  1. How else can you explain drafting 2 pretty good players who cant find a way in the rotation, when they're clearly just as good as Bibby/Kirk, and Jamal? And it's not like we're all that good of a team to begin with. Teague drafted to take over for Bibby. Cant even get on the court. JC2 drafted to take Jamals place ,cant even dress. Now look what he's done in Washington. Perhaps Sund had it right the 1st time. Yet our dumbass coaches cant even get them garbage min? Pathetic. ASG is running this team folks. Plain and simple. No way Sund, or any GM for that matter, would just sit back and watch Woody and LD destroy the young 1st rdrs he just drafted. Makes no sense. Beginnining to think Gearon hired LD, not Sund. And Gearon and LD wanted Kirk (the big time defender), not Sund. Until we get new owners, nothings going to change. Thoughts??

  2. Nope. I 'm thinking the same thing. Let the starters get into a rythym and pull em. All we need to worry about is Orlando at this point. This is the time to play the backups(not named Collins). See if a bench player can step up and earn a few minutes in the Playoffs.

I knew there was no reason to play the Dwight stopper tonight. Damn! And why take out Teague? LD is a dumbass.
  3. :offtopic: Am I the only one who thinks that we should be resting our guys at this point? At least limit the minutes of the starters. There are only about 5 games left, we are locked in for the playoffs, and pretty much locked in for the 5th seed. I just don't want to risk any of our guys getting hurt, just to make a statement in these meaningless games.

  4. Josh Smith needs a consistent voice. LD's willy-nilly style creates confusion and dissension. How can a coach sit Josh for talking bad shots yet allows JJ to go 4-20 in the same game?

I would love to see LD get in Jamal's face for trying that globetrotter-dribble-jumper bs. Or it would be nice if he gave Al and Joe a nice stare down for holding the ball to long before making an offensive move. I would even like to see him get in Josh's face for not giving the ball up to the PG. I think the players are 60% the problem. Still I get extremely pissed when LD knows these guys are prone to do the same dumb stuff over and over and just sit on the bench like there is nothing wrong.

JJ is a SHOOTING GUARD. Josh is a PF, and arguably our best post player. We need Josh inside. I take it LD told him that or he wouldnt have benched him. Just my 2 cents anyway. And btw, all of Joe's shots were'nt long jumpers. He was missing floaters, mid range shots, you name it. Agree with you on the Jamal globetrotter dribble bs. Need to cut that out.
  5. The roster was built specifically to do battle with the Magic over the summer no matter how shortsighted I believed it was. Luck would have it that that is the matchup we will face in the 1st round so I like our chances. The Magic didn't help themselves either by making a roster that is easier for us to matchup with.

Kirk offers more resistance against Jameer.

Richardson is only a threat off the ball and that requires a pass first PG which Jameer and Gil are not. Joe struggles with wings that can create their own shot which Richardson is not.

Hedo is not an athletic or agile enough SF to bother Josh on the perimeter cover.

Bass doesn't spread the floor as well as Shard so Al is always closer for help defense and to secure defensive rebounds.

We can go single coverage on Dwight now with JaCo, Zaz and Etan to offer tough playoff fouls.

Gil is a nonfactor off the bench and is far less reliable than Jamal.

Marvin can guard and go after Redick and Anderson off the bench.

Dwight can go off all he wants but we are now better equipped to not allow the remaining Magic to go off for 40 3s which is a huge chunk of their offense's success. This is something that everyone is overlooking about the upcoming playoff showdown, it's not just about the regular season record it's about the matchups. The Hawks used to be the perfect matchup for the Magic because they could abuse our lack of size with Dwight in the post, abuse our sagging defense to offset the lack of size and perimeter defense by getting the open 3s that they want, abuse our switching defense that left Dwight loose on pick and roles, and abuse our transition defense which was non existent because everyone was crashing the offensive boards. That is no longer the case and the real deciding factor for the Hawks will be which of the offenses show up, the dynamic movement one or the stationary jumper one.

You make it sound so easy. lol. And btw, we had Collins last year, albeit he was a tad out of shape, but old stubborn butt refused to use him. Who knows? Maybe He coulda made a difference last year.
  6. I have noticed that AL is becoming a little quick on the trigger and he is going farther and farther out shooting jumpers. We have to have someone under the board. LD had to get this thing together!!! Isn't he suppose to be the "warrior" on the team. He is starting to display a finesse game.

Marvin is stroking it pretty well lately. HE should have been in the game down the stretch instead of Jamal.

LD should have slowed it down when they started coming back.

I dare you say anything negative about Mr. Al. Even if he did get outplayed by a 6'8 center. Everything negative around here has to be about either Josh, Joe, Jamal, or Marvin. Got it!

  7. Josh Powell deserves more playing time for sure. What aggravates me most about Drew, is his insistance on keeping players in the game that are obviously having "off" nights. Basketball is a very streaky game and for the most part you are either going to be hot that night or cold. You don't see many players go 0-10 in the first half and then 8-10 in the 2nd. Look at how many bad games in a row it took until Drew FINALLY tried a lineup shakeup.

    Jamal. (cough, cough)
  8. Hilton Armstrong has no post game and can't rebound. If he possessed either of those skills, he would be playing more. He's a career bench warmer. Josh Powell is a decent scorer, but his inside game is weak and he is a below average rebounder. The Hawks are not losing anything with those two on the bench.

"Hilton Armstrong has no post game and cant rebound".

"Josh Powell is a decent scorer, but his inside game is weak and he is a below average rebounder".

Sounds like our starting sf, pf, and center, on most nights.

  9. I don't disagree that Mark Jackson could be a good NBA coach, but the Hawks need a proven leader instead of another rookie head man. I would consider Jeff Van Gundy.

lol. No way he'll leave his gravy job, to come and deal with the misfits, known as the ASG and "the core". We'd have a better chance at Jackson, considering he's just looking for an opportunity. Dont like Jeff or Stan anyway.

I will second that and say:

    Either

Doc Rivers, Van Gundy, Jerry Sloan, or Mike Fratello.

Rivers or Sloan, hell yeah. But we all know the ASG wont pay that kind of $ for a coach.
  10. OK... Small technicality. We traded Long and Augmon to make room to get Deke. But you're right, he did sign here. 5 years 55 MILLION which, at the time, some thought we overpaid to get a C who did not have a strong offensive game.

    Yep...

    1. Petit

    2. Nique

    3. Deke

    4. Joe

    5. Smitty

And Joe doesn't have nearly the balanced cast and coaching that these other guys had.

Nique had Doc Rivers, Tree Rollins (and one time Moses and Theus.)>

    Deke had Mookie, and Smitty.

Who wouldn't. That's not the argument. Not even a thought in the argument. The point is that NO FA has wanted to play in Atlanta (without being overpaid) since the freakin 80s.

Wtf? ALL fa's wanna get paid. And they usually go to the team that's paying the most $. U think Joe woulda stayed if he was offered more $ to play elsewhere? Dont think so. The guy was actually booed off the court in his final game last year, and still signed here. What does that tell you? U think he stayed because of his love for the city and fans, or for the love of $$$$?

EVERY one of my friends(all of whom are BIG Hawks fans) were ecstatic when we signed Deke. Hell everybody I know was ecstatic. Cant say the same about Joe. Most of my friends hated to give up all of those draft picks for Joe. And dont make me tell you what most people thought about that extension. Sure you already know. Deke = better FA than Joe. And having to only give up scrubs instead of 1st rdrs makes it clear cut. Case closed. You lose. lol
  12. I do. JJ came back just 2 weeks after elbow surgery. Question his game, fine. His conditioning and willingness to play through injury? Ridiculous.

    AJC:

"Kirk Hinrich sprained his right thumb against Philadelphia BUT KEPT PLAYING, while Johnson's knocked him out of the game". lol. Soft as Charmin.

Pay me 20 mill a year to dribble a lot, shoot a lot, and avoid all contact, and I'd play with 4 fingers, and a half a thumb. lol

  13. I thought I'd do some digging....light digging.

Checking Josh, Al and Joe per their FIC40 and Reina values (FIC is Floor Impact per 40 minutes. Reina is value for their contract.)

Al has an FIC40 of 18.2 and a Reina Value of 217% above Salary.

Josh has an FIC40 of 16.2 and a Reina Value of 40% above Salary.

Joe has an FIC 40 of 12.6 and a Reina Value of 37% below Salary.

    What this means.

Al makes 5,444,857 but is performing at $17,260,197

Josh makes 11,600,000 but is performing at $16,240,000

Joe makes 16,324,500 but is performing at $10,284,435

Looks about right to me. lol
  14. A few weeks ago I posted saying I hoped we faced the Heat rather than Magic in the playoffs. At the time the Heat were on a losing streak and it made sense. Since then the Heat creamed the Hawks. So now I do think the best chance we have in the playoffs is against the Magic. Not sure the big trade really helped them. But, I don't see them winning it. At best a close game against the Magic.

So we got beat recently by the Spurs, but Duncan is out. (But maybe he was out the night they blew the Hawks away-fuzzy memory.) So I still think we lose to them.

We lose to Boston should beat the Rocket. So I'm afraid I'd say 1-3.

Dont feel bad. I actually saw some people saying they wanted Chicago in the 1st rd. lol. Said they were the best matchup. Sure about that? I know it was one game, but LD couldnt adjust his zipper, much less in a 7 game series vs. MVP,and Thibodeau's defense. Hawks vs Orlando is a toss up. Whoever's making their jumpshots win. Plain and simple.

"Is Joe out vs any of those teams?" If he is, "I think we could realistically go 3-1." Better ball movement and less iso's. lol

  15. What I don't understand about Joe is ever since the year he was averaging 25 a game he has really regressed in his ability to get in the low post and use his enormous size/weight advantage or in attacking the rim with his size/weight and forcing the smaller guards to foul him and send him to the line. I don't understand it. You'll see him at least two to three times a game have some nice low post moves or a quick drive to the rim and he either scores, gets fouled or has a high percentage shot that barely misses.

And what happens after that? He just goes back to taking jumpers. I don't get it AT ALL. I remember when Mark Jackson and Charles would defend their slow low post moves by stating that while it wasn't pretty it worked. I don't see why Joe doesn't get that lesson through his head.

If it were Josh, it would be called low bb iq. lol!

  16. Nice to see Horf getting shots in the 4th qtr. Would be smart to keep that up and stop relying so much on Joe at the end of games.

Only way this happens is if Joe is out. Everybody still defers to him for some reason.
