG: Acie Law SG: Joe Johnson SF: Josh Smith PF: Al Horford C: Pau Gasol I am not all that concerned with Josh Smith moving to SF. He will still be a do-it-all type player that just won't be shooting many 3s that you would expect from a SF...Hopefully by next year Acie will be able to do that. Joe can as well. Can Smoove keep up with the smaller players he would be defending at the 3? I cannot comment on that. I will let more experienced guys answer that. Furthermore, our Defense won't suffer nearly as much as people think. Hopefully, our new coach (after Woody is deservingly fired in the offseason) will recognize Gasol's limitations and work on them. Plus, the change in scenery could be very advantageous for Gasol. Our rebounding will automatically go up, so will our low post scoring, Horford will be nightmare for PFs and his Defense will be much better against guys his body is more suitable for guarding, and Joe Johnson and Acie Law's life will be much easier with a guy like Gasol manning the middle and opening up the floor. We would immediately go from a very undersized team to a very nice-sized team. This team, as currently structured, is deeply flawed. SOMETHING has to give. I am no GM, but I do know that if we don't make a move, we will have to settle for mediocrity and/OR sneak into the playoffs only to suffer early exits for years to come. These are my thoughts. Nice post! It shows that a lot of us are on the same page... I agree that Hawks should try to get Gasol for Marvin and a filler... and finaly shape this team as a real BB team! Personally, I think that Smoove's game suffers much more when he's defending bigger PF's (pickin' up silly F's)... He's a combo-forward who can be used at both spots, depending on the pace, style of play and match-ups... Finally, Al would slide into his true position - PF, and he would provide Gasol with something he never had in the past - a true banger, rebounder, defender, who is smart and has ability to play with and off of Gasol...
