  1. Quote: Dumbest post i have read in a long time. Welcome to my filter. HAHA I agree. First grade grammar teachers and basketball coaches everywhere just cringed...
  2. I commend Felton for having the stones to dismiss two of the top players from his program for what he felt was 'conduct detrimental to the team,' especially in a year where he knew coming in he would be under scrutiny for the performance of the team. I doubt there are too many coaches in D-1 basketball that would take that strong of a stance on player misconduct when their job was on the line. What a breath of fresh air after Harrick. Keep in mind also that this was not a normal rebuild, he inherited this program in absolute shambles. He had no reputation to recruit behind and he had scholarship reductions to deal with. I thought going in to this tourney that he should have at least gotten another year. Judging from interviews, I don't think Evans wanted to fire the guy at all, but was being pressured to. I am sure he is as happy as anyone at the turn of events this past weekend. Really nice story, I would have loved to be in that locker room postgame...
  3. Quote: A big reason for that is the lack of outside shooting to space the floor. Yes, but a bigger reason is the fact that Woody has made the tactical decision to not run any type of offense to get guys moving without the ball. Ever. So we end up standing around watching Joe. While outside shooting helps spread the D, it isn't hard to guard a spot up shooter that is standing in place. Quote: Childress' total lack of a perimeter game hurts the spacing. I would rather see Smith in there looking for rebounds rather than Childress. True, but J. Smoove can't play the whole game. I like to see Marvin play with Chillz because he can make teams pay for collapsing on Joe and when he misses, we have weakside rebounding there in Childress. Quote: However he (Smith) hangs around the perimeter at least in part I believe because Childress and Horford are inside already. it is too crowded in there. I agree. See above. Chillz, Smoove, and Horford all operate effectively in the same areas. If they are all in the game at the same time, it is too crowded. That's when we get Smith pulling the contested 20 ft jumpers and Hawksquawkers blowing up the message boards.
  4. i dont mind sacrificing a little equity in court balance if we can get some free chippies around the basket. Chillz is a good offensive rebounder, so I'm happy to have him down there to try to clean up and get some easy buckets at the cost of him getting back late on long rebounds, esp since our offense is basically standing around and seeing if Joe can create a shot for himself or somebody. If Joe is not hitting shots, we are not scoring points, so any easy buckets around the rim are big for us. The problem is when there is a TO or long rebound he doesn't sprint back on defense. He kind of jogs to about half court to see if there is a quick miss or TO by the transitioning team, hoping for a quick outlet back to him for an open dunk (Snowbirding). That allows the other team to press their advantage longer, and eventually the open shooter is found or penetration more quickly breaks down the defense for a layup. He is also the most horrific defender in the half court on this team outside of Mike Bibby. He is horrible at playing screens and shows a basic disinterest/dislike for anything on that end of the floor. Marvin has terrible footwork but he is an adequate defender because he hustles and he uses his length to deter shots. He doesnt block many shots but he definitely alters them and makes an easy shot tougher. Offensively he can't create his own shot (which Chillz can in the post), can't finish at the rim (which chillz can) and is basically a midrange shooter. They bring very different elements to the floor but both contribute (and detract) in certain areas. Marvin gets the spotlight because he was a number 2 and because of who was taken behind him but it really isnt his fault that management cant evaluate talent. Chillz was also a high draft pick and there were considerably more talented players available in his slot as well, but for some reason he gets a pass while Marv gets raked through the coals...
  5. Quote: I'm glad you got out and safe from the rain, "Hail" and tornado. You must not be from Atlanta huh? Lucky St. been there forever. Moral of the story, never leave a Hawks game early. Well if we are doing the spell check thing, I believe the street is actually spelled "luckie"...
  6. Quote: We need to get a sports psychiatrist in here to talk to Pachulia so he can find his game. John Wooden couldn't get anything out of Z. You can't coach (in)ability. Quote: This team IS better than what we've seen the past few games. Appreciate the enthusiasm but not sure I am with you on that one. I, like many HSers, am starting to realize the huge flaws present on this roster.
  7. Quote: Did you not watch the Mavs/Rockets playoff series in 2005 when T-Mac was shutting down Nowitzki? Tmac > West west is a liability on O. He does not space the floor and is not a threat to score. Not good on a team that can't score in the half court
  8. thats partially on woody because he doesnt let his subs get consistent minutes and get in a groove out there. I think AC, Salim, J-Rich and even Mario can all contribute if given consistent burn...which means more than 30 seconds at a time. The low block is a disaster though. Zaza is awful and Horf is not a 5 obviously. Then you have BK's dream of a bunch of 6'8"s that arent big enough to get on the block and bang but dont fit on the perimeter either....
  9. well said. nice post. agreed. we definitely need new management from the top down. BK is getting a pass on all of this because of the Bibby trade and last year's draft and Woody is the fall guy. While woody needs to go, this franchise needs an overhaul starting at the top (that means ownership). Actually the roster needs only to be adjusted here and there. The rest of the franchise needs to be blown up.
  10. Quote: Starting Mario is a brilliant idea. If he had been on T-Mac all night last night, we probably would have won. Yeah....6'8" with rise vs 6'5"....hmmm....I can see the light going on above Tmacs head right now....POST TOASTIES!!! He would destroy mario on the block easy buckets all night you are out of your head. Again, START MARIO at SF or SG (Put him on the BETTER SG/SF on the other team), and watch the results. How can you even talk with Mario's basketBALLS in your mouth like that....it wouldn't have anything to do with the "GTfan" part of your account name would it??
  11. agreed. woody is going to take the fall for all of this, and he should because he is horrid, but this roster as it is configured is inherently flawed. Thank BK for that. A coaching change will not be enough.
  12. Quote: Did you actually watch the f'ing game? Every minute of it. Quote: While Woody inserted him in the 3rd he was all over the place rebounding and defending giving the Hawks extra opportunities. I saw him get one offensive rebound and miss a 3pt attempt. Quote: Is it me or did he not require a double team to guard Mcgrady. If by "he" you mean Marvin Williams I would say no, both Smoove and Marvin had him one on one at several different points with both doing a decent job, though I would give the edge to Marvin (although, in his defense, I would say that TMAC decided he should take the game over late, which he did). Woodson CHOSE to double team tmac when possible to see if any other rockets could make us pay for that strategy. It had more to do with tmac being tmac than marvin being marvin. Quote: You notice he shut down everyone he guarded in the 3rd. Because everyone knows the Rockets run their offense through Rafer Alston. Again, I don't want to come off as a West hater, because I like him, but to me, the people calling for him to start never played better than high school basketball and don't really know what they are talking about. Or they are Tech fans.
  13. I don't mind him taking wide open shots that he catches in rhythm, he sometimes hits those....but both he and salim have this thing where they will get a swing pass and hesitate on an open shot. Then, once the defense recovers to them, they'll take a jabstep or a dribble and a step back and shoot. They turn down a wide open look in the flow of the offense and then try to create a shot. Salim doesnt shoot these well, but Smoove is flat out horrible. In a game like last night where points are at a premium you cant be giving away possessions like that.
  14. Quote: Wow. He is playing hurt and playing poorly yet Woody still plays him 41 minutes. Exactly. Its not on the player to take himself out of the game. To me, he is a gamer because he is trying to play through it. It's on Woodson to determine if he is hurting more than helping, so everyone needs to get off Bibby cuz he's doing what he can. He didnt play well tonight, but he should have had 10 dimes if not for guys blowing layups (Zaza), not finishing strong (Marvin) or getting fouled (Horf) off his feeds. He did have 24 points against Orlando and only 1 t.o...
  15. Quote: How many clutch shots did he make for Vancouver? how many clutch GAMES did vancouver play in their illustrious history? Sac thought enough of Bibby to trade J-Dub for him, who at the time was at the peak of his hype machine and a top marketing piece in the league. It was obvious who got the best of that swap...
  16. so i guess all those clutch money shots in those playoff series were from the system too.... when the kings needed buckets down the stress it was on bibby. Cwebb didnt take those shots. You are a fool for that Hotlanta. I mean he's struggling now but you cant take away what he was to those teams... HATER
  17. what is HS obsession with MW?? You guys have him gassed up like we have the franchise sitting on the bench...I mean I like the guy's heart as much as anyone but he doesn't have the ability to be getting all the burn ya'll want him to get. Marvin may be lead-footed but he plays decent D. He did a good job on Mac tonight even though Mac gets superstar treatment from the refs and got him in foul trouble. Marv did a good job hitting his little mid range shot too. Floor spacing is something we have in VERY small quantities, so putting mario in for marvin is a backward move in that regard. Mario gets hustle/garbage points in the same space as Chill, Zaza, Horf, and smoove (except he is only 6'5"), so he will be packing the d in more and creating even more problems for JJ. I dont get the fetish for MWest.
  18. and, to summarize what Dolfan said in his posts, basically the Rockets play to a greater measure than the sum of their parts, and the Hawks play under the value of their parts individually. Or, to explain it in mathematical terms: BK's Disjointed roster of Misfits + Woody's (mis)guidance = Garbage (BKDRM + WMG = G)
  19. Quote: The game is ours for the taking we just have to be hungry and want the victory more than the rockets. Agree with all of your points, but what pray tell, in the past month has even remotely suggested to you that collectively the Hawks would love nothing more than a comfortable seat and an icy cold adult beverage come playoff time? This looks just like the thread the day of the (insert your own opponent from the past 15 games here) game.
  20. Quote: The longer Marvin goes without reaching his potential the closer he comes to becoming another young Tim Thomas Marvin doesn't have nearly the explosiveness or the range that Tim Thomas does, or had at the same point in their careers....
  21. Quote: Hey Hotlanta1980: Yaah Trick!! Yaah!! Please do not reference no-talent ass-clowns around this board anymore (aka soulja boy). God knows Woody, BK and ASG are plenty for one community.
  22. [from article] "He impressed the Hawks enough to take him with the third pick in the draft, a rare good judgment call from a team that is more famous for whom they passed on than whom they actually selected in recent years." had to throw that little dig in there for us. As if any of us needed reminding...
  23. tired and losing is a hell of a lot different than tired and winning. I've been on both sides.
  24. woah, back up there floyd. Horf picked up 2 fouls early. When that happens the best thing to do is just save him for the next game, because he MIGHT foul out later, and that would really put you in a fix. Plus, Zaza is a beast on that low block, and Solo was doing a great job handling D-12...(wood's perception is not reality....)
  25. this team will never reach its potential until ASG are out of the mix. And BK, and most definitely the most overmatched coach in the league, a Mr. Michael Dean Woodson. If woodson had been axed for a capable replacement at the all star break this team would be 5 games better, there is no doubt in my mind about that. This team is laying down on MW waiting on ownership to make a move...which they won't anytime soon.
