  1. I agree. Still say I'd like the deal at a good price. Tying $11M into a SF that may never be a top 5 SF is a bit high for Ferry's cap flexibility plan.
  2. Chandler at $8-9M is OK with me. A good deal for the Hawks. $11M might not be. If he continues to improve into an All-Star then $11M is OK. There are other options available to Ferry.
  3. Based on what evidence? Are you already convinced that Ferry and his staff are the "best"? Are you basing this on what his players have occomplished? Potential? Inside info?
  4. Is the question rating the players talent? How they'll fit on our team? This draft just reinforces the biggest question that I have; what is Ferry's plan going to produce? If your goal for the Hawks is to win a championship, then it seems like you have to have a plan very similar to a business plan. You have to have finances, to invest, amortize the cost, maximize potential and beat the competitors. Connecting Bball to the business metaphor: The financing is having the bucks to compete in a competitive market The investment is in the players, coaches Amortizing the cost is getting max return on the investment cost Maxing potential is coaching and systeming the players into champions The key element not mentioned is: timing. There are windows on investments, with different players being on different curves of potential. You have to have a maximum of players peaking in a similar window to be a champion. Drafting for later while trying to win now does not fit into the logic of syncronizing max potential into a window of championship opportunity. I think Ferry knows this and is building a team based on pure business investment priorities i.e. keep the ASG's yearly budget in the green. This is not a championship path. If he suddenly flips some of these young, mediocre assets (see draft position) into talented players that enter into the core of the teams window of opportunity or goes over the lux tax to bring in such players, then I'll clearly revise my analysis of his plan. Nothing against the players. All they can do is try to get better and win. Nothing against the coach. He's good and I love his team ball style though I'd like to see the inside game more. Nothing against Ferry. I think he's capable of being a very good GM. The plan is what I'm questioning. Is it a championship plan? If he waits for these raw young picks to come in and help our present core; bad plan. If his plan is to bring in good team players on reasonable deals while developing the next core simultainiously by keeping the rooks off the cap (Europe) and bringing in good players on reasonable deals; bad plan. It's cheap and our talent will remein well inferior to the best. It is also quite unlikely that our mid round picks develop better than other teams better picks. Guess it comes down to: does he trade us into a contender or is it just a cheap plan to remain competitive, while drafting to keep fans interested? If he wanted to rebuild, seems he missed the boat so I didn't even propose that. One last idea. How long does Ferry see his plan taking to reach championship level?
  5. He was contributing nicely before the injury. He had signed with us for a very nice deal and played well. Size is a big issue on D. Doesn't fit Hawks ball movement style. Over $5M expiring that should have value to some teams as a 6th man. Showed better towards the end of the season and playoff. Should trade him
  6. http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/233896/Cavaliers-Like-Orlandos-Offer-Of-Afflalo-Nos-4-12-For-No-1-Pick Cavaliers Like Orlando's Offer Of Afflalo, Nos. 4, 12 For No. 1 Pick Jun 24, 2014 5:06 PM EDT The Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic and Utah Jazz have all offered their high lottery picks plus a veteran to move up to No. 1 in a deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavaliers aren't enamored by offers from the 76ers (Thad Young and the No. 3 pick) and Jazz (Derrick Favors and the No. 5 pick). But the Magic offer of Arron Afflalo, along with the No. 4 and No. 12 pick is attractive to the Cavaliers. The Cavaliers have strong interest in signing LeBron James and acquiring Afflalo would be seen as a strong move. Via Jeff Goodman, Chad Ford/ESPN
  7. We have absolutely no history of attracting top FA. There are only a handful of teams that get them year after year. What idications are there that this is about to change?
  8. If we want picks and have to take on salary, then we have to move some salary. We can move expirings or value players. Don't think the ASG is going to buy picks and go over the cap to have a first or second round exit. We have multiple players on long deals that have high value to other teams. We have good value expirings. We can create cap space and absorb salary. We have everything in place to get multiple quality picks in this draft, if Ferry wants to go that way.
  9. Then why not go the draft route?
  10. Ferry is coming into his third draft. Many of his third season moves will happen in the coming weeks. The first draft he selected a couple of role players that wouldn't take too long to contribute. Second draft he went pure potential with players 2-3-4... years away from solid contribution. His FA moves last year indicated a short-term competitive vision; he invested in the here and now. The Hawks had a ho-hum, very mediocre season marred by the season ending injury to Horf. Horf would have helped, but most realize that even with him the team would have come up way short of a title. I was very surprised by the "assemble the best team now" FA moves combined with the potential drafting. What direction will he go with this draft? What about FAcy? What do you guys expect from Ferry this off-season? What should he do? Are we stuck in the middle between rebuilding and competing? Making moves to compete now, while drafting for years from now seems a bit contradictory. Agree? disagree? Never too early or late to talk about how and what our GM is doing.
  11. DH hasn't made a PF look good since his early ORL days, when he was young and fast (*T Jones looked pretty good in limited minutes). Parsons is also coming to the end of his rook deal. He isn't really that good of a sweetener. Pretty good, but not a star and about to come up for his re-signing.
  12. Why do you fault the guy's desire to control who he works for? It's his choice and since he obviously is a top talent, he is in the drivers seat. He's still very young. If he pulls out of this draft, he'll likely improve his stock for the next draft. If I was in his shoes there are a number of teams I wouldn't want to work for. It's his choice.
  13. Probably have to trade Horf to get him at #4. In one of my fantasy scenarios I offer Horf / #20 (obtained in another trade) for #4 / #12 / filler
  14. If he goes through with a sale, it's VERY unlikely that they'll get another gaziollaire owner and the team will super suck next year. If the Hawks keep on the competitive path, they could still get a nice pick from Brookyn. Even if he doesn't sell, he could be less willing to spend 30 million over the lux tax again for mediocre results
  15. Love to keep him. Wish he was 7'1" 250 because we need to get bigger. We need a C.
  16. 23 - Ben McLemore Kansas Birthday: 2/11/93 NBA Position: Shooting Guard Class: Freshman Ht: 6-5 Wt: 190 Hometown: St. Louis, MO High School: Christian Life Center Team Site Profile Statistics Overall 98 2013 Mock: 7 Big Board: 1 Pos Rank - SG: 1 NBA Comparison: Ray Allen Strengths: Prototypical 2-guard with a mouth watering combination of athleticism and shooting ability ... A top shelf athlete with spectacular leaping ability and body control ... Appears to have just scratched the surface of his abilities in his one season of college ball ... Without question has elite level NBA 2 guard potential with the talent to eventually place himself among the top shooting guards in the league in his prime ... Shooting efficiency was off the charts for a freshman, hitting 50% FG, 42% 3p and 87% from the line (totaling 179, he was a point away from being in the 180 club) More efficient shooting than Steph Curry was in his freshman season at Davidson (172) ... Smooth operator. His jump shot is absolutely a thing of beauty and rarely do you find such a gorgeous stroke on such a gifted athlete ... Shoots with a fluid and concise motion and takes the same shot every time. Gets excellent elevation and has a quick release ... Has range out to college 3, and there's no reason to think he won't be able to extend to the NBA line ... If he plays with a top level PG, he will be deadly in catch and shoot situations ... His pull up off the dribble shows a lot of potential, as does his ability to blow by defenders due to a quick first step ... Ball handling potential is there. Has much better ball handling ability than he's been given credit for. Shows one and two dribble pull up skills, plus can utilize three and four dribble moves to get to the rim ... When asked to isolate, has done a good job of creating off the dribble, though was rarely asked to be a primary ball handler, or ISO, and spent most of his time running off screens for spot up looks ... Excellent off the ball, using constant motion to tire out opponents and has been coached well to wait for screens and run his man off them to free himself for looks ... Great at finding seems in the defense, running the baseline for ally oop dunks ... Has a chance to be an excellent defender due to his length and lateral speed. Despite their reputations, McLemore actually graded out much higher on overall defense in Synergy analytical statistics than Victor Olidipo ... McLemore allowed .625 PPP (points per possession) scoring in the 89 percentile (Oladipo .856 PPP and in the 39th percentile) Granted Oladipo has better ISO defensive analytics ... Unselfish, team player who shows solid ability to pass the ball for an off guard (even a/to ratio) ... Good size at 6'4.75 in shoes with a 6'7.75 wingspan ... Persevered through a rough upbringing showing a fortitude and inner strength ... Weaknesses: "Lacks assertiveness" and "passivity" are the two most common criticisms that have been made about him. Is it possible that the bar was set a little high for a freshman that averaged 15.9 ppg on highly efficient numbers? ... Still must learn how to operate in pressure situations and develop focus and mental toughness ... It's easy to confuse a lack of focus for a lack of passion, and it's a real possibility that his struggles were more related to inexperience and concentration lapses instead of competitiveness or mental toughness issues ... A young and naive kid, there are some concerns about how he will handle all of NBA's off court temptations and not get caught up in the "lifestyle". By all accounts a good kid, who just needs solid people around him steering him in the right direction, making positive decisions ... Just one season of college ball after redshirting his first year at Kansas due to Academics ... Some worry about his maturity level and confidence after his interviews and workouts. He reportedly was out of shape and unprepared during the draft process ... Extremely humble kid. May need time to grow and mature, develop a better feel for the game, defensive spacing, etc. He will likely gain confidence and develop a swagger in time ... The truth is he's a great kid who's just naive, like most 20 year olds ... As one scout put it, "Just imagine what he'll be like when he gets some confidence and hits his stride" ... Had one dreadful performance against North Carolina (2 pts 0-9 fg) during their tourney run in which he disappeared and somewhat crumbled under the pressure, and detractors point to this game as proof that he lacks a killer instinct or the "alpha dog" personality. In reality the same criticisms could be made about Bradley Beal for "running from the basketball" in the key minutes of Florida's loss to Louisville in the NCAA tournament. McLemore bounced back with 20 pts on 8-15 in their next and last game vs. Michigan ... Sometimes the moment overcomes players and only a fool would judge a player based on one college performance ... Needs to work on his ISO game, become a better ball handler and not be so careless turning the ball over ... Where McLemore struggled defensively was in isolation, showing a need to expand his feel for the game, focus on fundamentals, get lower and not bite on fakes as heavily. Shows solid effort, he just needs to make a better effort of getting low, anticipating, and not allowing opponents to get by him on penetration ... Had an extremely tough upbringing so there are some concerns about how he will be able to handle immediate riches ... Two years at Kansas were crucial for his maturity and long term development off the court, but has a bigger adjustment curve than the average prospect and needs time and patience from the team that invests a pick in him ... Fron NBADraft.net McLemore was the 7th pick last season. SG with good size. Consensus is that Sap's value is at about #8, I don't see where Teague would have much higher value. How is this such a bad trade?
  17. Millsap / Teague for #8 / McLemore / Salary filler Could the Schro to SAC rumors be mixed signals? Are they really after a "veteran" PG, Like Teague. Sap would also fit in very nice to their starting five. Is it a good deal for the Hawks? Realistic?
  18. Man, I've played out so many trade for pick senario's... I love the thought of investing in young players, even if it means some losing while they develop.
  19. Houston wants to unload his contract. He has a historic poison pill. After last season's production, he is barely worth the actual 8M or so he'll be paid. He has negative value with the extra salary. We need a C. The available FAs (Gortat, Hawes) don't really excite and would tie up cap for an OK C. Asik could be a one year bridge. Because of his negative value we get thier #25. We can send Lou Williams. He could be shipped to a third team if Hou just wants cap space. I think we could get Lou Will for Asik / #25 / second Why sign a C that isn't better than Asik for 2-4 years when we can get Asik and some picks? Glen Robinson III could be the player picked. If Ferry is in the acquiring assets thing, this is a golden opp.
  20. This is a dream type scenario BUT, all of the trades are based on things that have been debated on trade boards and deemed somewhat « fair » value. This is a continue the competitive, continue to acquire young assets strategy currently being used by Ferry. Trade #1 Millsap For Asik / #25 / 2015 second Houston has been wanting this move. I make the deal. Trade #2 Lou Williams / #42 For #24 Charlotte wants to be competitive and Lou is a nice 6th man and should have a better year. Trade #3 Schröder / 2015 second (from Hou) For #8 They get the PG they want in a deal we can accept. Trade #4 #8 / #25 For #4 Draft: #4: Dante Exum #15: Kyle Anderson #24: Glen Robinson III Asik / Bebe / Antić Horford / Muscala / Scott Anderson / Carroll Korver / Robinson III / Jenkins Teague / Exum / Mack
  21. Korver is aging like fine wine because his game is shoot and fundamental. He will continue to be able to do those things. Deng plays more athletic, will not maintain his level of play and would tie up too much money. I'm looking for other options. No Deng
  22. Trade Lou Williams and #42 for Charlotte's #24. Draft; #15: Kyle Anderson #24: Glen Robinson III Horford / Antić / Bebe Millsap / Scott / Muscala Carroll / Anderson Korver / Jenkins / Robinson III Teague / Schröder / Mack Very likely senario. I trade Lou to a playoff pretender with a late pick. With our second they aren't giving up much to get a nice 6th man and we get a late first in a deep draft.
  23. Some of the optimism might be a little...otimistic. When it mattered, Indy turned it up and shut us down. The talent gap between us and them was huge. Horf doesn't bridge the gap. We need to add better talent, size and depth. As is, we're likely a mid to late seed, with NO chance at winning it all.
  24. Best bet is they keep nearly everyone, add a decent C, like Hawes, and draft the best SG/SF available. Then they can choose to extend or trade Sap before the deadline.
