  1. I simply disagree that near max is what any of those three will end up negotiating short of, indeed, any of them actually having such an incredible 2021-22 that it justifies it. It could happen. But as we sit here today, there's no presumption one can legitimately make. As we sit here today, even for one of them to so distinguish himself to that degree would be an exciting development. My own guess would be that Schlenk would be willing to sign any of the three for $15-$20m aav if they continue at something like their previous trajectory, but that it will take something more head-turning to get any of them into the $20-$25m aav range. Like I said as recently as Saturday....
  2. I hate that Kirschner thought this to be a useful question. There are moments when, probably self-justified as-if under the guise of journalism, one can see his personal desire to merely create or contribute to drama. He's a good writer. He asks a lot of good questions. He just lacks some savvy and has some growing up to do yet, imo.
  3. That had to be that much harder to wrap your head around at that age (?).
  4. (Please please avoid taking this thread beyond its intended guardrails, folks. There's another board for the aftermath and political angles, if you'd like. The mods have been kind enough to not get fussy, and leave it here for the community to share memories of that day, and I appreciate that. I know I'm not alone.)
  5. Thanks for indulging me, friends. Me, I hate... hate... golf. But I was directing what I think would have been my 5th or 6th charity golf tournament in my life, and we had just had the shotgun start several minutes before. Me and some of my crew were just settling in at the small town country club's bar area, and the Today Show was on the TV screens. My attention was more directed to the conversation among us at the table, but I think I remember Matt Lauer saying to the others on the screen that there was some report that a plane had flown into one of the WTC towers, and like others I suppose, I took that to mean that probably some sleepy or drugged-up pilot in a Cessna twin-engine plane had inadvertently run into it. At least, I know enough was said--by Lauer or Ann Curry or Katie Couric or someone--to catch my attention. And incrementally over the next few minutes, we learned it was significantly more than that. I do remember being fully engaged at the moment it was said (paraphrasing) "Oh my God, another jet is hitting the other tower!!!." The tournament went on, but naturally, most golfers didn't hang around at all after they finished, and many who were scheduled for the afternoon flight didn't show. We cancelled the dinner, but went ahead with the awards ceremony with maybe 20-30 golfers returning (my guess would be those were characterized by a high motivation to be seen in case the most politically powerful of the community showed up). After that wrapped up, I remember the weird combination of feeling sucker punched in my gut, anxiousness about what else might still occur, and loneliness as I went from hole to hole in the golf cart picking up signage. And I remember it hitting me that I'd heard that lines for gas were long, and many places had run out, and that I wasn't sure how much gas I had in my car. (It was fine. I had enough. But it sticks in my memory that it was a big worry until I finally got out to the parking lot and turned the key.) Had separated from my first wife about 2 months before, so I was living the single life. What a lonely, awful day. Actually, days. Life was turned upside down for about a week, iirc. Nothing was normal, and everything and everyone was on edge. Ugh.
  6. Can you imagine how much they must have paid him to show up? What do you think it took,... $20?... hehe.... a sadist after my own heart...
  7. Whoa. Didn't realize the deadline is tomorrow. Guess some things will come into focus shortly, or not at all, then. https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2021/09/saturday-is-deadline-for-teams-to-stretch-2021-22-salaries.html
  8. To each his own. But you don't have to lie in order to entertain. Think about that please.
  9. This is just so typical. So so so typical. Master twister. Master baiter. I'm sorry, did I say he would sign with the Hawks? No. I said Pangos was a viable option, and that I'd like to see it. What did Spud say? Spud said Pangos not only would not sign with the Hawks, but as I recall, Pangos wasn't even a worthy opponent for Spud to take-on in his driveway, or words to that effect. (Suppose that one can take that to mean, now anyway, that Spud would mop the floor with anyone on that Cleveland roster.) Spud enjoys playing these word games, tho, and moreover, posts for entertainment value, not for substance. So it doesn't bother him to lie or twist or bait. Whatever it takes to get a reaction.
  10. Right. Well, JC will anyway. But unless one expects the first round draft pick to be getting consistent minutes every night (not me), or unless one doesn't think it's a priority to ensure he's getting consistent minutes by playing G-league (not me, again)... then you're left with Solo being your 5th big. You could do that. But why would you. I'm not so sure about that, actually, but I don't claim to be an expert on TLC's game the way that I know Aminu's. More research is coming on that front. But I should add.... I'm also not married to Aminu, either... it's just been a process of deduction and given the factors of (a) who will accept a minimum deal and (b) who will accept not getting very many minutes and (c) believing that when Schlenk says "someone like Solo," it's not a reach to believe we should read into that someone who is on that 30+ end of his career. "But you were rooting for Giles just a few days ago, and he doesn't qualify." Well, yeah, he does for the first two, but on the last one, no. I just had a personal preference. At this point, I don't want to say this, but I could easily see Bismack Biyombo getting a call.
  11. Hmmm. Was there some other option that I'm failing to remember? I don't recall us ever having more than 15 signed. And different from this, I do remember it being reported specifically that he'd signed for the minimum. Maybe my memory is faulty, but the only time I remember even starting to think about Solo not being on the roster was just before the date (whatever it was) when he either had to be cut or it became guaranteed automatically.
  12. Yes. Point well-taken. But while it makes the picks received less appealing, that's not to say it makes the picks insignificant and not at all appealing... and particularly as you look at GSW a few years out, when this core group should be expected to decline. I don't specify what picks or how many, and that's because it's very much an eye-of-the-beholder and nebulous question what should be satisfactory to the three GMs who would be involved... and stating the obvious, it's not like there's any thought that this is actually being deliberated by any of them... it's a thought experiment like virtually every other fan trade proposal is (of course). Philly fans are Philly fans. Hard to imagine them being happy with whatever they get in return. But for us who aren't at all drunk on what Simmons could be in light of what he's been? I ask myself, are they a better team with a competent PG, a 2020 first round PG prospect who's had some good flashes, and a scoring wing?... do they seem to have a better chance of advancing with those three than with Simmons and Seth Curry? Maybe obviously, my answer is yes, they are. Then why do I say that there should be some additional draft pick compensation component to the trade that favors them? It's a good question, and my best answer is public perception... indeed, Simmons is seemingly perceived to be so much more than Wiggins is perceived to be. But the reality from where I sit is that Wiggins is a better fit for what PHI needs in order to exceed their 2021 performance.
  13. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this, but I believe--unlike MLB--the limit in the NBA is to pay the other team $3m max in any given trade.
  14. I get it that it's the "same deal Solo got last season," but then the rest is key... effectively he's been invited to training camp and has the opportunity to make the team. I don't think he makes the team unless, as was envisioned earlier, Hunter takes more time to get back than anticipated.... which, who knows, of course. My speculation is that this is an "in case of emergency break glass" move.... while I'm still betting on SAS cutting and stretching Aminu, and on Aminu having interest in finishing his career with us in light of ATL being home, and that we can offer him some playing time until Big2O gets back, and still more than that if Hunter isn't ready out of the gate... nothing is a given.
  15. Yeah, maybe I'm just wanting to see the glass half-full here, but until I see something that actually specifies he's getting a minimum standard contract, it seems an open question whether he's getting that or getting an E10... and I'd lean toward an E10 just based on what Schlenk has told us and his record of typically doing what he suggested he was inclined to do.
  16. I hear ya. Here's what I just posted at RealGM on that.... In my best Natalie Maines voice... There's your trouble.
  17. Not a thread that's interested me until today, and even now, my interest is just as one of many NBA fans who enjoy playing trade god, and trying to imagine something that makes sense... not as a Hawk fan thinking how to add a max contract player whose major flaw is too major of a flaw to justify (a) paying him what he's going to get paid and (b) moreover, giving up assets for that "privilege." So. No. No Ben Simmons please. It's not even a discussion to me, hence my disinterest based on the title of the thread. But. It is intriguing as an outsider who enjoys jigsaw puzzles and engineering better mousetraps to think about what a "fair" trade might look like. This article was a fascinating read, analyzing the assets and deficits of the various pieces that could be part of either a CLE or MIN trade, ostensibly the teams most often rumored to be pursuing a deal: https://www.phillyvoice.com/sixers-ben-simmons-trade-rumors-cavaliers-timberwolves-darius-garland-collin-sexton-deangelo-russell/ I still like DAL getting involved someway somehow. The Porzingis and DAL relationship isn't that much different from the Simmons and PHI one. Fwiw... my shot at solving the puzzle... not perfect, but conceivably within range such that a draft pick or two being added to the deal makes it plausible...
  18. Wouldn't be too quick, though, to presume there wasn't a cheap shot that preceded it at some point, and it was simple eye-for-an-eye from GD's perspective.
  19. Johnny Hamilton's current (E10) contract essentially commits him to play for College Park and to show up for training camp. If we want to actually play him in ATL, it's my understanding we actually have to sign him to an actual big league contract of some kind--either standard or two-way. There are only the 15 plus 2 that a team can put on the floor.
