  1. Luka with 40/11/10 in a 50 point blowout over Johnny Collins and them. Marvin over CP3. Trae over Luka. Spelman over Brunson. OO over Haliburton. Bustkin over Jaquez Jr. When does the nightmare end?
  2. Hawks now 28-32 under Quin. He’s a good little coach but will never be great and doesn’t seem to be getting better, more creative, or a swift problem solver.
  3. It’s crazy how much these teams mirror each other statistically when they meet, three point efficiency was the difference tonight. All the starters were in the plus, ”Meth Bogi” -10 in 7 minutes. Trent Forrest tries to defends hard, protects the ball, and forces his way to the line but I’ve given up on Quin giving him spot minutes.
  4. Claxton leading the break when that happen?! I think I’ve seen Clint do that once in his career.
  5. I think talent gets them out the first round (currently versus Phoenix) but youth is their nemesis in the semis (probably versus Denver) And Sports Reference actually got back to me in a timely fashion lol:
  6. Final play of the half was nice. Great bounce pass out the weak double team by Trae and nice flash to the paint by Dre to make himself available for the floater.
  7. He had a sixth sense for basketball even as a rookie. It’s fascinating he can maximize his teammates while pressing his own shot so much, not really being great off the ball, and having mediocre three point shooting with well below average volume but he’s so confident and comfortable with the quirky style he’s developed. His metrics benefit from another great young team build by Presti.
  8. Two years straight and that’s the least of his defensive value. He’s like a Pro Bowl Mike LB the way he orchestrates. But I had no idea he’s above .677 eFG/ TS. The second best box plus minus on the Bulls is DeRozan at 2.7 points less than Caruso. He could instantly and consistently add 3 points to the Hawks differential. I hope Landry is doing due diligence at least. He’d invigorate Dre and Clint a great deal but those would likely be the guys being shipped out.
  9. Glad to hear the third sentence in his quote. I had doubts about his mindset, gives me a little confidence that a significant move will be made to bolster the defense. Not a lot tho.
  10. I’ve called and emailed them about it, not holding my breath on an answer though. They seemed to have updated similar players for the NFL so I don’t get the issue with basketball (shout to Daunte Culpepper, most similar to Mahomes). I was surprised to hear a Brit on the recorded message I wanted to see SGA’s update too. No one on either his progressive arc nor career shape came anywhere close to his 11.4 last season.
  11. It is literally impossible for those scores to stay the same @AHF. BB-Ref didn’t update similarity scores this season: they usually do it in early August. I was quite disappointed, I was anxious to see how Steph’s, Jimmy’s (I’m not okay with his top comp being Horace Grant but Kawhi’s top comp is Jimmy?), Bogi’s (his list really doesn’t do him justice) and Jokic’s changed as well: all exactly as they were last season. Trae is still subtracting TS as well. He dug such a hole for himself but he’s climbing out like a mug. You simply don’t want to be on the absolute opposite end of the spectrum from Steph and Hally with dudes like Cade Cunningham and Jordan Poole. Fun fact Shawn Marion is 93% similar to Giannis. One of the most underrated of All Time that dude.
  12. I never been a fan of teams taking 40+ unless you’re facing a dreadful three point defending team (like us ) or have The Splash Bros.
  13. 10th in attempts (37.4) and 9th in percentage (.372) overall: ideal volume and solid efficiency. A far cry from last season where they were hemorrhaging blood with Nate in, Bogi out, and finished at 28th and 21st, respectively. Trae picked it up and seems to be in a rhythm with his. That boy can spike his shooting percentages with the best of em after a terrible start. DJ’s improvement has been big. He was a brick artist in SA: I pretty much expect him to make all his open and rhythm looks now (I expect Bogi to hit 2 feet behind the line with a contest lol). He extended his midrange mastery out better than say a DeRozan and it’s also paying dividends at the line as he’s posting a career high % by far.
  14. I hear you, I don’t follow all the contract talks. I like Bey but he done bumped his mf head with that one. Lilliard is clocking $60 milly as he chaperoned Trae to a layup on a slow break so it’s all relative lol. I don’t know how Adrian Griffin didn’t chew him like a stick of Trident after that one it was so egregious.
  15. Dammit, we need that RealGM feature where you can edit a post a month later. Seriously tho I’ve detailed parts of Trae’s game good and bad you haven’t and won’t see anywhere else old cagey one.
  16. As poor as he is on that end I cant knock Bey too tough, he has the best 100 possession rating of any non-center on the team and an on/off net second to only Jalen. His True Shooting, loose ball hustle, and offensive rebounding pay significant dividends. And I just realized he’s only making $4.5 mill. He’s an exceptional value.
  17. I was flipping in my chair at the shots Bogi was missing in the fourth. Two straight “open” looks (by his standards), both flat and short. Then a perfect rhythm look that rimmed out. But anyway, the Hawks were expected to lose by 7 and they did. On to the next one in this epic quest for mediocrity. When this team is finally deconstructed I’ll look back and marvel at how consistently they alternated wins and losses and how they failed to cover the spread in an eventual loss as an underdog 70-something times in a row. I’m not sure but it may be more and still ongoing.
  18. Good digging although I do agree that the halfcourt offense isn’t ideal in terms of the team getting high percentage shots outside of Trae’s passing creation. I think those numbers are propped up by high rankings in terms of FT rate from Trae supported by OO and Dre along with high offensive rebounding marks from OO, Clint, and Bey. Many times the Hawks’ best halfcourt offense is Trae drawing a bump and heading to the stripe: glad he toned down his complaining when he doesn’t get the call some. It’s also a good problem when we expect better than .869 at the line from him.
  19. I’ve never been enamored with high-powered offense unless it’s a Spurs/ Warriors heyday type of style with a middling pace and heavy ball and man movement. That’s the style that fosters great teamwork on the other end. The fascination with the D’Antoni Suns “7 seconds or less” always flew over my head (or under it, whatever). Just poor basketball philosophy to sell out on out-gunning your opponent on numerous levels. Quinn just isn’t fit for coaching high level defense. I get kinda irked that he pays lip service to it with a ill-conceived scheme to boost turnovers. He had the framework pieces in Utah to prop him up in Conley, O’Neal, and Gobert. The only standout defender on this team is OO and he piles up fouls (see below). Any coach who wants to rush up court quickly after an awful defensive possession that yields non-contested layups or threes doesn’t value two-way play: the great ones simply don’t do that. They’ll call a timeout immediately to get sh*t straight. Of the 5 most used lineups OO is the only player who appears in both plus groups per 100 possessions and neither of the 3 minus ones: Clint is so cooked to a golden brown. I didn’t expect any point differential prowess from the starters last season and still don’t sans Jalen. Godspeed young man.
  20. Oh my God. The Mitten. Sublime game from him. He draws twice as many offensive fouls as he commits, which is major. Not even 20 games in I’m growing tired of this pace/ points allowed though. Barely beat arguably the worst team going. Miscommunications that allow open threes is a disease on this squad. Back to good ole .500 tho.
  21. They’re both GTD but I actually hope Wembanyama (I cringe every time I hear “Wemby”) and Sochan play (a player Spurs fans discuss and debate way too much like Hawks fans with Deandre James Hunter). Both them dudes have a negative Win Share starting all 17 games. I been following that stat for years, pretty sure I’ve never seen that. You almost have to try to be that awful (oh yeah…they are). I figured the hype around that kid was fraudulent based on the hack pundits who fawned over him. If the Hawks lose this game and break the Spurs’ losing streak and defy the Mighty Flirtin’ .500 Phenomenon I’ll be speechless.
  22. Kyle and the staff better not have f&@ked this kids shot up. As Hawks fans we take the good with the bad I guess, DJ and JJ have improved their three balls significantly.
  23. AJ’s fall is mind boggling. Regressing defensively isn’t a surprise but many of his looks couldn’t be more wide open: he was automatic on those last season. Sh%t is depressing I had high hopes after a 47/ 39/ 89 rookie season how could you not?!
  24. Hawks are 3rd in offensive rating at almost 120 per. Unless that elite offensive Big is 7 feet and a great anchor/ communicator I don’t value any extra offensive firepower. There are only 3 in the league anyway in Chet, Embiid, and Joker, neither going anywhere soon obviously. Any above-average team will still outscore the Hawks when Trae is playing 36 minutes no problem.
  25. I’ve always liked OO but he isn’t any type of answer as a BU tweener who can’t play make nor stretch and only excels versus Bigs who like to play on the perimeter some. End of the discussion that involves him.
