  1. In November, Shams Charania reported that the Hawks were pursuing Domantas Sabonis in restricted free agency. Unfortunately, he signed a contract extension with Indiana. Fast forward today, Domantas is averaging 18Points/13rebounds/4assists. Our GM has an eye for talent. Todays reports that Detroit would have given the Hawks Drummond if we had given them a 1st round pick. Our GM is not mortgaging our future on a rental. Remember guys, Schlenk has a keen eye for talent as he started his NBA career as a video editor for Golden State Warriors. Give our GM time. He’s building something special here. When John Collins was drafted with the 18th Pick (1st Round), did you envision him producing at this level for a mid round pick? This summer and next year (trade deadline or summer free agency) will be special for the Hawks. The next 2-3 moves via draft/trade will define Schlenk and this roster makeup. He makes decisions that are exciting, damn better than Pete Babcock or Billy Knight.
  2. The logic makes no sense. We rank dead last in the NBA ranking. If we stay the course, we draft Anthony Edwards and pickup Drummond in free agency. To boot, we can trade Brooklyn’s 1st and Hawks 2nd round pick if we want a role player veteran or move up in the draft. Why give up assets now for Drummond...win a few games for what? If Drummond walks and we gave up Brooklyn’s 1st round pick for a 4 month rental, there’s no long term added benefit and flexibility to maneuver. KAT is a pipe dream but we have the cap space for him. NBA players are taking notice on the Hawks promising core of players. It’s damn exciting watching T. Young on tv and NBA players want to play with him. We wait until the 2021 free agency class. We are positioned for it, and Schlenk worked his @55 off to get us in this position. Teams will want to position themselves for the 2021 free agency class and we are a hot commodity to negotiate with teams if the opportunity presents itself. We just have to wait and the Drummond situation is not worth it before the trade deadline.
  3. Makes no damn sense trading for a 4month rental in Drummond. He will win us a few games and will impact our odds of getting either Anthony Edwards and the Wiseman kid on draft day. Giving up Brooklyn’s 1st round pick for a rental, wtf. I would rather roll the dice and trade for KAT and aim bigger if we plan on trading assets. I say stay the course. If we want Drummond, wait until free agency. The plan is coming in place...the kids need to play and be patient. Help is coming
  4. For a franchise rebuild, I thought 5 years is the average to contend (high drafts picks/grooming them over the years, and accumulate quality vets). We will be year 3 with a top 10 picks and I feel like we need two more years. IF the season ended today, I would be pissed if we didn’t get the 1st overall pick. When was the last time we had the #1 pick? If the draft doesn’t consist of a bonefide superstar, trade down or get a veteran superstar. Wait for the 2021 free agency class
  5. We’re near dead last in the NBA in rebounding. Travis Schlenk wants players who embodies the concept of “dribble, pass, shoot” Someone explain to me how Steven Adams fits this style of Atlanta Hawks basketball?
  6. Sothron, #1 or #2 pick will be James Wiseman (Center) and hot free agent in Ghiannis Antetokounmpo. John Collins is too good to be a bench player. PG: Trae Young SG: Kevin Huerter SF: D. Hunter PF: G. Antetokounmpo / John Collins Center: James Wiseman / John Collins
  7. With the rate we’ve been losing, would you draft James Wiseman (Center) 7’-1” or Anthony Edwards (Shooting Guard) 6’-4”? Your thoughts? My recommendation is Anthony Edwards (SG) and Vernon Carey (Center Duke) with Brooklyn’s pick. Then, aggressively pursue Giannis Antetokounmpo during free agency. PG: Trae Young SG: Anthony Edwards SF: D. Hunter PF: G. Antetokounmpo C: John Collins
  8. Zion reminds me of Shawn Kemp. Zion will win a slam dunk contest but his shooting percentage terrifies me. If you recall Shawn Kemp’s weight issue later in his career, he ballooned and starting playing Center. There are Zion reports that he has a history of keeping his weight in check. He’s young now but I’m concerned with a mixture of shooting and weight issues, in the future, impacting his health and insane athleticism. Our GM is all about shooting and Cam Reddish will be the target. I wouldn’t be surprised if we trade Prince for a future 1st round pick. Travis Schlenk trades trends toward accumulating more picks. He’s about sustainability.
  9. Cleveland lost LBJ. Do you foresee the Hawks losing Cleveland’s 1st round pick next year? I know it’s top 10 protected... Dallas signed Jordan. I think we will secure a 1st round pick between 6-20. Your thoughts?
  10. KB - who is your 2019 top draft choice?
  11. Our best hope for next year with our 3 1st round picks Top 3 picks: Atlanta Hawks Pick Pick 6-10: Dallas Mavericks Pick 11-20: Cleveland Cavaliers RJ Barrett (SG) is my top pick for next year.

  13. http://soaringdownsouth.com/2017/07/29/atlanta-hawks-summer-2018/ The Atlanta Hawks are in the midst of a full on tear down. With Dwight Howard being sent to Charlotte and Paul Millsap finding residence in the Mile High City, Travis Schlenk and the Atlanta Hawks have clearly chosen young over old. Yes our rebuild is obvious but I think Atlanta is hiding in plain sight for the summer of 2018. Next season will probably be brutal. Trotting out a starting lineup of Dennis Schröder, Kent Bazemore, Taurean Prince, John Collins and Dewayne Dedmon doesn’t invoke fear in anyone. But, Atlanta is equipped with 3 possible (almost guaranteed) first round draft picks in a top 3 protected Houston pick, lottery protected Minnesota pick and our own. That is why the Hawks need to trade Kent Bazemore. This is much less of an indictment on Bazemore and more of an attack on his contract. Baze was really fun in 2016 and 2017 up until the NBA playoffs. With an insane spike in cap space hit last summer it’s hard to attack the Hawks giving Kent such a large contract when others *ahem* the Los Angeles Lakers *ahem* made much worse moves. But and its a big but, Kent might stop Atlanta from becoming a superstar destination. As almost everyone knows by now, franchises and their GM’s are coming back down to Earth when it comes to the insane over spending of 2016’s off-season. Contracts from that Christmas in July are really starting to hurt everyone who bet their house money on the spike. A projected 10 teams are going to be in the luxury tax for 2018 and even less are going to have cap space with 9. The Atlanta Hawks are one of the lucky few with cap space, and finding a way for Bazemore and Plumlee to get of our books can make Atlanta a desired destination for upcoming. Atlanta can afford one max contract without getting rid of anyone but the NBA has turned into a superteam league and even then I don’t know if Atlanta has enough luster to attract just one superstar. We’re a big city with a fanbase that falls in love with success (hello Falcons), and is waiting for that savior or two. Getting rid of these contracts leaves us championship caliber pieces in Schröder and Prince. Exciting rookies in Collins and Bembry and 3 possible first round picks, with the ability to sign 2(!!) max level superstars. With players like LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, Chris Paul, Paul George, Demarcus Cousins and Kevin Durant all becoming free agents next year, getting rid of Bazemore and others might make Atlanta a dark horse destination for the next superteam.

  15. With Kyrie Irving possibly headed out of Cleveland and whatever assets are retrieved from this trade, what is everyone's opinion on where the Cleveland draft pick (top 10 protected) will be for the Hawks? Hawks Pick: #3 Cleveland Pick: #15 Timberwolves Pick: #20 Next years draft is loaded with Centers, and the Hawks will most likely pursue a Center with their first pick.
  16. Golden State has a Championship window of atleast 3-4 years. Lebron James is getting older and the Celtics will be taking over the East as soon as LBJ retires. GM is making the right decision to tear down and build the Hawks back up until this happens. I rather we suck now in preparation for the new wave of Hawks to be seasoned for a Championship run.
  17. Jamal Crawford wants to go to the Lakers. ATL trades for Jordan Clarkson + Luol Deng.
  18. The GM should have offered a contract for the respect to our best player, who wanted to remain a Hawk, a contract offer. The absence of a contract offer Is poor class. Other free agents wanting to come to ATL will think twice before coming to the A. A marketing nightmare. The new GM may have ideas for the future, but his lack of execution trying to do a sign and trade or contract offer are downright bogus. BudCox made a mess of the situation the past two years. The new GM is trying to clean things up and I am disappointed that his training and ideals from Golden State didn't transfer over to the Hawks. He may be a great talent evaluator for the draft but he lacks free agency marketing class.
  19. This years Lakers is a great example of team chemistry failure. Kobe, Nash, Gasol, Dwight, ArtestWhen Dwight played for Orlando, they played well with Turk, Dwight, and a barrage of 3-point specialist. Can someone please clearly explain to me basketball knowledge how Dwight, Horford, CP3, j.jenkins, Lou Williams, and the new coach creates good team chemistry...I'll make my first pass, and please chime in.PG - CP3 is a dribble penetrator and a playmaker. He can create many opportunities for Dwight and Korver(when Korver played for the bulls, d.rose and him played extremely well together)SG - j. Jenkins is a pure spot up shooter. When players are double teaming Dwight or CP3, Jenkins will thrive in this positionSF - ?PF - Horford has the mid range jumper and opens the floor for Dwight to do his damage, plus he's a rebounding assetC - Dwight plays his position as a dominant center who can attack the rim or passes to the perimeter6th man - Lou Williams is a pure shooter ala Jamal Crawford type
  20. The Hawks received Houston's 2013 Protected 1st Round pick. Someone please explain to me what are the limitations to the Houston's pick (protected up to draft position 10...)?With the Hawks current squad, I envision the Hawks 2013 draft having a high teens pick. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Atlanta Hawks could potentially hold (2) mid first round picks? If the Houston pick is extended to the 2014 Draft, will there be a lottery protection tag? The 2014 Draft seems promising with superstar talent.
  21. The schedule looks tough with all the back-to-back games; however, everyone has to realize that we have a deep bench this year. The true test will come when our 2nd unit can provide a spark with scoring and defense. I noticed that Woodson has been playing Teague in the last few games, and maybe, just maybe, Woodson is preparing Teague for the real test against the Big 3. On the flipside, Woodson can be selfish and not play Teague at all. I think it's critical for Woodson to throw Teague into these game situations and let him develop. Bibby needs to rest his legs with all the back-to-back games coming up. Lastly, our team is 90% healthy excluding Joe Smith's finger injury. Shaq in Cleveland is hurt. Boston lost Marquis Daniels and Glen Davis. Orlando lost Jameer Nelson and I think Vince Carter is hurt with a hip injury. Otherwise, the Hawks coming into these games are on the positive with a healthy ball club. Then negative could possibly be Woodson's substitution patterns... Thoughts??
  22. Woodson feels content playing rookies when we're being blown out by 20 points (ala Lakers game). To Teague's defense, he provided a spark and helped us get back into the game. But when it comes down to a close game like the Blazers game, it's obvious to any viewer that Woodson favors his veterans. Not that I'm not complaining about Woodson's 4th quarter substitution, my concern is Woodson's substitution patterns during the 1st half. The team's offense was stagnant, we couldn't make any buckets, and Woodson's answer is Jamal Crawford running point. The time when Bibby and Crawford were on the floor together does not work. Bibby is a PG who doesn't drive into the lane and he's a pure spot up shooter. Whereas if Woodson substituted Teague, atleast the rookie will attack the bucket and atleast change the momentum of the game. What Teague brings to the court is his tenacity to attack the rim. Whether he makes his shots or not, atleast our bigs get involved for second chance opportunities when the defense collapses on Teague or he misses his floater. Woodson's idea of bringing Teague along slowly is no excuse. If the Hawks 1st team cannot find a rhythm, he needs to have more faith in his second unit especially if Teague can change the tempo of the game.
  23. During the Lakers 4th Quarter, Laker announcers were highly impressed by our rookie PG. It is evident that Teague is fearless going to the basket let alone shooting 3pointers. Teague needs to be playing 25minutes a game. Bibby has way too much mileage in his legs and in order for us to sustain a healthy ball club during the playoffs, Teague needs to transition himself early on in the season. Teague is trying to find chemistry with the second unit, but his chances are limited with Woodson always pulling him out. The kid can flat out play, just let him play!
  24. Has anyone seen NBA.com and the video of the "Olympiakos vs the San Antonio Spurs"? There's a few highlights on Chillz. His body frame looks the same. It doesn't look like he's been trying to bulk up or anything.
