  5. Sightings at Game 3: Al, Marvin (was that a fauxhawk?), Teague, Jordan Crawford (either the announcer really didn't know who he was, or they deliberately played it out for like 20 seconds while his face was up on the JumboTron), and our old friend Billy Knight. ~lw3
  6. Ole Miss fans are fuming right now, looking at GSU giving Jacksonville St. all they can handle! OVERTIME! (Update) Heartstopping finish, so close! I'm sure Lambuth wants a piece of Ole Miss now! ~lw3

  12. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=A2KIikecopJMM2AAm428vLYF?slug=ap-heat-haslem If our NBA players would quit thinking they're justified in driving at any desirable speed, they will have won half the battle. ~lw3

Maybe a future matchup with Kentucky (Marquis Teague) or UNC (Larry Drew II) is in the works? ~lw3
  14. It is pronounced as in "Sy of Tranquility", right? I do like that Pop Secret nickname. But of course he'll have to play well to get anything above "Le Rook." I'm hoping they'll stow him away in Provo after training camp until he's really ready, no reason to rush him into anything. ~lw3
  15. Probably worthy of the Other Sports forum, but I'm curious, has anyone ever put together a Top 10 list of free agents in Atlanta sports history? (I'm going by the assumption that there have been at least 10 free agents;-) ~lw3
  16. Another one ohhh, so close! The Storm were fantastic in "shutting out," as best they could, Angel Mac (still squeezed out 21 points, but the lion's share of FGs were at the closing seconds of each half). The Dream's interior players was solid in rebounding but didn't help enough offensively to offset Angel's poor shooting night (was 5-for-21 and 0-for-6 in the second half at one point). They have to get Sancho and Erika more touches when Angel can't drive to the rim and her outside jumpers aren't falling. The Dream were not going to their bread-and-butter fast breaking off of opponents' missed shots and steals until the Storm pushed the game out of reach with just minutes to go. Despite nearly getting her nose re-broken early, Izi was about the only noticeable offensive threat, but she struggled with foul trouble and fouled out in the final minute-and-a-half. Delayed fouling (Woodsonian clock management?) took some valuable seconds off the clock in the closing minutes when they could have otherwise been in a position to tie or win. Hopefully they'll get some rest on the long flight back and return to focused, smart, winning basketball before a packed Game 3 crowd Thursday night! GO DREAM!

  18. Halfway through the month, our September nominee: Mike Shaw, aka "Bastion Booger" (WWE years) and "Norman the Lunatic" (previous WCW years, managed by Teddy Long) Although, if you're looking every bit of your gimmick-reported 400+ pounds, is age 53 really premature? (warning: 3 minutes you won't get back; Norman with Terry Funk) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xhTMLWpp_Q http://pwtorch.com/artman2/publish/Other_News_4/article_43719.shtml http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Wrestling/2010/09/12/15324721.html Opening for the 1st Anniversary of WWE Monday Night Raw in 1994, here was the late Bastion Booger going up against the late Bam Bam Bigelow (died of a cocaine and pills OD in 2007), the latter managed by the late Luna Vachon (last month's winner; pills OD). ~lw3

  20. Bloodied yet unbowed! Great Game 1 for the Dream! You can tell the Storm are not used to getting pushed that hard in their own house, they haven't lost at Key Arena in over a year. Despite bringing their A-game, they needed Sue Bird's heroics in the closing seconds for the second straight playoff game. Everytime the Storm thought they could pull away with threes, the Dream used turnovers and tempo to get right back in it. How about Izi's three at the halftime buzzer to tie it up? The Dream had the chance to pull off the upset at the buzzer despite missing Angel Mac for the whole second quarter and part of the second half. Angel came back after getting stitched up following a headbutt and continued making big buckets, and Izi's aggressiveness kept the Storm defense honest. A great team effort and learning experience going into Game 2. GO DREAM! ~lw3
  21. Somebody pleeeeeeeease tell me he's done. Or, at the very least, that we're all done with him? I know his pound-for-pound boxing skills have been superior for awhile now, and he's still undefeated (some would argue, evasively so). But his recent race-baiting, homophobic, fight-dodging, and (now, allegedly) female-abusing ways are just over the top for me. Or am I just being overly sensitive right now? Maybe it's just too much going on all at one time? Forget the ESPYs... is the persistent and coddled mistreatment of women the real trophies being handed to our top boxers, golfers, and quarterbacks? I'd hope that our pugilistic society has evolved just a bit since the trifling saga of the ear-nibbling, crotch-grabbing, child-appetizing Tyson years, and not wasting one red cent more to view Junior in the ring would be emblematic of that. Boxing needs villains, sure, but no more of this variety. When the sole redeeming reason to pay to see someone box is that everyone believes he somehow "deserves" a butt-whooping, for needless actions that have nothing to do with the sport, there's simply no benefit in staging a bout anymore. Put him in a dunk tank at the circus and let everyone who wants a shot at a man who calls himself "Money" pay a nickel to douse him. He'll probably make more cash that way anyhow. But we've got to quit staging boxing events (or any professed legitimate sports, for that matter) as a means to subsidize people's visibly downward spirals. ~lw3
