  1. As I have repeatedly said I am interested in which tickets went up or down in price. His post was the first concrete information we have since I can't find the information for what season tickets cost last season. If you have been able to find that then please lets hear it. But I don't think that the $1 increase would cause people to give up their season tickets when they were given the other benefits. Why does it matter that the cost to the Hawks ownership is less than the benefit that the fans get? From the fans POV thats still a pretty sweet deal compared to last season. The point to me is still that if a season ticket holder didn't renew then it wasn't because of the $1 increase- it was because of other factors. And once again if anyone else has experience with how their season ticket prices went up or down I'm curious to hear. I wasn't disparaging you by calling you resident capologist. It was on your profile- I figured you liked the name.
  2. Resident Capologist- what I am interested in is what tickets went up in price, went down in price, or remained the same. Your link doesn't provide any information along these lines. If you think that people are staying away because ticket prices increased- lets see which tickets actually increased and by how much. In evilinblot's case I don't think that people are staying away because of a $1 increase considering all the other stuff he was given.
  3. foeteen- the problem is that the cavs would never do that in a million years. Add in Teague and a first rounder and they probably still wouldn't do it.
  4. evilinkblot- thanks for posting that information. Do you mind saying what section your seats are in? It definitely sounds like they made the tickets a better deal.
  5. As far as I know, not all club seats come with free food or drinks. There are new tickets that are similar to the Braves all you can eat seats but I don't think that all of them do. But I can't find any club seats for sale either through ticketmaster or through the ticket exchange. (Ive been on the club level in the past but not this season) There are some for sale on craigslist and they don't mention any free food or drinks and I feel pretty confident that they would just because people would pay more for the tickets then. Maybe that website counts "in seat service" as an amenity, but I really don't know what their methodology is. So thats why I don't put much stock in 1 number from a random website. Really the information that I find interesting is what seats went up in price and which seats went down. Looking at season tickets would probably give the most accurate view but I haven't been able to find any ticket pricing info for last season.
  6. In your link they say they exclude luxury suites and seats that come with "at least one amenity". SO that would imply that the VIP seating would still count in their analysis except for the new seats that include food or drinks. If anyone can find the link to last seasons season ticket pricing that would be great.
  7. I think that I'm going to take the under in any games where Collins is likely to see any playing time. He absolutely kills the Hawks offense.
  8. http://www.ajc.com/sports/atlanta-hawks/some-hawks-season-ticket-387708.html Sounds like the premium tickets did get a big bump, but as those would normally be purchased by companies looking to impress clients that seems like a pretty reasonable way of going about it.
  9. Oh- and for anyone who actually cares about the ticket price thing. Its difficult to find Hawks ticket pricing from last year to compare but there was an AJC article that said the only tickets that had their prices raised were in the VIP seating sections. All other lower level tickets were actually lowered on average 3% and I believe upper level tickets were unchanged. Overall, ticket prices went up by just .08%. So that would 8 cents on a $100 ticket.
  10. I think the problem for the Hawks is just a lack of interest. They aren't a championship contender and aren't even particularly trying to be. They aren't building for the future. They are a solid team that should win most of their home games and when it comes down to it thats not enough to get people to feel like they have to go see them in person or else they are missing out. And from that perspective I don't think that doing a TV blackout would help- They need fans to tune in to get interested in the team. But really, what reason has the team given anyone to think they are better than last season?
  11. The Hawks turnovers have gone up signifcantly and the Hawks offensive rebounding is down SHARPLY. (top 5 last season to outside the top 20 this season in offensive rebounding) Of course the offensive system has a lot to do with that, Woodson's offense was so productive in large part because of how many more shots the hawks took than the other team. Time will tell whether the team can increase efficiency in shooting percentages to make up for getting so many fewer shots.
  12. Kaman would be the allstar center that would probably be an option for Josh Smith.
  13. Does anyone have the ratings handy for the Hawks games? I have absolutely no idea how many people watch a Wednesday night hawks game vs a mediocre team. To me the core problem is that people in Atlanta simply don't care about the Hawks enough to go out of their way to see them. The team isn't a championship contender and isn't making moves trying to become one. They don't have an influx of young talent that could turn them into one in the future. They are a nice team that will win most of their games. Thats not enough to get people excited in this town.
  14. To me its free throw rate. When the Hawks are drawing contact and getting to the line it makes a huge difference for the team. When they are content to settle for long 2 point jumpers then the team is in big trouble.
  15. I was talking about 2 seasons ago when Iverson left the pistons and the Hawks had Bibby as a free agent. I said I was surprised that the team didn't sign him, not that I think it would have been a good move. I do think if the hawks could have brought in Shaq without paying the luxury tax they probably would have done it. But I think Shaq would have only come in if the Hawks gave him the full MLE and that would have cost the ASG at least 10 million dollars ocne you take the luxury tax into account. I can understand why they didn't think Shaq was worth it.
  16. I'm still a little surprised that the team didn't sign Iverson after he left the Pistons. Even when he was washed up I think he would still have been a big draw here.
  17. His biggest strength as a player is his last name. Seriously... if his last name were jones I don't think many people would be excited about the signing.
  18. Holy crap... I think the grizzlies just ran out at Josh Smith as he lined up to take a 17 foot jumper.
  19. And that was the year that the Hawks were hanging on the edges of the playoff race near the trade deadline so they traded for Anthony Johnson to try and make a late push for the playoffs and gave up a lot of projected caproom in the offseason. The Hawks were TRYING to make the playoffs so the pick wouldn't be as good if it went to the suns. But The Hawks faded down the stretch and then they won the lottery to get Horford.
  20. Laughable. a 1% increase. Pick your difference on whatever tickets you like. Lets hear where you think the people STAYING AWAY are instead of just going to a cheaper ticket.
  21. LOL. so you think $1.25 on a $100 ticket has driven attendance down? I'm genuinely curious as to who you think is staying away in droves because of a 1% increase. Particularly when you think they are STAYING AWAY rather than just taking a cheaper ticket.
  22. last year the team had Carmelo on a Saturaday. Chris Paul on a Saturday, The Heat, and the Rockets. I just can't imagine that fans would even notice a 1% increase in ticket sales. THere are a ton of reasons for a drop in attendance- I just can't believe that you are picking a 1% price increase as the only reason. Seriously... on a $40 ticket you think that fans notice 40 cents? Ridiculous.
  23. Lol. I didn't think that you were actually thinking the Hawks attendance has dropped this season. I think that has far more to do with the crappy teams the Hawks have faced this year. I think that the Hawks attendance always goes up as the year goes on once College football season is over. Plus the Hawks have faced some pretty lousy teams this year. We'll see by the end of the year how the Hawks attendance is this year vs last- I don't anticipate it being much different. Unless the team is facing a top team I really just don't think the Hawks are going to draw much on Saturday's and Sunday's during Football season. Boston is the only really big draw the Hawks have faced at home this season so far. If you think that attendance has dropped 15% because of a 1% price increase then we'll just have to disagree and see how the season plays out.
  24. I never claimed it was anything other than anecdotal I went out of my way to say this was only among my friend group. I am talking about the depth of the problem the Hawks have. We can get cheap tickets any time we want on craigslit. If we looked harder we could probably get free tickets from the people who work at lawfirms. For my friend group, price is not the issue at all. To talk in economics terms I do think that for the Hawks there is an inelasticity element here. I think that when people see a Hawks game as an "event" worth going to then the ticket prices are in a fine range for an event night. Baseball I think is more of a time filler where people will go just because there isn't anything else planned that night. I really do think the other barriers have more to do with the Hawks attendance than ticket price. Getting every game in HD at home, the arena being annoying to get to on game day, the Hawks not having a superstar. I do think that ticket prices are a minor part of it. If they dropped every ticket by 2 bucks tomorrow I dont think they would get a huge increase in ticket sales.
  25. Lets compare it to HOckey. Hockey ticket prices are an issue- my friends and I usually go to 1 or 2 games a year where we get 20 or so people out for the night. We would do it more often if tickets were cheaper. If I had 4 upper level tickets available to any game I would have no problem at all getting people to go. If I were given 4 lower level Hawks tickets to the game against the Grizzlies it would be a struggle for me to give them away. I really don't know many people who would go to the games even with free tickets. Even Hawks fans would often rather watch the game in HD at home rather than going. People are just not interested in the Hawks and at least in my friendgroup its not at all about ticket price.
